Note
A basket of assorted berries is left near the cave, marked for Psyche and her family. A psychic message is left for her attached to it. It is 'unsigned', but the culprit is obvious.
Hope you and your kith are finding your stay in Mt. Quena comfortable. I'm aware I'm not the most... welcoming of hosts. But you are welcome to stay as long as you wish.
These are the first fruits of the mountain's bounty this year. There's more than enough to go around. Help yourself.
The message hangs there in a pause of quiet, as if the gifter had debated on saying more. But it cuts off and then fizzles out completely, having been 'read' and fading into the ether.
🔮 Another day out, once again yielding little fruit for her efforts. There was hope this time around however- rumors of a certain region which more feminine Pokemon would look into, in the near future. For now however she would return to Mt. Quena, so as her chosen kin would not fret over her being gone for too long. That was the thing about family, one could only sequester themselves for so long, before said loved ones would become concerned for their well being. Twas a little different with Pokemon however, as typically in nature when one reached adulthood they would branch out into new territories and seemingly have little communication with the ones they grew up with eventually. She was certain Sundapple would fall into that line, now that Meowstic made her own place in world.
- When the thought of her adopted sister sprung to mind, Mewtwo could not help but sigh. It had been... difficult for the genetic Pokemon to accept that she truly flew the nest. She still woke up every morning half-expecting to see shiny Meowstic curled nearby, or already out in field so medicinal herbs or food might be gathered. Instead there was a vacant spot, longing for company. Legendary could still visit sister whenever heart longed to and she told herself countless times such a day would come. It was nature's way. So why did it feel so UNNATURAL to clone? Perhaps because time went by too fast; the growing dissonance was wholly a stranger to her? Or was this merely a result of one being abnormally born, such as she? These clouded thoughts turned to clear skies- sharp and true, once amethyst jewels espied the basket sitting in front of her usual landing space.
- It did not take even half a braincell for her to deduce who sent the gift. The familiar, psychic energy was obvious. Regardless, it was a little unexpected to receive such things from Stein. She made it clear to establish the rules to villagers whilst they resided in Mt. Quena. They would work for their keep and not take any of their food unless given. This was... hard for some particularly Snorlax, but with help from Skystripe and Shrubbery Psyche eventually found a way to make his habitual naps work in their favor. People could be extra dissuaded from going up to their hiding space if a giant Pocket Monster slept in their path.
- Despite these rules however, that did not prevent the village Pokemon from forming some relationship with Stein's clones along with Nanako. Skystripe entertained the young ones with tales of his youth. Mama Shrub plus the other healers, shared experiences and ideas of raising different Pokemon with Wigglytuff and Nidoqueen. The Pumpkaboo and Banette were practically teaching some clones how to frighten humans. Then perhaps the most shocking twist of all was Ophelia getting along with Pikatwo. Apparently duo forged a sort of friendship over the fact that they donned Pikachu's visage.
- There was a curious flick of purple tail, at the pause before message ceased to exist. It most certainly garnered some queries, but none that seemed relevant at the moment. What mattered was that this showed he was sparing a thought towards them. With any luck, the gift meant he viewed them in a more positive light then before. At this notion Mewtwo found herself smiling, subtle but genuine.
Tumblr media
- If Psyche did not know any better, she would think he was growing fond of them.
- Levitating the basket, she then took unexpected but not unwelcomed present inside. She was sure the villagers would appreciate it.

Clavis Remembers A Certain Day
🍦 rating: PG-13
🍦 genre: wholesome, family, crack
Clavis: True story, Jin. The events I’m about to share, unbelievable though they may seem, actually happened.
Jin: (raises stein to his mouth) Do tell.
Clavis: Tell I shall. (takes a thoughtful sip from his cup of juice)
Clavis: Flashback to 10 years ago. First day of university. Naturally I didn’t get a single wink the night before, but come morning and I had enough energy to get into a fistfight with the palace guards.
Clavis: I know this because I got into a fist-fight with the palace guards. But that’s a story for another day.
Jin: Now that’s a story I’d find hard to believe if I didn’t already know about the kind of guy you actually are.
Clavis: (taps the side of his nose while giving a knowing smile)
Clavis: Anywho, first day of university. I think to myself: "Big day for me, yeah? Let's go greet Chev―in a serious, no-bullshit way―before heading off." Still hated the guy, but I wanted to start the school-year off on a positive note, you know?
Jin: (mutters) Oh you poor fuck. Sleep-deprivation at its worst.
Clavis: So I get ready. Put on my fancy new cravat. New shoes. The whole works. Words do not exist for how excellent I looked. Minus the massive bags under my eyes.
Clavis: Afterwards I start strolling to Chev's room. Might as well be the one to wake him, I figured.
Clavis: Obviously that was my first mistake.
Clavis: Maybe second. The cravat slowly suffocated me over the course of the day.
Clavis: ...Maybe third, actually. Deciding to have a candid chat with Chev, that was probably the first mistake.
Jin: So what happened?
Clavis: Let me tell you what happened.
Clavis: (stands up and makes a dramatic gesture) Imagine a slightly-less-beautiful-than-now me―I know it's hard, but just try―looking absolutely the vision of a prince, walking innocently into his brother's room as a show of common courtesy before his first day of school.
Clavis: Now picture said-brother. Buried in his sheets, faint snore, appearing almost like a normal person.
Clavis: And little old me opens his mouth to say "Good morning"―
Clavis: (perfect imitation of Chevalier’s voice) Catch this.
Clavis: (normal voice, but slightly more boyish) Catch wha―
Clavis: (claps hands) WHACK!
Clavis: Pillow slams into my face, sends shockwaves to the tips of my toes and the toes of my unborn children. Hurls me back out through the open door and into the opposite wall.
Jin: Damn.
Jin: Super damn.
Clavis: (distant gaze) My only thought as my body slid from the impact crater was: "This is it. This is how I go."
Clavis: Bright light and everything.
Clavis: And then I start screaming.
Clavis: (as his younger self) You broke my nose, you bastard! Get out of bed right now. Fix my goddamn―
Clavis: But Chev's like:
Clavis: (sighing and rolling his eyes as Chevalier) ... Stop being dramatic. That was my softest pillow.  Now are you going to throw it back?
Clavis: (normal voice) Oh was I ready. Got to my feet and picked up that same pillow. Didn’t take my eyes off that fucker for a moment.
Clavis: (mimes preparing to throw a pillow, then suddenly drops both hands)
Clavis: ...Had my eyes on him the whole time. So how in the hell did I still get hit with another pillow?
Jin: (gets up to hug Clavis, reconsiders, spreads arms again, reconsiders and sits back down)
Clavis: (grim expression) Sent me flying right out the window, that one. Did you know I’m surprisingly aerodynamic?
Clavis: Anywho... (sits back down) that was the honestly the last time I ever tried being nice to that bastard.
Clavis: ......
Clavis: Jin.
Clavis: Is my voice coming to you from those breasts?
Jin: Just multitasking. Besides, that's awful rich coming from a guy telling childhood anecdotes to a pair of legs.
Clavis: Ha! Guilty as charged. (raises juice) To legs?
Jin: (grins back) To breasts.
What Clavis didn't realize, even as an adult, was that Chevalier had genuinely just wanted to have a pillow fight with his little brother.

Chemistry Ch. 2 - Franken Stein / Reader
Summary: Much to everyone's astonishment, you and Stein get along surprisingly well.
Warnings: None. Literally just fluffy nonsense.
Tumblr media
[Masterlist]
"Let me try again! One last time, please?"
"Sure..." Honestly, it's way too early for Stein to endure anyone's voice longer than the bare minimum - but on the other hand, it was quite entertaining to see you all delighted over something so trivial. "Go ahead."
You giggled like an overly excited child as you pressed Stein's hands together, emitting soulwaves through your palms with ease.
It was a rather pleasant sensation, he had to admit.
...but with such a happy look on your face, he didn't really feel like destroying your efforts just like that.
"Now try moving them apart!" The strings you had formed to stitch his palms together were feeble and easily torn apart...
"Very good" your partner praised with a proud smile on his face, acting as if it was hard to set himself free. "You certainly have potential."
Learning this kind of skill sure wasn't easy. In fact, Stein was the only person known to be capable of using his soulwaves in this unique way - until now.
"Do you want some coffee?" you hummed, disrupting his line of thought. "I think I've stressed you enough this early in the morning, so it's the last I can do."
"Yeah, that would be nice" he mumbled, head resting on the table of the teacher's lounge as he watched you operate the coffee machine. "And don't worry about it - I like having little side studies."
Stein couldn't help but using his soul perception, the initials on your soul catching his attention once again - and he began to wonder: Don't they say Soulmates share similar abilities?
"Say, Y/N, what was the property of your weapon again?"
"Electricity" you answered as you put down the mug in front of him, hearing a quiet 'thank you' in between his usual self soliloquies. "Why?"
"Oh, nevermind. Forget it."
Mistaking the brooding with his usual morning grumpiness, you didn't really put much thought into your partner's words. "We sure make a good team, right? At first glance, no one'd ever expect us to be so similar."
"We are not even remotely alike" he retorted, absentmindedly stirring his drink. "Far away from it, even."
"I object. We are compatible in the ways that count!" You ended the topic like that as you sat down next to him, busying yourself with preparing today's lessons.
Since Death's order a whole month had passed without further incidents, so there was plenty of time for the two of you to grow accustomed to one another.
At the beginning you admittedly were still a little hesistant and unsure to what extend you could trust your unusual new partner, but Stein really went out of his way to act welcoming.
While he could certainly be a pain in the ass and liked to annoy you more often than not, he was also reliant, funny, witty - and could even be quite charming if he felt like it.
However, sometimes it was hard to conceive whether the man was being genuine, or if he was just acting to give you a false sense of security.
Spirit, knowing him best, emphasized that even though Stein certainly had a more humane side towards certain people, he was emotionally immature and unable to control the different sides of his personality...
...and that he was in fact very talented when it came to playing along with what's considered 'normal' behavior - even if you rather wouldn't want to know what's going on behind the facade.
And while Stein himself was amazed that your constant presence didn't bug him in the slightest, something about it still wasn't sitting right with him.
The small possibility of you poor thing being his Soulmate, that is.
"You done there?" Stein leaned over to see the last few tests you were currently grading - way too late, obviously, since class started in not even twenty minutes. "I can help you with that, you know."
You had been obsessed with perfecting Stein's soulwave technique lately, and had wasted a lot of time on training those past few evenings instead of doing your actual work.
"Forget it!" you wouldn't even look up from the papers, feeling irritated that you could get distracted by his stare so easily. "I've screwed up myself, so I'll get it done myself. And also: Your handwriting is awful."
"Aww, you should hear yourself." Not that he doesn't know what it's like to rather drop dead than to accept someone's help, but your stubbornnes was almost endearing. "Death's hard-working little lapdog."
"You're one to talk, you freaky douchebag!" You punched Stein's stomach softly, a few sparks of your soulwaves disappearing into thin air as soon as they touched him...
...Soulmates are also unable to harm each other with their souls, he mused.
"We should take bets whether they start making out or get at each others's throat first." The source of that aggravating voice was Sid, entering the teacher's lounge together with the others who had been in the canteen during lunch break.
"Fair enough" Stein cackled, even though you were the opposite of amused. "Don't encourage them! And also: gross."
"Hey, I consider myself quite a catch." Seems like he's enjoying the subject as long as it get's on your nerves.
"Yeah, so does Spirit" you scoffed, hearing the man whine in the background before he proved you right as he started bothering one of the other female teachers.
Out of a whim, Stein put his arm around your shoulder, jokingly declaring "Besides: This is the woman that let me operate on her without a sedative. So she's not too bad either."
You blinked up at the man, taken aback by the sudden proximity before watching your wrist. The wound was almost nonexistent now, just as he had promised back then - and you couldn't help but feel grateful.
"So that's the only way to earn your respect?" Naigus spat bitterly, walking past the man without biding him another look. "Psycho."
Maria Naigus sure was the hardest colleague to deal with - at least ever since you had been assigned to Stein, that is...
...and that mix of disdain and pity whenever she looked at you was somehow hard to bear.
Moreso, it seemed like he always drew the focus on himself, so the others would leave you alone. "If you want to find out, you know the location of my laboratory."
"Haha, maybe." Stein himself seemed completely unfazed by the constant degrading. Well, he's probably used to be the centre of negative attention either way.
Naigus chose to ignore him, rather whispering some barely audible curses under her breath as she stormed outside the room again. Sid rushed after her after uttering a half-heartedly apology on behalf of his partner.
There was a while of uncomfortable silence until soon the remaining teachers would leave for their respective classes as well, and you finally felt like you could breathe freely again.
You should've been used to this kind of treatment by now, and if not you should hurry up and do so - because this is what it's like to be associated with Stein.
"Well that was uncalled for" you said, about whom of the two you weren't sure. "Why does she have such a great problem with you?"
"Who doesn't?" he shrugged, just to be sharply poked to the chest by you. "Me, for example."
"Yeah, that's right." You felt Stein's hand petting your head, smiling at you almost innocently. "Thanks for putting up with me, Y/N."
"Oh, I- uh...it's actually fun being around you, ya know? Never get's boring at least."
There was something about whenever the two of you touched that shot pleasant tingles through your whole system, no matter how desperately tried to contain this feeling...
...and little did you know that Stein felt just the same.
You gave it your best to avoid his intense gaze, willing to do anything to change the topic before he'd notice your nervosity - only then realizing that the clock showed five past 1pm. "We should go. Class has already started."
"In that case, how about we meet after work today?" he suggested, curiosity getting the better of him as he wondered if his theory might be correct after all. "To spar a little, I mean."
Your function at Death Academy was to lead some of the weapon exclusive classes, and others which focused way more on the practical usage of one's abilities than theoretical knowledge.
And many, many times you had asked Stein to accompany you for a demonstration, which he had always politely declined. In fact, until now he had completely avoided to use your weapon form at all.
So it was no wonder his offer made you a little suspecting.
"I thought there's no need for that, since you're such a great Meister and all?" Still jittery beyond belief, you shuffled away from the man to become clear-headed again.
"It could help us getting used to each other's fighting style, though." As if a goddamn genius like him only now noticed this.
There just had to be a superior motive to his idea, yet you couldn't put your finger on what it was.
"Y/N?" Stein waved a hand in front of your face at your lack of answer. "So, what do you say?"
"Okay, okay!" You threw your hands into the air, gaining a cheeky smirk of your partner. "Fine by me. 4pm at your laboratory?"
"Can't wait, my dear."
___
The last hours of school went by incredibly fast - that's probably what enjoying your job must be like...
...and now for the rather unpleasant part.
"I honestly have no idea what awaits me at a place someone like you calls 'home'" you teased as Stein escorted you to his laboratory.
"I always found uncertainty eery exciting, don't you?"That was a lie, and you knew it. As intrigued as he was by so many things, the constant ambiguity of his own self sure had to be exhausting, if not deeply frustrating.
You were correct of course, since right now Stein was concerned for your wellbeing - or rather the consequences if you'd find out to be Soulmates after all.
As much as it being true would be a blessing for himself, it would also be a curse for you on the other end.
Staying blissfully unaware would be better than a life-long sentence written in stone, right?
But hey, in the end the two of you had to find out eventually - even if the idea itself didn't even cross your oblivious mind yet.
"...why am I not surprised" you taunted as you saw the huge patchwork building at the horizon. "You live pretty far away from...everything, don't you think?"
"I like to have my peace and quiet while working" he shrugged it off, mutely adding "and like this no one can hear the screams."
Seems lonely, you thought.
"At least we can go all out here!" Feeling a rush of motivation and adrenaline flowing through you, you stretched a little before you grabbed his wrist. "Ready?"
"Ready when you are."
In an instant, you had transformed right into Stein's hands, feeling the massive power radiating off of him now flowing through you.
And that you were supposed to channel and amplify?!
"Don't worry, I can control the output" your partner reassured you, as if able to hear your thoughts. "Also, you're a Death Scythe - and a very competent one at that. With you I shouldn't need to hold back."
"Huh, how considerate. I'll go easy on you the first time as well!" you cheered, knowing that the burden of wielding a weapon as powerful as yourself had it's limits - even for someone like him.
And indeed, there was no need to get used to each other, for the instant connection between the two of you felt as natural as nothing you had ever before experienced.
"This is incredible! Don't you think so too, Y/N?" Stein was laughing almost manically as he manoeuvred your weapon with ease, leaving you a little uneasy. "Y-Yeah...but please don't overdo it, okay?"
"Soul resonance?" Both of you suggested in unison, and in a matter of seconds you were ready for the blow. It was amazing, what sheer power you were capable to synthesize together.
Something like this shouldn't even be possible, unless...
"Shit!" The shockwave of energy following your attack could most likely even be heared far away back in the city...
...and right there, at Death Academy, two spectators had witnessed your little performance as well.
The two of you were unable to see it with your own eyes, but anyone with soul perception could've seen the initials on your respective souls brightly lighting up.
"Master Death..." Spirit was left at loss for words by the sight they both observed through Death's mirror. "I've never seen a soul resonance like this."
"Yeah, a Death Scythe in combination with the strongest Meister is immensely powerful for itself, as you already know..." Death explained calmly as the scene unfolded in front of him, "But what dimensions would their potential reach if at the same time, they'd happen to be soulmates as well?"
"How most unfortunate...or not? It could be beneficial, yet also unpredictable..." Seems like not even Death had planned for this outcome, yet an overwhelmed Spirit still felt the need to defend his former partner for some reason. "We won't know how this ends until we see it with our own eyes."
"Either way, what an incredible twist of events. I'll need you to keep an eye on those two."
"Stein!" you exclaimed as he had fallen over due to the recoil, transforming yourself back. "Are you alright?!"
"Heh, worried for me I see?" he gave you that shameless grin again, to which you'd simply pout. "Can you be serious for once? We've almost wrecked your house."
"I think it went pretty decently for the first time" he evaluated contently, looking at all the havoc the two of you wreaked in his front lawn.
"Strange man, strange hobbies, strange views..." You sighed, offering him a hand and almost losing balance yourself as you pulled the tall man up.
"I could get used to this" Stein stated quite jubilant, dwelling in the afterwaves of your soul. Time sure ran fast when together, both of you realized as you saw the moon raise over a purple sky. "Should I accompany you home?"
"No, actually-" you stopped yourself halfway through the sentence, biting your lip as you realized how stupid the idea might sound...
...just to give in to this whim anyways. "I-I'm exhausted. Do you think I could stay the night?"
"Sure, suit yourself." This time it was you supportingly putting your arm around Stein, whose back hurt a little more than he was willing to admit. "But don't complain if you get dissected."
"As long as I wake up again, why not?" you snickered and your partner couldn't help but break out in laughter as well. Maybe it would be nice to have some company for a change - if it's you at least.
"No, seriously: I trust you with my life, Stein."
Already?
"Oh, I'm honored - but I don't think I deserve that praise yet" he dismissed the compliment, yet you wouldn't give in. "Then you better hurry up and prove yourself."
Impossible, he thought. Someone as naive as yourself can't possibly be his Soulmate...
...otherwise this story would have the complete opposite of a happy ending.

⌚ Steins;Gate Review! 🥼
Hello! Welcome back to a new anime review! Today, I'll be reviewing one of the most well-known and praised anime of all time, the one and only Steins;Gate!
Tumblr media
It's unlikely you've never heard of Steins;Gate, be it as an anime or visual novel. Indeed, it is one of the most famous names in both fields, and has been for a little over a decade now.
Steins;Gate is a psychological/drama anime that deals with time travel. It aired in 2011 and the original series has 24 episodes. It also has an alternative version, called Steins;Gate 0, that aired in 2018, which has 23 episodes. Finally, it also has a movie.
Before anything, I'd like to state that I watched this anime in chronological order and not release order. It was recommended by most users, and I don't regret it. You can easily find it on Google.
First off, Steins;Gate succeeds where most stories fail: the time travelling doesn't ruin the plot. Thankfully, you'll say, but it is rare enough to be pointed out. The plot is intricate but understandable and without holes.
It has the right amount of build-up and one heck of an ending. The pressure rises crescendo, with some powerful highs and legendary scenes. Once you start, you should quickly be unable to stop watching.
The mysteries are explained and developed extremely well, and the story will catch you off-guard more than once. When done right, time travelling is a great trope, and Steins;Gate definitely does it right.
Great cast, obviously. The main duo is one of the most well-known dynamics duos in anime/VNs, and the side cast may be small but it is very touching at times. The group as a whole works wonderfully well.
Steins;Gate has some of the best character development I've seen in a long while. The protagonist is surprisingly realistic considering the circumstances, and also very human. With a great sidekick at his side, he truly leads the way.
Steins;Gate 0, which complements the original series, while not as good, is still above average. Some additions weren't necessary in my mind (especially the two new characters), but it still had some pretty memorable moments.
The movie closes the series in chronological order, and does it well. It gives the second character in the main duo a chance to shine as the protagonist, and considering how much I love her character, I was glad! It's quite a great movie, overall!
Musically, Steins;Gate is good as heck. It has themes of every sort: chill, sad, tension, comedic... In addition, the original opening is as good as it is well-known, and the one from Steins;Gate 0 is also quite nice.
Despite being more than a decade old, the original series has aged pretty well visually. It's not stunning by today's standards, but it holds up. The 2018 series looks on par with what you would call 'good-looking', even to this day.
I could keep praising this anime for a long time, but I doubt it's necessary. I think you get how good I thought it was. It is an obvious recommendation from me, although I doubt many anime fans have yet to watch Steins;Gate... If not, then please do!
Down below are the tierlists for the characters and the ships in this anime. Thank you for reading this review!

All Along There Was Some Invisible String Tying You to Me
Jearmin week day 3: first meeting
@twoboys-onesoul
Since he was a little kid, Armin had always found the park near his home to be the most romantic place he knew. It was nearly a mile walk from his small home he shared with his grandfather, but he didn’t mind. Especially not on days like this.
Armin sat on his favorite bench that overlooked the large rose garden in the center of the park, the faint smell of the blooms hitting his nose and bringing a sense of calm over him. In his hands, one of his favorite books sat open with a small bookmark marking his page, and beside him on the cool iron sat a cup of steaming tea. Around him, people walked their dogs or with other people, but he couldn’t make out much of what was said. The noise faded into the background as he read, getting himself lost in the story spread out across three hundred pages.
After a little while, he set his book down and brought the paper cup to his lips, taking a miniscule sip of the warm drink to make sure it was cooled down enough he wouldn’t burn his mouth, and sighed in contentment as the tea hit his tastebuds. This was perfect, he thought. Nothing could hope to get better than this.
As he sat there, he caught movement from the corner of his eye, and a bubbly couple made their way down the path through the center of the garden, the gravel crunching pleasingly under their feet. The man took the woman right to the heart of it and spoke soft words that Armin couldn’t hear, but thought he had a good idea of what was about to happen. Sure enough, after another few seconds, he dropped to one knee and pulled a small box from his pocket, holding it out for his girlfriend. Armin set his cup down and focused his attention on the couple, waiting with bated breath to know what she would say. It took a moment, but eventually she nodded, and both he and the new fiance breathed a sigh of relief. He watched the two of them for another moment before going back to his book, a soft, happy smile on his face for having witnessed such a magical moment.
-
Jean slumped against the counter, exhausted after a busy dinner rush. It was the beginning summer, the greenhouse’s busiest time of year, because every idiot in the city decided that June was the perfect time to propose or get married, and they always had a tough time keeping up with the amount of orders and walk-ins that came looking for flowers. He ran his hands back through his hair, his head propped up on his palms, and let out a deep, exhausted sigh. It wasn’t near time to go home yet, but part of him considered leaving early just so he didn’t have to deal with anymore people.
Once the last of the stragglers headed out, he took the opportunity to tend to some of the newer plants, the ones that had just started to sprout within the last week. He picked up the watering can they left by the hose and filled it, walking it over to the buds in their pots, and gave them all a good drink. This was one of the best parts of his job. Jean had always been known in his neighborhood to have a bit of a green thumb, thanks to growing up with his mother and the blessing of a corner lot that was mostly a massive garden that she’d tended since she was Jean’s age, and had made sure to teach her young son how to care for the plants they grew. He always loved watching the flowers sprout up at work, offering them quiet encouragements that they would be perfect once they showed themselves to the world.
He watered the sunflowers first, then moved the pots into the sun a bit more, dissatisfied with where they’d been left, then moved onto the roses. Those were his favorites to watch grow. He loved watching the sprouts begin to grow and climb the small trellises they placed in the pots once they were big enough, and always wished he was able to take some of them home to grow on the one he had at the house. He couldn’t, though, because roses were in such a high demand, there were never any left for the employees to bring home by the end of the wedding season.
With a small sigh, Jean watered the roses and then took the can back to its usual place, just in time for the door to open and the cycle to start again.
-
Armin sat near the window of the cafe downtown, the sun shining in and desperately trying to warm him back up. He was sat directly under the vent and cold air blasted him in the face, making him freeze despite his cardigan. It was the middle of summer, his favorite time of year, and he couldn’t wait to be outside watching the birds and listening to the people around him enjoying themselves. In his pocket, he had a small bag of seeds that he could feed them, and looked forward to hearing them chirp excitedly.
A small smile crossed his face at the thought of it, and wrapped his hands around his cup, grateful for the hot tea that was quickly cooling thanks to the AC. Outside, people walked by, but Armin didn’t pay them much mind, preferring to get lost in the pages of his books or the podcasts on his phone. Today, though, he found himself glancing longingly out the window for something he didn’t know. The longer he sat there, the stronger the longing got, and eventually began to turn sad.
He couldn’t figure out what was wrong, but the comfort he normally found in the cafe was just upsetting him now. His tea forgotten for the time being, Armin propped his head up on his hands and let out a long breath, trying to figure his own emotions out.
-
Jean was enjoying a rare day off from the greenhouse and decided to stroll the town, even though the sun was hot and it was starting to get to him. He didn’t mind sweating, but he hated how suffocating the heat was on his back. It made it hard to breathe, and every step he took felt like it added ten pounds to him. He wanted to step inside one of the shops and cool off a bit and hide from the summer sun.
He longed for the cool of autumn, the chilly breeze that knocked leaves from the trees and scattered them on the ground like a monochrome mosaic. Jean loved it. He loved the brisk morning walks with those same leaves crunching under his shoes, the air just beginning to nip at his cheeks and nose, and the flowers that would be in bloom: helenium, pansies, chrysanthemums, asters… it was always beautiful to watch them grow and compliment each other with their deep, rich colors.
With a sigh, Jean pulled himself from his thoughts and back into the blistering heat, and sped up a bit when he saw the sign for the local cafe coming up on his right. Jean booked it, wanting to get into the cool air as fast as possible, and almost bumped into someone as he opened the door.
They were wearing a cardigan of all things, and it struck Jean as so odd, he couldn’t help but watch them for a moment as they disappeared around the corner, perfectly comfortable in long sleeves despite the near hundred degree heat. With a shake of his head, he walked inside and ordered himself an iced coffee.
-
It was a rare night for Armin, having been dragged out of his house by his friends, to let loose. Eren and Mikasa had talked him into getting dinner at the German pub downtown, and he found himself enchanted. Booths and a few tables made up one side, and a bar on the other, it was loud and boisterous and surprisingly a lot of fun. The walls were covered with photographs and maps of Germany, newspaper clippings in both German and English, and faded black and white pictures of men, women, and children from the 1800s on were scattered here and there, giving a quick glimpse into their lives from when they were taken. Everything else was covered in plows and tools from a simpler time, and beer steins with intricate artwork depicted on the bodies.
While the others ordered food, Armin walked around, eyes scanning everything they could take in and finding a huge smile crossing his face and getting lost in the culture surrounding him until his friends called him over to their table.
-
Jean collapsed on his couch after getting home from work, exhausted and ready to be off his feet. He could smell food from the kitchen and hear his mother bustling around, and a little smile crossed his face at the thought of getting to eat some of her cooking. He let himself rest for a moment before getting up and going to help her out.
A half hour later, and they were sharing some käsespätzle and Jean was telling her about his day, and how busy the greenhouse was, and she listened with a proud smile.
“It’s so nice to see you doing something you enjoy so much.” She said, clearing the plates and putting them in the sink, getting ready to do the dishes.
“Mama,” Jean started, getting up and going up to her, “let me worry about it. Please?”
She stared him down for a moment before finally relenting, letting Jean take over. “Thank you.”
With a smile of his own, Jean got everything ready, and a silence fell between them for a moment before he spoke again. “You should come with me to Schmidts sometime to eat. It’s not as good as your cooking, but it would save you some work…”
“Is that the place downtown?” She asked, giving him a curious look. “Maybe someday.”
-
Armin was sat at his favorite bench once again with another book, the stresses of his day beginning to melt away in the warmth of the sun, and after reading for a little while, marked his page and closed it, setting it in his lap and closing his eyes. He didn’t know how long he sat there, but he knew he must have dozed in and out a few times, given how drowsy he was when he finally came to. Armin picked up his tea and blew on it before taking a sip, and really gave himself a moment to savor it. Jean decided to take a quick walk through the park before having to go to work, wanting to be out in the fresh air as much as possible since it wasn’t so hot. It was a beautiful day; the sky was light blue and covered in fluffy white clouds, birds chirped and sang and chipmunks scurried across the path and into the trees for safety, and seeing them made Jean smile. They were a rare sight, and he always enjoyed seeing the little critters running around. He was about halfway done when he caught sight of someone sitting on one of the benches with a cardigan on in the middle of summer.
Jean let himself wonder about it for a second before realizing he’d seen this person before, and with curiosity getting the better of him, he decided to say something. He walked up to them on the side, seeing they had a book in their lap when he was close enough, and chuckled a little bit. “Hemingway?” He commented, and the man on the bench jumped, looking up at him in surprise. He was gorgeous, Jean realized quickly, with big blue eyes and fluffy hair that looked so soft he had to really restrain himself from reaching out to touch it.
“What’s wrong with Hemingway?” Armin asked, looking up at the man with a little bit of a blush in his cheeks, feeling a bit defensive for his taste in literature.
“Nothing, if you like a snooze fest.” Jean said, unable to help himself from teasing a little. “Aren’t you hot in that thing?”
Armin looked down at himself, realizing then that Jean was talking about his cardigan, and tugged self consciously at his sleeve. “No.” He admitted. “I barely notice it, honestly.”
“Well, looking at it is making me hot. You realize this is summer, right?”
Armin just nodded, a bit embarrassed to have so much of himself called out by a total stranger.
Jean saw the blush in his cheeks and thought to himself that he’d never seen something so cute in his entire life. Taking the plunge, he decided to sit down with him on the bench, gently moving his tea a little closer to him so he didn’t spill it. “I’m Jean.” He introduced.
Armin hesitated, looking the man up and down and trying to gage what he was getting at in telling him his name, but after a few seconds, he decided to give in, and took a breath. “Armin.”
“Armin…” Jean repeated, smiling a little when he said it. He really liked the sound of it. “Well, Armin, can I ask what you’re doing sitting in the park with Hemingway for company, and a cardigan on when it’s so damn hot?”
Armin thought about it for a moment, running his fingers over the well worn spine of his book, and shrugged. “I’m just enjoying the day.” He said after awhile. “What are you doing going up to a complete stranger and just sitting down uninvited?”
“Do you want me to go?”
“I didn’t say that.”
Now it was Jean’s turn to think. “I don’t know.” He shrugged. “Just wanted to talk to the weirdo boiling himself to death.” He chuckled.
Armin chuckled, too, unable to help himself, and turned a little so he was facing Jean more directly.
They sat there together most of the day, Jean calling into work and explaining that he couldn’t come in, just talking and getting to know one another. Jean was German, as it turned out, and loved the same pub that Armin was becoming obsessed with. Armin loved sitting and smelling the flowers while he read, and Jean invited him to come visit him at work sometime so he could give him a tour. They both loved the cafe where Jean had first seen him, and after an hour or two, both decided to go get something to drink from there.
As time wore on and Armin found out more and more about Jean, it felt like more than just a coincidence that they’d met there. When he thought about it later, he would almost say it felt like fate, that a single thread tied them together and got shorter and shorter as the days went by, until it was finally small enough that they had no choice but to run into each other. That was fine in his opinion, given how much he really did find he liked Jean, and wondered if that little string would be strong enough to bind them in each other’s lives forever.

Robotics;Notes Elite review
Robotics;Notes, the third visual novel in the Science Adventure series, is by far the most unfortunate entry in the series. Not only is it the follow up to Steins;Gate, one of the most acclaimed and popular visual novels ever released, something that even extends to its anime adaptation, but it had to wait until 2020, 8 years after its release in 2012, to be translated into English, well after every other main entry in the series besides Chaos;Head, with its anime adaptation being the only way to experience it beforehand, and while said anime is a decent watch in its own right, it definitely accentuates the source material’s problems, while adding several more. Needless to say, Robotics;Notes had a lot of things going against it when it was finally released, most of which weren’t even its own fault, and it can definitely come off as an underwhelming entry just from that. However, today, we’ll be putting aside all those external factors and take a fair look at the VN itself, and how it holds up on its own. The version I played was the Steam version, using the Committee of Zero patch, a fan made patch that, among other things, fixes many issues with the translation, and is absolutely the recommended way to experience the VN.
Tumblr media
Kaito Yashio is a student of Chuo Tanegashima High, and one of the two members of its Robotics Research Club. The president of the club, Akiho Senomiya, Kaito’s friend since childhood, and little sister of the club’s founder, Misaki Senomiya, is completely committed to completing GunBuild-1, a lifesize recreation of the titular mecha from the extremely popular anime Gunvarrel, and a project the club has been working on since its creation. Unfortunately for Akiho, everything seems determined to see her efforts be in vain. The club gets no funding, and is seen as a laughingstock among the students, its advisor, Mitsuhiko “Mitchie” Nagafukada, is completely irresponsible and rarely does anything of help, and Kaito is completely apathetic to anything that isn’t KillBallad, a mobile fighting game he’s determined to become the top player in the world in. While the club soon manages to gain three new members, namely Subaru Hidaka, an expert in robotics whose knowledge far surpasses Akiho’s, Junna Daitoku, a former member of the karate club, and Kona Furugoori, aka Frau Koujiro, the teenage creator of KillBallad, their personalities are just as difficult: Subaru sees the project as a lost cause, and refuses to help with it without a compromise, Junna is painfully shy and has a fear of robots, and Frau is a complete shut in and social mess, being completely perverted and mostly talking in outdated slang, which keeps most people from even understanding her. Despite all this, Akiho’s unrelenting passion for mechas, and desire to step out of her sister’s shadow, compel her to continue on.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Kaito one day encounters Airi, an AI that exists within the augmented reality app IRUO, along with a strange AR annotation called the Kimijima Report, authored by Airi’s deceased creator, Kou Kimijima. Within it are warnings of a grand conspiracy that aims to devastate humanity, the details of which are contained in similar reports hidden all over Tanegashima, locked behind “flags” that must be cleared before they become visible. Though at first skeptical, it soon becomes clear to Kaito that the reports contain a disturbing amount of truths, and that he’s become involved in something far larger, and far more dangerous, than he bargained for.
Tumblr media
I’ll say it now, the story’s focus on both of these plotlines causes a number of noticeable issues, mainly due to feeling very disconnected from each other. While all of the main cast except Airi are heavily involved in the Robotics Club plot, only Kaito, Airi, and to a much lesser extent Frau are involved in the Kimijima Report plot, in comparison to, say, Steins;Gate and Chaos;Child, which tied its whole cast into their stories much better. In addition, the majority of the focus is on the club, and though always interesting, the reports tend to go rather uneventfully as well. Due to this, the story can feel very slow and meandering if you don’t know just what you’re getting into, much more so than the other entries in the series, which can definitely make it seem unappealing. Additionally, the story is much less standalone than most SciAdv VNs, where the references are often minor. Here, there are some rather significant references to Chaos;Head and, to a lesser extent, Steins;Gate, to the point of outright spoilers in a few cases, meaning going through those beforehand is heavily recommended, which is especially annoying when Chaos;Head still has no official translation, and only a fan translation for the incomplete PC version.
Tumblr media
Despite all of this, both plotlines are actually quite compelling, once you get used to the game’s pacing. Robotics;Notes’ biggest strength is its absolutely great cast of characters. Everyone in the main cast is very likeable, distinctive, and well developed across the story, and have good dynamics with each other, with Kaito and Akiho’s interactions being some of the biggest highlights of the game, with the end result making everyone feel significant in their own ways, and truly feeling like a unified group, something Chaos;Head and even Steins;Gate struggled with at times. Kaito, who initially comes off as a very motivationless character, has a good amount of backstory and a constant, if subtle, arc throughout the game that makes him properly fleshed out. Subaru, who’d normally just be the token other guy, is a prominent and likeable character in his own right, having a very important role in Gunbuild’s construction, while Frau, who initially just comes off as comic relief, has many great moments throughout the story, with her focus chapter in particular being one of the best in the game. Even Airi has quite a bit more to her than it may seem. The cast is definitely a worthy successor to the cast of Steins;Gate, even more so than Chaos;Child’s, I would say.
Tumblr media
The cast also heavily ties into one of the main themes of the game, namely dreams, the harsh difficulties and compromises one faces in pursuing their dreams, and how losing one can change a person. All of them face this, with varying amounts of focus, and it’s a theme furthered with the prominence of robots throughout the game, both the idealized kind found in mecha anime, and the real, practical robots of the real world. There’s an almost exhaustive amount of detail put into the construction and function of real robots, which makes for some interesting, if sometimes long winded, discussions throughout the game, in true SciAdv fashion.
Tumblr media
While the story is mainly told through Kaito’s perspective, it switches fairly often to other characters, most often Akiho. While the rest of the series except for Steins;Gate does this as well, it’s notable here for giving almost every character, even the supporting cast, at least one scene from their perspective, often focused on their own personal dilemmas, or flashbacks involving Misaki. These perspective switches make a nice change of pace, and definitely help flesh out the characters even further. On the subject of the supporting cast, while most other entries either have supporting casts that are very inconsequential, such as in Chaos;Child, or almost nonexistent, such as in Steins;Gate, Robotics;Notes, on the other hand, has a much more prominent and fleshed out supporting cast. From Mizuki Irei, the harsh and snarky convenience store employee, and info broker to Kaito, to Tetsuharu Fujita, the grumpy but fair “Robot Doctor”, to Mitchie, the horribly unreliable, yet entertaining club advisor, they certainly leave much more of a mark than usual. The most interesting of all, though, is a 20 year old Nae Tennouji, originally a very minor character in Steins;Gate. She has an almost surprising amount of prominence throughout the game, and even has her own ending, if a very short one.
Tumblr media
Compared to most other entries in the series, Robotics;Notes definitely carries a much lighter tone. Tanegashima makes for a very relaxed setting, and as mentioned, there aren’t quite as many big events as one might expect. The characters are generally pretty lighthearted in personality as well, up to Kaito not being nearly as unlikeable to start off as other SciAdv protagonists. However, the tone works quite well, and helps slowly endear the characters to you even early on. And while it’s not quite as messed up as, say, Chaos;Head, it’s got more than a few disturbing elements and scenes of its own. Ultimately, it has the same “feel” as the rest of the series, and when it wants to be intense, suspenseful, sad, or whatever else, it absolutely works, especially from chapter 7 onward.
Tumblr media
As far as “gameplay” goes, there’s a surprisingly large amount of interactivity available. At most moments during the story, Kaito can pull out his tablet and access its various apps. Most prominently, there’s Twipo, an obvious lawyer friendly version of Twitter, where Kaito can look at tweets from the Robotics Club, its associates, and even random accounts commenting on current events, with Kaito having the option to reply to those of the Robotics Club. There’s also IRUO, the augmented reality app, which lets the player look around the area and scan geotags, which contain small profiles for characters, or details for locations or objects. IRUO is also used along with a map app to search for the Kimijima Reports, letting you travel to various different locations on Tanegashima to search. It’s a neat concept, but the icons for the reports are so small, and so many locations tend to be available at one time, that finding them can often just be annoying. There’s also, of all things, the otherwise story reliant KillBallad matches, where you have to successfully input a string of buttons, the length of which varies depending on the opponent’s skill, within a time limit in order to win. Most of the time it doesn’t matter, but there are achievements and even story sequences reliant on winning or losing certain matches. All in all, these make for nice occasional changes of pace, but it’s still a visual novel in the end.
Tumblr media
Visually, Robotics;Notes is actually quite impressive. As can be seen in the screenshots, instead of sprites, 3D character models are used instead in normal scenes, and having played Virtue’s Last Reward and Zero Time Dilemma well before this, I was more than a bit wary of them before release. Thankfully, compared to the cheap models of those two games, they’re much, much better. They’re actually very expressive, and have some great animations that give each character a lot of life. The backgrounds are also quite well done, and Tanegashima definitely makes for a unique and atmospheric setting. As usual for visual novels, there’s also CGs throughout the game, done in a different, but still appealing and well drawn style. Finally, in one of the biggest additions to Elite compared to the original version, occasionally, clips from the anime adaptation is used, mostly to better demonstrate details that were only narration originally, as far as I can tell. This blend of 3D models, CGs, and animation is a bit bizarre at first, but it works surprisingly well, and makes for one of the most visually appealing entries in the series.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As far as sound goes, Takeshi Abo is once again the composer, and once again puts out a very good soundtrack, which further captures and enhances the atmosphere. The soundtrack in general is definitely much lighter and peaceful than usual, but actually has more tracks than most of the SciAdv soundtracks, allowing it to cover many other moods as well. From the very relaxed Winds of Tangegashima, to the mysterious Uchugaoka Park, to the nostalgic Memories with Big Sis, and especially the beautiful title screen theme, Robotics Notes -2nd theme-, there’s a lot of great songs to be found. The voice acting is also very good, and the characters wouldn’t work nearly as well without it, with Ryohei Kimura as Kaito, Yoshino Nanjo as Akiho, Kaori Nazuka as Frau, and Sora Tokui as Junna especially sticking out to me.
Tumblr media
It’s worth noting that Robotics;Notes is on the longer side when it comes to SciAdv, much like Chaos;Child. It’s hardly Fate/Stay Night, but it’ll take some time to get through. It also has a very, very weird and annoying ending system. Whereas in other titles, endings are, just that, actual endings you can diverge into somewhere in the story, Robotics;Notes’ endings are actually just regular chapters that are part of the main story, which just happen to focus on different parts of the cast. The divergence happens in chapter 5, and depends on your replies to said characters on Twipo in both that chapter and the preceding one, with you instead going to the short Nae ending if you don’t fulfill the requirements for any of them. While Steins;Gate had a similar system, and was annoying in of itself, Robotics;Notes takes it to another level by making all but the Nae ending mandatory, though said ending has some points that make it worth seeing regardless, and occurring in a specific chronological order, despite allowing you to get the endings nonlinearly, meaning you could accidentally skip from chapter 5 to chapter 8. The system overall is just unneeded, and following a guide, such as the one by the aforementioned Committee of Zero, is highly recommended.
Tumblr media
In the end, would I recommend Robotics;Notes? To a SciAdv fan, absolutely. To someone who isn’t, well, I already explained the problems there. I can’t say its one of my favorites among the series, but by itself, it’s still something I enjoyed a lot. Despite the issues it does have, its very well done cast, visuals, sound, and overall story make it a memorable and emotional experience in its own right. Now, with yet another long VN review out of the way, I anxiously await the Committee of Zero patch for Robotics;Notes DaSH, to finally finish off my SciAdv journey, for the foreseeable future, at least. Till next time. -Scout

Note
For the Post Studio AU, what was the hardest part of escaping the studio? For everyone? Like, recovery wise, what's the hardest part for the inky Joey Drew Studios crew?
Oof, where to start with this one... I'm gonna set a few exceptions aside that didn't end up in the Cycle but that were still affected by the studio's descent into madness.
Henry Stein - Being a war veteran Henry was already dealing with PTSD and his old injuries, so being stuck in the studio for five long years repeating the same thing over and over, reopened a few psychological wounds he was working through. Coping with double the survivor's guilt isn't easy, especially when he lays awake at night wondering if he could have stopped Joey if he'd just stayed, but Henry is a stubborn son of a gun. He finds ways to march on and does his best to help everyone else.
Sammy Lawrence - The sacrificial cult murders are hard for him to forgive himself for. He's resentful of his own shattered mind, and is stuck in his own personal loop of being unsure of who he is. Surely he's not Sammy Lawrence anymore, nor does he fit the bill of Prophet. When he ends up spitting up the ink that forms Andy (aka Wanderer/Wandering Sin Bendy) he also ends up with a new hurdle to deal with, which is this mischievous cartoon that looks like a character he absolutely loathes, but who is connected to him in a way he might dare say is more like a parent-child relationship than god-subject. Needless to say Sammy needs time and a little bit of affection to bring down the self-loathing walls he's slowly built up. Once he's learned to reach out to others for help instead of being a prideful mule, he'll finally be able to start mending himself.
Jack Fain - He honestly believed he'd never see his husband again, and that nearly broke him. Then when Henry and Linda managed to contact him, Jack was instead afraid that he'd be rejected because he wasn't human anymore. Jack's insecurities made it hard for him to heal and work his way up back into a semblance of humanity, after all who'd ever be able to love a lump of ink that smells like your bathroom plumbing? Thankfully he was wrong and his husband was more than willing to welcome him back into his life. They have 20 years worth of grief and longing to work through.
Susie Campbell - It takes a while for Susie to forgive herself for what Alice had done in the studio (what she'd allowed her to do). But unlike many of the others she can't afford to sit still. As one of the more humanoid survivors she is tasked with helping Allison with groceries and, as such, is confronted with 20 years worth of change. Once she has time for herself she spends it in introspective silence or straight up just writes about it. She ends up uncovering a talent for literature and becomes a self-made successful "fiction" author. Her specialty? Sci-fi horror.
Norman Polk - Norman's life is a living hell even as he is rescued. He's lucid most of the time but (if provoked) he can easily switch back to being a feral mess. The silence is also suffocating to him, so he gets incredibly antsy if there isn't much happening. Combating his wanderlust is difficult so he coped by walking in the woods, often getting lost unless he's accompanied (which is a rule Henry immediately sets up). The most he does at first is to sleep all day and walk all night. Once he gains more of his self-control however, things begin to look up for him. It helps to have an emotional support dog that can keep up with him, as well as having people in his life that treat him like a person still. His little cartoon "child" also brings out the more tender side of his less lucid state of mind.
Allison Pendle - Like Susie she has little time to sit around and wallow. She has many responsibilities and as such is always busy. The only time she has to think and let herself cry is when she's in bed. Thankfully Tom is there for her, even if he can't talk anymore. Being held is enough for her though.
Thomas Connors - At first he's furious at being stuck as a mute cartoon wolf. He feels useless being unable to get a job and help provide for the cabin, and sitting around twiddling his thumbs was never something he liked doing. The only way he has to cope is helping Lacie figure out how to sort out Bertrum's situation, try to find a way to fix Norman's speaker and hearing, as well as keeping an eye on everyone when Allison and Susie leave to go into town. Running outside like an unbound dog alongside Buddy also helps. Freedom and exercise go well together in keeping him nice and active.
Shawn Flynn - He is incredibly frustrated about his size and lack of speech. He used to be a very loud and boisterous man, so being rendered a giant mute unable to convey his thoughts in a meaningful (albeit crude) manner makes him feel a bit isolated. His size also makes it difficult for him to get back into toy-making, but he'll be damned if he doesn't have at least one thing to do with his hands. Most of the time he spends hanging out with Grant who needs a little bit of supervision. He hopes his company helps the depressed mess his dearest friend has become.
Grant Cohen - There's a lot going on in his head, so most days are spent laying around just sleeping. He has very little motivation to do anything, and mostly only trusts Edvard (the Edgar clone that has a piece of his soul) and Shawn. His best days are spent reading or even listening to the radio. That's enough proof that he's unwell but at least coping in his own way. His is very slow progress, but still progress.
Buddy Lewek - He misses his family dearly, and it was hard having to accept he's never going to be a productive member of society, much less see the changes of a progressing civilization. Still Buddy is young. He finds things to busy himself with, enjoys being able to live free and without fear, and still practices his drawing with great gusto (even if he never quite gets Bendy's head right). He won't admit it but running wild like a rowdy pup is actually quite nice. He illustrates Susie's novels.
Abby Lambert - She was in very bad shape like Grant, depressed and suicidal, but was lucky enough to be reunited with her family early on. The occasional letter she sends shows she's doing well and getting better each time a new letter arrives. She feels a little bad that not everyone is as fortunate as her to have the support of their loved ones... Some don't have families to return to at all and that just doesn't sit right with her.
Bertrum Piedmont - Hates life a little less with each attempt Lacie makes at improving his living conditions. Being a stationary amusement park ride takes a toll on one's sanity, so it's normal that Bertrum is incredibly antisocial at first. Fortunately he's slowly warmed up to everyone as time goes on, and the one thing that bothers him is being unable to show his appreciation for the stubborn idiots who keep trying to help him. Inadequacy is a bitch to someone who's used to giving his all.
Lacie Benton - She's a living animatronic and she hates it, but now that she's not immobilized and that Tom built her a new arm, she can actually move on with her life and try to sort the real issues. Starting with Bertrum and Norman who definitely need a bit of refurbishing to live a better life. Surprisingly Bertrum is easier to sort out than Norman, who gets just a little too upset when she touches his speaker or wires...
Emma LaMonte - Like Jack and Abby she got lucky enough to go back to her family. Being as determined as she is, she also managed to regain her human form pretty quickly. Her perfectionist nature may have made her difficult most of the time, but now it's certainly worked in her favor. The one thing that she can't cope with is the memory of once having no legs to speak of... It chills her, the thought she'd never be able to dance again.
The Ink Demon - Binky needs to learn how to people and that in itself is already hard. Learning to cope with the monstrous things he did to everyone else is a whole new can of worms... Luckily the toons seem to like him a lot. It helps to not be cast aside. Henry also makes an effort to teach him as best he can, and show him the affection and understanding that Joey never did.
-
Joey Drew - Fled the country once he realized Henry broke the cycle. Can't deal with the fact he was wrong and that his life's work amounted to nothing, so he avoids dealing with it altogether. He's a wanted man, not by the law but by Henry's own righteous fury and desire for justice, as well as Linda's protective rage over her husband.
Wally Franks - He's the one that got away, so he carries a lot of survivor's guilt on his shoulders. Wishes he'd been able to help in the past, so once Henry contacts him for help finding everyone's families he jumps at the opportunity to do right by his old coworkers. He's the one who gets Norman a dog that wouldn't just flee from him, and he'll donate funds to keep the cabin afloat whenever things aren't doing so good. He visits a lot too.
Dot - She couldn't believe that the people she was sure as hell were dead actually survived Drew's madhouse of a studio. She had to pinch herself when she reunited with them however, because she wasn't expecting... Well... This... She feels responsible for Buddy being stuck as he is because she couldn't save him and instead saved herself. She's taken it upon herself to locate Joey and expose his monstrous actions.
Linda Stein - Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. This lady was not scorned by her husband, but she sure has a bone to pick with Mr. Drew. Luckily for her, Henry feels just as vindictive as she when it comes to Joey's obscene cruelty. Linda does her best to help everyone at the cabin, and gives her all in helping her husband through listening to the things he dare not tell his therapist... Needless to say she's heartbroken that her beloved had to go through two separate hells only to be expected to move on once he got out...

Vintage report: Mudgee 2021
Jacob Stein, Robert Stein Wine, Mudgee
Wineries and grapegrowers in the Mudgee region of NSW are celebrating what we say has been a surprisingly excellent vintage. Following on from the extremely difficult vintage of 2020, most winemakers are breathing a sigh of relief, being able to fill up their cellars again. The previous drought of 2018-2019 saw wine production drop in those years, and the smoke affected 2020 only saw about 25% of the region's wine being made, so we were sweating on 2021 to be great. The gods were kind and gave us some tough but manageable conditions.
We had more rain in the growing season of 2020/21 than in the whole two years of 2018 & 2019 combined. The rain produced numerous downy events through the growing season, but luckily most vineyards were vigilant enough to protect the fruit & produce good quality wine grapes leading into harvest.
Tumblr media
There was a late start to harvest in 2021 with the sparkling base Chardonnay and Pinot Noir being picked on the 2nd and 3rd week of February, with early whites being harvested soon after and into early March.
Luckily we then had four weeks of relatively drier weather, allowing us to concentrate on ripening red varieties. The cool, slow ripening conditions ensured natural acids were retained and flavours able to develop gradually, meaning whites like Riesling, and reds like Cabernet Sauvignon are particularly exciting.
Most early red varieties including Shiraz were picked on the second and 3rd week of March, before the 100mm of rain event started on the 22nd March.
Vignerons were worried about the later red varieties, and some suffered but most powered through this rain event and we were lucky to have three weeks of dry weather to harvest the later Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and some later alternative varieties.
The highlights of the vintage 2021 in Mudgee look to be Riesling and Chardonnay, Rosé is excellent and it seems our Cabernet Sauvignon could be the overall star of this vintage.
All varieties show excellent natural acidity from the cooler vintage, and we were lucky to ripen them with harvest being in the middle of the rain events and slightly lower cropping levels.
Mudgee topography, with elevated and mostly sloping vineyard sites, and being a warm climate was the major factors in us having a good vintage.
Surprisingly, even in a wetter than normal year, most of the Shiraz is showing good concentration and medium bodied with bright purple colour and displays cooler spice and nice red fruit characteristics. With Mudgee cellar doors experiencing a massive influx of tourism and wine lovers, it’s the vintage we needed to fill up our cellars and keep our family owned cellar doors operating at full potential into the year ahead.

Why are you naked on my bed?
My friend dared me to do this prompt so I did. Enjoy.
"Why are you naked on my bed?"
Kendra had been having such a nice, entertaining afternoon. The Legends were relaxing for once and had been discussing famous people they wanted to meet until Jax said he wanted to meet Abraham Lincoln.
Now Carter had a rocky relationship with Lincoln. After they had been reincarnated in the 1800s during the Civil War they helped the Union as spies and Carter had made the courageous battle against Custer that helped win the war. Something he never got recognized but Lincoln got all the credit. This pissed him off to no end, and Kendra found it hilarious.
"He gets all the credit for what I did. I did the work but noooo he's the greatest president ever, he solved slavery, he was such a great debater, I have very thing he has. I'm better!" And she egged him on.
"But he has a top hat." "I can pull off a top hat. I can pull off anything. I wore lederhosen and Marilyn Munro still kissed me."
It had escalated from there and Ray wanted proof that Carter wasn't just making the whole thing up so Kendra went to their room to find a picture. When she entered, she almost fainted.
MICK! There was Mick sprawled across her bed, his eyes lit up.
Naked.
MICK RORY WAS NAKED IN HER ROOM. "I love you Kendra.”
Kendra almost choked on the air she was breathing. He loved her???
This madman who who thought the most pretty thing in the world was fire and vengeance liked her?
No LOVED her? When did this happen? Sure they had a nice moment when he encouraged her to kill Savage but she hardly counted that as love. She didn't even like him with all his crazy, fire happy ways. And he loved her. And he naked. OMIGOD did he want to... NO! NO NO NO!
"Mick, I I I'm in nuh no no no I'm in a relationship with Carter and no and why and since when no no I I please put pants on-" Kendra stuttered, flustered with the recent revelation and trying not to look.  Mick got up, ignoring her pants request and started pacing around the room, "I've always admired you Birdie. You're vicious hawk side, your weapons, your ability to make an alcoholic drink anytime someone wants it, and you're beautiful. I will gladly give up fire if you would be with me. I don't need fire to be happy, I'm a well rounded, smart man who does not need it. But when I woke up this morning I realized I must tell you and what better way to express my love than bearing everything to you."
Kendra felt the room getting a little darker. Give up fire for her.... He couldn't be serious. Why wasn't he putting on pants?
Suddenly there was a bounding up to the room, "Kendra do you have the picture?" Carter called.
"Maybe she can't find it because it never happened." Leonard called after him then a cell phone rang.
"What Lisa? Calm down, excuse, wait he did what?"
Carter entered the room and let out a strangled choking sound "MICK!"
Leonard charged after him "MICK! WHY IN HELL ARE YOU SENDING-" Leonard froze "-NAKED.."
Sara, Ray, Jax and Stein hurried up behind Leonard squeezing all of them into the small room and froze, eyes widened, mouths hanging.
"Sis I'll call you back" Leonard muttered.
"No, No, Lenny I need you! My delete button is broken and I can't get rid of it. There's a naked picture of him in my email. Make him stop being naked in my email. Len, Don't you dare hang up on.." Lisa screeched from the phone.
Click
"Oh so you love her too?” Kendra snarked.  "No, I just sent her an email on how I care about her and I'm sorry for trying to kill her and I would like to go on a stealing spree sometime if she visits." Mick explained.  "With a naked selfie?" Leonard asked.
"Bearing my soul.”  he stated matter of factly.
"Bearing souls and naked selfies. Interesting symbolism." Sara commented, seeming a bit too amused for Kendra’s taste.  "Carter do something." Kendra hissed in his ear.  "What do you want me to do?" Carter whispered, staring worriedly at the love sick pyromaniac "Why is he naked in our room?"
"He apparently loves me" Kendra replied.  "WHAT!!" "I do." Mick added.  The rest of the group stared back and forth between the three.
"See? Help me. Fight for my honor. Something!" Kendra honestly didn't know what to do. She would beat him up but it felt wrong and she already knew what happened when you dump a crazy guy. She knew he was crazy and she had a feeling the whole giving up fire for her might not apply if she rejected him.
"I don't think I can. Beating him up while he's naked, is is is just wrong." Carter said.  "Him being naked in the first place is wrong!" Kendra cried.
"No, it's okay. I thought you might react this way. I just tried you first in case you were interested. Now Sara on the other hand..." Mick walked up to Sara's side, as Sara looked horrified.
"Not your type! I thought we discussed this with fourteen year old you?" Sara protested.
"Legends what are you doing I have been calling you to go to the base for 5 minutes?" Rip strode up, pushing between the shoulders and stopped when he can't sight of Mick on one knee, grasping Sara's hand.
"What. Is. This?”  "No one really knows" Jax answered for the group.  "I want you Sara. If you would have me. I won't even look at fire if that makes you happy. I'm a well rounded, smart man who doesn't need it." Mick said with a surprisingly loving tone.
"Oh" Rip sighed, pinching his nose with exasperation.   "Oh what?" Kendra asked, still confused and oddly a little insulted that Mick had already moved on. What kind of fickle guy is that?
"Mick, Sara please meet me in my office. Mick, please put on some pants. It's enough soul bearing."
Sara quickly walked out and Mick ran to catch up with her. "Any chance he to,d you that he would give up fire?" Rip asked Kendra,
"Yes."
"Oh oh this makes sense. I'll explain, I put a hypnosis tape hidden in his room to play while he sleeps to help at least lessen his love of fire. Pyromaniacs Anonymous has a few that have been very helpful for it's clients. I also added my own so that he would work better with the Team and insult others less. I had said to tell the girls how much you respect them and admire your skills instead of believing he was better. I didn't think he would take it so far as to love you. Nor “bear his soul" in "that" way." Rip explained.  "That’s- that's actually a relief." Leonard exhaled.  "I suppose it did not work as I would have hoped. I'll remove them.. But it might last awhile before he becomes his normal self. You might want to get use to the sight for a few days." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The next morning "MICK WHY ARE YOU NAKED ON MY BED! WE'VE BEEN OVER THIS!" Sara screamed.

Hii I love your blog and i love bungou stray dogs Would you recommend a couple of animes
OH BOI! I’VE WANTED AN ASK LIKE THIS FOR A WHILE!
While I recommend some more than others, I enjoyed all of these anime. I mostly copied and pasted another list that I made, but there we go! Have fun!
Feel Good Stuff – Some stuff that leaves you feeling good about stuff. Whether the majority of the series or film is lighthearted or it’s just laidback, both will be included here.
Tokyo Godfathers: one of my favourite anime movies and far more light-hearted than Koe no Katachi (warning though for slurs used in this movie towards transwomen – she’s still the best character in the movie and the movie makes a point to let her know that she’s the best human on this very planet because Hana is a treasure)
Gin no Saji: If you’ve watched Fullmetal Alchemist, it has the same creator except it’s slice-of-life on a farm. I found it to be touching because it squares in on student experiences and connections. Also has sage advice.
Barakamon: Has children actually voiced by children. I watched it during a really important period of time for me. It centres and hits points that a lot of artists have.
Kimi to Boku: I can’t remember why I enjoyed this anime. I just know that I did for some reason. It was really simple.
The Boy and the Beast: I have mixed thoughts about this movie, but at the end of the day, I really enjoyed it.
Zombieland Saga: I just find it nice to find an idol anime that doesn’t focus on the whole “the girls all have to be cute”. One is a biker chick, one is indicated to be a former prostitute, one is a verified transgirl.
Those Movies That Have to be Mentioned – I’m legally obligated to mention these.
Anthem of the Heart: sounds like a crack premise (“girl gets cursed by an egg to never speak again after seeing her dad cheat with another woman in a love hotel like a castle”) but ends up being really good.
Your Name: practically everyone has watched that.
Koe no Katachi: A lot of people have watched this already. I always recommend it, but it’s very emotionally heavy and deals with suicide, bullying, and disability. It’s ending can make you cry from happiness though.
Wolf Children: Well, only if you’re okay with crying (at least on the inside)
Hotarubi no Mori e: It’s only 40 minutes. Probably won’t make people cry, but yeah, I can’t say that much.
Shounen – crack open one of these, and the boys and girls are sure to come
Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood: I’m legally obligated to mention this. it was one of my first anime (after Magi) and it was amazing.
My Hero Academia: Yeah... I had to mention this too.
Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic: It was my first anime. It has a lot of shonen crap, but it’s also dialogue-heavy.
Seishun Buta Yarou: Drew in fanbois for the “plot” (bunny girl - what else can I say) and made people stay for the actual plot. It ended up being really quirky and funny. It was like the Monogatari series (which I tried and didn’t like) but better and more “legal”
Yakusoku no Neverland: If you’ve watched Chicken Run, imagine that with people. It’s a farm that farms children so they try to run.
Kimetsu no Yaiba: Shonen Jump doesn’t have that many misses.
Noragami: The gags resonated with 14-year-old me
Assassination Classroom: Underdeveloped cast? Yeah, but it was still a really good Shonen Jump adaptation.
Comedy – The stuff that’s not quite conventionally “shounen or shoujo” but still tries to make you laugh, no matter how hard they try or how hit-and-miss they are
Mob Psycho 100: The second season is amazing. I found it to be a really good solid show.
Hinamatsuri: If you like Mob Psycho or if you just like the idea of an adult adopting a kid and teaching them stuff along with the kid teaching them, this is the one for you. I was laughing and crying (from tears of laughter) at this.
Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun: I can’t label this a romance because the romance doesn’t go anywhere. We start at square one and we finish at square one, but the stuff that happens in the meantime makes it all worth it.
Danshi Koukousei no Nichijou / Nichijou: Hit-and-miss, but there are a lot of iconic moments here.
Hataraku Saibou: I think this fits the best here. It’s just a good solid anime about cells in your body.
Shoujo/Romance – In case you need some fluff to fill the dark times; cheese levels vary.
Fruits Basket: Shoujo at its best.
Kono Oto Tomare: I don’t know how this got produced by Shonen Jump SQ because it’s like a cliche shoujo that would make even shoujo manga readers throw up flowers
Toradora: It’s a hit-and-miss for people just because the main character is a tsundere (played by the queen of tsundere herself)
Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakama-tachi: this ended up being a guilty pleasure for me – not quite a direct romance but direct enough
Haikara-san go Tooru: Technically a movie and only has the first part, but the manga is from mid-70s is a shining example of the feminist boom in Japan after WWII
Gamers!: This was best explained by a comment I read somewhere going “I love this anime, but it makes me want to bang my head on a wall repeatedly”. Misunderstandings: The Anime. Everyone has a hard time.
Kaguya-sama: It was a huge hit in the 2019 Winter season of anime and for good reason. It’s getting a new season coming up too.
Wotakoi: Two adults falling in love. It’s funny and a little bit niche and directed towards otaku.
Yamada-kun to 7-nin no Majo: Technically a shounen, it was a harem anime that ended up being pretty good? I was so side-tracked by the idea of that, especially since I found the premise mildly interesting. The manga gets extra points for being really cute with that last chapter. I mean, it has boobs, ass, and a lot of kissing, but the female mangaka was taught by the creator of Fairy Tail so it’s really runs in their roots.
Shigatsu no Kimi no Uso: Ultimately included this one in romance, but many would say this belongs in the next category.
Akagami no Shirayuki-hime: This is so heavy on cheese that I had to pause at times and go “what am I doing? Is this how I die? How will my family react to me watching this?” (the last question is one I ask of myself often)
Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun: A lot of people who’ve watched BSD like this anime. Tumblr loves this anime.
The Horror! The Horror! Some Dark Stuff That Belongs in a Cauldron, and those onion-cutting ninjas. – Honestly, it’s not my favourite genre, but some of these ended up being among my favourite anime?
Death Parade: It wasn’t in the genre I usually watch (no comedy at all), yet I was moved every time? That last figure skating scene was *Canadian-French Accent* C’est Magnifique.
Shinsekai Yori: I watched this anime feeling SOOOOO UNEASY. Nothing was even happening that was “scary”. It was just the mere ideas behind it as the eerie world-building led me to go “WAHHHHH” over my computer. It’s one of the best anime I’ve watched, but I can’t recommend it to everyone.
Mousou Dairinin: It’s Satoshi Kon but sane. You actually get a conclusive ending. It has a surprisingly current message behind it though. It’s like Satoshi Kon continues to influence.
Perfect Blue: Now to the less sane Satoshi Kon work that confused me. Western movies literally copied one of the scenes from this movie.
No. 6: I can’t list this anywhere else, but it was the first anime to depict a really, really, really sweet gay relationship. Even though it was a complete fail adaptation-wise, it also gave Hosoya (voice actor) inspiration to keep going. It’s a gift.
Anohana: *ahem* I was recommended the anime by someone I’m no longer close with, but the memories that I had watching this and the message was probably the closest an anime has brought me to actually crying in a non-depressive fashion.
Gakkougurashi: Cute girls doing cute things with zombies that are about to eat them and destroy them all.
Erased: Okay, compared to other great series that I’ve yet to watch (Steins;Gate and Monster), it’s probably trash, but I remember really enjoying it when I first watched it.

Continuity Note: About 1000 years before the events of Dragon Ball Z.
[30 October, 233 Before Age. Interstellar Space.]
After much soul searching, Wampaaan'riix decided to travel into Federation space. His homeworld of Yetitan wasn't a member of that interstellar alliance, but he felt an obligation to its founder, the Super Saiyan Luffa. Before she had become the Federatrix, even before she became the Legendary Super Saiyan, she had made the very un-Saiyan decision to spare his life, a debt he could never truly repay.
From what he could tell by the news coverage, the Federation had become a target of a large band of Saiyans who objected to Luffa for her "un-Saiyan" characteristics. She had been joined by a second large gathering of Saiyans, who only seemed to tolerate her as long as she helped them fight the first group. And so, the Federation had become the battleground for a Saiyan civil war. This was what urged him to journey into the war zone. It galled him to think that such a noble and honorable Saiyan should be so thoroughly despised by her own kind. Though a proud warrior, he doubted that he could be of much help against such powerful enemies, but Luffa had shown him that there was honor to be found in other things besides mere combat.
The others had contacted him on Yetitan, mostly to fill him in on what was going on, or to ask for his advice on difficult matters. He was never sure what to tell them. It seemed wrong for him to offer suggestions while so far removed from the situation. Sometimes it seemed that it didn't matter, as if they only wanted him to listen, but it still bothered him. And so, after discussing it with his family, and making the ritual preparations for a potential battle, he loaded up his small cruiser and left Yetitan, bound for the Federation border.
The hardest part was convincing his son Dewbaaac'nogg not to join him. The boy had become a fine young man, in spite of his irreverent tone and his hero worship of Luffa, but he had his own warrior's path to follow, and Wampaaan'riix didn't want to distract from that. Perhaps if there was a chance of them getting to fight alongside Luffa against a horde of enemy troops, then he might have reconsidered, but she was so far beyond Yetitan power that the two of them would only get in her way.
The second hardest part of his journey lay at the end. Wampaaan'riix wasn't sure how much trouble it would be to actually enter Federation space once he arrived. His working plan was to try to contact the Yetitan Embassy on Woshad, or to simply hail Luffa's star-yacht and rely on her authority to clear the way. All he knew for sure was that he didn't dare to cross over without permission. Their fleet would assume he was a Saiyan invasion craft and blast his ship to atoms at first sight.
And yet, when he did arrive at the border, he found the situation surprisingly peaceful. A border patrol spotted him on their long-range sensors and contacted him. After a brief-but-thorough verification of his credentials, they escorted him to Woshad. The planet's defenses were on high alert, but he found nothing to indicate a war. His attempts to contact Luffa's ship failed, and just when he began to wonder what had happened to her, he received a response, an encoded transmission from Dr. Topsas through the Federation subspace network.
"I've decided to join you," Wampaaan'riix told him. "Give me your coordinates, and I can rendezvous with Luffa."
"I rather doubt that," Topsas replied. "You may join the rest of us on Planet Despye if you like, but Luffa and her ship have left Federation space."
Beneath the shaggy white hair that covered his face, Wampaaan'riix's jaw dropped.
*******
[31 October, 233 Before Age. Despye.]
Miqann was Despye's sixteenth-largest city. It boasted one of the few restaurants on the planet that specialized in Bigreenese cuisine and al fresco dining. There, Wampaaan'riix found Dr. Topsas, who brought him up to date on the war.
"I should have come here sooner," he grumbled. "Not that she needed much help with her counterstrike, from the sound of things. But at least I could have wished her well."
"I'm sorry, Mr. Wampaaan'riix," said Dotz, who sat with them. She was a humanoid fortuneteller dressed in flowing purple clothes and beaded ornaments. "If I had forseen your arrival, I could have told Luffa about it before she left, and she might have waited for you."
"Dotz, we just met an hour ago and you've already apologized to me four times," Wampaaan'riix said. "Let me assure you, I'm not so easily offended."
"Sorry," Dotz said.
"Perhaps Luffa did expect you to come here," Dr. Topsas suggested, "and she hastened her departure accordingly. You know how she despises long goodbyes."
"Maybe so," Wampaaan'riix said. "I take it she just dumped the three of you on this planet and sped off without a word."
"Just the two of us," Dotz said. "Zatte went with her."
"What?!" Wampaaan'riix said, nearly shouting.
"Sorry," Dotz said again.
"Come now, Wampaaan'riix, you cannot be overly surprised to hear this," Topsas said as he sipped from a mug of hot cider. "You know how devoted Ms. Zatte is to Luffa's cause. She's more like a disciple than a wife to her sometimes."
"She's still her wife, doctor," Wampaaan'riix muttered. "I left both of mine on Yetitan, and I wasn't even planning to fight anyone. With all respect to Zatte's combat prowess, she'd be completely outclassed in a battle like the one you described."
"I am quite sure that point was brought up," Topsas said. "But even if Luffa didn't want her to come along, I suspect Zatte would have sneaked back on board the ship anyway. In marriage, one must bow to the inevitable, but I suppose you know this twice as well as the rest of us."
Wampaaan'riix gave a knowing grunt in reply.
"Um, well I've never been married," Dotz said, "but... well, I think it's romantic. They make a nice couple. Even when they're arguing you can tell how much they care about each other." She poked at her half-eaten dessert for a moment before adding: "I'm sort of, you know... well, it's nice that they've got the ship to themselves. I always felt like I was in the way all the time."
"In the way?" Dr. Topsas's pedipalps began to move in a certain way, though no humanoid was likely to interpret his body language with much success. "My dear, nothing could be further from the truth. They've always spoken very highly of you."
"Well, yes," Dotz said, "but... I'm sure they were just being polite."
"'Polite', my foot," Wampaaan'riix said. "Zatte told me about how much you helped out with ship's operations. She said you even piloted the thing a few times."
"Only because there wasn't anyone else who could do it," Dotz said. "They were busy sometimes, and--"
"And you were helping," Topsas insisted. "To say nothing of your psychic predictions. That alone has made an enormous impact on this war."
"And Topsas told me you helped him sort the drugs in the yacht's sickbay," Wampaaan'riix added.
"Well, it wasn't that difficult," she said. "Anyone could have done that, he just needed an extra set of, um, hands."
Topsas was cradling his beverage in two hands, and he now raised three more over the edge of the table. "On the contrary, Ms. Dotz, I've worked with a number of interns who have trouble keeping up with me. You ought to go into nursing, assuming the fortunetelling business should out of favor."
"Well... but... thank you," Dotz finally said, after struggling to find a response. "I'm sorry, I don't take compliments very well. I just... I take my abilities as a given sometimes. Luffa kept praising me for predicting when the Jindan cult would strike next, but she was the one who had to go there and fight those battles. To me, it might as well have already happened."
"Zatte also told me you were trying to enhance your ability," Wampaaan'riix said. "I didn't know seeing the future was something that could be improved."
She shifted in her chair somewhat awkwardly. "I, um, I didn't know either. But I've had a blind spot when it comes to Luffa's personal future. Something always blocks me when I try to see what happens to her specifically. That's why I don't know what will happen at Nagaoka. There won't be any more Saiyan attacks here for a long time to come, but I don't know if that's because she'll win or lose. I've been trying to fix that, and I'm made some headway, but not when it comes to her future."
"Then it's no mystery why Luffa respects you so much," Wampaaan'riix said as he took a sip from his stein. "She's the most driven person I know, and she finds inspiration from the drive of others. It's like she feeds off of it."
"That's nice of you to say," Dotz said. "But really, I was just trying my best to fill the gap left behind by Keda."
"Keda?" Topsas asked.
"I... I never knew her, but it didn't take long for me to see how important she was to all of you," Dotz said. "I'm sure having me around instead of her was painful, and... well, I wanted to do what I could to make that easier. I know I could never replace her, though. She was like a little sister to them."
"Yes, she was," Topsas said wistfully. "It's been... Ninth Eye, it's been almost three years now since Keda died, hasn't it? I still find it hard to believe that she's really gone."
"What happened to her?" Dotz asked.
"An enemy tried to destroy the people of Planet Extraliga," Wampaaan'riix explained, somewhat reluctantly. "While Luffa fought him, Zatte attempted to disarm his weapon, and when she was injured, Keda sacrificed herself to save her, and everyone else on Extraliga."
"Oh," was all Dotz could think of to say.
"It was very difficult for them," Topsas said. "And for their marriage. I recommended a counselor for them, though I don't know if they actually made much use of him. I think Luffa's crusade against King Rehval and his cult has helped. Or perhaps it merely provides a convenient distraction."
"I should have been there," Wamaaan'riix said. "On Extraliga. Even if I couldn't have helped... better to have died in Keda's place..."
He leaned back as well as he could in his chair. The chairs at this establishment were barely designed to accommodate his nine-foot-tall frame, and he didn't want to test their limits, in spite of his mood. "I envy you, Dotz. And you too, Doctor. At least you've been able to help Luffa in these past few months. All I have is my strength, which might as well be nothing against the kinds of battles she's been in."
"One does what one can," Topsas said. "Luffa has always spoken of you with great esteem."
"I thought it was so simple," he said as he stared off to his left. "I wanted to go out in the universe and test my abilities in real combat. Then I ended up meeting the strongest warrior in all of creation. After that, nothing seemed quite so cut and dried anymore. No matter how strong I get, no matter what I may achieve, there will always be some stone left unturned. Some path not taken. I can fight alongside Luffa, like Zatte's doing now, or I could die a hero like Keda, or I can stay at home and see to my family, but never all at once. No matter what I choose, I'll have to leave something undone. It'll never feel like enough."
"Would you really want it to be enough?" Topsas asked. "I've seen how frustrated Luffa has become, whenever she thought that she had reached the limit of her abilities, or that there were no new challenges to overcome. Imagine if you could do it all, Wampaaan'riix, or that you had already done it all, many years ago. What would there be left for you?"
"You're right," Wampaaan'riix said. "I've always known that was the way of things, but I feel as though I've only begun to understand that. When I was younger, I didn't consider that there would be some failures that couldn't be undone, or opportunities that could never be chosen once they were past. Or debts that could never be repaid."
"I know what you mean," Dotz said. She seemed relieved to have some common ground with the hairy giant. "Luffa saved my life too. Well, maybe not my life, but I'd still be in a coma if not for her. Wait, she did save your life, didn't she? I can't remember if you already told me that or not."
"We were opponents in a deathmatch tournament," Wampaaan'riix explained. "Luffa wouldn't transform for another several months, but she was already far more powerful than any Saiyan I had encountered before. She basically toyed with me, just to test her abilities. Then she read my mind, just to see if she could."
"You mean she didn't always have that ability?" Dotz asked.
"No," Wampaaan'riix said. "Later she admitted to me that she had no idea what she was doing. She had advanced so rapidly in such a short time. She would get badly hurt in each round of the tournament, and Dr. Topsas here would heal her wounds so she could fight again. When a Saiyan recovers from near-fatal injuries, their battle power increases dramatically. So by the time she had advanced to our match, she had gone through several cycles of this. Her senses were so keen that she could tell what I was going to do just from sensing the way I used my ki. So she thought if she got close enough to touch me that she could see through my entire fighting style. And it worked, except she also saw my memories and emotions. She experienced for herself my fear of dying, and the regrets I had in what I thought were my final moments, and so she decided to let me live. Then the tournament organizers tried to have us both executed."
"Mercy was against the rules, you see," Dr. Topsas interjected.
"And so Luffa had to fight them and shut down their operation," Wampaaan'riix explained. "She was offended at the idea that they would try to stop her from sparing me."
"Huh," Dotz said. She rubbed her thumb under her lower lip as she digested this story. "Well then... when you put it that way, I guess you sort of saved me too."
"Eh?" Wampaaan'riix asked.
"Well, um, it's just that, Luffa used her telepathic powers to bring me out of the coma," Dotz said. "But she only knew she had that power because of her fight with you. So if it hadn't been for you, she probably wouldn't have even tried to help me."
"I... I suppose you're right," Wampaaan'riix said.
"And Luffa wouldn't have gotten to that level at all if it hadn't been for you, Doctor," Dotz added. "You've helped me a lot, but that's another one I owe you."
"Think nothing of it," Topsas said. "I was merely plying my trade that day. Just another shift of putting people back together again."
"It's more than just that," Wampaaan'riix said. "Luffa really admires you, Doctor."
"That's right," Dotz said. "I guess you've really been working hard to heal her quickly for all of these battles. I think lately, she's only been worried about getting hurt because of how much extra work it'll take you to fix her up."
Topsas took another sip of his cider and made a motion that might have been an arachnoid version of a shrug. "That little mammal is my nemesis, you know. Always daring me to find new ways to mend her wounds. I could write a book on Saiyan medicine after all these years. Or I could, except I'll likely be too busy operating on her when she returns from Nagaoka."
"You're like a father to her, Doctor," Wampaaan'riix said. "You know that, don't you?"
"I gave her away at her wedding," Topsas said. "At her request. The thought had occurred to me."
"Hmph. Just making sure."
"Well you may take this as confirmation," Topsas said. One of his eight hands reached into the pocket of the sweater that covered most of his cephalothorax, and he withdrew a datapad. "It seems Luffa has decided to play this surrogate child role to the hilt, and meddle in my affairs. She's arranged a transport to take me back to my home planet."
"Your son already tried that, didn't he?" Wampaaan'riix asked.
"Yes, and I missed the transport because I chose to focus on Luffa's care," Topsas said. "She must have found out about this, and decided to take matters into her own hands. Or her own feet, I should say. I believe her exact words were: 'If you're not on that ship when it leaves, Doc, I'll kick you all the way there myself.'"
"Are things bad with your family, Doctor?" Dotz asked.
"Not at all," he said, somewhat surprised by the question. "I would have made my way home eventually. I fully intended to go back very soon, after things had settled down here. But no one has the patience for a fellow to make his own itinerary. At least this will improve Luffa's reputation among my brood."
"Well, I'm sorry to see you go," Dotz said. "But I think it's for the best. You've done so much for the Federation and these people just by looking after Luffa. When do you leave?"
"Not for another three weeks," Topsas said. "That should give time for Luffa to return, or at least send word. I for one, do not mind long farewells."
"Heh. You remember how she left us on Bigreen?" Wampaaan'riix asked.
"Naturally," Topsas said. "That was why I chose this restaurant to meet. Very much like the one we used to eat at, isn't it?"
"What happened on Bigreen?" Dotz asked.
"Luffa saved the planet from an evil wizard," Wampaaan'riix said. "As it turned out, it was the same evil wizard who menaced the planet a thousand years before. 'Hamon,' I think his name was."
"Hamey," Topsas corrected.
"Right, that was it," Wampaaan'riix said. "He was no match for Luffa, except she refused to fight him in her transformed state. She was still getting used to it, and thought the form was unnatural. Her ancestor, Chanisp, defeated Hamey the first time, and she wanted to win the same way. Then she found out that Chanisp had been Super Saiyan like her. Once she came to terms with that, she made short work of Hamey."
"Then that Janso fellow approached her about a mercenary job on Gwarthos, and she couldn't wait to get back on the move," Topsas said. "A few awkward 'thank you's', and she was off. But it was comforting to see her so enthusiastic again."
"Yes," Wampaaan'riix said. "I was tempted to join her, but I got more than my fair share of action from that battle with Hamey. I knew if I tagged along, I'd be reduced to a spectator."
"I think she would have enjoyed having you along, for what it's worth," Topsas said.
"Maybe so, but at least Keda had something to do, even if it was just managing her finances," Wampaaan'riix said. "No, I'm a warrior, and Luffa has that market cornered. I'll pay my respects to her when the battle on Nagaoka is over, but then I'll head back to Yetitan, where I belong."
"I just hope all of you stay in touch," Dotz said. She looked down at her plate and went back to poking at her dessert. "It's sad to see you all go your separate ways, even if it's to be with your families. You're so much like a family with each other."
"Surely you mean to say 'we', Ms. Dotz," Topsas said. "You're as much an accessory to this madness as the rest of us."
"That's right," Wampaaan'riix said. "You don't get off that easily."
She looked up at them both, and started tugging at the edges of her shawl with her free hand. "Me? Oh, no," she said. "I could never be... the rest of you, and Keda... I mean, I'd like to think of you all as friends--if that's okay--but--"
"Ms. Dotz, you really must cease this one-sided rivalry you have with Keda. She was a dear friend and will be sorely missed, but that is hardly an obstacle for you to overcome. I have 47 sons and daughters, for example. Keda was very much like a sister to Luffa and Zatte, and you have been as well."
"Really?" Dotz asked. "I mean, I'm so much older than they are, and..."
"Then you're an older sister," Wampaaan'riix said. "Hells, Zatte even said as much to me during a subspace call. They were both only children growing up, and their mothers died when they were young. They almost didn't know what to make of you at first, but it didn't take them long to enjoy having you around."
"I apologize," Topsas said. "Perhaps I should have mentioned this to you some time ago. I just assumed that you knew how they appreciated you. Listening to the three of you chatter like Camelian pelicans, it seemed like you all understood."
Dotz was overwhelmed. "I just... I'm sorry, maybe I did know, but I didn't want to believe it. Didn't, ah, want to get my hopes up, in case I had the wrong idea."
"And Luffa calls me modest," Topsas groaned. "Nonetheless, I'm sure they'll be pleased to have you back on board when they return, if that's what you want. And Wampaaan'riix and I may drop in on you from time to time."
"I'm not so sure," Dotz said. "I mean, you've all been so kind to me, and I'll never forget it, but, um... I don't know that I'm meant to stay in this situation. I feel like I need to move along, like the two of you are about to do. The only trouble is, um, I'm not sure what I need to do with myself next."
"You had a life before Luffa rescued you," Wampaaan'riix said. "It's only sensible that you return to that."
"No," Dotz said. "Fortunetelling was a job, not a life. The only family I had was my mother, and she passed on a long time ago. There's nothing waiting for me back home, not really. Besides, I'm not sure I'd want to go back to telling fortunes, not after all of this. It seems too small somehow."
"Then perhaps this is an opportunity," Topsas suggested. "You stand at a crossroads in life. And before you say it, let me promise you that one is never too old to travel a new path. Trust one who knows from experience."
She raised her fork and opened her mouth, as if to argue, then stopped, and smiled instead. "Okay, maybe you're right. I've been thinking a lot about what Luffa said at the Federation Council meeting we went to. She killed that general for saying all those terrible things, but... well, I'm not sure that was the best way to deal with that. I think Luffa wants to help out people who've been mistreated or marginalized, but if she uses too much violence to do it, it could spark a backlash. And her opponents can't fight back against her, so they'll take it out on the people she wants to help. If, uh, that makes any sense."
"It makes sense to me," Topsas said. "Your abilities are nonviolent, so perhaps you can find a different way."
"Well, the problem is, I'm not sure if I can or not," Dotz said. "My clairvoyance has improved a lot since I met Luffa, but I still feel like there's a lot of work I need to do. I'm not sure if it's right for me to just try to dive into anything without a plan."
"Then perhaps it would be best if you spent some more time with Luffa and Zatte before striking out on your own," Topsas said. "I'm sure we'll all meet again someday, and by then you'll tell us all about how you managed to untangle this particular knot."
"No," Dotz said after a long pause. "I'm sorry, but I don't think so. I'd need to get out my cards, do a proper reading to make sure, but... this place, the two of you. The vibrations feel very... solitary to me. I don't think the three of us will ever see each other again."
An awkward silence followed this declaration. Suddenly, they each became very aware of their surroundings. The rustle of the breeze through the bushes surrounding the tables. The clinks and scrapes of dishes and flatware from the other diners. A Bigreenese waiter chatting with a customer several yards away.
"I'm sorry," Dotz said. "I, uh, have a way of sucking the life out of a party sometimes. Maybe I shouldn't have said anything."
"Why don't you come with me?"
Dotz looked over to Wampaaan'riix, who was now extending his massive hand towards her. "Excuse me?" Dotz said.
"I'm inviting you to come back to Yetitan with me," he said. "It's a very cold planet. Most humanoids find it too cold for their liking, but our language has a hundred words for 'cozy', so I think we could make your stay comfortable. And my son would be thrilled to meet another one of the Super Saiyan's comrades."
Once more, Dotz was too amazed for words. "You... I... You mean, live on your home planet. To stay?"
"Not forever, but for a while at least," he said. The fur on his lower face ruffled in such a way to indicate a smile underneath. "My culture has a very honored tradition of self-development, Dotz. I know it mainly from a martial arts perspective, but you may find our ways useful for honing your mind, or your spirit, or whatever else it is you use to see into the future."
"I... well, why not?" she said. With a newfound confidence, she placed her hand in his. "At least it gives me a place to start."
"You wouldn't be trying to cheat fate, would you, Wampaaan'riix?" Topsas asked. "If Dotz is correct, then perhaps it's a ill-advised for us to try to stick together any longer than necessary."
"Not at all, doctor," he said. "I owe a debt to Luffa that I can never repay. So maybe the answer isn't to save her life, but to help someone else instead. And if that lets Dotz help others in turn, then so much the better. If you and I may never see each other again, then so be it, but I only just met Dotz. If this is the only chance for me to get to know her, then I'd like to make the most of it. Besides..."
"Yes?" Topsas asked.
Wampaaan'riix chuckled. "I, for one, enjoy long goodbyes."
NEXT: Nagaoka.

Random List of Anime Recommendation:
This is mostly directed for @caratheillustrious but I figured posting it wouldn’t really be that much of a problem anyway. I’ll divide these up into categories in terms of mood.
Gin no Saji: If you've watched Fullmetal Alchemist, it has the same creator except it's slice-of-life on a farm. I found it to be touching because it squares in on student experiences and connections. Also has sage advice.
Barakamon: Has children actually voiced by children. I watched it during a really important period of time for me. It centres and hits points that a lot of artists have.
Kimi to Boku: I can't remember why I enjoyed this anime.
Anthem of the Heart: sounds like a crack premise ("girl gets cursed by an egg to never speak again after seeing her dad cheat with another woman in a love hotel like a castle") but ends up being really good.
Your Name: practically everyone has watched that.
Koe no Katachi: A lot of people have watched this already. I always recommend it, but it's very emotionally heavy and deals with suicide, bullying, and disability. It's ending can make you cry from happiness though.
Wolf Children: Well, only if you're okay with crying (at least on the inside)
Hotarubi no Mori e: It's only 40 minutes. Probably won’t make people cry, but yeah, I can’t say that much.
Shounen – crack open one of these, and the boys and girls are sure to come
Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic: It was my first anime. It has a lot of shonen crap, but it's also dialogue-heavy.
Seishun Buta Yarou: Drew in fanbois for the "plot" (bunny girl - what else can I say) and made people stay for the actual plot. It ended up being really quirky and funny. It was like the Monogatari series (which I tried and didn't like) but better and more "legal"
Yakusoku no Neverland: If you've watched Chicken Run, imagine that with people. It's a farm that farms children so they try to run.
Kimetsu no Yaiba: Shonen Jump doesn't have that many misses.
Noragami: The gags resonated with 14-year-old me
Assassination Classroom: Underdeveloped cast? Yeah, but it was still a really good Shonen Jump adaptation.
SKET Dance: The romance is too... canonly ambiguous for me to really put this under “romance”, it’s a comedy but can be serious, so I decided to put it under here. It’s quickly become one of my favourites.
Kono Oto Tomare: I don't know how this got produced by Shonen Jump SQ because it's like a cliche shoujo that would make even shoujo manga readers throw up flowers
Toradora: It's a hit-and-miss for people just because the main character is a tsundere (played by the queen of tsundere herself)
Hamefura: Have you ever wished for a harem with GUYS and GALS?! Have you ever wished for a bisexual harem with a protagonist is dumb, and literally everyone but her knows it?! Look no further!
Araburu Kisetsu no Otome-domo yo.: I found this to be a very empowering anime. It tackles the sexuality of women, and it does it in a very... unique package.
The Horror! The Horror! Some Dark Stuff That Belongs in a Cauldron, and those onion-cutting ninjas. – Honestly, it’s not my favourite genre, but some of these ended up being among my favourite anime?
Death Parade: It wasn't in the genre I usually watch (no comedy at all), yet I was moved every time?
And that ends my TED Talk.

[ pay ] your muse paying for mine at a store , bar , restaurant , etc . ( you can specify where or for what . )
Scrooge was usually inclined to roll his eyes when Jacob invited him out drinking. He didn’t see the point in wasting money to sit in the company of loud strangers. He couldn’t imagine that he was the target patron for the sorts of places that Jacob liked to visit anyway, based on the stories that he told.
He couldn’t say what quite had persuaded him to join this time. It could have been the slight pleading tone in Jacob’s voice or the soft look in his eyes, or perhaps it was the way that his house always felt a bit emptier when they’d recently parted. But he agreed and the utter glee that lit up Jacob’s face was a reward in and of itself.
As they walked down the street, Scrooge tried to keep pace with his friend, who was chatting animately about the experience they were about to have. Scrooge’s typical inclination was to stride through this part of London as quickly as possible but, as he had already admitted to himself, this was not a day for the usual.
He reminded himself to acknowledge Jacob’s words and nodded as he spoke, though he didn’t quite catch all the names being rattled off. The summer evening glow lit his face perfectly, and Scrooge hoped that his friend didn’t notice the way that he must have been gaping at him.
When they came upon the pub, Jacob opened the door for him and Scrooge found the gesture, small as it was, to be oddly touching. He inclined slightly in a teasing bow but proceeded through, indeed meeting a wall of noise and odor beyond even what he’d expected.
Feeling entirely out of place, he proceeded to the bar and took a seat, cautious of any sticky residue that his hands might encounter. The air was thick and tasted of smoke and sweat and old beer.
“God, Ben, you act like this place will infect you.” Jacob cuffed his shoulder lightly and Scrooge’s chest fluttered.
“It very well might. I’m holding you accountable if I wind up ill.”
“Of course you will. Don’t worry, I’ll be there to hold your hair back if you end up retching.” Scrooge was unfortunately endeared to the thought of him doing just that, minus the retching and he hoped his face didn’t give too much away. The noise level was merciful in that it allowed them to talk freely and that was one clear positive.
“I suppose I’ll trust you to order for me,” he said, noticing that the barkeep was approaching. “Though I hope my trust isn’t misplaced.”
“Has it ever been?” Jacob winked. “Relax.”
“I’ll do my best.” Scrooge leaned back against his chair, against his better judgement.
Jacob plunked down two coins and made the order. Scrooge supposed it only made sense for Jacob to pay, since he’d invited him, but some buried knowledge suggested that Scrooge was meant to get the next round.
“I know it’s a little rowdy in here,” Jacob offered, “but it can be good for clearing your head.”
“I’d imagine you’re right. The din does seem to die off, the more you get used to it.”
Their pints arrived and following a polite clink of steins against each other, Scrooge took a tentative sip. It was rather bitter for his palette, but it went down easy all the same.
“It’s nothing fancy, to be sure,” Jacob, “But it gets the job done.”
Scrooge nodded. That it certainly did, as the warmth flooding his body could attest. Nearly as warm was the hand that suddenly occupied his thigh.
“Are you alright, Ben?” Jacob asked softly. “You’re awfully quiet.”
“Perfectly fine, just taking it all in.” He was telling the truth, for once.
“I know this isn’t really your scene, I didn’t really mean to drag you out. Well, I did, but not if you didn’t want to come.”
“No, no, I did—I do! I suppose I’m just a bit unused to the setting. I do tend to hole up in my cave, as you know.” He rather urgently hated the idea that he’d offended or disappointed Jacob somehow.
“You do, which is why you need to leave it every now and again.” Jacob was still frowning, but seemed more satisfied with that answer.
The crowd at the other end of the bar was starting up a drinking song, and Jacob squeezed his thigh in anticipation. “Do you know this one? I think I remember the words.”
“Yes, it sounds familiar.” Something about sea and ships and love lost. Scrooge had a decent enough voice, and muddled through most of the words, but found himself grinning as their voices met in harmony. He could hardly hear them amongst anyone else, of course, but somehow that didn’t matter. Before long, he found himself raising his mug in cheer along with everyone else, Jacob’s arm resting comfortably across his shoulders.
They burst into comfortable laughter as the song drew to a close, Scrooge lowering his mug to the counter with slightly more force than he intended.
“Careful,” Jacob teased, looking at him fondly. “I don’t want to have to replace it because you don’t know your own strength.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll make it certain that my true power is a mystery to everyone including me,” Scrooge grinned, feeling terribly foolish but it the best possible way.
Jacob squeezed his shoulder gently and before Scrooge knew it, his mug was full again.
“I didn’t realize you could sing like that,” Jacob nudged him. “You’ve been holding out on me.”
“I’m alright.” Scrooge grinned, flush with the compliment. “Sang in the choir for a few years at school.”
“No kidding? Why’d you stop?”
“Lost interest.” Scrooge replied tacitly, as if he’d practiced it. He’d long ago learned how to shut down those memories, lest he risk revealing them—revealing any weakness. “You’re not bad yourself. A benefit of your genteel upbringing?”
“Maybe.” Jacob laughed. “I’m just good like that.”
They enjoyed a comfortable silence as they sipped their pints.
“Thank you for, as you said, dragging me out tonight,” Scrooge offered softly. “Especially since I’ve turned down so many of your invitations before now.”
“I’m glad you came,” Jacob grinned. “I figured I’d crack your shell open eventually.”
“Does that make you an otter?” Scrooge teased, realizing as the words left his lips that they were not as clever as intended. “Prying open my shell?”
“That’s one way of putting it,” Jacob laughed, eyes sparkling. “Finish that up,” he tapped the side of the mug, “the night’s still young.”
Scrooge drained his glass obediently, finding himself much more pliant than usually.
“Sounds like you’ve got plans for me.” The corners of his mouth twitched, teasing another grin.
“Oh yes, devious, devious plans. Come on.”
In the same way he had done all night, Scrooge followed.
“It’s a lovely night, don’t you think?” Jacob asked as they emerged back into the night air, the smell of summer a pleasant shift.
“It is. Perhaps we should enjoy it awhile longer. A nice walk perhaps?”
“You read my mind. Anywhere in particular you’d like to go?”
“I’d be willing to explore. Your selections have been sound so far.”
They had a rather lovely walk through backstreets of London and Saint James’ park, even someone as blase as Scrooge couldn’t deny that the dusk was perfectly suited to it. Cooler, but still light enough to see easily. The sun was setting, painting the sky in all sorts of love purples and oranges, a rather lovely canvas if he was to be honest.
They chatted idly, comfortably; Scrooge remarking on gorgeous carriage horses and stubborn birds near under his feet, Jacob pointing out places he liked to frequent and new businesses in the area. Scrooge found himself paying surprisingly little attention to the particulars of their route, not counting his steps nor the streets.
He found himself doubly surprised, than, that they had stopped in front of a confectionery.
“What are we doing here, Jacob?” He asked, not feeling particularly motivated to combine two different vices today.
“I know you’re categorically opposed to enjoying yourself, but it’s perfect weather for ice cream. Come on, it’ll be my treat.”
Against his increasingly weak objections, Scrooge allowed himself to be led into the shop.
His eyes raked across small mountains of sugar, colorful and lacy like fine dresses. All so excessive and unnecessary and worst of all, expensive. But they did smell wonderful, if a bit overpowering.
“Gosh, Ben, you look like you’re about to start drooling. What looks good to you?” Jacob asked, the shop owner also looking at him inquisitively
“I’ll take the orange blossom, thanks,” he replied, feeling somewhat caught out. Jacob placed his own order and paid before making some commentary on the shop’s other offerings. “I’ve been wanting to come here with you,” he added, as he handed Scrooge the dessert, “and what day could possibly be better?”
“I certainly can’t argue,” Scrooge replied as he took a seat at the mercifully clean-looking table, “I’m glad you thought of it.”
And he was. The ice cream was unfortunately rather delicious and Jacob’s company was always superb.
“Want to try some of mine?” Jacob asked, holding the spoon up to Scrooge’s lips. It was honestly troubling how willing he was to be lead today, but he supposed it was just the way of things. Jacob hadn’t steered him wrong yet. Without hesitation, Scrooge swallowed obediently
“Mmmmm.” If his defenses weren’t already lowered, he’d have been ashamed to make such an undeniable sound of please
“Yes, that’s about what I’d hope to hear,” Jacob replied and Scrooge pinked faintly before offering his friend some of his own.
When they finally emerged from their decadence, the sky had grown much darker, just past dusky. They watched a flight of bats take off as they weaved their way back through the park, Scrooge chancing at holding Jacob’s hand in the inky dark. An effort, he found, that was returned enthusiastically.
Before long—far too soon, in fact—they were outside Scrooge’s door and he felt a sudden ache of disappointment. Childish for sure, the stubborn urge to not let the fun end.
“Thank you for a lovely evening,” Scrooge began, and in the safety of his dark street not yet lit by gas-lamps, he felt Jacob’s lips pushing urgently against his own. Full and soft and heavenly as they had been every time before, but now somehow more tender. More gentle. Perhaps that was simply Scrooge’s own fancy. He fumbled to return the kiss, feeling an unpleasant surge of neediness when Jacob finally pulled away.
“Goodnight, Ebenezer,” He nodded with a smirk in his voice, leaving Scrooge with one hand loosely on his doorknob and the taste of sweetness on his lips.

First official post from this blog, you KNOW it has to be about my muse Robin.  Threw together a ficlet of Robin and Demetrius meeting for the first time.  Enjoy!
~*~*~*~
It had been an incredibly long day for Robin.  It was one of those days where every inch of her body ached with exhaustion and all she could think to do was either collapse into bed or drink her troubles away at the saloon.  The prospect of returning home and having to resume the responsibilities of motherhood sounded too daunting to face, so she chose the latter.
When she entered the saloon, she was not at all surprised to find it mostly deserted.  The only people inside were Gus, the bartender; Willy, the local fisherman; and Lewis, the town handyman who was deep in conversation with Mayor Maynard (Robin absolutely could not address that man without bursting into a fit of giggles at his ridiculous name).  She took a seat at a secluded barstool and heaved a weary sigh.
"Long day?" Gus asked with a concerned expression as he approached the counter.
"Incredibly," Robin answered with another sigh.  "I just need a beer."
"You got it," Gus replied with a nod, instantly grabbing an empty beer stein to fill for Robin.
As Robin rested her head on the countertop of the bar, she could hear the door to the saloon open once more.  She didn't bother to look up to see who had entered, it hardly mattered to her at the moment as long as they left her alone.  Robin cringed as she heard the barstool next to her slide across the floor, whoever this was had chosen to take a seat next to her and she was in no mood for socialization.  When she lifted her head to tell them off, she was surprised to see someone whom she had never met before.  Robin was still relatively new to Pelican Town herself, but was sure that she had met everybody in town but this man did not look familiar to her in the least.
"You look like you could use some company," the man said pleasantly as he took a seat next to her.
"I was going for 'I just want to be left alone', but if you insist on sitting next to me anyway, I won't stop you," Robin said rather rudely.  She hadn't meant to snap at the poor man, but she couldn't help the foul mood that she was in.  However, her sour disposition didn't seem to affect this man who still had a big smile on his face.
"Demetrius Bennett," he said pleasantly, holding out his hand.
"Robin Finley," Robin said, taking Demetrius' hand in a handshake.  She had expected a firm handshake from such a tall man with large hands like these, but his handshake was surprisingly tender and delicate.
"Robin Finley," he repeated to himself.  "They say that if you repeat a name immediately after learning it, you're more inclined to remember it.  I've got a lot of names to learn, so I'm trying my best to remember them."
"You new here?" Robin asked conversationally.  If the man was going to insist on keeping her company, she may as well attempt to be cordial.  This attempt was made even easier as Gus set her full beer stein directly in front of her.
"Sort of," Demetrius answered with an uncertain shrug.  “I’ll be visiting Pelican Town every weekend for the foreseeable future.”  Before Robin could question what he meant, Gus turned his attention to Demetrius.
"What'll it be, stranger?" Gus asked jovially.
"I'll just take a water, please," Demetrius said kindly.  Robin let out an unintentional snort of laughter.
"You came into the saloon tonight for a water?" Robin asked, stifling another laugh.
"I didn't intend on staying, I just wanted to poke my head in to meet a few of the locals, but you looked so downtrodden that I wanted to at least see if there was something I could do to lift your spirits," Demetrius explained.
"It'll take a lot more than polite conversation to accomplish that," Robin said darkly.  "But I admire your optimism nonetheless."
For a moment, Robin sipped quietly at her beer as Gus brought Demetrius his glass of water.  As the beer began to relax her, she felt bad that this kind man had made an effort to make conversation with her, she may as well at least attempt to play nice.
"So, what brings you to Pelican Town?" Robin asked awkwardly, taking another sip from her beer.
"I’m here as part of my internship with ZC Labs," Demetrius commented.
“ZC Labs?” Robin asked, raising an eyebrow.
“They’re a research facility based out of Zuzu City,” Demetrius explained.
"What kind of work do you do for them?" Robin asked curiously.  Here in the valley she was used to jobs such as 'farming', 'mining', 'fishing', and the like.  Certainly nothing that involved research of any kind.
"I'm an aspiring scientist," Demetrius answered proudly.  “ZC Labs pays for my college tuition and in return, they’ve stationed me out here in the valley to collect specimens.  It’s an exhausting schedule, I spend Monday thru Friday in Zuzu City for a full course load of classes at ZCU, then I head up to the valley on weekends for my internship work.”
"Why did they station you HERE of all places?!" Robin asked, completely baffled.  She couldn't think of anything at all scientific about Pelican Town and felt bad that this poor man seemed to have drawn the short straw for his internship.
"This area holds an abundance of plant life and wildlife that is relatively unstudied," Demetrius began excitedly.  "The indigenous flowers, plants, and fungi that grow here are full of potential and it's my job to collect samples and send them back to the main research lab in the city.  Once I complete my internship, if they find that there's enough here for further study, I may even get funding for my own laboratory!  I mean, that’s a long ways off, but that’s certainly the dream!"
"So what are you, some kind of nerd?" Robin asked with a chuckle.  Immediately she felt her stomach clench, she hadn't meant to be so rude with him but she couldn't help herself.  Robin was never the best with first impressions.
"If being fascinated by the vibrant and diverse ecosystem in Stardew Valley is nerdy, then I suppose I am," Demetrius responded with an amused smile.
Robin simply chuckled as she took another swig from her beer.  This man was proving to be quite a fascinating individual.
"What do YOU do?" Demetrius asked, tilting his head curiously.
"Well, I'm sort of a mixed bag at the moment," Robin answered awkwardly.  "My main job title is 'Mom', but I'm also a carpenter whenever I can get the work, which isn’t often at the moment.  I'm in the middle of building my dream home up in the mountains but it's been slow going.  I can't turn down the occasional odd job around town plus having an infant at my hip makes it hard."
"Oh!  You have a little one!" Demetrius said in surprise.  Robin sighed, already she regretted bringing up Sebastian.  This was usually the part of the conversation where men got up and walked away as quickly as their two feet could carry them.  She winced as Demetrius shifted in his chair, but was surprised when he didn't get up to leave.
"What's your little one's name, if you don't mind my asking?" Demetrius asked politely.  Robin could have sworn that he seemed legitimately interested in talking to her.
"Sebby," Robin answered, though she quickly flinched at her usage of the nickname she had given him.  "I mean Sebastian."
"Not a very common name," Demetrius commented thoughtfully.
"And 'Demetrius' is?" Robin asked, raising an eyebrow.
"I like uncommon names," Demetrius went on.  "I think they give character.  Sebastian is a very noble sounding name."
"Well he's a little tyrant at the moment," Robin said with a sigh.  "I feel bad dumping him on Caroline at the moment, but I just needed a break from... everything."
"Who's Caroline?" Demetrius asked curiously.  Robin had to remind herself that Demetrius was still brand new and didn't really know anyone.
"She's married to Pierre, the owner of the general store," Robin answered.  "I'm crashing in their spare bedroom until my house is built.  During the day while I'm working, Caroline has been kind enough to watch my son for me.  I don't know how I could have done all of this without her."
"All of what?" Demetrius asked.
"Being a single mom, AND managing a brand new business, AND trying to build myself and my son a home," Robin said wearily, taking another swig from her beer stein.  She felt bad for unloading onto this complete and utter stranger, but it was odd how easy he was to talk to.  She didn't get the usual judgmental stares or pitying looks that typically accompanied her revelation that she was a single working mother.
"That certainly is an impressive feat," Demetrius said with a low, impressed whistle.
"It's exhausting," Robin said shakily, resting her head in her hands.
The exhaustion from even talking about the current state of her life letalone actually living it was taking its toll on Robin and, without meaning to, she could feel tears start to well up in the corners of her eyes.  The exhaustion and stress was starting to make her break but she was damn well not going to fall apart in front of this perfect stranger.  Robin took a deep breath and tried her best to sniff back the tears that had formed in her eyes as she tried to keep the impending mental breakdown at bay.  However, Demetrius immediately noticed her shaky breathing and the trail of tears that trickled down her cheek.
"Hey, hey, it's okay," Demetrius said soothingly, wrapping a comforting arm around her shoulders.  "Just let it out, it's okay."
"This can't be happening right now," Robin said to herself, still trying desperately hard to control the wave of sobs that was fighting to escape her.
"It's okay, I'm here," Demetrius said calmly.
"I don't even KNOW you," Robin said wearily, her shoulders shaking even more as she fought to control herself.
"Does that matter?" Demetrius asked with a friendly smile.  "We don't have to know someone to empathize with them.  If you need a shoulder to cry on, an ear to talk at, or even just an unsuspecting fool to unload on, I'm your man."
At these words, Robin immediately burst into tears, unable to hold it off any longer.  Every eye in the saloon turned to her and Demetrius, but she hardly cared at the moment.  The combination of her stress and exhaustion combined with the sudden, overwhelming kindness that Demetrius had shown her was enough to unleash a wave of sobs the likes of which Robin had never experienced before.  She was thankful that all Demetrius did was sit there silently, his arm still draped around her shoulders as he awkwardly sat at his barstool to allow her to cry.  It was a fair few minutes before Robin was able to settle down and by the time she did, she could tell that she must look like a complete and utter mess.
“I’m so sorry, you must think I’m an absolute crazy person,” Robin uttered through her sniffles.
“I’d be crazy too if I was going through what you’re going through,” Demetrius said compassionately.  He still hadn’t removed his arm from around her shoulders, but it was oddly comforting to feel his presence.
"Where are you staying while you’re in town?” Robin asked, still sniffing back a few rogue tears as she wiped her face on her sleeve.  She was desperate to change the subject to something, anything, that would draw attention away from her breakdown.
“Out at the ranch in Cindersnap Forest,” Demetrius answered.  “Marnie has been kind enough to offer up her spare bedroom when I’m in town so that I can stay close to the forest.  A decent amount of my work will take place there, so it works out well.”
“That’s really nice of her,” Robin commented, the last of her tears finally starting to subdue.
“Yeah, everyone here has been so nice,” Demetrius commented with a smile.
“Until you met me, that is,” Robin replied, chuckling darkly.
An awkward silence passed between them as Robin looked away uncomfortably.  She was mortified by her outburst and felt terrible that poor Demetrius had to watch her go through that.  If he was smart, and he seemed to be, he would no doubt be keeping his distance from her in the future.  When Robin could no longer stand the silence that was passing between them, she picked up her beer stein and chugged the remaining contents of it.  Once empty, she slammed the beer stein onto the counter and grabbed a handful of money from her pocket as she rose from her seat.
“Hey, I’ll grab it,” Demetrius said kindly, holding out a hand to stop her.
“No way, I ruined your night enough, I’m not making you pay for my drink,” Robin said, shaking her head vehemently.
“I’d like to,” Demetrius said kindly.  “If it’ll make your night even the tiniest bit better, I’m happy to do it.”
“What’s your deal?” Robin asked suddenly.  She hadn’t meant to be so blunt, but she couldn’t help it.  This man was a complete mystery to her.  However, Demetrius truly didn’t seem to mind her straightforward, often brash personality.
“I dunno, I guess I just see somebody who could really use some help and I’m gonna do the best I can to provide it,” Demetrius said with a shrug.  “There’s not much I CAN do, but every little bit helps.  If all it takes from me is a handful of money to make your difficult day a little easier, that’s a small price to pay.”
“You’re… you’re something, you know that?” Robin asked, staring at Demetrius with a bewildered expression.  She had never met anyone quite like him before.
Demetrius simply shrugged awkwardly, looking the tiniest bit embarrassed.
“I’ll see you around, Demetrius Bennett,” Robin said with a friendly smile.
“See you around, Robin Finley,” Demetrius said with a small wave toward Robin as she exited the saloon.
As Robin crossed the town square toward Pierre and Caroline’s, she couldn’t help but smile as she thought about the man she had just met.  It was almost certain that after today, she would probably never see him again, but a small part of her hoped in the back of her mind that she could see him at least one more time in the hopes that she could make a better impression the second time around.

Longfic Recs
So, over in fictional_fans, melannen is doing a collaborative set of longfic recs for while we're all staying inside and physically isolated from one another.  Here's my first set of contributions.  Almost all of these are over 50k, and many of the ones who say they're shorter are just the first stories in their series.  But there are a few shorter ones that I couldn't not rec.

"Can't get you citizenship documents," the man muttered, his voice clearer now that it wasn't muffled by the scarf. Poe took a deep breath and forced himself to think. He looked back at his would-be rescuer.
Who was shoving the scarf back from the top his head, revealing a face that Poe knew. That lots of people knew. Kriff, that everyone knew, trillions upon trillions of sapients in the galaxy would recognize that face.
Luke Skywalker—as fresh-faced and young as the day he became the successful destroyer of the Death Star—was standing in front of him.
Fuck.
"Need a land grant to get a moisture farmer licence, can't even get you a travel visa without citizenship documents…Hm," the legend said, sighing. "Yeah. I think we're going to have to get married."

“Pardon?”
“This. Ice cream. I mean, technically it’s a second location, but still the same night. So is this one date or two?”
“One,” Eli says firmly. “If it’s happening within the same three-hour period.”

“So still two dates to go then?” Parson continues.
“I—what?”
“We’ve got a roadie coming up but then we’re home for almost two weeks. When does your semester start?”
“You want to do this again?” Eli asks.
Parson stops idly twirling his spoon.
“You don’t?”
He does, Eli realizes. He really does. Because apparently he actually likes Kent fucking Parson.

Hey, I don't mean to be a bother, but are you gonna add the nightmare squad into the Stein Family AU? It seems like they've been forgotten by most of the fandom, and I am just a curious wolf. Btw, the nightmare squad is just my nickname for Chester, Gaskette, Canoodle, and Dewey.
A’ight so! I have been thinking about this question since I read it two Mondays ago at 6 am, and the game plan had been to draw my answer for you
Tumblr media
So Imma just write my answer instead
Yes.
Yes I will.
Read under the cut to learn moooore
So timeline wise, the toons start popping up at around 1930, but Henry at this point in the timeline wouldn’t be able to create the nightmare dudes until later when he actually knows HOW he’s bringing the toons to life (the main three were easy to unconsciously make for reasons I hope to elaborate on later). He’d probably bring them to life around 1937-’40.
I don’t really know how Gasket would adapt into the studio since the toons are still a secret to the outside world and the studio in the Stein Family au is not as wide and maze-like. Gasket just doesn’t have the space to drive around the place unless he shrinks to the size of a toy car (toons can shrink or grow at will, but how well/long they can hold an off-model size is largely tied to their emotions and whatever gag/situation they’re in at the moment).
If anyone has suggestions for him, I’m all ears.
Dewey takes a real shining to Linda (she is kind, intelligent, and diligent in any work she takes on, and she’s a good Toon Mom), so he likes to spend time with her during and off of work hours. Since she manages the business part of the animation company, Dewey likes to help her keep stuff organized. Paperwork, scheduling, tracking resources, stuff like that, he’s clever with, and when Linda doesn’t have work he can help her with, Grant welcomes Dewey’s sharp eye for numbers just as much. He likes the quiet spaces in the studio, so if he’s not being a busy body, he’s probably chillaxing somewhere crowd-free with a good book in his hands (what a mood, my dude).
Chester has pretty much become the studio’s walking lost and found station. If an employee has lost something, there’s a 99.99% chance that Chester has it (though whether he took the item or he found it while looking for lost items is up for debate). He has no problem putting the concerned employee’s mind at ease about whether or not he has their lost item, but the likelihood of said employee getting their thing back is entirely dependent on two questions: (1) how shiny or valuable was the item you’d lost? and (2) can you find Henry or Linda before Chester finds a hiding place to camp out in for the rest of the week?
He thinks he’s doing right by making sure the lost thing will never get lost again, but the truth is, you’re probably never gonna see that thing again if you don’t act fast.
He is a treasure chest. What else might you expect from him?
If all else fails, call Bendy and he’ll happily steal back whatever Chester has stolen – given you pay him a 5 cents.
Chester also keeps all kinds of important stuff for the Steins such as the deed to the studio, some family heirlooms, and Linda’s jewelry.
Canoodle ngl had also eluded me for a while. I feel like he and Wally would get along real well. Canoodle is a pretty serious dude from what I can tell, and Wally’s basically an immature kid, so it makes for a nice straight man-goofball duo that turns into basically those cartoon bits where a toon gets into shenanigans while trying to babysit a kid while there are death traps at every corner.
With Canoodle apparently running a dump in the cartoons and Wally being a janitor, Canoodle helps out Wally while he cleans and does maintenance around the studio. They’re surprisingly effective cleaners, but when it comes to replacing a lightbulb, well…
Thomas has made an effort to teach Canoodle and Wally the proper way to do tasks like that so Henry doesn’t have to call him in as much, but one of them’s prone to slapstick shenanigans and the other is Canoodle, a toon. Watching them fix shit, either together or solo, stresses Thomas out.
By the time the nightmare squad joins the family, Henry and Linda have raised Bendy long enough that he knows better than to push his luck too far when ticking the guys off. But Bendy will be Bendy, so they are not completely free of him and his pranks. However, the slapstick stays underneath the basically-a-homicide radar, and the throwing of axes and bricks stay at a minimum for the safety of the studio employees.
Sooooo.
Yeah :)
