Adrien is Marinette's Therapist, NOT her Boyfriend and it's Gross

Mental health struggles are no joke and, if you have those struggles, then you absolutely need a partner who will support you through them. That's why, at face value, Adrien supporting Marinette with her PTSD and anxiety is very sweet. It's what a good boyfriend should do. The problem is that Adrien is being written like her therapist, not her boyfriend.

Adrien has his own struggles with depression, loss, and paternal neglect. Yet none of these struggles are brought up once Adrien and Marinette get together. Instead, the relationship is all about her needs and struggles even though this season ends with Gabriel's take down, meaning that focusing on Adrien's issues would have made more sense from a narrative perspective. How much more powerful would the final have been if Marinette really understood Adrien, Emilie, and Gabriel's relationship?

But why do that when we can make everything about Adrienette instead? Why bother to mention Emilie when Marinette is a much better point of conflict between Adrien and Gabriel? After all, if we did that, then Adrien would have a life outside of Marinette and that would be, well, sigh, let's get into it, shall we?

In Derision, we learn that Marinette apparently doesn't have some form of anxiety or ADHD or any of the other things that people have theorized over the years. No, vanilla-Marinette is a totally relaxed, go-with-the-flow non-planner who only started planning after Chloe, Sabrina, and Kim gave her PTSD. Does this insult her character and make no sense? Yes, but let's not get into that. Let's just accept the retcon and look at the fallout of Adrien knowing that his new girlfriend has massive trauma that's mainly focused on romance and controlling situations.

The very next episode is Intuition. In it we see Marinette calling Adrien to show off her ability to do things without planning (or, at least, with less planning) and it's clear from context that this is an exercise that they're doing:

Adrien: Well... (his phone rings) Fancy that! Marinette! I like spending time with Marinette. (picks up his phone) Marinette: (on-call) Guess what I'm calling for: nothing! Can you believe it? I'm calling you randomly, totally out of the blue, for no reason at all! Adrien: So you didn't write down everything you might need to say to me based on everything I might say to you? Marinette: Not at all! Well... I did. I really tried not to, you know, but it was too hard! Anyhow, I limited myself to fourteen possible conversations, including this one! Adrien: Congratulations! Marinette: (on-call) Thank you! Adrien: And did you prepare questions for science class? Marinette: (on-call) Not-a-one! Not even for the live video conference we're doing with Max's mom on the super awesome Tsurugi space jet! I, Marinette, will improvise questions, unpredictably, without planning anything!

In the context of the show, this conversation is deeply concerning and I don't know wtf the writers think they're doing. There is no way in hell that a 14-year-old should be guiding his girlfriend through a therapy session or therapy exercise unless he has the guidance and approval of a trained mental health professional.

Seriously look at what Adrien is doing in this dialogue: Marinette tells him that she's called him without planning and he doesn't just say "that's great!" Instead, he asks if that's true, congratulates her for her mild improvement, and then prompts her to talk about another situation where she would plan things out. In other words, he's asking about the therapy homework that he's clearly given her or that they've decided on together. It's also clear that this isn't their first discussion on the topic because he's very comfortable knowing what to ask about to see if she's done her homework right.

Why was this homework chosen? Who knows! It certainly wasn't picked by someone with training! A therapist wouldn't tell you to avoid planning for a school assignment (something that we've never seen Marinette overplan before, but once again, we're ignoring the retcon). This scene would arguably be inappropriate for an established adult relationship, but a nascent teenage one? Absolutely not.

My SO and I have both done therapy and seen wildly unbalanced relationships. This conversation threw massive red flags for us on both fronts. This is not what a healthy relationship looks like. This is not a give and take. This is why you need a therapist to at least guide you through this type of situation or you will set yourself up in roles where person A is not getting their needs met because the relationship has an established dynamic where person A is the giver and person B is the taker.

This is especially true for a young relationship that's just getting its feet off of the ground. They're supposed to be in the honeymoon phase! More established relationships are better able to handle phases where one person needs more support than the other which absolutely happens and is totally normal. However, when those things happen, it's vital for the supporting partner to have their own support since they can't get it from their partner.

Miraculous denies Adrien this suport. In the very next episode, we get this:

Adrien: I've always seen Marinette acting funny in my presence. I thought that was just the way she was. I thought it was sweet. I thought it was just her charm. But now that I know it's because she loves me and she freaks out about telling me, I feel bad. Because it means that this whole time she's been uncomfortable around me, and I haven't done anything to help her. Kagami: But you didn't know. Adrien: It doesn't take away from her suffering. I just wish she could feel more at ease when she's with me. Otherwise, one day, it'll be too late and she'll give up. Kagami: What can I do to help, Adrien? Adrien: Thanks, but it's not up to you or anyone else to help. I'm the one who's gotta do something.

No! Adrien, you are not equipped to deal with this solo. Ask Kagami to help! Ask Alya to help! Ask Marinette's parents to help! There are times when it's okay to involve others in your relationship and this is one of those times! This isn't even a relationship issue! It's a mental health issue! I know we're flipping gender roles here, but it's not somehow cute or healthy just because a guy is trying to "fix" the girl for once. No one should try to take on that task. This is what therapy is for.

If therapy is not an option for financial or other reasons, then yes, sometimes you have to struggle through and loved ones can help, but in TV land? Especially aimed-at-kids TV land? Show the ideal scenario! At the very least, show a support network! And I mean actual support, not Kagami asking to help and Adrien shooting her down! Writers, you are making Gabriel's dislike of Marinette valid! You are making it so that she is dragging Adrien down! Stop doing that!

Adrien deserves love and support, too. Adrien deserves to be romanced. Adrien deserves more than a kiss and an "I love you" that he had to fight to hear! He never even gets one of the presents from Marinette's chest. She did more to woo him before they got together and it's such pathetic writing.

The fun of getting these two together is letting them do all the stuff they've always wanted to do! Let Marinette bring him macrons! Let him bring her roses! Let her enhance his wardrobe! Let him write her poems! Let them be a healthy, balanced, sickeningly-cute couple! It's fine if she's nervous at the start and takes a while to act normal, but this show takes it to a level beyond teenage jitters and it's not funny or cute. It's concerning.

All of these issues start with Derision's romance-based-PTSD retcon and it was the worst thing they could have done for the Love Square. It poisons the rest of the season and is why I just can't ship these two in canon even though I love what they could have been. They have established such a horrifically unhealthy dynamic that I can't see this ending well unless they get couple's therapy in the very near future and that's not even touching on the baggage that will come from the lies and still unresolved Ladynoir trauma.

As soon as Marinette has romance-based PTSD, she was incapable of being in a relationship until after she'd learned to manage her PTSD. (PTSD cannot be cured, btw, you just learn how to manage it and the symptoms can lessen.) The writers apparently knew that. It's why they gave her a therapist to support her as she worked through her issues and got to the point where she can say "I love you". His name is Adrien. Isn't he cute?

i was thinking about reborn au & the iwa chunin exams and i..... genuinely do not know what tori can actually do?? cut also contains me whining about timing of events

okay, so my timeline:

i usually do everything timeline-wise relevant to team 7's age, so: itachi is ~5 years older than sasuke, which makes tori ~4 years older. i headcanon the hyuuga affair as being part of the end of the third shinobi war, so tori would be ~7 when that happened.

the ame trio prevent a lot of fighting happening in rain country, so sound is actually a lot worse off than the original timeline (although tori... doesn't know this). her adoptive clan is having SEVERE supply issues so she doesn't actually get much instruction with anything metal until orochimaru officially unites the sound country clans into oto. i'm debating the effect of ame not being the stage for war having the effect of making it last longer, so tori is anywhere from 8 to 10 when suddenly she's part of oto

i'm not sure what orochimaru implements in terms of training? the Vibe i was going for is that he wants to improve childhood training because his next move is going to be icing out (or murdering) the adults bc he wants a hoard of shinobi who are 100% loyal to him. idk, maybe he unites them before the end of the war and sends a lot of adults to their deaths. so tori might have actual instruction from like 7-8?

i don't think tori actually LIKES most training. she doesn't super care about being a badass; she wants to research how chakra works and make a lot of insane seals to test her theories. so she taps out of training whenever she can in oto, which becomes increasingly often as she's given more independence as a researcher.

i think orochimaru would base any training program on the konoha academy curriculum, so tori definitely knows the basic 3 jutsu. since she spends all her time thinking about chakra, i think i'll let her have pretty good instincts on how to mold chakra. she rarely struggles to learn ninjutsu, but she doesn't have a ton of chakra and she doesn't have a lot of motivation or teachers available. no one's formally taught her treewalking bc anything beyond the basic training in oto is sort of chaotic and she doesn't have a built in family structure to learn it from, so she's self-taught (she self-taught wrong LMAO) and also she didn't really bother with it until she fled oto. i'm going to let her know some techniques which are TECHNICALLY medical but she learned from orochimaru to do surgery in the name of science. she doesn't like using them in combat because they're..... messy

i think orochimaru is the type to make children fight each other. tori relies a lot of children just being kind of stupid rather than any actual combat skills, but as she gets older this strategy works less well. her taijutsu is therefore....... iffy. for weapons she's most competent with a staff (from the ol' bamboo pole days) but she doesn't like it bc it's very Sound Country(tm) and she doesn't really identify as an Oto-nin. her aim with a kunai is... okay?

With Team 4, I think Kushina really quickly is like "okay, so this team is about making sure tori can hit someone properly (and me teaching this one transport seal to her for the mission)" and tori just doesn't think this is very fair. why aren't you teaching her MORE seals, instead? They only get ~3 months so i don't think she makes insane progress, but she gets better!!

tori's fighting style is very "i will seem harmless until very suddenly I Am Not" so she gets kind of into trying to come up with a technique that gives her a one-hit kill. for this she turns to misapplied medical jutsu and kushina is just like "wow, horrifying, keep it up."

(fuinjutsu is actually pretty tricky to incorporate into active combat, because even if you have pre-made seals, it'll take you a hot second to active them, which is often a hot second too many)

tori's skills are all over the place in a way that seems completely illogical unless you ARE her, and also her measuring stick is Akatsuki, so tori is like "oh yeah, no, i think the average genin could obliterate me?" but the SECOND she realizes that winning her first tournament match means she'll fight itachi, she's like "actually i am going to dedicate my whole month of training to that fight" with the assumption she'll just win against unknown genin #2. whatever, tori knows what a real threat looks like

(also, a WEIRD part of the team 4 dynamic from an outsider's POV is that itachi and deidara don't, like.... disrespect tori? yeah her taijutsu is horrific but also she's INCREDIBLY skilled in a handful of other areas and they're acutely aware of this, but like. they shouldn't be LMAO)

anyway, i want them to run into sasori on a mission, and ORIGINALLY i was going to make this their one c-rank pre-exam. but also i think the exam is the turning point for minakushi to be like "ONE OF US" wrt deidara & tori, and i think "buddies with sasori????" would uuuuh not fly (at least with mianto) until after this turning point. so my new concept for their pre-exam c-rank is they run into chump shinobi and kushina is like "NO TORI HAS TO FIGHT THEM" even though literally any other member of team 4 could win in their sleep. she believes in you, tori!!!

so i think the sasori mission happens post exam? i'm not 100% sure how team 4 functions post-exam. it seems like kind of a waste to have itachi & deidara running c-ranks (esp itachi since he already has a record with konoha), but maybe minato is like "hey buddy..... so upon reflection and reviewing a lot of your files, maybe you should have friends your age??" so then the Point of Team 4 becomes integrating tori & deidara into konoha, and they take progressively more insane missions. the missions get more insane & less frequent as they figure out their own paths. itachi steadily starts getting tapped for ANBU again and tori starts rotating in R&D and gets strong armed into field medic training. i think deidara..... would also go into R&D, because his art is technically jutsu development. this is the funniest thing that's ever happened to tori

tori STILL doesn't like training but she has to log a certain number of hours to maintain her status as an active shinobi and her main sparring partners are like. insane s-rank people. so.............

I want to talk about some books I've read recently, "Penric's Travels" and "Penric's Labor" by Lois McMaster Bujold.

First, that author is always a treat. When I saw those books by her at the library, ones I hadn't read before, I didn't even bother to check the back cover for their description; I knew I'd enjoy them, simply based on the author. And I was correct. (Also it turns out that the back cover didn't really give any useful information about the stories therein, so it wouldn't have mattered.)

I don't know how to best describe what I like about how she writes, but I'll try. Her stuff is very character-driven, with… it's not right to say "low stakes", because the stakes are very high indeed when you care about the characters things might happen to, but it doesn't have the super-high stakes you normally see in fantasy or science fiction. The characters and the relationships feel mature; the three main couples I can most remember offhand, from three different series set in three different 'verses, one half of the couple had been a widow/er, and the other half had had previous relationships of their own. (The Vorkosigan saga does admittedly start with a "young male protagonist", but it follows him as he matures.) And she's very adept at worldbuilding, which is honestly my favourite thing in SFF. If this sounds like the kind of thing you want to read, I recommend checking out her work.

Now, the specific books I mentioned at the start. They're more properly collections of three novellas each, written so they could be read in any order; which is good, because my library didn't have on the shelf the book which collected the earlier ones. Each novella is like 100-200 pages long, which might be a benefit over a novel-length story because it provides an obvious stopping point with a resolution for what's happened. Those books also include a 'reading order' at the end, for pretty much everything the author has ever written; I of course hadn't followed that, having gone by the time-honoured method of "whichever book I could get my paws on first", but if that's not how you do things, that guide might be of interest to you.

Finally, the reason I wanted to talk about these books (stories, more properly) specifically, and it's that the magic system is almost everything I've ever wanted in fiction; and it's so perfectly worked in with the religion/theology of that world, which itself is done way better than I normally see in fantasy. (Which, I suppose I hadn't mentioned it earlier; these stories are in the fantasy genre.) There is a REASON why somebody can't kill using magic; or, to be more accurate, they can do it, once. There's magical healing which isn't just "it's magic", but requires knowing what you're doing with each structure, and sometimes things just can't be healed. And there's the converse as well, using that same "healing magic" offensively; but with greater creativity than "burst someone's heart", since it must not be used to kill; the titular character's main method of disabling an assailant is "temporarily shut down the relevant nerves, very carefully". There's a cost for magic, in both "disorder" and "friction". It's just really good.

I won't try to give a comprehensive list of content warnings. However, I will say that if you're sensitive to "healthcare worker's burnout", you should avoid the novella "The Physicians of Vilnoc" entirely, as that's a major element in that story. (Also in the main character's backstory, but I don't know if there's a story which goes into depth with that.)

Eversince you became Spider-Man, you began your relationship with Curt Connors, who is known as, "The Lizard". Your boyfriend Curt Connors has been helping you with any problems you come across, especially problems that require science and the problems that you require comfort from him on. However one day, you came into the home the both of you share together, and it seems like you had a bad (day or night) with fighting crime.

When Curt first saw you, since coming in the home the both of you share together, he knew something was bothering you, so he asked, "What's wrong? What's bothering you, (Male Reader Name)?", then continued, "You know I will do my best to be there for you with your bad day...". You then snapped, "You really want to know what's bothering me, Curt?! I can't do anything right with fighting crime today! This villain is hard for me to defeat! I don't know how I became a hero, in the first place! This villain would have been easier for any hero to defeat, especially easier for you! I'm not cut out to be a super hero!".

Curt was shocked about everything you just said, so he replied, "Is this what you really believe, (Male Reader Name)?! I think you're wrong about something! I'm sure other heroes, especially I would have a hard time fighting the villain you were talking about! I'm, so disappointed in you for hearing you say that! You should should be grateful you have any opportunity to fight crime at all, (Male Reader Name)! If this is how you feel, then don't talk to me until you gather your barrings! Seriously, you need to cool off!". As Curt was heading to the bedroom the both of you share together, you replied back, "Wait, Curt... I'm sorry... I shouldn't have snapped at you... I'm sorry for how I was acting just now... I just wasn't sure what else to do and I was worried you would break up with me, if you were to see me as useless because I couldn't capture the villain all by myself...". Curt had to think about your apology and why you snapped at him, so he went to comfort you, by hugging you and saying, "You're never useless to me, (Male Reader Name)... I'm sure everyone needs some form of help from time to time... It's actually impossible for anyone to do anything by themselves, you know... So, I won't leave you over you not being able to capture the villain you mentioned about fighting... That would be a mistake to leave you for such petty reason... And I forgive you, (Male Reader Name)...", as he started to pet your head. You then hugged him, sobbing on his shoulders, as Curt cooed, "It's okay, (Male Reader Name)... Let it out if you feel the need to... There's nothing wrong with letting it out..."

Once you stopped sobbing and Curt finished comforting you, he decided to set up for the both of you the have movie time together after a short argument and an understanding. While the both of you were snuggling and watching a movie together, the both of had (hot beverage of reader's choice) and plenty of popcorn to share together. The both of you figured there's nothing better than to eat popcorn, drinking (hot beverage of reader's choice), and snuggling together, while watching a movie together after a rough (day or night). After the both of you finished drinking (hot beverage of reader's choice), you feel asleep into Curt Connors' arms, then he feel asleep while you were in his arms. The both of you continued to snuggle fast asleep in harmony.

“What Went Missing” and “Things Lost and Found” unholy fusion.

You should probably read them both to understand everything, but tldr: Colress does some mind control

With guest appearances of my friends from discord! Including the author of “What Went Missing” herself- @the-digital-pen !

Emmet gets mind controlled, while in a separate universe Akari also gets mind controlled. But uh oh! Turns out Akari got sent to the incorrect future. Thankfully, benevolent Arceus sets her right…. While accidentally sending Colress with her. Now there’s two Colress’s with two brainwashed trainers and yup. The Colress’s are pretty jazzed about having someone to match their intellect and compare notes to each other.

Anyway, the two mind controlled trainers fixes one major problem in Colress #2’s plan- the fact he has to take care of a sniveling brat. It’s so easy! Just a bit of rewiring and there! Now she thinks Emmet is her dad. Emmet is given the vague task of “take care of her” when he’s not doing other stuff and now their hands are free to do science in peace.

And now Emmet has to to “take care of” a kid.

Of course, behind all the mind control, Emmet is a good human being so “take care of her” means things like: make sure she’s getting three meals a day, give the child physical affection, tell the child that she is loved, ask about how the child is doing, etc etc. He’s still super out of it and mostly going through the motions, but Akari is literally programmed not to notice and is pretty okay with this.

Other fun things include: because of the fact she calls him Dad, Emmet has slowly been internalizing that since it aligns with the orders he has been given. As far as his staticky brain is concerned he is both a shadow and her dad. not Emmet of course He also doesn’t know her name because no one bothered to tell him (the Colress’s just call her “the child” so he also calls her “the child”) (which slowly shifts to “my child” over time)

He also is getting pretty close to her subconsciously, the little bits of Emmet that are still in there are slowly growing to love his daughter verrrrry much. which makes it difficult when she starts to loose herself over time, both the part of him that cares and the “take care of her” part of him being lowkey distressed about her decline

(Also, imagine Emmet being ordered to hurt/kill her and has a psychotic break where he just crumples)

In the end Ingo would obviously get them out like in Pen’s fic- but now there’s an extra layer of Emmet’s early recovery days just constantly asking after his daughter (he keeps getting out of his hospital bed to find her and they usually have to transfer her over to his bed to get him to stay down)

Also, poor Ingo. Both his brother and daughter are mentally destroyed- and both are under the impression that Emmet is Akari’s dad. And while he’s glad Emmet was taking care of her, he definitely has complicated feelings about the replacement. And Emmet has to have the same crisis when he recovers enough to realize that his kid isn’t actually his

Also, I imagine in the relatively early days Akari releases all their Pokémon when they sleep and Emmet let’s her because that’s not breaking any orders, so they sleep in a big fluff pile that probably helps the mental well being of Emmet’s poor pokemon

For extra angst points consider: Emmet recovers a bit faster then Akari so he gets to be conscious while his (daughter?? Niece???) is completely out of it mentally

Extra extra angst: even after things get better Akari’s brain was so screwed up she legitimately can never tell them apart- even when they where different clothes. So they’re both just Dad to her- the nebulous entity that is both Ingo and Emmet

Emmet: looking for my child

Colress (kinda thrown about the MY part): uh… okay. Why?

Emmet: it is dinner time. She need to eat dinner

Emmet then precedes to sit in his room staring at a wall for six hours as he waits for his daughter to get home

Drayden: he only responds to either shadow or Dad. We chose the lesser of two evils

Emmet, who was checked into the hospital yesterday and just woke up for the first time: where’s my child it’s dinner time

Five nurses and Ingo trying to hold him down: Sir please

Nurse: you need to lay down

Emmet: where is my child teenagers need sleep

Nurse, sobbing: please

Someone grabs Akari from her own hospital bed and puts her on his and THEN he stays down

Emmet keeps getting up in the middle of the night because Akari told him she doesn’t like sleeping alone- hence why they sleep together in a giant Pokémon cuddle pile

Even when they’re in the same room the nurses have to pry him out of Akari’s hospital bed every morning

Thank you nonnie! This has been a long time coming, and Im sorry its taken so long to answer this~ I'm doing much better now, and feel a little more motivated to write and answer asks again!

B = Breath(What could their s/o do to take their breath away?)

Being overly romantic is one way to make her freeze up like a deer in headlights and for her lungs to start fighting against her. Like grabbing her hand, spinning her around, and dancing with her. Or even dipping her while looking her directing in her eyes. Even just direct eye contact can make Chihiro stop breathing for a second, her cheeks flaring up in a blaze. But what makes it even worse (funnier) is that she doesn't even know why her lungs are freezing up on her!

Team 7 is playing on the beach, and MC is just floating in the water like a piece of debris. Chihiro peers at them and sees their hair spread out like a halo around them with such a serene expression on their face. She thinks that they look so... peaceful (beautiful). Cue Hanabi Sensei looking on with a knowing smile and a soft look in her eyes.

I = Intimacy(How romantic are they? Do they have problems with intimacy?)

Unfortunately, Chihiro isn't romantic at all. She's too awkward and unsure of herself in this department that every gesture she tries to make fails miserably. If she tries to gather flowers for MC, she gets ones they are allergic to. Chihiro tries to make dinner for MC? She's accidentally giving them food poisoning 💀💀. It's only when she's unintentional, and doing something completely oblivious, that she makes the most romantic gestures. When talking about MC, they always affectionately refer to them as their wife/husband/partner—or listening to MC talk while staring at them with such love in their eyes. She's down bad and doesn't even realize it 🥴🥴

Chihiro has no problem showing intimacy; she's done it all her life when you guys were just friends. Sitting with you on the docks or just taking naps with you, she loves feeling safe with you. Now in terms of emotional availability. There's nothing she has a problem sharing or even telling you about; emotions, feelings, what bothers her etc.,

Ooof 🥴🥴 I gotta explain this in detail y'all! Now when MC and Chihiro get together, they'll be her first EVER everything. All she's ever done is train, study the principles of Taoism, and study regular ninja scrolls. When you finally have your 1st kiss, it's sloppy, with too many teeth and drool, but what she lacks in experience, she makes up for in earnest. After a while, she gets it down to a science, but there are times when she's still a sloppy kisser, i.e., when she's too excited, or she's in the throws of passion, etc.,

Now she's always finding a reason to give you kisses. She'll leave pecks on your cheeks and lips. Giving you forehead kisses when you've done something that you're super proud of. Any reason at all and she's placing her lips on you proudly.

P =Playful(Are they playful in a relationship? If so, how do they play around/mess with their s/o?)

Absolutely, completely playful 🤸🏼‍♀️🤸🏼‍♀️🤸🏼‍♀️ definitely plays too much actually. Chihiro likes to hide and jump out places that MC would least expect. Giving them the big scare, and laughing like a lunatic. Once MC calms down shes giving them little kisses to apologize. She'll also love to wrestle and rough house with MC. She's pretty much a tomboy.

Tell us about Chenguang and Bell! What are their hobbies? Best school subjects? favorite game to either play with friends or rope their adult figures into?

Hobbies

Chenguang had something of a reputation at her daycare, because she was the kid who wanted to do everything. And that stays with her through most of her childhood. She’s a very active kid, though, so gradually she starts to shift towards more physical activities, but she’s undecided which one she wants to go for.

She’s that kid on the playground who starts screaming and running as soon as her feet touch the ground, and 9 times out of 10 she’s going to see something cool and then take off to investigate it. Her ‘explorer’ games have led her off school grounds multiple times…

Which nicely segues into her school subjects…

And of course, when she’s old enough to reach the knobs on the stove without a stool, she learns to cook. It’s a great way for her to relax.

Bell on the other hand is more delicate and quiet. She’s the kid who likes tea ceremony, paper dolls, and sketching. She’s very good at sitting quietly with those tasks, to the point where a lot of the time adults forget she’s even in the room.

As she grows older she starts to get a taste for historical dramas; initially interested in the fashions and the royals, she sloooowly starts to get invested in the political intrigue, chiming in with her own ideas of what the emperor ought to do and why this alliance would be better in the long term.

School

…Chenguang’s best subjects are, without question, Sports and Natural Science. She’s one of her class’s best runners, and she loves learning about animals, bugs, plants, etc.

Chenguang loves learning in general though, it’s hard to find a subject she doesn’t just latch onto and devour.

You might think this means she has trouble sitting still, but surprisingly not.

Bell, as it turns out, loves science as well. When Syntax had to sit for her, she’d often watch him work, and since she didn’t bother him and let him finish quickly (and because okay, darn it, the little bug is growing on him), he would usually be like “Okay, now that that’s finished… Do you want to learn how volcanoes work?”

And that’s how Huntsman found them going all ���mad scientist’ over a tinfoil volcano with baking soda and red dye, Syntax asking “Okay, now how did this happen?” “The baking soda and the vinegar react when combined, because…!”

(And if you don’t think Syntax isn’t a little bit smug about how Bell prefers what he can teach her, you’re wrong.)

Bell also gets super into history, and as she grows older, forms an interest in fashion design.

Favorite Games/Activity

Chenguang can and will rope you into her pretend games about exploring a new land or traveling to fight a legendary monster. No, that’s no ice cream truck, that’s an ice cream monster, we gotta catch it!

She also will rope adults into hide-and-seek… by not telling them she’s playing, simply hiding somewhere and waiting to be found. It’s caused numerous moments of panic.

Bell will drag people into tea parties.

Huntsman is frustrated by this the first time he’s made to do it but perks up considerably when the kid lowers her teacup, adjusts her paper crown, and declares in her best Princess Voice “I have a problem with the Centipede Kingdom and need your advice.”

When she gets older and discovers her interest in fashion, she makes everyone stand still so she can measure them and figure out some new clothes. This is gently indulged until it turns out that no, she actually made something really good, then it’s like “....holy shit.”

I usually write in my journal but I've been overthinking too much about my handwriting and at least here I don't need to worry about my handwriting. Another upside to just writing here, it's easy and convenient and I'm always on my laptop. I really want to document every day of my life so I can look back and see what was happening. I hate that I don't commit to writing every day because there are so many memories I forgot about. Even writing about the little things are essential, my mood, what I did in the day, the progresses of my relationships with people, etc. Today I woke up and went to the university to work on my presentation. We're going to present it next Monday and although I am super nervous I think it will be great for me to work on my confidence, and it's only 10 mins so it can't be too bad. I just finished watching the new episode of Power, right now I'm more interested in Monet's storyline than Tariq. The whole Lauren situation is such a bore to me and I can't be bothered with it. Obviously, Tariq is going to love her, but she is not right for him, she doesn't suit his lifestyle. He is a drug dealer at the end of the day and she is just a good rich student. Lorenzo is also dead and I don't get why they keep killing people off, I think it would have been interesting to see Monet and Lorenzo's relationship drift apart alongside the kids but the writers have robbed us of that. Now we're just going to see Cane take over his pops. Tomorrow I'm taking Alv to the cinema to watch the Super Mario movie, which I'm excited about for her and hope she enjoys even though she doesn't know too much about it. I'm sure she will be obsessed with Princess Peach by the end of it. I had really bad anxiety before but it's all gone now which I'm happy about. I started to read YOU again and have made it my mission this year to get through all 4 books. Caroline has released the 4th book yesterday and it came in the post today. It did come damaged which is also irritating my brain. I just hope after all my assignments are finished I can finally get into reading again, I feel so shit that I bought that short storybook about witches and never finished it, but I will finish it after I've completed the You series. Right now I am feeling okay, just happy I'm able to write and need to think of some goals to do this year. I need to book my theory again I know I have definitely given up after I failed but ill put more mind to it once my dissertation is complete. I also have that stupid essay for Sports Science which is another cursed Literature Review. Anyway i need to be positive as i am a powerful human being and everything i say will speak into existence. I haven't been manifesting in a long time, and i need to. I constantly get over fixtaed on something and just forget it about it forever, like last week i went gym EVERYDAY and this week? Not even once. Anyway that's why we have a new day everyday and its another chance to better myself. Maybe i can start gym next week when I'm feeling motivated too. Gonna go back to watching Love is Blind and try and sleep.

Personally I think the reason why I'm so bothered about my jawline is the associations. I've got lip incompetence too and I think it both of those things combined make me look like the sterotype of an idiot. I'm fine with being ugly, but looking dumb? That's much harder.

Also w/ your post about being nurturing. I'm the same way. I'm super socially awkward, not really good at talking to people at first. It gets better the more I know someone though. I have a friend that has tons and tons of trauma so I've comforted her a lot and I always struggle with what to say or do no matter how much compassion I feel for her in the moment. Yet at the same time, I've been called compassionate and praised for my ability to comfort people? I have decided to get a degree in social work despite everything about me and everyone told me I would be a great social worker because how good I am at comforting people. If you figure it out, please share with me.

Also x2, are we the same person? I have no solutions to your problems (I wish I did. I can only commiserate) but everything you wrote I could have written. I too struggle with motivation to eat. Most of the time I don't even feel hunger anymore, I know I have to eat when I feel weak and dizzy. I've been forcing myself to eat at least 2 meals a day, but I can not eat for days and still not feel hungry. I have read hunger cues will disappear if you keep not responding to them, but it feels impossible sometimes to make it work. I don't even understand people who can just eat 3 times a day just effortlessly, without even thinking about it.

oh wow i’ve never even thought about that aspect, of “looking dumb.” if it makes you feel better, i don’t think the thought has ever crossed my mind upon looking someone that they look unintelligent. but i get it, for me growing up i was a “mouthbreather” (because of allergies), and even though i don’t breathe through my mouth anymore i hate that my jaw will always look like that, it’s just an “unhealthy” kind of appearance that i have to accept. it’s like an annoying exercise of like telling myself “even if people get that impression from xyz in my appearance i have worth as a person regardless and equating health/intelligence/attractiveness with self worth is eugenics thinking”… while at the same time not fully believing it myself.

as for navigating empathy and comforting others, that is exactly my experience as well my therapist has even said that i am very good at interpreting people, mediating conflict, not being driven by emotionality but being able to intuit other peoples’ emotional states, etc. which would make me good in that kind of role. but i know i’d also be terrified because it’s so high stakes, and what if i fail someone? or miss the mark because it doesn’t come naturally to me? i did just read an article though written by someone who has volunteered for years with suicide hotlines, and what surprised me so much about his account was how wooden and poorly his early calls went, but how he had a supervisor and continuing training and he improved at it over time, and there was a LOT “scripted” because the training is very specific, there’s some “science” behind what phrases and wording and types of responses are best. and it made me realize, it does more net good to be there for someone and try than to not do it at all. like i might figure out i’m not suited for it but i decided i’m going to start relatively smaller compared to an in-person position and sign up for RAINN’s rape crisis text hotline when they open applications next.

Honestly...good for his self esteem. The sketches are definitely surprising to him, he wasn’t expecting them and he supposes it’s a way of reminding him why he shouldn’t go nosing around in your belongings. He’s definitely flustered but you must think rather highly of him to draw these...and looking at himself through your eyes, he can see himself more positively.

Still very flustered though. You drew these...adding all those details. Yeah, he’s extra thankful for the mask right now because he’s blushing. When you catch him with your sketchbook in hand, he’s even more flustered, and very apologetic. Will blush every time he sees those sketchbooks.

Michael Myers 

That usual stoic expression as he presents you with them. He places the open book down in front of you, lewd sketches of himself on the pages. You look up at him with wide eyes, unable to tell what he was thinking or feeling, as usual. He just looks between you and the pages, like he wanted an explanation. So you gave him one, even if you stuttered once or twice.

Silently teases you about it. He is admittedly curious about the images but more amused by your reaction. He doesn’t need to speak to tease you. Hiding the sketchbooks so that you have to ask him for them, randomly placing one of your drawings in front of you, sometimes you even know what he’s thinking just from the way he’s looking at you. And he never fails to get a reaction from you.

Jason Voorhees

Feels like he shouldn’t be looking at these. Even though they’re of him...he feels like they’re private to you. He’s certainly flustered and even more so if you catch him. He won’t approach you about it, that’s all your business, but he isn’t going to hold it against you either. Just maybe blush a bit whenever he sees you for a little while.

It’s a little...freeing. If he had stumbled across these when you first got together, he would be freaked out and probably distanced himself from you for a long time. But now, now that you already have an intimate relationship, that you’re close and you trust each other. It’s actually a little freeing because it’s all the more convincing that all of this is nothing to be ashamed off, something that you’re still trying to help him with.

Brahms Heelshire

Super smug. Look at how good he looks in these! You must really like him and must be really attracted to him to make and keep all of these. He’ll have them spread out around him as he examines each other. He didn’t realise you thought so much about his nude body, he’s going to have to bring this up to you! He has plenty of compliments, not really stopping if you’re flustered by his discovery.

Could you, maybe...do some of yourself? These are nice and everything, very flattering, but he would much prefer having some lewd sketches of you than himself. Oh! Better idea! How about you do some sketches of you both together? He would love those and some would definitely go ‘missing’.

Bo Sinclair

Not sure whether to be smug or freaked out. He just isn’t sure how to feel. It definitely feeds his ego and makes him even more cocky than usual but he also thinks it’s a little strange. He knows you’re an artist and everything but...would a photograph just be easier? No offence, Bo just does understand the artist process. All he knows if he would rather have a picture of you rather than a sketch.

Will tease you about it. Despite all of that, he knows what this means. You just can’t get enough of him, can you? Something about him must enthral you so much that you just have to spend your free time sketching his nudes from memory. That also makes him smirk, you’ve memorised every detail of his body. You’re feeding that ego and it’s your own fault!

Vincent Sinclair

Very flustered under the mask. That mask might be pale but his face his bright red. But does that stop him from flicking through your sketchbook? Not at all! He’s...curious, sure, that’s the word. All of these sketches of him. The artist in him admires the talent and detail. The normal guy in him wonders what you are doing drawing his body. Similar to Thomas, it probably builds his self esteem just a little.

Is more likely to show you his own. Of course he has done plenty of sketches of you, even before you were dating. You inspire him. He might have already shown you one or two but only ever the innocent ones. The more inappropriate ones he didn’t dare share with you. It felt wrong to make them but he loved them, loved you, so much. But you clearly have the same artistic inspiration so...maybe he should show you some of his sketches of you.

Lester Sinclair

Has to double check. Are these really of him? They really look like him. Do you really think he is worthy of drawing and of drawing like...this. Everything was so...accurate. You must have done this from memory, you must know his body better than him at this point. And he found something about that both flattering and...exciting.

Mutual embarrassment. You’re embarrassed because he found your sketches, he’s embarrassed because you just walked in on him flexing in the mirror. He was trying to see what you see! He’s just had an ego boost! He’s honest with you though, you don’t have to be embarrassed. He’s very flattered and they’re really good. And, well...you don’t have to stop drawing them.

Bubba Sawyer

This is him? Of course it’s him, it looks exactly like him, and who else would you be drawing in these...situations. He’s a little flustered but any of that is wiped away by his curiosity. He’s able to look past the lewdness of it all, just so proud of your talent. Then he focuses back on exactly what it was you were drawing and blushes ten times harder.

Let’s just hide these a little better, yeah? They’re very good, very impressive, and he likes them. But he couldn’t even imagine the teasing both you and he would get from his brothers if they found any of these. You both agree that they’re just for the two of you.

Billy Lenz 

Naughty, dirty, little Y/n...As soon as he sees the first one, he’s grabbing the book and heading for the attic to properly relax and examine them. Muttering to himself the whole time about how naughty you are for drawing these. And when you get home, he’s scurrying to meet you, forcing the sketchbook into your hands. Wrapping his arms around your waist and whispering in your ear all about your pretty drawing.

Maybe you should do more of these...including you. Really, he thinks they’re wonderful, very talented, very detailed. You should do more! But do you know what might be better? If you did some more of him that included you, wouldn’t that just be so much better, Y/n? Will keep his favourites up in the attic.

Asa Emory (The Collector)

Teases you about it. He just likes seeing you flustered, that’s it really. And this is the perfect opportunity. He’ll be sitting in the lounge, them spread out on the coffee table, two in his hands as he examines them. They’re good, he will give you that, but the look on your face when you find him like that is even better.

Becomes determined to make these sketches a reality. Asa now sees this as a challenge almost. Whatever fantasies you have put to paper, he wants to make them real. Every position, location, whatever it is, you will both work your way through them. Not that it feels like work.

Jesse Cromeans (Chromeskull)

Appreciates the art form. He prefers videos but he appreciates your preference for drawing. He particularly appreciates your art when it paints him in such a positive light. So you have these drawing of him...can he have some videos of you?

He’s not bashful about it. He’s flattered! He sees your talent and compliments you on it. But his new favourite thing to do? Taking one of those drawings and placing it down in front of you, making you look up at him, wide eyed and flustered. But it gets the message across just fine, this is the sketch he would like to recreate tonight. You’re pretty sure he only does it to make you flustered though.

Otis Driftwood

Is surprised but will tease you about it. He definitely wasn’t expecting this but it’s better than anything he could have guessed you liked drawing. It definitely inflates his ego that you’re drawing him at all and the fact that most of them are so lewd is even better to him. He doesn’t think they’re any need to be embarrassed or ashamed, they’re really good! But he can’t resist teasing you about your infatuation with him.

Will definitely show you his own (if he hasn’t already). It’s perfectly possible that he’s already showed you his pornographic sketches of you, and he has a lot of the. But if he hasn’t, this will definitely get him too. You show him yours and he’ll show you his, it’s only fair even to him. Plus he hopes it will encourage you to share any future sketches with him.

Baby Firefly

Is flattered and think you’re cute when you blush about it. She’s honestly just flattered and impressed. They’re good! You’re so talented! But if you’re embarrassed or blushing about her finding them, she will both compliment and reassure you while teasing you just a little. You’re too cute to not tease at least a bit.

Will pose for you in future. Baby doesn’t really have any embarrassment about this kind of stuff, and she clearly has nothing to be ashamed off if you keep making these. So of course she will pose for you, she might even get more into it than you.

Yautja (Predator) 

Are these for...science? No? When he first finds them, he believes them to be studies of his anatomy. He is curious about your race and it makes sense that you’d be interested in his, wanting to learn as much as you want. But as he kept looking through the sketches, he could see that these were not scientific.

Flattered. He’s not going to get flustered, this type of stuff doesn’t really bother him. He feels a sense of pride that you admire him so much to put your time into these, he’s also impressed by their accuracy.
