[PIECE] — for our muses to do a puzzle

Shoes off, and legs crossed on the living room floor, Virek sat directly across from the vampire. The coat he wore was off and folded on the floor next to him, while he proceeded to roll up his hoodie sleeves.

It was definitely a bold question, for Ruki to have invited the human into his home like this— And to be frank, Virek had almost declined. Who knows what kinds of activities the other got up to behind these doors… However, he’d never actually ‘hung out’ with another person before. At least not doing an activity as tame as they were about to do right now. And besides, if he had declined or invited Ruki to his home, he was afraid of questions or suspicion. So, just by pure curiosity and the desire to not rouse any unsolicited questions, Virek agreed.

Now there the two sat, in front of a box full of… Blank puzzle pieces? It wasn’t the first time Virek had seen such a set, hell he’d even completed a bunch of them. Yet none with this many pieces to place together. By most’s standards, the Vampire would have been insane… By Virek’s standards? Perhaps they were more similar than he had anticipated. Or at least equally insane enough to willingly engage in this kind of puzzle.

❝ When you mentioned spending time together, I never imagined this is what you meant—❞

He looked at the box with a neutral expression, and slightly raised eyebrows. Virek’s own way of showing contempt, and slight intrigue.

❝ Though that doesn’t mean I’m complaining… Who knew you were smart enough to put one of these together by yourself. ❞

Virek’s words were lighthearted, as his hand sorted through the what could have been thousands of pieces. He looked almost thoughtful while he did so, as if he were recalling something.

Previously, the boy had been timed when doing these. Having a set time limit, being challenged to start with certain pieces that weren’t obvious corners— Blank puzzles like these really were a favourite to his old… Educators. But perhaps this one would be a bit more enjoyable with another person around.

The human picked up a random piece, which didn’t look to belong to one of the corners.

Eyes focusing on placing the piece down, Virek didn’t even look up at Ruki when he spoke again.
