it absolutely IS the case in director Kakudou’s novels that it happened in that sort of way!!: (with translations credit to Onkei !):

“ Taichi Yagami was one of the few exceptions ”

“ If Taichi hadn’t inivited him, KOUSHIRO WAS SURE THAT HE WOULD HAVE NEVER GONE     to the summer camp. ”

“ Yagami-san ” -> Koushiro’s ultra-polite mode with honorifics

“ WE’RE IN THE SAME GROUP, ”

( Honestly Toei does seem to be doing things a little differently here this time, but that doesn’t necessarily mean there won’t still be PARALLELS between DigiAdv 2020!Taishiro and original!Taishiro etc. etc. )

BONUS:

In original!Adventure Koushiro is extremely polite, often addressing literally almost everyone his age or near it with the “-san” honorific - even Mimi and Adv!Hikari (girls) don’t get things like “-chan”, he never addresses any of the other Adventure boys with “-kun” etc. except for the younger ones (Takeru), ( only Daisuke, Miyako, etc. get “-kun” and that’s more likely because they’re younger than him / he’s their senpai / upperclassman etc. politeness )

HE STILL GOES STRAIGHT TO THE “ TAICHI-SAN ” FOR TAICHI...

anyway so it’s my headcanon (just my headcanons that is BUT) that for TAICHI PARTICULARLY Koushiro absolutely and EXCLUSIVELY uses the “-san” as a means of extreme respect for Taichi, mainly due to all the above implications YEAH

it’s imo why even by Tri, Koushiro has absolutely not dropped the -san for Taichi even when by that point (especially by Kizuna!!) he absolutely COULD HAVE

... he just doesn’t WANT to because of basically ALL OF THE ABOVE

and so far negl Toei almost. seems to be proving this headcanon RIGHT
