What is the hardest thing to adjust to at NRC? The magic? Being away from their family? Ect.

I love this question because it led to me thinking about yuusha and yuuna's mindsets while in NRC. and this helped me flesh out their motives and personalities more so again thank you very much!!

━━━━✦ Yuusha

The hardest thing to adjust to for Yuusha is generally having to fend for herself. Everything feels significantly harder to handle compared to her homeworld. She is fairly adaptable though, it's more of the emotional toll that is affecting her.

And it doesn’t really help that she tends to say what’s on her mind without thinking twice about it which sometimes lands her into trouble.

While Yuusha is a person who earned her own accomplishments, especially back in her homeworld, she was also privileged enough to have been provided a leg up when it comes to her pursuits. Which means that Yuusha had it somewhat easy.

Now she has to adjust her expectations and she has to figure out everything by herself in order to survive. And Yuusha is the type of person who refuses to ask for help. This is *her* problem and her problem alone.

She's just in a constant state of stress.

━━━━✦ Yuuna

Yuuna has zero memories of their home world. It is hard for them to adjust to the fact that (1) they can’t remember shit and (2) they can’t use magic in a place meant for magic.

They feel incapable and useless whenever they’re reminded that they are out of place in NRC—that they don’t belong there. Yuuna hates that others have to protect them because they don't have magic.

So to compensate, Yuuna attempts to “fake it till they make it”, and tries to prove their capabilities to others.

At first, they try to get in everyone’s good graces while also trying to prove themself to others that they’re not weak. Eventually though, Yuuna trying to befriend everyone turned genuine and real to the point that they just care about everyone.

And that motivated them more to become more capable for the ones they care about.

so i havent talked about yuuna much but i started them with the idea that theyd be based off alice from the animated (1951) + the one from tim burton’s alice in wonderland (2010)

so then i imagine they’d be singing this from the animated movie to grim sometimes 🥺🥺🥺

Yuuna stared blankly out the window next to their bed. Their eyelids felt heavy and it was taking everything for them to not fall asleep.

Grim woke up and noticed that he was alone on the bed. Usually somehow Yuuna would be sprawled across the sheets that it would barely even make space for him.

It did not take long for him to find Yuuna though as one quick glance at the window he saw the back of their head.

🐈‍⬛: Yuu?

Yuuna seemed to break out of their trance and looked back at Grim.

🩷: Hm? Oh, hey. Did I wake you?

🐈‍⬛: Of course you did. Every time you wake up, I wake up which is getting annoying.

🩷: Sorry.

🐈‍⬛: Is it the dreams again?

🩷: Yeah.

🐈‍⬛: You should learn to toughen up. My hench-human can't be weak. They should be strong enough against these stupid dreams! For now, I'll join ya while you mope. Clearly even sleeping you don't know how to do well so I'll wait until you're ready to do so.

🩷: Hehe. You're right... Thanks, boss. I'll try harder.

Grim then joined Yuuna by the window, sitting down on their lap. The prefect and their dorm member stared out the window in comforting silence.

🐍: No.

💜: I'll do all your work for the entire weekend. No, the entire week.

🐍: No. That's my job and I don't trust you.

💜: Oh, come on. What will it take for me to convince you?

🐍: Nothing. Why don't you get Ace and Deuce to do it?

💜: Because they're too obvious.

🐍: "Too obvious"?

💜: Yeah. And like I already told you, I'll be wearing a similar maid outfit.

🐍: ..... No. Because that implies you're only recruiting me so you could humiliate me too.

Yuuna is my first Yuu OC!

I made Yuuna into kind of a "blank slate" for the most part so I can be more flexible with them when it comes to just random stuff.

They are somewhat my more canon-compliant Yuu, which means that I use them more as a stand-in for the in-game story. (But I still add a lot of aspects that are way more biased to relationships with Heartslabyul.)

Yuuna is also inspired by various Alice in Wonderland characters because I like the idea that the prefect is just "Alice" in a Twisted Wonderland.

Fun fact! Their birthday is also when I started playing TWST.

💝 Yuuna shares Grim's appetite, the Ramshackle duo are similar to one another in a lot of ways. On top of that, Yuuna is just very protective of him because he is basically like family to Yuuna. They would defend Grim from others no matter what.

💝 They consider Heartslabyul their second home in NRC. They love everyone the most there. Yuuna is essentially an honorary member of the dorm anyway since they always visit. They are always invited to their dorm events such as their Unbirthday parties.

💝 Yuuna has respect for Leona as an older brother -figure. After the Octavinelle incident, Yuu was more comfortable frequently crashing Leona’s room with Grim often to just “chill and hang out” (with help from Ruggie through bribery until eventually it just became normal when Leona began to mildly tolerate them).

💝 Yuuna only grew to like taking photos after being given the Ghost Camera. They now have the habit of taking photos of everyone and everything. Memories to keep for the future just in case…

💝 Usually would be soft-spoken and would keep their mouth shut, at least when it comes to people they’re not particularly close with. But the things they say can pack a punch whenever they decide to be blunt to others or simply whenever they tease those who they consider their friends.

💝 Yuuna, despite their own feelings towards another person, always chooses to be amicable. It’s no wonder why they seemingly managed to have some kind of a good rapport with most people due to their kind and forgiving nature. After all, what is the point of holding grudges?

💝 This “kindness” of theirs can also be mistaken as malicious as sometimes it can result in something just to spite others. Is their kindness coming from a genuine place? Well, yeah. At least Yuuna believes so. Which means at some points, that sentiment may not be true despite what Yuuna thinks.

💝 Deep down, they don’t believe themselves to be inherently kind. So Yuuna chooses to be. To the best of their abilities at least.

💝 Generally the mediator and prefers to avoid conflict. However, they are not against picking a fight when necessary, especially when it comes to their friends.

💝 Every now and then (if the consequences aren’t too big to handle or if they could get away with it), Yuuna indulges in a little bit (a lot) of chaos and tomfoolery.

💝 Has no memories of where they come from but this does not bother them at all in the slightest and they don’t know why. Yuuna is more bothered by the fact that it doesn’t bother them.

💝 Yuuna has a preference for gender-neutral terms but generally doesn’t care if they are referred to as anything else. They also like to express themselves as more feminine regardless of their identity.

i really like how canonically yuu is genuinely supportive of grim wanting to be a great mage. if i recall correctly, even character voice lines point this out. and it seems like yuu dotes on grim a lot and defends him too??? yuu even encourages grim's ambitions whenever he declares wanting to be a great mage. and also when he does that boss-henchhuman dynamic. i mean yeah you can interpret it as yuu saying that being condescending and sarcastic as if they're talking to a child saying "when i grow up i want to be famous!" but like. i really think they're genuine when mc loves grim in their own way.

even if grim is usually a menace, he's become like family to yuu.

and i'm pretty sure grim feels the same way.

think about it this way. despite all the mess, all the unpredictability, the danger, and all the drama being in nrc. what's always the constant? yuu goes home at the end of the day to the ramshackle dorm (basically their home at this point considering they slowly but surely fix it up over time) and with who? “the great mage” grim. as the sole outcasts in that academy, they both sleep soundly knowing they will always have each other at the end of the day.
