NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK
windbreaker x gn!reader
warnings/cw: no warning, usage of Y/N and L/N
syn. - a new school and gang has come to town, the boys all have their respective opinions on it.
characters :: haruka sakura, hayate suo, umemiya hajime, togame jo
a/n:: been obsessed with this anime for a minute now but this is my first work in the fandom sooo lemme know if yall like it!! if i forgot a character or you wanna see more just lemme know what character you’d wanna see <33
side note, this fic is completely self indulgent because i know the usual shtick is ‘oh they protect you’ which of course nothing is wrong with that, but i also like it more when reader is also badass and can fight, so here we are!! pls enjoy 😊
Tumblr media
HARUKA SAKURA
He had been sent to your home grounds on Umemiya’s orders, as a way to get to know the new gang in town. Rumors has it that this new gang is strong, and had a hand in orchestrating a raid on Zinc which has now left Zinc in a horrible position.
You already know how he feels about strength and what it means to be strong, so he would’ve checked it out by himself, but Umemiya had said to go with Suo and Nirei, and so here they are, about to cross over into your territory.
Once they pass the overhead bridge, he’s met with a school building, not all that bigger than Bofurin, with graffiti in some spots. On the front, there was a flag, a soft blue color with a sun, its rays moving in a spiral.
Sanshedo. Sun Shade. Interesting name, he thinks.
“Are you sure we can just waltz in here? Aren’t we gonna get in trouble if we just come in with no warning?” Asks Nirei, obviously shaking from the unfamiliar surroundings.
In Sakura’s opinion, who the hell cares? If it’s such a big issue, then this new gang can deal with it-
“Your friend is right, yknow? I could’ve said you were intruding and have our Head send a couple guys to deal with you three.”
He whisks around, taking in your features. From the style of boots you’re wearing to the look you’re giving him, Nirei, and Suo.
The very first thing he thinks, is pretty.
He blushes as soon as the thought comes to his mind.
“However, seeing the jackets you three have on, I’m not worried about starting problems. You guys are members of Bofurin, right? Windbreaker?”
He nods frantically, unsure as to why he’s so nervous. He’s not in a fight, and even when he is, all he feels is anticipation, only hints of nervousness, and excitement. Why is it different now?
Why is it so different with you?
He can feel Suo’s stare at his back, and he’d been inclined to look at him if it wasn’t for the way you just trapped him in place, unable to move.
“Cool hair, by the way. Also, Blondie, I like the clip and I like the earrings, eyepatch.”
“It’s Haruka Sakura, not just cool hair.”
But why did it feel so nice to hear that you think his hair is cool instead of weird or scary. What the hell is going on?
“Well, Haruka Sakura, the name’s L/N Y/N. Bofurin, welcome to Sanshedo.”
You throw your hands up to showcase the school behind you, the symbol of Sanshedo, god he needs to remember the name, shown on the back of your jacket.
“Also, I hear you’re strong, Sakura. Care for a friendly fight?” A sly grin makes its way on your face, and he can feel his lips curl up into a smile.
“You’re on, L/N.”
Somehow, this new gang doesn’t seem to be half bad after all.
Tumblr media
HAYATO SUO
Hayato Suo has always been the type to play with his food. Not in a literal sense per se, but when it comes to fights.
He is very much intrigued when he sees you, very much multiple knuckles deep in a fight. The way you fought them was so mesmerizing to him, how you moved was so fluid and graceful.
Alas, he was on town patrol with Sakura and Nirei, so all good things must come to an end. Nirei shouts the word ‘intruder’, and in that same breath, you had finished the group of thugs.
“Oh shit, it’s Bofurin!”
The three of three stop, not knowing what to do. Kiryuu and Tsugeura fall in step behind them, all brandished on Sakura’s opposite sides.
Suo pauses, noticing the light blue color of your jacket. The pin on the jacket has a spiral, and from the side view, he can see glimpses of a design on the back of the jacket, not unlike their enemy-turned-friend Shishitoren.
He eyes you up and down, nothing that seems threatening in your stance or posture. How interesting.
Hayato Suo has always been a curious child.
“Yes, that would be us, and you are?”
Nirei looks up at him in exasperation. He pointedly ignores it.
“L/N Y/N of Sanshedo. We’re a new faction in town. Say, you’re Hayato Suo, right? Fancy a spar?”
Well, he has always been the curious type, and Umemiya has always told them that fights are conversations, so why not?
“Sure.”
Sakura splutters. He’s been trying to get a fight out of Suo for ages!
What can he say? You’re very pretty and very interesting, is there anything else he needs in order to make a connection?
Tumblr media
HAJIME UMEMIYA
As the leader of Bofurin, he has a responsibility to all of the people, his family, under his jurisdiction. He has a duty to the townspeople as well.
Quite frankly, he’s had a lot of foresight, especially when it comes to a certain two-toned first year, but he could’ve never predicted this.
A new gang, thats apparently been in existence for a while now, only two years younger than the founding of Bofurin, and he sees this as his responsibility to go and check it out.
A poor oversight on his part, in his opinion.
He shrugs on his coat, making sure to let Tsubakino that him and Hiragi are heading out, and exists the Furin premises.
The minute he gets there, he sees a whole abandoned school building, but looks big enough to be mistaken for a mini-airport.
Outside, he sees a couple people wearing identical jackets. A light blue colored varsity jacket, with spirals etched into the buttons and a sun branded into the back of the jackets.
A sun? Interesting choice of mascots.
Hiragi taps his shoulder, pointing to the windows of the building.
When Umemiya looks to the building, he sees the windows lined with nothing but people looking at them, all branded with the same light blue jackets, boys and girls mixed and alike.
Okay, he admits it. Walking into another gang’s territory without prompting is his fault, but he was curious!
“You work for Bofurin? Come with me.”
They’re both taken to an office. It has the same logo on the jackets on the wall, with the kanji for the gang in the middle.
Sanshedo. Sun Shade.
“Boss? I brought two people that wanna meet you-“
“Look! I got some new gemstones! I have topaz to add to the collection now- Oh!”
You snap your head to attention, to which Umemiya is looking at the collection of jewels with sparkling eyes. You look back at him with sparkling eyes as well.
You both share a hyperfixation. What is there not to like?
He can feel Hiragi’s deadpan stare behind him.
“Oooh! What do you like?”
“Plants!”
“Cool! Hey, you lead Bofurin, right? What’s your name?”
“Umemiya Hajime, you?”
“L/N Y/N, leader of Sanshedo. Care for a chat?”
Sure, he originally came to see what was up, discuss territory and make a possible alliance, but hey! This is cool too.
And you’re very cute. Like, very very cute.
Tumblr media
TOGAME JO
Well, here’s the thing about Togame and his relationship with Shishitoren thus far.
He’s changed, him and Choji, that doesn’t mean they aren’t still just as vigilant with protecting and managing their territory as they were before the Bofurin Tournament.
So, when he hears there’s a big ass brawl in between two different gangs in his and Choji’s territory, he puts himself into action immediately.
He slings on his jacket, the embroidered lion’s head contrasting with the monk-like garb he had on the daily. Glasses catching sunlight, running with Choji.
Only to come to the scene to find you, minor cuts and scrapes along your face, and blood on your knuckles that really didn’t seem to belong to you.
Then he looks down to see the other guys, and finally thinks, yes, you whooped ass.
However, that doesn’t mean that you get off scot free. This is his territory after all, and if it went unchecked, it would be worse for Shishitoren’s already bad reputation.
“And who might you be, beating up people in our territory.”
“I honestly couldn’t care less. I’ve seen those jackets, you’re Shishitoren. I have no business listening to people who prey on the weak for fun.”
“I don’t care what you think of us, you’re still in our territory. Also? You talk too much.”
“You beat up middle schoolers, I really don’t want to hear it. I just helped you out with Zinc, give me a break.”
His eye twitches. It’s too damn early for this.
And you’re quite the looker. It’s a shame you’re enemies as of right now.
Damn you’re cute. Fuck, maybe he can try to redirect the conversation?
“How about we start with your name and who you’re under then we can chat.”
Hopefully over some ice tea and your number in his phone by the end of today. Can he pull it off? Shit, he’ll certainly try.
“Y/N L/N. Right hand to Sanshedo’s leader. You? I’ve heard of Tomiyama over there, but not you.”
You are so lucky you’re drop dead gorgeous or else he would’ve drop kicked you into next week.
“Togame Jo. Right hand to Shishitoren’s leader. Care for a chat over a drink?”
You look at him some type of way, but agree in the end.
Now if only he can get your number, today will be perfect.

OKAY YALL.
I haven’t been paying attention at all.
Do you want to be really angry,
Like really, really angry?
I’m putting this in a read more since there’s going to be a LOT and it may start a FIRE.
It was a lonely snowy night in the north of British Columbia Canada.
Just kidding.
For real though- I had no internet! We could only watch TV on satellite (the only anime I watched was on YTV). If it snowed in the winter we had to go outside and brush the snow off the satellite to continue watching Beyblade or Inuyasha.
So I was 5-6 when I first started watching Beyblade. Of course I LOVED IT. I would rush home to try to watch it everyday. Beyblade has just airing and it was a HIT. I watched season 1 religiously, I actually don’t remember watching much of V-force or G-rev but that’s probably because it wasn’t made yet lmao.
I grew up in a small town, whatever you’re imagining, imagine it smaller. (I could write a whole essay on the social hierarchy of Port Ed in the early 2000s but I’ll keep it short for now) White kids= rich/ pretentious, Native kids=poor. I didn’t like the attitude of most of the white girls, so I mostly made friends with the native kids (I miss yall btw) but anyways, this is where you’re going to get angry.
So I didn’t know what Japanese WAS. Like I knew what Chinese was (Small town surrounded by racists? Who would have guessed?) I don’t even think I knew Japanese existed, but any other anime I watched (Sailor moon, Inuyasha, Gundam Wing) most of the characters were white representing or had extremely light skin tones.
So what the heck was 5 year old me supposed to do with beyblade? Which was a show filled with lots of different ethnicities? 5 year old me was obsessed with beyblade, tearing apart every episode I saw, so I gathered: Max=American, Ray=Chinese, Kai=Russian (Because that’s what matched with all their championships, makes sense to a kid right?)
But what WAS Japanese? I dunno? But you know who Tyson looked like?
My chubby native friends.
THAT’S RIGHT
YALL ARE DEBATING BIRACIAL KAI
LITTLE ME THOUGHT TYSON WAS NATIVE FOR YEEEAAAARRRSSSSS.
I’m laughing as I write this, when I learned Japan was indeed a real place, it didn’t dawn on me immediately. It still took finding beyblade online when I was like 11, re-watching it and being like ‘huh’. (Note: Remember when beyblade was on youtube but each episode was like 4 parts? Good times.)
So, on the topic of Kai.
First of all, I need to point something out that I deem obvious, but must be said.
Beyblade (As well as many other shows from long ago (Yugioh, Naruto, Inuyasha, and Sailor moon come to mind), a lot of us latched on to these shows so hard because of trauma or lonely childhoods. Which means a lot of us find our connections to these shows or characters very personal, which is why it’s hard to break headcannons. It’s more than a fandom for us, and any of us who feel this way, are risking their comfort show to involve themselves in the fandom (This is why I believe a lot of beyblade fans don’t interact with fandom, and I go out of my way to warmly welcome all whenever I can)
It needs to be said, that you owe no explanation to anyone, and neither do I, nor do I apologize for my headcannons.
With this being said, I knew eventually the fandom would blow up (as it has many times, over the idea of biracial Kai/ Kai with Russian ancestry/ Japanese Kai), now that it has hit so close to home, I feel the need to validate my decision to make Kai biracial in my two long main fics. However, it needs to be stated, I am not doing this to validate myself, but because I simply want to talk about it, I’m not explaining, or apologizing, simply stating some facts, and how I feel.
For a lot of us, these characters are so personal and we’ve kept them for so long that they’re verging on OC’s, this is NOT YOUR JOB to point out! Although I believe my Kai is very close to canon, there’s many things that aren’t, regardless, myself and many others, still belong to the fandom.
Back to my childhood:
FINALLY DIAL-UP INTERNET!
The first thing I did when I learned how to read and had private access to internet was google ‘Kai Beyblade’, if you asked, I probably would have said a child’s equivalent to ‘“fuck you that’s why”.
I learned his last name was Hiwatari, and man, I thought that was SO COOL. But that wasn’t a Russian name was it? I dived further, I don’t think the beyblade wiki even existed at this point, I think I was reading everything off of wikipedia. What I read was: Kai’s father was Russian and his mother was Japanese. I didn’t think too much of it, I mean, it made sense. It would explain Voltaire’s connection to Russia. Later on I realised it made more sense for Kai’s mother to be Russian since the Hiwatari name is Japanese and would most likely come from his grandfather, and for some reason, I was convinced Susumu was Voltaire’s son. The idea of Voltaire marrying his son off to some Russian heiress made so much sense to me. I never read fics, my ideas were definitely influenced by wiki edits, I had no reason to doubt it, or think any differently, I think a lot of people followed the same footsteps. It’s interesting to think that’s how headcanons became universal back in the day.
I learned the manga existed after a trip to Metrotown Vancouver where I bought every volume they had (3 lmao) (I still haven’t read every volume, and will when I can afford them).
I just always assumed Kai was biracial, IT JUST MADE SENSE. Kai’s family’s deep ties to Russia, the reason why he knew Russian (regardless of the Abbey), his figure compared to Tyson’s in season 1, I had no reason to doubt it, and it seemed the Dub side of the internet agreed!
When I wrote my fanfics at 18-19, 5 (years ago now, wow), I still assumed Kai was biracial. Only recently have I dived into the fandom and got into every side (Sub, Dub, Manga). I learned there’s 3 things Dub/Sub/Manga people will instantly fight over: Kai’s race, character’s names, and their ages.
The reason these three things are so debated is because of the dramatically different storylines/ differences in language versions. The Dub and Sub are two completely different shows when played side by side. I am most familiar with the Dub, as it stays close to my heart, which influences most of my headcanons.
I still headcanon Kai as biracial. We actually don’t know much about his parents, and canon is very loosey goosey. We’re learning more in Rising, but I highly doubt Takao Aoki is going to be like “AND THEN KAI’S MOM WENT TO VISIT HER RUSSIAN FAMILY IS RUSSIA BECAUSE SHE IS RUSSIAN” I’m not going to go into super detail why I think it’s likely that Kai is biracial, but you know what? It doesn’t really matter. This fandom is old, and being from the early 2000’s that means the dub is much different, which means there are MULTIPLE versions of canons. I guarantee you, in every version there is something problematic, and one of the least important ones, is whether or not the fandom white-washes Kai by making him biracial (Maybe full Russia could be an issue, but you know what? Does it really matter?). You know what DOES MATTER. What they did to Eddy, they did that boy dirty.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I mean they LITERALLY white-washed him. LIKE.
Also changing Tyson/ Takao’s skin tone in G-rev/ V-force will forever annoy me; that might be an asian skin whitening thing though, still, problematic.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But anyways, in the end I’m sure the reason why the English fandom so frequently headcanons Kai as biracial is not because of white-washing, but because of the time the Dub was created.
The early 2000’s was an interesting time. Some towns were still stuck in the 90’s, lots of kids had no access to the internet, and when they finally DID, they did not use it wisely. Misinformation was spread easily. Not many people in America read the manga, and very few people watched the Sub.
People like me, young and old, filled in the gaps that were missing.
It’s been 20 YEARS GUYS. A lot has changed. Headcanons that aren’t problematic will stick. As long as it’s not hurting anybody, or anyone else, it’s really not a bad thing.
Our main focus should be to keep the fandom going! We can’t die, we’ve been together too long to die and I refuse to let it happen, where will I get my serotonin from??
Here’s a pic of my love to end it off:

not to be starting homestuck race disk horse in 2019 but yknow what? I Will.
being an asian fan in the hs fandom is kinda, not great actually. in fact, it not only feels like we’re not here at all, that we’re erased, but its honestly? downright harmful. people treat the trivialization and fetishization of your culture to be,,, like a Big Joak. yall joke about weebs like these people havent been literally grooming and abusing asian girls, like we havent been made fun of enough for Their actions, like we aren't already viewed as the strange punchlines to jokes that still seem somehow acceptable. its somehow funny to joke about how you hate every sign of asian culture that shows up throughout the comics, like how dirk’s kotatsu was dumb and pretentious as if people in japan dont literally live with one and use it every single day!
even asian-coding in characters get swept away in favour of other headcanons. even the megidos, who are as close to canonically asian as they possibly can be in a medium like homestuck, are often drawn white or something completely different altogether. the stridlondes are also heavily asian-coded, and the fans who do pick up on that, who finally feel comforted by someone like them as protagonists? they often just.. give up on that, because they see so little representation in the fandom. (theres only like one popular artist i know of that draws the strilondes asian? but like, hats off to u pal, youre fighting the good fight). also, it seems strange, to be represented so little considering almost 3 billion people on earth is asian, which is, Quite A Lot to be not represented a lot. dont get me wrong, i adore the outpouring of more diverse art of the kids, but a hard truth to swallow is that pocs being weebs/fetishizing asian culture, is just as harmful as white people doing the same. there is a world of difference between japanese dirk, trying to interface with his lost culture by clinging to the most performative and popular parts of it, than another dirk, appropriating people’s cultures because he thinks its funny or interesting based off a show he watched once. i love how people are like "wow the striders like anime and care about traditions and use japanese words and overall just seem like diaspora kids" and the conclusion they draw from that is "clearly,, they cannot be asian" bc a non-asian person being interested in those things is better than an asian person whose interested in their own culture i guess??
in fact, a lot of these narratives are so much more interesting once theyre looked at through their coded lenses!
Dave’s struggle with coming to terms with his emotions strikes such an interesting chord when the striders’ concept of irony and never showing their emotions Correspond so well to the idea of honour/face, where youre not supposed to show that youre Ever Sad or anything that isnt a positive emotion because it shows that youre a Failure and You Failed and that makes you a Bad Person, which is exactly what dave struggles with because hes So Guilty about it, which ties to the guilt and shame a lot of asian people feel about not being able to live up to impossible standards set by their parents, which is another theme we see reflected in all four strilondes.
rose’s strained relations with her mother are mirrored in so many of our second-generation lives and makes so much more cultural sense when looked at that way. the weird distance you hold from your parents, where you cant look each other in the eyes anymore, because every interaction feels more like a business transaction. you hand in your good grades and praise from teachers, talking about how mature you are, and they return with some present or gift that you don't really want. you dont know anything about them, and they dont know anything about you, Not the person you Actually Are, anyways. but there is a yearning, to be close, to know eachother, but you only feel it in return when its too late. as well as her Obsession to be mature, to be smart and adult-like because thats what shes praised for, because you Need to be academically the best always and that means reading dictionaries until the sun goes down, repeating each word until they are engraved into your mind. always finding competition, subtle or not, because if you are not the winner, what are you?  dirk’s wild performative love of japanese culture (which also, in turn, lead to non-asian fans literally trashing it like it was a funny joke to call someone’s culture lame and stupid) seems like ‘ironic’ weebism, but its also being Exactly the type of over-the-too performative reclaiming of our culture that so many asian diaspora kids do when they’re teens! they feel bad about pushing away their culture as youth, but they’re not quite mature enough to actually care about the rich history and ‘boring’ parts, so they cling to pop culture, to social media and something so much more easily consumable, like anime. which is not even to mention the idea of him trying desperately to connect to a culture that he has never grown up in, but still belonged to by consuming mass amounts of media, being Such an immigrant story. as well as his massive competitive streak and need to make other people as good as he is (but not better), is the type of internalized pressure that a lot of asian kids feel as well.
and all the stridlondes have various anxieties about not performing well enough, of not living up to a standard that they have set for themselves, feeling like even a single step back or even one mistake is a catastrophic failure that’s branded to you for life. Which is just as much of a mental health thing as it is like,,, an asian thing
this is getting really long so im cutting myself off here but please if you want to hear more about my Thoughts and Hot Takes feel free to shoot me an ask.
in conclusion: please treat asian people better hs fandom i literally beg you. like,, im Not tryna make waves but,, asian erasure in fandom is a huge issue and no one ever talks abt it!! dont trivialize, fetishize and erase cultures blease  big thanks to @ernikerr and @wyndryga for encouraging me to go Off and helping to write this.
anyone please feel free to rb but non-asian people please watch your mouth

His Dark Materials!
my all-time ultimate fave character:
So far, i’d say my favourite character is probably Lyra! she has that sort of YA novel heroine spunk to her, and she has that feral teenage girl energy that feels perfectly mastered here.
a character I didn’t used to like but now do:
So, since its only series 1, i don’t think my opinion of anyone has changed too drastically across the span of the series, but if we consider the books as well, i’d say maybe... lord asriel? a combination of the fact that the show makes him MUCH more of a likeable character than the books (shout out to that James McAvoy charm) and also that his mission and his goal are so interesting to me.
a character I used to like but now don’t:
There isn’t one really in the show, as far as the show goes all the ‘bad guys’ have been particularly well written and performed so as to make you not like them but also not hate them, and good guys haven’t fallen from grace.
a character I’m indifferent about:
I’m not really very interested in these magesterium croney types, like Father MacPhail and all of that, i think the choice to make them sort of greasy white men who are seaking power was an inspired choice for what the magesterium is meant to be, but they are also sort of like... not overly important, and easily manipulated by Coulter, so they dont come off as very threatening, and therefore i just sort of barely care about them.
a character who deserved better:
ROGER. PARSLOW. AND. SALCILLIA. I am so sad.
a ship I’ve never been able to get into:
So far, the show doesn’t really have that many ships? and the books aren’t exactly romance heavy either. However, i have been seeing some people ‘shipping’ lee and iorek and... please say sike yall.
a ship I’ve never been able to get over:
Okay but i am absolutely obsessed with the idea of Young Masriel. Neither of them are particularly good people, obviously, and they get to a point where they have done unspeakable, unforgivable things, so as much as i do enjoy adult, sort of biting, fighting, fiery Masriel, the idea of two younger people, both brilliant and driven and laced with some level of darkness, meeting at just the right moment where Marisa was willing to risk her entire life just to be with him, because he was her equal in all the ways that mattered... oh man. phillip pullman write me a masriel prequel challenge.
Also, if we’re talking books, Lyra and Will are wonderful.
a cute, low-key ship:
In this HDM podcast i listen too, Daemoncast, Sarah has been sort of talking lately about how, in another world essentially, Lyra and Roger might have grown up and fallen in love? Like in that sort of childhood best friend until one day you realise its more, and i sort of love that idea, that in another timeline, where Lyra had stayed in Jordan and Roger never got gobbled, they would grow up and maybe, one day, fall in love.
an unpopular ship but I still enjoyed it:
What even are the unpopular ships in this fandom? someone tell me. i love an unpopular ship i flock to those suckers.
a ship that was totally wrong and never should have happened:
again... someone fill me in.
my favourite storyline/moment:
So far in the season, my favourite storyline was Lyra travelling with the gyptians, including her time in trollosund, meeting lee and iorek, etc. It was the sort of LotR style adventure through epic scenery, including tons of fascinating exposition and plot points throughout, including her really learning to read the aletheiometer, finding Billy, bonding with Iorek and Lee, meeting Serafine, etc. All in all, a great storyline.
My favourite moment was probably the final moment of the season, where Will and Lyra both walk through the portals.
a storyline that never should have been written:
my first thoughts on the show:
Exciting, BEAUTIFUL to watch, well acted, very promising. it made me want to read the books so bad i bought the whole triology and read it in like a week.
my thoughts now:
a phenomenal adaptations, thought obviously not without fault. still BEAUTIFUL, and also very well adapted, if that makes sense. tying in the plot with will that we get at the very start of The Subtle Knife, so as to make us feel more connected to him before we start season 2, was inspired, and they really shaped the story SO well. Loved it, cant wait for season 2 and three, and im now reading the book of dust series.

You have a lot of fans wondering what happened to you in fan fiction. Like me. My gay Jesus, where has our savior gone?
...bro....
Okay first things first: that is probably the nicest thing anyones ever said to me???? holy shit anon i love you.
Secondly... yeah theres not really an excuse here, i just... havent been feeling it.
Not helped by the fact that I got a new laptop back in the spring, and while I transfered all my files over no problem, I was pirating microsoft word on my old computer, and my usual source of pirated materials (read: dad) gave me a file for it that my computer immediately read as a nasty virus and now refuses to ever interact with again, so. while i have everything, and can look at it whenever I want, i can’t interact with my files in any way shape or form. like, no edits, no additions, i can’t even fucking copy+paste. So I’m using google docs now, except with literally all of my WIPs, the outlining and new chapter files were not complete. So if I want to do any work on them, then it’ll have to be split between beginning on a Word doc, and then picking up on google docs partway through, which seems real fuckin inconvenient so it hasn’t happened yet.
My options are to either cough up and buy the microsoft package, which i dont have the money for, or to find a better pirate source, which is also not an option bcause dad is a giant drama queen and he flips shit and has a guilt trip meltdown if he thinks hes not being appreciated, so me informing him his pirated word didnt work several months after he gave it to me? will not go over well, so there is not a chance in hell i’m doing that. The only solution is to go on my old laptop where i CAN alter the files, and copy-paste them all into google docs, but like... hooooly shit. we’re talking a lot of content here. my outlines tend to get... lengthy, because they’re mostly me rambling to myself. and there’s a lot of WIP projects i’ve got. basically i COULD handle it, but i’m too lazy to actually do so lmao, especially since the whole process would take twice as long cause my old laptop has some case damage around the hinge, which is also by the power button, and means that if the screen moves at all there is a 75% chance it will turn off the laptop. and that gets real old real fast.
All that clusterfuck aside, if we’re talking specific projects, then the rough summary is under the readmore:
Displacement and Division: Haven’t been feeling it. Don’t think I’ve written any new content since I last updated, which was... aaa while ago. I promise, no matter how long it takes, I AM coming back to this one. It’s too far to walk now. It just... may take awhile. Doesn’t help that the outlines and a fair chunk of the next chapter for both fics are locked up in Word. Don’t obsessively check for updates, but hang in there. I’m coming back.
Hooked Into A Machine and Nobody’d Even Notice At All: Both were initially created due to the Great Gods of Hyperfixation causing me to lock into Be More Chill when i discovered it, quickly burn through the entire fandom, and start frantically producing my own content out of sheer frustration. When the hyperfixation wore off... i was able to enjoy non-BMC content again, and wandered off. Whenever I wander back in, updates will occur. ...Don’t hold your breath on these.
Ghost in the Machine: Mix of the two problems, as it was written in the middle of a hardcore Tron hyperfixation, and when I came down, I wandered away. Chapter 3 is about halfway done, only problem is that’s... all locked in Word. Yeah. There’ll probably be more whenever I come back to Tron. It ain’t dead yet.
Cold Flame/Lunam Ignis: Honestly, trying to write a full blown fic of this concept was probably stretching it a bit for me. I had ideas and scenes for Axelnort in DDD, and I wanted to use them, but I felt the need to build up to them first. That... was a mistake, because I didn’t really have anything for Days, and only a handful of stuff for KHII. Honestly, I’d safely call Lunam Ignis dead, I have 0 plans of coming back to that one.
Seemingly Simple Things: These were two blurbs written as a joke, that I probably should not have tried to continue. Don’t expect a chapter 3... well, ever. Apologies all, but I feel anything further would roll over from ‘funny’ to ‘forced’, and I’d rather not. It be like that sometimes.
I’m pretty sure that’s all of my WIPs? If any of these made you go ‘wait what the fuck when was that’, I’ve got an AO3 and an FF.net account, and tbh? my crossposting is not reliable. Some are on both, but a fair amount of fics have just been posted to one or the other. It be like that.
I know I’ve been dead since January (on FF.net) and April (on AO3), but you are going to have to wait a bit - we’re back into NaNo season, so fic is not high on the priority list at the current moment. Apologies, fam.
And now the good news! I AM still writing plenty! Just, none of its gotten to the point of being postable. I’ve had some less intense small fandom hyperfixation frustration fic bursts, so if anyone’s also into TribeTwelve, Stand Still Stay Silent, or Check Please!, then there may be some content going up from those - I’ve got multiple fics in progress for all of those that aren’t just self indulgent fuckery, and will be posted if I can work on them enough to make the plausible.
As for my WIP’s, as I said above, Ghost in the Machine DOES have a chapter 3 about halfway done, and a complete outline for part 1, so that finishing is looking very good whenever I get around to it.
With Displacement, while the next chapter doesn’t have much, the outlines done through to part 7, so I know exactly where we’re steering this trainwreck, and I’ve got a few rough drafts of key scenes in part 4 and 5. I’ve also started on interludes 4 and 5. For those curious, interlude 4 is several non-Evie clones in the 420th unknowingly re-enacting Die Hard, and Michelle’s hair dye saves the day while also causing some truly impressive property damage. The stains left by that incident are never coming out. Interlude 5 is less fun, and more character exploration - namely, the main characters and their thoughts on Michelle. After the events of Part 5, trust me - there’s going to be a LOT of conflict in that area. Especially from Obi-Wan.
As for Division, while I admit the outline is a lot more shaky, and there’s less actual work done, I DO know who the cast is and what I’m doing with them, and I’ve got some rough drafts of crucial scenes, even if I don’t know exactly where those scenes happen yet. It’s gonna be a ride, yall.
And the final, most important piece of good news: As I’m sure you’ve noticed, i am a bitch that really likes talking about their writing. Literally anyone can hit me up asking about anything of mine, and I will probs spam you with a small essay, such as I just did. Tbh, if someone actually did message me to talk about my writing, I give it like a few hours of chatting before I’m linking that someone to a relevant google doc, and/or explaining the entire plot. ...Provided they’re cool with the spoilers, mind you. I ask that first. So seriously - while updates may not be coming until december at the earliest, if you want something to tide you over, be it rough drafts or just paragraphs of information, hit me up. I am literally always down to enthusiastically rant about my writing lmao.
...That goes twice as hard for my original projects, fyi, if someone sent me a message asking about my NaNo project I’d probably cry with joy and tell them everything. it helps me Plot.
The other benefit to messaging me is that I have good cats who are very cute and loving, and I have a compulsive need to show Every Single Person i interact with pics of them, so that’s another inevitable to talking to me.
