Drafting on my new Stucky fic and once again thinking about how Steve can't resist the Bucky Barnes Razzle Dazzle, even when (especially when) he sees right through it. And how Bucky doesn't mind when Steve acts like a belligerent maniac because he likes the horsepower.
bucky anxiety scale based on how clingy to steve he is (specifically in hot neighbor and backhoe)
Um yes I adore this! It's not something I have thought about concretely but it makes perfect sense to me and is definitely how I have written them.
What's so beautiful about it is that Steve (and the reader) (okay and also Becca in whatever universe I haven't murdered her in, obviously) are often the only ones that know about the secret Bucky anxiety scale because he's so good at hiding it with most people.
And Steve being somewhat bad at feelings, which is not an insult, I think Steve cares about feelings and wants to be useful re: feelings but that does not mean he's all that good at them which I think is very charming actually.
I digress (who me, digress?) but my dearest friend in the world who I would die for and has my kids in her will and I just spent like 20 hours landscaping the yard in her new house in extreme heat because giving people berry plants in aesthetic arrangements and researching soil amendments is how I show affection. Anyway this dear human is so good at feelings that I sometimes don't want to tell her things because she is so perceptive and empathetic and lovely that I can't handle it when I'm already on the edge. I have learned to text her and say, "this terrible thing happened please don't respond I'm in my masculine stare at the wall in a manful fashion stage of grief and I can't handle kind words" and she always gets it ( because she is so fucking good at feelings)(i love her).
BUT ANYWAY I think Bucky is a person who wants to have control over how he is perceived (more so than most) and Steve is one of the few people that is not the case for.
I think one reason that Bucky can trust Steve with his messiest messy parts is that sometimes Steve is a little oblivious and doesn't even notice exactly how messy Bucky is being.
Or Bucky can pretend Steve doesn't notice. Steve sometimes does notice, he's not that bad, and as they know each other better over time, he can see right through the old Bucky Barnes razzle dazzle. (he loves and respects the razzle dazzle. Seeing through it only makes it more charming to Steve). And he has learned Bucky likes him to pretend he doesn't notice when Bucky is a 10 on the old Cling to Steve-o-meter.
Which is fine by Steve as he just wants to be helpful. So Bucky can cling away and Steve will be like, "hey feel like having tacos tonight, Buck? How about I cook and you sit on the counter next to me, if you don't mind."

Still thinking about how Edwin would feel if he knew that Orpheus and Eurydice weren't just a story.
Like, Orpheus was a real man who went to the Underworld to save the love of his life; he walked down the same stairs as Charles.
Edwin was standing were Eurydice was when he pulled Charles to face him

u don't understand. JJ being quiet (personality-wise) and patient and sweet didn't work because he was uwu baby, it worked because he was the bastion of complete unflappability and calm in the wildly chaotic household we created from the other egos. Marvin sets off an explosive spell on accident and everyone is screaming while JJ heats his tea over a little fire. Schneep has passed out on the couch at four in the morning with plans to create a machine that could potentially destroy time scattered around on the floor and JJ's pondering how cool the physics are while Jackie calls a panicky emergency meeting about it on the porch. Chase is angsting out of his mind and JJ's all "I'm from the past and I need someone to show me Jurassic Park." it's not naivete or even always cheerfulness, he just has a very limited numbers of damns to give. plenty clever enough to keep up with everybody else, but with no need for a power trip. secretly badass when needed. doin his own thing in his own time. never bothered by anything, honestly barely even scared of Anti anymore, just exasperated. may or may not have the ability to stop people's hearts with a swing of his pocketwatch but that's not really important rn, he's more focused on convincing his brothers to let him get a hedgehog.

RAYLLUM S6 MEME:  scenes [2/7] 6x05, “moonless night”
There's something there for you, too. Quasar diamonds. If we get them, I can use them to cast the spell to get Runaan and your parents out of the coins. I've been studying star magic, I know the runes and the draconic words, all we need is the quasar diamonds, so let's go. No, Callum. I want to help my parents, but I won't let it bias me. / And in return, the heavens will adorn them? What do you think that means? / I don't understand! Why isn't this working? / Listen, that spell should've worked. It was driving me crazy all night, but I finally figured it out. What is this? It's the Corona of the Heavens. Then those are... Quasar diamonds! The only thing that can bring back your family. You knew. You knew this was the reward. Why didn't you tell me? 'Cause I know you, Rayla. If I'd told you, you would've refused to go, because you never do anything for yourself. So I wanted to do something for yourself... for you. Or something like that? Listen, I probably should've told you, but please don't be mad, I... [Hugs him]

Dean and Maedhros in their own versions of hell.
Dean and Maedhros as older brothers who refuse to leave their little brothers alone in the world.
Dean and Maedhros who reforge themselves in the armour of their pain.
Dean and Maedhros making choice after choice, kill after kill advertantly and inadvertently, wanting to regret but being unable to because at least their little siblings are alive.
Dean and Maedhros tired but fighting on
Dean and Maedhros as the best of the best. Unreachable. Untouchable.
Dean and Maedhros making allies left right and centre in a final push
Dean and Maedhros who know they’re doomed by try anyway.
Sam and Maglor taking up the mantle their big brothers left. Ill fitting. Lonely.
Sam and Maglor doomed from birth wishing they weren’t so.
Sam and Maglor making choice after choice because everyone might be willing to let their big brother suffer, but they never will.
Sam and Maglor who’ve had that choice taken away one too many times and never forgiving themselves
Sam and Maglor following their brother’s footsteps even when it tears at their throat because they can’t fail them again.
Sam and Maglor knowing their brothers are in hell.
Sam and Maglor having to watch themselves fail and someone else succeed. Never thinking of being anything but thankful for it. Amazed their brother forgave them.
Sam and Maglor at the end of everything alone. Their big brother dead. Nothing but grief in his wake.
Sam and Maglor living on because they made a promise, they have a purpose to fulfil, and they won’t let their brother’s pain be for nothing.
Dean, Maedhros, Sam, and Maglor fighting tooth and nail against their fates until they’re dragged kicking and screaming. These brothers who didn’t know what they were getting into, but it’s too late now.
But they’ll pull every scrap of good they can out of it.
What choice do they have?
John and Fëanor weeping over the fates they brought on their children.
John and Fëanor consumed with madness and vengeance, pulling their sons into their vendetta, no matter the cost.
John and Fëanor dooming their sons to a fate worse than death.
John and Fëanor knowing what they’ve done is unforgivable.
John and Fëanor whose sons sometimes can’t figure out if they love or hate them.
Dean and Maedhros so so tired at the end of it all. A final death is their only release.
Sam and Maglor as the ones who watch them and have to survive.
…At least we know Sam gets to see his big brother again.

Surprised no one has said anything about the clear comparison between Marcille talking about using a dog to harvest mandrakes, knowing that the dogs would die in the process, and Laois explaining that people recruit Halflings into their parties to listen for mermaid songs, knowing that sometimes the Halflings also die in the process

I don't think Maria Bertram believed in romantic love as a concept before she met Henry Crawford. She doesn't really have any examples of it- Sir Thomas shows Lady Bertram respect and she shows him deference, but whatever spark might have existed there once is long gone before Fanny arrives at Mansfield. Her Aunt Norris probably spends more time at the Park than the Parsonage, we never *meet* Mr Norris- their partnership isn't going to inspire Maria with hopes of being able to emulate it. She gets engaged to Rushworth because he is rich, because he's handsome enough to look at, because her aunt wants her to and society expects it, and because she wants out of her father's house. She has no reason to think of marriage as a partnership, or anything other than a transaction that allows a woman to move in society independent of her father. And on that score, she can be pleased with the prospect that Rushworth offers her. The problem is that, unbeknown to herself as much as anyone else, Maria *is* a romantic, she *is* capable of falling hard, she just didn't have the opportunity to learn that about herself before she got engaged. And I can't help but feeling it must have come as a nasty shock when she realised, too late, that she found Crawford more than generically agreeable. Which doesn't excuse what happened- and she really should have taken the out when Sir Thomas offered it- but its fascinating to think about....

The longer I look at Operetta’s doll the more she just doesn’t look worth 60 bucks to me.
Like she’s cute but she really just looks like a G1 playline doll and I don’t think that’s worth it tbh.

crazy to think about how I first read tsc when I was 14/15 and how I was the same age as Kit & Ty & Livvy. and now tlkof is going to come out around when I turn 22 and they're going to be 18 (& 15) still. I'll probably be 24 when the last book comes out like. I'll be 24 and Livvy will still be 15....

We've bought into the idea that education is about training and "success", defined monetarily, rather than learning to think critically and to challenge. We should not forget that the true purpose of education is to make minds, not careers. A culture that does not grasp the vital interplay between morality and power, which mistakes management techniques for wisdom, which fails to understand that the measure of a civilization is its compassion, not its speed or ability to consume, condemns itself to death.
