Now that we're entering into 2024, I'm asking some artists and writers that I follow:

1) What is the one piece you're most proud of from this past year?

2) What are some pieces that you would have liked more people to see? If you can include links, I'd love to go check them out!

3) What were your top three favorite pieces (art, comics, fics, etc) that someone else has made this past year?

This is such a sweet and fun ask!! Thanks so much! I enjoyed seeing other authors answering this it’s so hype to get it myself.

1. This is hard to answer, because this year I tried to do something different with every fic I posted. When I got a concept I very pointedly didn’t shy away from it because it seemed difficult, or I thought I might be bad at it, so there’s something that makes me proud with each one. IF I HAD TO CHOOSE THOUGH I’m going to cheat and pick two.

What it Will Be I’m proud of this because it fell out of me SO EASY. I felt like the process of writing it was a testament to how hard I’ve been working at improving all year, and it came together very quickly and very well. I’m also proud because I incorporated @heckitall ‘s comic page to base it off of, and I’d never tried writing fic for a visual media like that. It was super fun!

On the OTHER end of the spectrum is Case of the Hidden City vs Lou Jitsu because it is VERY technically and narratively complicated and is by far the most ambitious thing I’ve ever written. It’s very hard, but I am VERY proud because I haven’t QUIT it. It’s not complete yet, but it is a good amount of the way there and I’m excited to finish it. Probably once I’ve recovered from surgery lol.

2. This sounds insincere maybe, but I really am happy with the engagement I get on my fic. I really do write my fic for me, and while I love to make sure as many people who want to read it can find it, at the end of the day I don’t like assigning people homework! I went through my whole works list and scratched my head and really tried to think of there was anything I wanted to plug, and I don’t think there is!

I guess I’ll post my lowest viewed, my Swanatello fic! @tangledinink ‘s AU I’m sure everyone’s familiar with lol. I knew that one would be lower when I posted it, if only because it has prior required reading (Swanatello). But I wrote it mainly because the AU was starting to reach a critical point and I REALLY wanted to write fanfiction of how I fantasized an ending might be, so I could go back and read it for comfort. I love Odette and the lore Kayson made for his AU, so I’ll plug this only because I think some people may have missed it!

3. Three works!! JUST THREE?? AUGH.

Not only was it one of the best fics I’ve ever read, but I got the privilege of seeing how talented Rem is behind the scenes a little and saw how they write and work and I really want to emulate them going forward. One of many all timer fics for me, for sure, I’d love to read any original fiction they put out.

The Whispering Forest and Other Tales

I love love LOVE the feudal Japan fusion, the research, and the perfect blend of Usagi Yojimbo’s universe with what the Riseverse would have been like in this era. Even the little segues into what they’re wearing and eating is endlessly fascinating to me. Every single character is written to be the best and most interesting version of that character I could imagine. Theres Leosagi, there’s a PB&J murder mystery, there’s spookiness- AND Raphael Hamato gets wifed up!! WHAT MORE COULD YOU WANT? I love people that write a fully fleshed story that could be a standalone universe, without losing ANY of the flavor or humor or narrative of the original source material.

@tangledinink has such a good grasp of family and writing, and realistic portrayals of what would HONESTLY HAPPEN if you discovered literally any aspect of the ROTTMNT narrative. Not even taking into ACCOUNT the turtle nonsense, how do you unpack a family that’s been devoted to destroying a magic monster and sacrificing themselves, or a Dad that fought in a death match battle royale for over a decade, or a RIVAL CLAN OF NINJA? All the characters are written SO WELL, and Kayson does a fantastic job of never letting the characters or story fall into cliche tropes. Their characters are always super detailed, to the point where I really feel it if they’re hungry or hurt or itchy. Which is a weird thing to point out but they make sure you really FEEL the situation. Also like, turtles in highschool? Body dysphoria? My CO-CEO of Hamato Yoshi???

What a great year!! I had so much fun in fandom this year and made a lot of friends.

At the beginning I thought this coworker would be mostly stoic to everyone save for his s/o but as in like other oc being a bit nice? As in I don't really like to interact with others but I like this one, that's why the whole trying to meet them or the bar scene, but then he turned out to be a sort of 'macho' how sad, just like Monty on best of both worlds, he's the kind of people I would run away from, yes Monty backs down after shouting or crying, this guy don't, and it's so infuriating

we also do have Fucked Up Forests(TM) AND in multiple flavors!! you got the. "fucking annoying pixie forests" (<- direct quote from alisha) (i think theyre actually called sparkling forests). the whispering forest. the dead forest.

sparkling forest: as you can tell from alisha's. quaint description. that's where pixies live. they're very colorful and bubbly and. well. children's fantasy esque. do not be fooled because "the pixies are SO fucking annoying you think it'd be a nice place for a picnic but NO you turn away for ONE SECOND and your sandwich is GONE and theres a little pink PEST fuckin GIGGLING at you" (pulls alisha away from the keyboard). there are also creatures that are Very Cute but . Very Sharp. so uhhh be careful

whispering forest: one of my favorites tbh. it's like. Far Away from other societies? on the border of The Worlds- okay so imagine a venn diagram right. one circle is earth one circle is etheria one circle is asteria etc (those are our 3 main dimensions(?) so theyre the example). the whispering forest is like right on one of the the borders of etheria/asteria but technically in etheria but also like at a point nemo super far from Everything place (not an island but you get it right) (also i could go in more depth about the world connections if you want!!)

ANYWAY back to the forest. it's Dark and Spooky and...telepathic. it's where spirit elves & spirit foxes live (theres other wildlife but not like. sentient ones) who are both telepathic species. they speak different telepathic languages(?) though but can learn each other's. they can't really. speak out loud? their vocal chords and mouth structure just aren't made for that. the trees are also telepathic-y but in like a plant way so it's not like full thoughts its telepathic Vibes. and if you're not used to telepathy and you go there hearing the wind whistle through the trees combined with the Vibe Of Telepathy sounds very eerily like people whispering bc your brain is trying to make sense of what it's. Vibing. which is why it's called the whispering forest. and also why no one outside of it really goes in

the dead forest: it's. uh. dead. but alive? i don't think anyone truly remembers what happened to it but some sort of Magic Nuclear Fallout left everything dead-looking but just barely alive And Wants You Dead. as in look that tree's just sticks Oh Fuck Them Branches Are Coming For Me. there are even zombie/skeleton creatures held together mostly by magic that also Want To Get You. so.

oh also asteria is Mostly Forest (yknow how this world is Mostly Ocean?) and it's just. alien. like forests here can have big trees right? okay so like triple that. them trees BIG. and almost all the wildlife have white spots on them that can appear to glow in the dark (to human eyes). the plants too can generate light for human eyes but the normal light sources (sun, fire) generate light that humans can't pick up or generate very very little. so humans and (moon) elves evolved to see different light spectrums. which is pretty cool

hmm what other fucked up biomes do we have. well there's living islands. they're actually Creatures that float along and like. yknow how some turtles and stuff grow moss on their back? that but so big that it's like a whole ass island. not sure if that really counts as a biome? thankfully they're not usually predatory but if you hurt it. well. earthquake + raising sharp spines. it will not go well. so usually just leave them alone just in case

those are off the top of my head that aren't like. Earth Biomes But With Fantasy Creatures. ig weird shit also happens where the world borders are thin/collide but i wouldn't really count that as a biome.

It's been about two nights since the incident at the coffee shop, and you haven't really put much thought into the aftermath of what you did. You probably broke the law assaulting a seadweller since they're supposed to be royalty, and you're the bottom of the barrel on the spectrum. However, that's not a concern right now. You're not going back to that cafe, and you're definitely not going to see him again, so why dwell on it?

You're on your bed with a bag of hivemaid jerky listening to troll Pandora Radio as you log into trollian. It's been a month since you heard from Darius, and you're hoping he's online so you can message him for the millionth time. He probably won't answer, but you still want to try. After all, he hasn't blocked you yet, so there's still hope.

However, tonight he's not online, much to your disappointment. With a sigh, you prepare to log out when something catches your eye. You see Thiomi sign into trollian, and before you even get the chance to blink, a message window opens with her contacting you.

Thinking back on it, he never threatened you or even called you a single name. He was really fucking annoyed and mad at you, but technically you showed aggression first.

That means he's at least listening when you try to contact him. You've been giving him updates on how your sobriety is going and the progress you're making in addition to apologizing and begging him to talk to you.

Kalos "Gills" Kweeny

since mighty med has a lot of like. parodies of real world superheroes for characters, i decided to make Kalos a parody of Lois Lane. but like. very erratic and weird

i also based a lot of his mannerisms on ferrets/weasels! he moves with his head and like, swivels? alot .

would be technically considered a superhero, based on the fact He Does Have Powers, but hes more like ambrose, where he isnt in the fight and such.

since theres a superhero news network, i think theres probably superhero journalists and whatever. hes like a field reporter.

i think in canon, he'd be introduced around evil skylar arc. someone leaked there being a mole in mighty med and hes there to investigate.

he's called "gills" because of his powers, he has fish gills on his upper waist. he has a lot of fish traits (sharpened teeth, webbed hands and feet, beady lil eyes, smells weird). he doesnt share this info with a lot of people because he thinks its a little weird. people know he has powers, just not what they are. some larger superheroes know

he doesnt have any romantic/sexual preference. however, he does feel very little on each, putting him on the aroace spectrum.

he hasnt really talked with the mm trio that much, mostly in passing. hes talked with kaz the most, since he offers up his pov on anything in mighty med to be on TV. also friends with tecton and does a lot of personal interviews with him (a driving force for oliver to be on TV as well)

AAA TY FOR ADDING MY TAGS TO UR POST!! (i wasnt sure how to reply so i thought sending an ask would be better than reblogging the chonker post lol) honestly this whole topic of immortality shifting a characters morals is something ive been thinking about a lot recently (even a few months back when i was getting more into vampires/dracula), bc if immortality was possible it would completely warp someones sense and beliefs!! theres a reason theres a trope in some immortal characters “going mad” or becoming complete psychopaths bc of all those amazing reasons and topics you mentioned! its so lovely though to witness and see dream TRY to change throughout his story even if he technically doesnt have to since no one can really hold him responsible for his actions

That is a really interesting angle to approach the story from! And yeah, it seems frustrating why Dream would be so set in his ways, until you consider exactly how not just immortality, but having that immortality *from your birth* (which is simultaneous with the birth of the universe itself) would probably affect your mindset and other people's ability to call you out on your BS. It could be argued that the fact he might even attempt to change is a sign that Dream falls on the "asshole, but not 100% a dick" side of the morality spectrum. There's good in him somewhere, even if even he isn't conscious of it.

And , in the past, I've read fandom metas about how Hob Gadling subverts a lot of tropes about "immortality madness", but lately I've been reconsidering that about him. Because yeah, sure, he does seem to be a lot more normal of a dude than the usual instances of "uplifted humans", but committing to self-serving absolute mediocrity century after century is arguably its own kind of madness. Like he is COMMITTED to being THE average white guy across time and space. "Better" is very much a relative term.

Speaking of "immortality madness"... I'd really like to know more about Mad Hettie. Is she mad because she's immortal, or immortal because she's mad?

yeeeeeaaaahhhhh.......... :/

the more time and space I have from actually finishing, and just like ruminating on it all over and over..... My impressions are just growing colder and less forgiving. I'm gonna have to write them all out sometime here, it's just how I process things. But it'll be hard. Saying goodbye to my favourite little guy maybe of all time, is very hard. My shorthand thoughts are basically: as an action fantasy game, it's fantastic... it's cinematic and gorgeous and the narrative is powerfully emotionally motivated, and I'm certain someone that has no DA knowledge can leave it feeling like it was a great piece of art; as an RPG, it's quite middling....it's got a decent character creator with 6 technically different bgs but it really isn't much more than flavour imo, and ultimately everything is either a binary choice or no real choice at all (companion quests have two paths, the ending itself is one flavour, though I will give credit for the suicide mission elements that do actually add a bit of variability, but dialogue options are often three ways of saying the same thing slightly different)...it's not bad, it's serviceable...it can be called a role playing game, in a very specific way.....but it is not an rpg robust and full of choice; as a dragon age game, it's not very good....the amount of auto dialogue was giving me ME3 flashbacks in a very bad way, bc at least Shepard was always a less dimensional (on OUR part, the player) character.....but as predicted, rook is even less your own than Inquisitor, and even more basic...you find your character very often just...saying shit, and it's like "oh no, the bad guy is bad! But don't give up team we are the good guys and we can persevere. *Beat* also I can't cook ha ha ha" 😬 and the lore was ....odd.... some things are like, glaringly bad (blight effects...) and others, most actually, are cases of just....deciding that it didn't matter...and for me personally the Big Lore Reveals (that I assume any longtime solas enjoyer like myself already all knew lol) were very Telling Me The Story you know? I found the writing this time to be rather..."accessible" is the word I am thinking of but when I say it in this case I mean it as like, commercially accessible. like....marvel/Disney, ya know... we are all On the Hero Spectrum and we basically only talk about Pulling through!!! Because heroes don't give up! We have each other!!! We'll never turn into those EVIL people! ...idk. idk. antagonists from main and side missions often felt flat, Pure Evil redshirt mobs....and the obvious, the lack of respect for the world so far....we see/hear nothing of any dao/daa companions or major players besides Morrigan, who isn't there bc shes morrigan :/ theres one DA2 cameo, one dai cameo....that is it....DA to me means 1 meaningfully expressively different ways to roleplay the PC 2 a growing world state of different flavours that continues to reference itself as it expands 3 a fantasy setting where we get a new crew of companions to wander around with per title .... we get the last one sure, but I didn't really feel the first two so like I said I don't see it as a particularly successful dragon age game; and for ME most importantly, as a Solas game, game about Solas, marketed to me as a game of choice that still somehow resolves the tale meaningfully and satisfactorily no matter the path................ sorry. it's a fail for me. I'm sure I can go on and on and on about it but I need to just let it simmer for now.

Someone who isn't me can absolutely have a blast and come away thinking wow what a game. But she ain't me 😔 I didn't especially enjoy the combat, like I guessed, but it's fine, I can endure combat that I don't super think is fun....I think the slimming down on the RPG elements that are collecting and selling and min maxing and shit, potions loot etc, was nice and convenient. They COULD keep resource intensive stuff around but I personally don't care 🤷🏼‍♀️ and I really liked the simplicity and ease of just, look for a green pot to break lol. Played a rogue though and that fuckin arrow regen mechanic....not for me. Will have to see what ranged combat is for the rest. The music was the weakest of the series by far for me, characterless, very general (not always unique location/character specific pieces....), why is there synth to begin with but definitely why is there so much of it lmao... Biggest compliments I can give are the cinematics and environmentals and lighting, looked even more beautiful than inquisition. Though I've been experiencing a textural bug with white dots all over mostly hair and sometimes floors.... driving me insane. It changes person to person but there are a few VAs that were particularly Cartoon voicing and I don't really enjoy that, so I can't just wholesale compliment the voice talent.... But in general the main cast is very well played. And GDL, for me, is literally carrying this title on his Welsh shoulders. The ghil moments we get are also actually pretty fire

But yeah. Idk. I knew there was basically no way for this game to satisfy me, but I was so hopeful bc the Solas enjoyers in the dev team have been hyping it so much as such a great conclusion to his tale........... Makes it feel worse in a way. In a couple cases I at least genuinely believe the person just likes stories that end this way. And that's fine. But man. Man..... I really just. Wanted something else...I finished 11am, starting the climax and final point of no return at 5am already exhausted but so eager to finish, after waking up at like 2pm on election day and just playing through the evening. Woke up 6pm later on, of course my first thoughts are of this new game, the new ending I'm left with, time has passed I slept and I'm thinking more about what happened, and then I hear the news get turned on and then there's election results playing. So that was my experience ending this. I suffered in the fake world, went to sleep, then woke up to suffer in the real world and I can't use the fake world to escape for fun... It unfortunately colours the whole thing in an even worse light for me 😔 I'm just feeling emotionally drained. And I really wish. Here are my thoughts on the genshin outfits. It is what I typed up on my twitter with some added stuff I wanted to say but didn't have the space to, bc threads are hard.

Its only being fully enforced within China, which I kinda expected sooner or later, but it's still kinda disappointing that people's reactions are just "So what about future sexy outfits?? Will they now be censored??" Like? What do you mean now be censored? They're not even out. If Mihoyo was really so reliant on fanservice outfits then I doubt it'd actually be as interesting of a game as it is, no need to think they cant work within censorship. You can't even be aware of the fact that this is like a minor thing within the world of ccp and that it could become a bigger problem to other portions of gameplay or story telling in the future. You just see the desexualization censorship and think "But what about future sexy?" And the changes are actually nice, mihoyo is definitely trying their best to go about the changes to make it as pleasing and character fitting as possible. It will be disappointing when a character that actually has a sense of sexual enpowerment ever comes along because she likely won't be able to actually feel sexually empowered. It unfortunately happens that all of this, all the unsexy changes, also fits what a lot of female players have been asking for within the spectrum of "gaze" and is being done by the enforcement of censorship.

It's a bittersweet kinda change, knowing that there were some views of a portion of the player base finally getting recognized but it had to happen under the circumstances of a developer being politically censored to make over extensive changes. Amber's changes are practically nonexistent meaning it was probably enforced because of technicalities and Mona's feels a bit strange in general where she's wearing like a short body suit rather than the sheer tights, which also feels like it's almost more of technicality enforcement as well. But in between that is obvious updates to the models which are needed as well, there are more details and the designers are definitely trying to keep an interesting design within the limits they're being forced to hold.

And it is totally okay to say you appreciate the outfit changes when coming from a view outside China. You're speaking as someone who wanted the change not because of the purity of a political and societal image, but as someone who has seen plenty of oversexualized characters in video games and just wants a few less. I know people were so half and half on rosaria when she was released, where people didn't like the fishnets or that she didn't really look like she had anything to do with the church, and then the other side pointed out how it actually fit her abandonment or rebellion of the church so that was point. But I feel the middle ground found in the redesign is actually quite nice. It's more obvious she's still technically a nun, but she has her flair with a split skirt and thigh high boots, she is a rebel with a cause. And Jean's is fair as well, it fits well with attire of other guild masters and personally gives her kinda a "hot lady in a suit" vibe.

If changes come for male characters also, I won't be surprised. It's there that I have to make sure people understand on both sides why the censorship is much more broad then censoring sexy or graphic content. China recently had some laws regarding "feminine male characters" to which I'm sure could be enforced in the future on Venti. Theres much more to these changes than "no more future sexy?" or "Less male gaze" mentalities, it could very literally affect some of the things that make genshin so inviting to many people or make it such a big step forward in video game development.

Overall I hope that it doesn't become something for mihoyo that is breaking thier back. In thier apology to cn server players, it was really obvious they were disappointed in having to make the changes, and I'm sure in some part because they were breaking new ground for Chinese developers. Even if they were breaking it really lightly. If the enforcement gets even worse, in that it quite literally effects story, I'm sure there will be many people who just give up rather than try to give the support mihoyo and other Chinese developers need. There may not be much we can do outside of China, without people in China speaking up for change, but if it ever happens please remember to support them in the pursuit against censorship, not just in video games but in the many aspects of life.

Luz going feral hcs?

Or just beastar AU hcs in general?

Luz wouldn't really go feral per say. Yes she's a omnivore technically speaking but mostly eats fruit and plants and only rarely has a bug or a fish to be healthy, she doesn't enjoy the taste all that much. so she wouldn't really go feral, doesn't get very agitated at the smell of meat but isn't revolted by it like most other herbivores, pretty much just neutral to it.

as for headcanons;

Hunter and Amity are both quite protective of Luz and it took them a little bit before they realized they were technically on the same side. Amity goes out of her way to try and be as non-threatening as possible and break away from how her parents raised her and the twins and just. be a non-threatening carnivore bc she still worries about freaking out Luz or her new friends and only going feral when a predator messes with them. Hunter? Hunter don't give a shit. he was never once taught in a way to look meeker or sweeter to herbivores and thus just. acts like a dude who was pretty messed up and also doesn't quite realize or care that hes generally very threatening. he has no problem growling and baring teeth at minor annoyances because thats just how a wolf is, they use body language to communicate and theres a big difference between his "god your so annoying please shut up" growl and his "okay time to rip someones THROAT OUT" growl. Luz is desensitized to it at this point and has zero fear at Hunter's barking, growling, howling, and otherwise flashing claws and teeth. so. Hunter and Amity don't exactly get along too well with Amity seeing Hunter as a carelessly dangerous delinquent who could seriously accidentally hurt someone and Hunter seeing Amity as an overly cautious pushover who believes Luz couldn't handle herself in any rocky situation. this is cat on dog violence over here.

pretty much every carnivore Luz has met has tried to eat her at least once. it doesn't bother her too much anymore because Thats Just Life I Guess and I use "almost eat" in a wide spectrum which ranges from 'eda went feral and literally almost ate her whole and it was kinda traumatic' to 'boscha contemplated eating her for a few minutes while they were talking but amity was hovering ominously in the background so nothing happened.' Hunter had a moment when he was half-starved and dealing with his care for Luz, mixed with his protectiveness, and fierce nature, all combining after he was having a Very Not Good Time and while clinging to her protectively was This Close to eating her and he has no idea if Luz knew or not and it very much haunts him, could go on a lot about that. Amity also almost did it for a few seconds when she and Luz were chilling and Luz was being very careless and thought the trick of sticking ones head in a lions mouth was cool as hell and just Did That (with permission) and Amity had an thought in that moment of "i could just close my mouth right now" which didnt help with the fact its a Thing in beastars that some carnivores literally cannot tell the difference between wanting to kill or love a herbivore. Amity ended the thought in like 7 seconds but she still feels very weird that she even Thought about it and every time a similar intrusive thought appears she wallows in misery for like an hour

it took Eda a good few moments before she remembered why Luz having a crush on a giant predator would be a problem since shes, you know, mainly a prey species and could be crushed like a grape. Luz at first thought this was just because Eda was careless and forgot normal things sometimes but then, of course, she met Raine. the fruit bat who had known Eda since they were kids and neither of them saw a problem that Eda is a near complete carnivore hybrid and Raine being pure herbivore. nobody ever really gave them side-eyes about it since most of them were always focused on Eda being a hybrid, and bats are most often associated with bug-eaters or blood suckers. so ofc Eda knows how dangerous she can be to herbivores but hearing little ol' Luz having a crush on a predator? eh, same situation, different perspectives to her, really.

speaking of Raine! love them, got some stuff to say. since they're a bat, they would definitely have a good ear for things like music and the like, so it wouldn't be too uncommon to see a bat in a music career, though very unlikely something loud like drums or trumpets since that would usually be too much for their sensitive ears. but heres the fun part: nearly all fruit bats don't use echolocation! they have no need for it and physically cannot produce the sounds needed for it. except for the egyptian fruit bat. those guys actually use echolocation to communicate with others rather than catch prey. so surprise! Raine is an egyptian fruit bat, which can be kind of lonely when only your own specific sub species understands what you're saying in your own specialized language, some regions of egyptian fruit bats even have their own dialects! Raine, of course, taught all of what they knew to Eda. Eda can't exactly replicate it all that well, but it still gave the two their own 'secret' language when they were kids, and you bet neither of them ever really forgot it.

okay so somebody asked me to rank the green lanterns a couple days ago and i just did it based on the general Vibes i got off each one because i don't know enough about the lanterns and now i want to hear from an expert SO: RANK EACH OF THE GREEN LANTERNS (the human ones but if you want to include others go crazy) FROM NOT-SO-BEST TO BEST AND EXPLAIN WHY

OKAY SO, first off, i love you. you should know that. second off, there’s good and bad sides to all four human green lanterns and really this is just personal preference, and 3/4 of these are subject to change at some point, but this is where we stand as of right now:

4. Guy Gardner

first off, he was Hal’s case worker in Emerald Dawn II (1991), because Hal got in trouble for drunk driving and got sentenced to a maximum security prison for 90 days to be used as an example. And I just, I don’t like this plot in Hal’s life, it doesn’t make a ton of sense with his character or his profession (it would literally end a pilot’s career.) anyway, enough about Hal Jordan because I’m supposed to be talking about Guy here. Guy’s trying to help Hal out which, gets him points in my book, but he also ends up like hating Hal at the end of this arc and it’s just like, I’m sorry, that’s unoriginal, pls try harder. 

I also don’t understand this whole Vuldarian DNA plot that’s a thing with him, but his time owning a bar is cool. I just, I haven’t read a ton of his comics and i haven’t gotten attached to him yet, so that’s that. He’s in 4th, sorry Guy. Better luck next time. 

3. Kyle Rayner

Kyle gets third place for two reasons: he has some pretty great interactions with Hal, with some key points of believing in Hal when he needs it the most (and that panel with the stacked rings and Hal taking Kyle flying. That panel gives me life for reasons I can’t fully put into words.), and his girlfriend was literally murdered and stuffed into a fridge. I have to respect the trauma. 

Reasons I don’t like Kyle: you know how in middle school there was always that kid who would show off in gym class? or like your favorite teacher would pick some new kid to champion and you just kinda... hated them on instinct? Kyle’s an artist, but he has that vibe. He’s the kid in school that suddenly everyone has decided is the Best and it’s annoying. I get it, he’s meant to be like the “best green lantern,” the one to restore the corps when Hal and Parallax tore through it and then he’s a white lantern. I just... idk, he’s nice, he’s cute. I want to read more about when he was teamed up with Jason and some people have made it so that Hal has become his bother father figure which is also adorable, it’s just instinct to not make him my favorite. I’ve already done the whole phase of liking the ‘Chosen One,’ I don’t need to go back to my Harry Potter phase. idk, please universe don’t hate me for this.

2. John Stewart

okay, I have mad respect for John Stewart. It’s also instinctual. He’s the brains of the human Green Lantern operation. No, like, literally. If the four of them have one collective brain cell, John has it at least 89% of the time. He’s an architect and a former Marine, he punched Hal in the face in a bar before they were both Green Lanterns, which is hilarious because as far as I’m aware, it’s never touched on as being something either of them remembers. Kudos for not holding onto that rage, John. Hal has something to learn from you. 

There’s also an interesting change in his way of thinking from when he was a Marine to his duty as a Green Lantern, and I like that growth even if it’s not always acknowledged. There is a bit during the Color Spectrum War arc where they go over his guilt at the destruction of a world, and it felt remarkably deep for a DC comic, even if it was technically part of a Hal series. He’s just one of those guys that you can’t help but respect because he seems to have all of his shit in one basket, and it’s a good counterbalance.

1. Hal Jordan

you knew this was coming. if you didn’t, then you need to go look back at what my username is and think for a while. I love Hal Jordan almost more than life itself and it might be because of how well i can relate to this man. he is the most cocky, depressed, stubborn piece of shit in the galaxy, and I LOVE HIM. okay, like, there are so many different arcs about Hal and I know people have a tendency to not like him because like he’s the modern OG and he can be a piece of shit, and like, he was the bad guy but he came back from it and I just want to say: my dudes, that’s the POINT.

Hal has flat out stated that HE doesn’t even like himself, and you think that you as a reader are supposed to like him all the time? The man's life is rife with trauma, okay. Not everything he does is going to make perfect sense if you’re not paying attention and it’s just like. Honestly I can’t explain it all. Hal runs on spite and coffee and the list of people he lives FOR is very short, but the list of people he lives IN SPITE OF is very long. 

The dude runs with his gut constantly because that’s what keeps him alive. Even Sinestro has pointed out that HAL DOESN’T MAKE SENSE. He acts on instinct, he doesn’t plan out a shitload of battle strategies, and that’s how Hal manages to keep besting these people over and over. 

Also just, he’s sad boy. He wants to protect people, even if it means staying away from them. He’s willing to take the blame and appear to go rogue MULTIPLE TIMES for things he believes in and to find the root of the problem and it’s just like... you really think a guy that was happy-go-lucky and didn’t sit awake at night because of how prominent his failings are in his mind would be willing to do that? you’re wrong. sorry. you don’t designate yourself as public enemy number one AFTER ALREADY FIGHTING TO COME BACK FROM THAT ONCE if you don’t have a part of your brain saying you deserve it.

ALSO HIS GRIEF FOR COAST CITY WAS JUSTIFIED AND THERES A LONG LIST OF PEOPLE THAT COULD HAVE HELPED PREVENT HAL FROM BECOMING/SUCCUMBING TO PARALLAX AND A LOT OF THEM ARE ON THE JUSTICE LEAGUE OR TINY ANCIENT BLUE SMURFS.

What is the most common intersexist thing that you most frequently encounter that you wish perisex people wouldn’t have done that probably is overlooked? I’m trying to learn and I am doing my reasearch obviously but I wanted to ask actual intersex person and I don’t know anyone intersex (or at least that I know of) irl.

oh gosh there’s like so many things i can’t just choose one but like. 

- People making jokes about hermaphrodites or shemales or like jokes that use andorgyny and ambigious genitalia as a punch line

- people saying that there are only two sexes and refusing to listen to or accept that biological sex is a spectrum and a construct 

- Bullying people for the signs of their intersex variations stuff like body hair or breast growth or like any of those things. i get this SO Much irl and people are REALLY cruel and stay stuff stigmatizing intersex traits

- Saying that intersex people can’t be cis or trans (people assuming that intersex people don’t have the ability to self determine gender and that we can never actually be a “real” gender) People do this all the fucking time, saying that we’re not “real” women or men or any gender or saying that being intersex makes us lesser

- making jokes about intersex genitalia like micropenis jokes 

-Obviously stuff like intersex genital mutilation is a huge problem so that’s not really overlooked but im kind of just listing out intersexist stuff now and i dont want to leave that out 

-Intersex medical abuse beyond genital mutilation-we face so much abuse from doctors 

-People saying that intersex people are biologically more likely to be criminals because of that one fucking study (i know this sounds weird but this is a sterotype that i encounter irl ALL the time) 

-Comparing intersex people to aliens, comparing intersex people to animals

- Saying that all intersex people are inherently trans

-Saying that intersex people shouldn’t have children and that it’s good we’re all infertile (we aren’t all infertile. that’s a fucking lie) 

-  Saing that theres such a thing as an AMAB or AFAB body and using AGAB terms to talk about bodies and like childhood experiences

- Saying that intersex is a disorder or a defect, and saying that all intersex people are just male and female. (you’ll see intersex radfems and TERFs saying this all the time and one of the things they claim is that intersex isn’t a third sex which like. that’s technically true in that intersex is a term for a whole collection of variations and biological sex is a spectrum and a construct so intersex isn’t like a coherent third sex but its ABSOLUTELY not true that intersex is just male or female but disordered) 

- People using intersex people as props in arguments to like stick it to transphobes and prove that there’s more than two genders (obviously there are more than two genders that’s not what im bothered by here) but like people only using intersex people when it’s convient and spreading misinfo and talking about us in clinical terms and never actually supporting intersex issues 

-Saying that you “want to be intersex” or “want an intersex body” (i see this in trans circles a lot 

-Fetshizing and weirdly sexualizing intersex bodies (im thinking about stuff like futanari)

JESUS CHRIST THAT WAS A TRIP, I’ll try to separate this post into different points because wow theres a lot I have to say :0

FIRST OFF CAN WE TALK ABOUT THE chefs kiss REPRESENTATION IN THIS??? A CHARACTER OF COLOUR (technically uncanny was an android and not a person but its still cool to see), AN ADULT LESBIAN COUPLE PORTRAYED IN A WAY THAT TREATS IT AS A NORMAL AND HEALTHY RELATIONSHIP, THE EAGLE MIRACULOUS FOUND ITS WAY BACK TO A NATIVE, THE HOLDER OF THE MIRACULOUS BOX IS A NATIVE, THE AMERICAN MIRACULOUS ARE ALL NATIVE CENTRIC WHICH I _ADORE _I’m so proud of this show wow

SECOND MARI CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT???? I thought I’d never live to see the day. based off the trailer I was really worried the show would continue to promote Maris stalker ass behaviour and make her borderline unwatchable but I was pleasantly surprised with how they treated her. For the most part she seemed to be determined to get over Adrien and recognised how unhealthy her obsession over him is. Of course things aren’t fully perfect yet what with the airplane scene but I feel like we’ve made genuine strides. aLSO I loved Maris friend group also pointing out the obsession and encouraging Mari to improve, ESPECIALLY Nino and especially Alya, from her first scenes, rather than focusing on two far ends of a spectrum Alya encouraged Marinette to come to terms with how stalkerish she is, achieve a healthy mindset with Adrien and then further their relationship. Once again, the scene where her, Nino, Uncanny and Sparrow (I cant remember their civilian sames sorry :|) tried to trick the two to get together set them back by a bit, I realize their goals and intentions were not bad though. 

OKAY AND MAY WE PLEASE TALK ABOUT CHAT NOIR AND LADYBUGS RELATIONSHIP IN THIS, there’s so much to cover I dont know where to start T_T. In the past this show has put me through some emotions but NEVER as strongly as this special did. I on god cried and if you know me in real life you’ll know I rarely ever cry, especially at shows and such. I feel like Adriens pressure to not let Ladybug down was really portrayed well, considering he’s willing to relinquish chat noir, his only escape from his fathers tight grip on his entire life, if he thinks it’ll help ladybug even a little. plus I’m really glad Adrien got the chance to hear in a heartfelt moment that ladybug genuinely cares and values him as a partner, in the past I feel like thats always been said but only now did it feel so genuine, similar to the contrast of chat noirs playful flirting versus him genuinely caring and loving ladybug. I was genuinely worried before that Chats feeling of being a less valuable member of their duo (which he kinda is fuck you Astruc, they’re entire point is that they balance each other perfectly so write it that way) would grow and he’d give up chat noir. Alsoo, I feel like their argument did a fantastic job of portraying how no ones relationship will ever always be smooth sailing but just because of that it doesn’t mean the relationship isn’t incredibly strong and both members still care for eachother.

ALSOO MORE TALKING ABOUT RELATIONSHIPS BUT THIS TIME ITS LUKADRIGAMINETTE BECAUSE HOLY SHIT I know they were only in the first 15 minutes of the special but wOW. Kagami kissed Adrien (or it looked like on the lips to me), which makes the entire forcing Adrien and Mari together kinda yikes on Alya and Ninos part. Mari was able to kiss Luka on the cheek (I audibly yelled at 11:30 pm whoops) which shows that she is capable of having a healthy love interest in someone without literally stalking them. Minor point but I wanted to add that I wasn’t super happy with Kagami this special. I’ve loved her in the more recent episodes because of how she was treated more as a normal person with strict parents than a slightly racist fencing robot who only cares about honour but for the little bit that she was in this ep she seemed to have gone back to the cold robot we saw when she was first introduced. OOH ALSO Luka and Kagami were both in paris while everyone was gone which if you ask me is impeccable proof that they’re canon no I’m not grasping at tiny straws in pain shut up. 

Now for the probably final topic, the amount of adrienette content we got in this special is giving me a will to live holy shit, on top of Mari trying to get character development, Adrien was also able to seemingly recognise Marinette more in general. Again, the airplane scene did set us back a bit but when they were talking while looking at the sunset it showed how much potential they really have as a couple. Alsoooo I loved how Mari was finally able to get credit for helping people. in the past almost everything nice she’s tried to do has resulted in akumas or misunderstandings (ie: reverser, her scarf for adrien, partly animaestro, almost every other episode..) but in the special not only was she able to get Adrien to go to New York (I know she technically didn’t but this is more of a direct character analysis than overarching plot and for the sake of simplicity everyone thinks it’s cause of her that Adrien could go.) but she had Adrien directly thank and acknowledge her for allowing him to go. they also made absolute leaps and bounds in terms of talking to one another. of course we couldn’t see as much in the end but it’s clear Marinette is slowly but surely making her way to maintaining a steady conversation with Adrien without being creepy or stalkerish and Adrien is slowly beginning to see Marinette as a viable partner. (also you cannot tell me this special wasn’t entirely Adrien being in love with mari without realizing). as I mentioned in the previous paragraph though I am concerned with if it’s okay for this stuff to be happening what with what seems to be a steady relationship between Adrien and Kagami.

okay so ive never like actually wrote all this down and this is gonna be long and kinda rambly and inspired by many many hcs ive read, but i DO have some hcs for the troll species as a whole! so ive been trying to make sense of the troll life cycle and i realize that i couldnt do it because i was trying to think of them as insect people (cause of the grubs n stuff) and i shouldnt have been! so after that i let my brain run wild and i came up with this crazy shit. so the idea is that trolls, the mother grub, AND the lusii are all the same species! the lusii came first, and they were the first semi-intelligent life on the planet. they all telepathically communicate and are generally chill with each other like an avatar planet hivemind kinda thing. theres other lesser cratures as well that they prey on, so for the most part the lusii didnt eat each other. at first they all look mostly the same, but as time goes on and with different habitats they develop physical distinctions between blood colors. but, as populations rise the need for specialized workers rises too. the jadeblood lusii, being pretty much in the middle of the spectrum, evolve into a subspecies. already being vaguely insectoid moth things they form a hive system with many breeders and one queen (lets just say the biggest lusus became queen idk). they fill up their food reserves (much like honeypot ants), travel and breed with as many other lusii as they can, and then all go underground. after brooding for many sweeps they all produce the first troll eggs. now, heres where i go crazy. the eggs hatch into grub babies (.....grubbies) which are insectoid looking at first because of the mother grub. the blood color of the first group of troll grubs is entirely dependent on whatever lusii that mother grub bred with. all the mother grubs then take the grubbies above ground and travel to join the queen mother and her brood in her volcanic caverns. the other mother grubs then die, and the grubbies are left in the care of the queen. the heat of the caverns starts the pupation process, and after cocooning and liquifying they take a humanoid form with traits dependant on their lusus parent. after they got a little older mom kicked them out (except the jades, sorry) and they went to the surface. the lusii, upon seeing the trolls, recognize them as their spawn and the parental relationship starts. i like the hc that the lusii communicate with the trolls telepathically so we're going with that. when the trolls mature they return to the queen and provide her with the first slurry and the cycle begins! now, at this point, fuchsias dont exist yet. crazy, but i got a point. fuschias never had lusii (i think doc scratch created fefs lusus), so by this hc they were never made with the rest of the trolls! i think that fuchsias were first made by accident. the first fuchsia was made when the slurry for that sweep had a lot of violet and burgundy contributions. that, plus a cooler temperature in the caverns, created an entire new blood caste! the fuchsias had no lusus, so they were raised communally by the adult violets and the violet lusii. as the trolls advanced the fuchsia lifespan proved to be the longest so the first fuchsia empress, a violent warmonger, slowly took control of the whole planet and established the caste system. it kind of all went downhill from there. the trolls forgot their origins due to empire propaganda (cant let the other castes know that fuchsias were made by accident!) and the lusii became nothing more than custodians to the young trolls (and became dependent on trolls for food/habitat), and the queen mother and her daughters after her nothing more than grub factories. the only ones who know that fuchsias are technically mutants are the jades, which is why i hc that the dolorosa was so quick to go "hey lol fuck the empire!" and steal a baby and why kanaya and porrim dont really treat feferi and meenah with any special treatment just because theyre fuchsias. ((sorry for the bomb in ur ask box i just had to share this hc))

7. What is your favorite part of being transgender?

oooh thats a hard question to answer lol

i really really really love the sense of community that comes with being trans! i also really love the freedom that being trans offers, which sounds strange at first when you think of how trans people are treated in society, but i love the freedom to be able to explain who i am with other people who understand and who will accept me with open arms! i love seeing a trans flag and knowing theres others like me, others who have faced the worst society has to offer and keep going. i love our elders, who fought, who keep fighting. i love all trans people and i love being trans because it feels like home to me!

8. How would you explain your gender identity to others?

i still dont really know haha

i could get all technical and say that im somewhere under the nonbinary umbrella, a little bit agender, a little bit greygender, somewhat male aligned, parts that i dont even know about yet, etc. but the queer and trans/nonbinary labels fit me and i love them for it! also the flags are gorgeous, which is always a plus lol

34. What advice would you give to other trans people, or what message would you like to share with them?

(okay im super bad at advice so bear with me)

the best advice i can give to other trans people is to slow down.

being trans is fucking hard, and it becomes a lot harder when you feel pressured to come out, start hormones, get surgery, etc. and i want you to know that you dont have to make decisions like that immediately. although i realised i wasnt cis a few years ago, it took until a few weeks ago to realise that i might want to start t at some point but i dont want to at this point in my life, because its a big decision to make and im nowhere near ready for it.

i feel the same way about coming out. while incredibly drunk with a sober friend i told her about my name and pronouns and i regretted it the next day, not because i dont trust her, but because i didnt feel ready. theres people in my life i dont ever plan on coming out to because i simply dont want to. and thats okay

i feel like trans people can rush into their transitions in case people call them 'trenders' or whatever when the only person who should be concerned about how and when you transition is you! you decide when or if you tell people! you decide when or if you get hrt or surgery! its your body and your life and its okay to take your time to make decisions like this! youre gonna be okay, i promise <3

38. What is your sexual and romantic orientation, and what are your thoughts on it?

if youve been on my blog in the last month or so you might remember the little... crisis... i had about this where i had trouble letting go of the lesbian label. im very happy to announce that not long after that i let it go, and it didnt feel like i was betraying a part of myself anymore, and it actually helped me figure out my gender more so wahoo!

anyway, i usually describe myself as an arospec acespec queer.

i consider myself to be demiromantic and somewhere along the asexual spectrum that i cant figure out (idek if i am on there lol! joys of discovering yourself).

i use the queer label because every other sexuality label just does not fit, like at all. im attracted to people of all genders (i think 😬) but although ive used labels like pansexual in the past, now... just doesnt fit! so dont worry if thats happened to you, even if a label fits you definition-wise, if you dont like it - dont use it! i love love love the queer label, it makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside and thats why i use it!
