Watching YouTube reactions to the last Agatha All Along episode I'm struck by how many people seem to disregard Agatha's actual grief and regret over, IMO, accidentally draining Alice to death. (Question mark?)

The Nerdy Nightly channel's review on the episode had a more nuanced take recognizing not only Agatha's complexity but also the metaphor of addiction that applies not just to Agatha, but to almost everyone in the coven.

I'm glad more people are discussing this metaphor for Agatha. It makes Agatha so interesting.

Also, in light of this, I think we can't push past that Evanora's ghost meant for Agatha to drain someone in the coven so they would all turn against her.

It's almost like pushing an addict off the wagon, except pushing Agatha off the sobriety train means people die.

Jac Schaeffer was never interested in simplistic morality plays. She is committed to exploring characters in all their complexities, allowing them to be their fullest, often flawed, selves.

Schaeffer explained her character writing approach while writing WandaVision:

“It was important to us that it be all Wanda and that it would be her responsibility because we didn’t want—we weren’t doing Mephisto, Nightmare, the Grim Reaper, or any other people or entities,” Scheffer explained. “If we’re not going to take the cheap way out that there’s this other force, right, if we’re going to give the gift of storytelling to Wanda, I give the whole power, she also then has the culpability and has the accountability.”

And it seems Schaeffer's views on writing have changed with Agatha All Along. She doesn't want an easy answer for Agatha's character, and that's genuinely refreshing. For a Disney+ character to be allowed to have her flawed and authentic self?

It feels right. It feels real.

Schaeffer mentions this in a recent interview with Script Mag:

I think the fun of Tony Stark is that he wants to be bad, but he's a hero despite himself. But Agatha is not that. Agatha is not a hero, despite herself. Agatha is entirely selfish and self-serving. I don't know, I feel like it should have been harder. It should have been more like, 'Oh, gosh, how are we going to make this villain sympathetic?' But it wasn't that challenging because she's not. It's never her aim to hurt someone. She doesn't hurt anyone just for the fun of it. She's interested in two things: She’s interested in what serves her and she's interested in witchcraft, specifically, enormously powerful witchcraft.

Schaeffer goes on to say that all main characters in Agatha All Along function as anti-heroes. And the writers go on lengthy debates about the story beats and character choices.

Later on in the same interview with Script Mag, Schaeffer discusses Agatha's hidden motivations.

The way I defined Agatha—prior to the room, prior to anything—is that she's a liar, that it's just masks. This show is about pulling that mask all the way off. And what do we see? What is under the mask? It's hard to talk about at this point because there's so many spoilers inherent in that. 

But I think what you can get from the earliest episodes is that, yes, she wants power, right? That's her superficial goal. That's her super objective. But that can't be it, right? That's boring. What's underneath it? And it's fairly clear from the beginning that she reluctantly wants community, that this is a covenless witch who, deep down, wants a coven. And that's fascinating to me. What did Wanda want? She wanted to be safe and cozy with her family. That was a that was a very clear, true north. But there, the friction was the sort of logistical trappings were untenable. For Agatha, she's in the way of her own thing. And it's much more of a subtext and a fabric that we then exploit and explore deeper into the show.

I love that we haven't been reading Agatha wrong -- Agatha does want, deep down, to have a community but she's been wearing her mask for too long that Agatha's also her own worst enemy. Her reputation and defensive persona push people away.

When backed into a corner, Agatha slips on the mask of a villain because if she hurts them first, then no one can hurt her.

It's so fun and interesting to have a character like Agatha again! Especially within Disney+ Marvel's ecosystem of shows.

Netflix Marvel used to feature similarly complex characters but Disney+ Marvel shows have struggled to find that line.

On Agatha All Along eps 8-9

I'm feel about the same as @p-taryn-dactyl's answer and @ennn in this post.

But yeah I'm really disappointed that we didn't have a full Agatha backstory. Nothing about why her mother was so bent on thinking she was evil from birth, nor anything about her and Rio's beginnings. I do appreciate they took the time to show us her life with her son, to really show how desperate she was to keep him alive and how she just embraced the killings right after her double heartbreak (losing her son that way, Rio taking him while she was asleep etc). But then it took time from other things. So I hope there's still a possibility we learn more things about her while a chatty ghost but we'll, this was supposed to be her show first, next time we see her it probably won't be centered on her.

Also not really happy about is how they really went there with Billy having created the Road. Not only I fear the fighting between fans now (I sure as hell wish one day I could be in a fandom were people wouldn't be aweful to each other or to actors/crew members etc, like wishing death on people wth!!? or even on beloved characters that's just mean), but also it means that they used this opportunity of introducing him by already kind of giving him the guilt and trauma from the Mother arc in Young Avengers 2. So that means they did this, taking it away from being a YA story, and either never having him do that again and so not really exploring the full "reality bending powers so huge they can alter the world and he isn't controlling them yet but his friends and love are here with him and he is the Demiurge" story, or they would make him do that again in some other story and I think that would be worse... Nobody would need such a plot a third time after this and Wandavision. I understand, "parallels" and all, but no 3rd.

Not much infos about Death too, I was hoping for at least some answers to my questions here. There will be other occasions (but I don't have much hope on this front, I fear other writers would more likely just make her a joke character, to just be there looking sexy and weird, flirting with some dude, without much depth 🤔).

Then Alice.

I can appreciate the bitter sweet realization that she did indeed fulfill her purpose at least once. But ugh, a white woman who already lived very very long, and it was a very long psychopathic life, got saved then while the Asian quite young for a witch and very kind person, who barely got her chance at a good life freed from her curse, dies protecting her? Not a good look for this show. I do enjoy seeing Agatha being the equivalent of a pirate, just enjoying life doing crimes, free in a patriarchal world, but not at this kind of cost and without real consequences (she'll get a chance at life back surely).

I'm just glad that at least Jen got a second chance. After having suffered for a whole century as a Black woman, so not exactly having much rights for a big part of it (they didn't think this through when they cast her I bet, it should have been at least mentioned), alone and with nothing to her name, because of said white woman - I was worried they also go there and it would be part of the 'haha it was Agatha all along " thing, but hoped they won't... anyway that also sting man.

I guess I'm also disappointed about the lack of answer to Billy's question if he is Billy or William, and no apparently recovering much memories, but I'm guessing they might tell that story an other time. Maybe.

Basically I did like this show, it had a lot of good things, awesome visuals and costumes, good directing & cinematography, great cast, interesting characters. But it is super disturbing to me how writers don't seem to understand they can't just kill a bunch of characters they made the viewers love, so easily/quickly/kind of cheaply. The only death here who is really acceptable imo was Lilia's, it was indeed the choice of a long lived person who saved several people in doing so and will have several long lasting effects (getting Agatha rid of the Salem Seven, giving advice and his book to Billy, having Jen trust and care for other witches again). Sharon being played for laughs is now in fact a serious guilty memory to Billy, even though it's an accident in this situation in his part and very much Agatha's fault (she brought the 'civilian' there, what was she going to do to her anyway after killing the other 3 like she was originally planning, just let her go? I somehow doubt it 😅), and while he already feels guilty about how he and Tommy are still alive, plus the whole Alice's case, that's kind of cruel frankly.

Anyway, I'm still going to hope that Secret Wars will bring us Alice from an alternate reality, that they don't screw up the Young Avengers too much, and that the lessons about optimizing a show/movie's budget with good practical effects and art and time, will be learned.Next generation of writers please be less homicidal with the characters. Keep the open mindedness of this generation when it comes to queer stories and the concept of intricate plots of the 2000-2010's dark area, add the low stakes fun adventures of the previous generations, and let's try and be more mindful of the racism, I see this gen is trying but they don't get it yet clearly.We'll get there 🤞

It’s different with the clones because they were made that way, but this is… They have no way to remember who they were.

“Finn,” Poe decides, cheerfully. I can’t help but smile at the… adorableness of it. “I call you Finn.”

“Does he have anywhere to go?” I ask.

“No,” Anakin replies, subdued, “We have no record of his identity.”

“He stay with me!” Poe announces, importantly.

We all instantly look to Trace, who looks hopeful. Rafa sighs. “We do not have –”

She huffs. 

Somehow, I know what she’s going to end up deciding, even before she does. At least we’ve found another home for one of them. Right now, I can only be silently grateful that I’ve found my way back to my own home.

I never expected today could go like this, that I’d finally be reunited with all of my family again, but I can only hope that from here on, we’ll have a chance to rebuild what we once had. Maybe something better. I have to hope.

the best thing about someone as real as huang enyu is that you know when he says stuff like this, hes not just saying things or the attention or to be polite 

he means it. he really trusts lin mo, which i love!! 

as someone who’s never even been in the same group as lin mo, for him to say this so directly... it just shows how much the kids all can visibly SEE lin mo’s talent, which is somehow lost on most of the rest of the world. hes so respected and hes shown himself off so well!! but this time, lin mo’s really in for a big challenge. a style hes not used to, a group hes not familiar with, a bunch of unpopular kids who may need his help to dance, but at least with a song that has so much negative attention, at least they’ll get some attention, and itll be especially amazing if he really can turn this around to be a great performance. if anyone can do it, i believe in lin mo too, like enyu

Honestly this, you expressed what I was thinking. Also so many people are married to the idea Wanda’s a villain because of her comics counterpart and because of the hostages, which was something Wanda didn’t even do consciously. Like if she was allowed some sort of ceremony to honor Vision and say goodbye to him, Wanda’s explosion of grief wouldn’t have turned into the Hex. She was willing to say goodbye!

But no, it was Hayward’s duty apparently to turn Vision into a weapon because of the stolen vibramium the US government supposedly own. Which actually it doesn’t. If anyone has a claim on Vision it’s Wanda and Wakanda!

Fıruyit Bar

Urfa’da işimden arta kalan zamanlarda vaktimi dolduracak çeşitli şeyler arayışımda en son tam bir tırlatmış insanın yapacağı gibi sağlıklı beslenme thing’lerine sardım. Daha önce de sağlıklı beslenmeyi deniyordum ama efendim internetten kefir mayası siparişi olsun, yok fermente baklagil yapacağım diye en uygun kavanozu arama olsun veya turşu yapma kariyerime başlayacağım diye ardıç ağacı tohumu gibi normal şartlar altında asla almamamız gereken gıdaları internetten sipariş vermek suretiyle evime istemeye başladım.  Bu durumda elbette o kargonun takibi, nereye gelmiş merakı derken heyecan dolu günler geçiyor. Her bir sipariş geldiğinde - ooo turşucu açmaya bir gün daha yakınlaştım- umutları beni hayata bağlıyor filan. Öyle bir çaresizlik hali LOL. Bugün kefir mayaladım, evde bir canavar yarattığımdan şüpheleniyorum ama biliyorsunuz ki sağlık için HER ŞEYİ YEMEYE ve HER ŞEYİ İÇMEYE adadık kendimizi. Çünkü max 80 yıl yaşayacağımız bu hayatı en verimli, en sağlıklı, en ajda pekkan şekilde geçirmek  z o r u n d a y ı z.  Bu arada kargocuların bu sık ziyaretleri hem kendilerinin kafasını yormuş hem de bizim Ahmet’in kafasını yormuş vaziyette zira beni evde de yakalayamıyorlar bir türlü. Ahmet saolsun teslim alıyor, akşam da hemen teslim ediyor. Abla kargo geldi, abla yine kargo geldi, abla sana hep kargo geliyor şeklinde ilerliyor şu ara dostluğumuz. Neyse bu gün beklediğim büyük teslimat gerçekleşti. Muhtemelen tadı iğrenç olan ama içtiğimde adeta kendimi Fiji’de tatilde veya nebileyim Nepal’de nirvanaya ermiş şekilde bulduracak çeşitli çaylarım, ennn önemli turşu malzemesi olan sarı hardal tohumu? gibi lüzumsuz şeylerim geldi. VE ELBETTE GLUTENSİZ BİR TAKIM SAÇMA SAPAN YİYECEKLER <3 

Kargoyu teslim eden çocukla en az 10 kere konuştuğumdan Ayşe abla filan diyor telefonda, teslim ettim ben Ahmet agabeye, he vallaha alırsın ondan sagol filan dedi, kapattık. 15 dakika sonra çocuk yine aradı; -ablaaeee bu senin paketi biz yırtmışız aaeeee ordan bir şey düşmüştür, eee onu nasıl yapalım, dedi.  - anlamadım, paket mi yırtılmış bir şey mi düşmüş yani, dedim.  - ya evet kusura bakma ya, nasıl yapalım, dedi.  - ne düşmüş, paketi zarar görmüş mü peki, dedim. - aaaaeeee yok yok, kapalı hala paketinde zarar yok, dedi.  - peki düşen ney, ne yazıyor üstünde, dedim.  - abla eeeee FIRUYİT BAR yazıyor böyle bir şey, dedi.  - ıfıfıfıffffff ehhheeeeaaa ıııııııfffffff tamam ya, gofret gibi bir şey o ister sen ye, ister çöpe at, dedim.  - eaa helal et ama ha, dedi.  - ya helal olsun nolcak filan dedim, kapattık. 

Şu an kulaklarımda o fıruyit deyişi, bir yandan aklımda neden fruit bar ısmarladığım gibi deli sorular, bir yandan DKJHFJDS diye gülmem filan. Bu gün de olaysız geçmedik çok şükür ne diyem ya.
