whyyy are the writers being so weird about this phone it's giving the same energy as when they had josie say to alaric that caroline had told her they had a friend in town she could stay with and that specific way it was said made it sound like just one person who she didn't know at all.... and then went on to reveal that it was delena

like to me it felt pretty blatant that the phone call was josie cause why else would it open with him talking about how he was missing his daughters that day (so therefore i'm glad that you my daughter josie have checked in) i don't really get how other hizzies can read that differently. it is weird to not confirm it the next episode when hope turned her humanity on like what purpose does dangling that serve the story? esp when obvi the writers know hosies accuse them of baiting every day

i feel like in that other instance people were guessing mfg members, namely elena or bonnie, but yeah. and in this case, i understand some ‘omg who!!’ (namely from alaric using a detached tone), but the asking about lizzie makes it more likely than a lot of these other guesses. i understand people hoping for caroline as well though.

either way, if it’s meant to be a surprise/still vague/something meant to be explicitly addressed at a later episode, i feel like it’s better to (1) not respond to people begging for clarification (2) say exactly what layne did. because if it’s so ‘obvious’ and ‘shouldn’t be a question’, why not answer them, lmfao? some of them aren't even being particularly rude about asking, they just want to know so they and everybody else can stop arguing about it, and i'd be frustrated with a goofy non-answer as well.
