I think sunny is a big fan of the golden retriever/Black cat trope

Him obviously being the black cat needs a little sunshine in his life

His name is such an oxymoron and you probably tease him for it

He tends to hover near people he likes whether that be basil,mari or you

Also has his literal cat moments

Will collect things he thinks you would like

It could be a rock,pretty stones,flowers(ty basil)

He'll then present them to you with his normal neutral look on his face with a proud stature

Sees this as normal behaviour

Give some kudos to him,he's trying

Follows you everywhere

Loves laying his head in your lap

Little picnics with just the two of you

Sunny was pining over you before you guys were dating

I don't think he was ever one of those "ew girls 🤢" type of boy

Your parents brought you over to your new neighbours house for dinner,you were being welcomed into the neighbourhood.You heard from your mother that they had two kids,a boy around your age and a girl a few years older,your father knocked on the door and all of you were greeted by a woman with mid-length curly hair,a calm smile adorned her face. She introduced herself as Mrs.Suzuki,she led all of you to the living room where her family was patiently.Two kids were standing politely next to their father who was sitting down on the couch.

"And this is my husband,____ Suzuki and my two children,Sunny and Mari,come and say hello." She called out to her offspring.A young boy and girl approached you and your parents,

"It's nice to meet you!" The girl said with a bright smile,holding out her hand to shake.You and your parents shook her hand one by one,although she was lovely,your young childish mind couldn't help but notice the boy behind her,holding onto her shirt and poking his head out from behind her.When you two locked eyes he hid behind his sisters torso.

"Don't be like that sunny,say hi to our new neighbours!" Mari said with a sympathetic smile towards her brother,understanding of his shyness as she nudged him towards your family,moreso you.You decide to take control of the conversation as you stuck your hand out to the boy,lightly grabbing his one into a handshake as you introduced yourself,he still had yet to say anything.He was either shy or just wasn't interested in talking to you.

Sunny had a whole different story going on in his head,admittedly he wasn't particularly interested in meeting new neighbours,no bad blood or anything,his was simply content with how his life was currently.

Until he saw you,it wasn't love at first sight,he just never took into account that he would be around you for years to come.

His first thought was that you were pretty

He couldn't speak though,despite his innocent attraction he was still pretty shy

He didn't talk to you all dinner,as you were leaving,both of your parents talking and Mari doing god knows what in the pantry,he tapped you on the shoulder and presented you with a singular white chrysanthemum,courtesy of basil.

It had taken you aback seeing as how he hadn't talked so much as looked at you all dinner

It was a surprise to everyone when you were back at their house the next day,hand in hand with sunny,talking his ear off about god knows what,while he listened with the faintest smile on his face and a fuchsia blush on his cheeks

hi mei, if you had to choose five fictional characters you relate to the most and why who would you pick?

I don't exactly remember everyone, but there's a lot! I just chose the most recent ones and the ones that gave me the deepest impression:

Frieren - Everything about her character is so relatable to me from being somewhat of a prodigy in her field to losing someone close to her and deciding that she'd never repeat the same mistakes again. She either doesn't sleep or sleeps for a very long time. She has a hard time expressing her feelings to those close to her. She can also be immature at times.

Shijima Mei (TBHK) - Because of her will to create/live in a fake world where everything is perfect and everyone is happy. She does this for herself and might also put real people into this "fake world" because she believes that it's for their happiness. She was so set on following her dreams that she committed suicide because her parents wouldn't support her dreams of becoming an artist/studying art.

Ganyu (Genshin Impact) - Workaholic. It doesn't matter how sleepy she is if there is still work to be done. She immediately falls asleep afterward, though. Also, she has a lot of reservations about her weight/what she eats. Very good at giving others advice despite never following them herself. Really strong sense of responsibility/duty too.

Durandal (Honkai Impact) - Never really had a childhood. The only thing she had that was her own was her name. She was forced to endure a lot of stuff as a kid and ended up growing to be the strongest. Also ended up becoming super gentle and caring (especially to those younger than her) because she didn't experience anything of the sort growing up.

Aubrey (OMORI) - The main reason I put her here is because of how she deals with negative emotions. She feels as if the world just keeps moving too fast when everything has stopped for her. Everyone else moves on with their lives seemingly way too quickly and she feels as if she was the only one who ever cared in the first place. All of those negative thoughts build up and turn into anger towards herself and everyone and everything around her.

I thought about this long and hard. I think if there will be an omori 2 it’ll go further into basils character. I think the ‘true ending is the one where we save Basil. From what I understand and believe, Basil saw somebody hang them self which is why he jumped to that with Mari. I’m assuming this due to the fact we’re not really shown much about the real world Basil and I truly believe a kid wouldn’t pick that and I don’t believe he knew about hanging otherwise. I think his parents dropped him at his grandparents after the fact probably cause they didn’t want to deal. I’m assuming Basil witnessed somebody he cares about truly hang them self’s and saw how quickly people moved on which is why he thought doing the same thing to Mari would protect Sunny. With the whole sibling theme of Omori I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s revealed to be an older sibling/cousin probably a male rather then female. I’m going to guess this person probably told him stories of the ‘something’ as a coverup for their suicidal thoughts and probably was the first person who made the ‘stay with you’ promise and broke it which would explain why he has breakdowns over it. I’m betting (if we get another game or something) Basil either had an older brother or a cousin who was like a brother that struggled with depression and suicidal thoughts. He and Basil was very close and he probably told Basil about the something as a way to confide in him or something before deciding to kill himself by hanging himself. Basil probably witnessed it when he wasn’t supposed to. I think that would most likely explain why Basil is the way he is and why he picked certain ideas that really shouldn’t be in a 12 year olds head. I agree he was neglected by his parents but I think at a time he was with this family member and then was brought to his grandmother because his parents didn’t want to deal with his trauma. It would explain why he latched onto the gang and sunny so hard and why he didn’t want sunny to leave because this other person promised to never to leave him and did permanently. Oh I’m so sorry for rambling. I’ve had this thought in my head for sometime and was worried I’d be attacked for it. Mental illness or not I highly doubt Basil would have come to that conclusion and be that dependent on sunny for no reason other then his parents not being around. I think he witnessed a real suicide... like I said I’m just assuming but I think that’s gonna be revealed either in a new game or manga or something like that. And that person was an older sibling figure who first brought the concept of the never leaving him promise/ something being a monster who controls people/hanging them self - suicide. It lines up I think? Sorry again for the bother!!

I have to say I honestly disagree with almost everythinf you said, tho. That doesn’t mean it’s bad or anything and it makes for great headcanon! But I don’t agree this all lines up.

About the whole “A twelve year old wouldn’t come up with this” thing... that’s kinda subjective. I remember having some fucked up ideas at that age myself and knew kids my age with very fucked up ideas so I kinda don’t think that Basil being twelve means he was incapable of formulating his own dark ideas.

Another thing: there’s actually a possibility Basil and Sunny got ideas from the book he was reading and asked Sunny to read as well. It’s suggested they were reading A Picture Of Dorian Grey. The demo has this as the only book Sunny knows by name in Headspace and one of the main characters is an artist named Basil.

Although this book seemed to have impacted Sunny most (his obsession with knives, his reflection and wanting to stab Basil), it also features around 2 or 3 suicides. People with psychosis can end up having lots of trouble distinguishing fiction from reality (Sunny has this problem a lot) and with how many ideas Sunny got from Dorian Grey, I wouldn’t be surprised if Basil did as well.

Another thing about Basil: there’s not really anything that suggests Basil had any siblings or an older cousin he loved. Sunny knows him like the back of his hand (to the point that he can predict through his dreams what real world Basil will say and/or do). Sunny’s dreams never suggest Basil has siblings or someone like that. Basil said Sunny knew all his hopes, fears and problems, too.

I also don’t think there’ll be a sequel to the game. I would be super happy if there was, tho! I just don’t really think it’ll happen and if it does, it would take forever to be released as well 😔.

In a theoretical sequel, maaaaybe Basil would be revealed to have seen someone he really cared ahout commit suicide but with what information we get from thw game, I don’t think that would be it.

This sibling/older cousin idea would make for interesting headcanons and fics, tho!
