KRNHG Ramble #2: Thank Goodness They Never Made Barney the Dinosaur A Walking Head (Kamen Rider W Episode 2)

I’m questioning my fifteen year old self as to how I saw this series as ‘boring’, what on earth were you thinking...you? Me? Anyway, it’s only the second episode but I’m warming up to everyone - which makes no sense yet it does since I’m starting from the beginning as opposed to the middle like I do with many tokusatsu series.

Here lies Shotarou’s broken childhood friendship. That was actually depressing and I felt so bad for him

Considering it’s pre-development days for Philip, I have to say he deserved that punch from Shotarou after the commentary that he isn’t hard-boiled but half-boiled. I know the show will make a joke of it later on but considering at this point Shotarou is still steeped in the desire to live like his mentor did...

They also made up really quickly - what on earth, even more recent Kamen Riders don’t get over stuff that fast. Shotarou’s little smile at Philip coming to the rescue only to try and quell it down because “he’s still mad and hard-boiled you know” - what a tsundere XD Shotarou’s older than Philip but why do they feel like fraternal twins haha

Even five years later Marina’s transformation is one of the scariest things I have seen on this show

THE T-REX DOPANT - well, points for not sexualizing the T-Rex form - but on the other hand that walking head is nightmare fuel worthy

So this is where the inspiration for the Powerdizer of Fourze came from, I never really thought about that

Maybe it was because of the towing scene or to stop herself from tumbling about in the car as the Dopant dragged her along, but why didn’t Akiko unbuckle her seat belt before trying to get off the police car

I think it’s nigh probable that I will cry over the Kamen Rider partnership of Philip and Shotarou when I reach the end of this show

Face it, I cried over episode 48′s last five minutes because I didn’t have the guts to watch it properly

W H A T I don’t remember Kirihiko going naked in the second episode? What on earth - okay, being free of clothes in art means that there is purity but in this case I don’t see any reason for him to go strip bare when your fiancee is a hovering larvae monster, the father-in-law is...odd, the sister-in-law is one of those factory reject dolls and the family cat is...well, transformed

Yeah, my ship preferences most definitely lie in hero x heroine ships for KR, whether I like it or not

I like how unpredictable Akiko is and that she unintentionally refuses to let Shotarou live out his hard-boiled fantasies

The sign for the detective agency is pretty cute!

And I know Akiko canonically ends up with Terui but since when did Toei canon stop me from doing anything?

That typewriter is to die for, there’s nothing wrong with a man writing romanized reports about his cases on a typewriter

A 10/10 for sure!

[Today the Broly movie came out in my country and I got to see it! Spoilers and jumbled thoughts below the cut]

To get the bad outta the way before the awesome:

*This didn't feel like a movie, just a collection of plot points shoved into a movie. In other words, the fact that this was originally written as a three hours movie was really, really obvious. The plot points were awesome, mind you, but it kind of felt like watching a Wikipedia synopsis animated.

*WHIS FIGHT SHOULD HAVE LASTED MORE THAN THREE SECONDS W H Y

Now that's done:

*I'm between choosing "(Serious voice) Tell me, Freezer... (Silly voice) What does "inhospitable" means?" or "Huge and serious dramatic intro/Cut to Whis fangirling about food" as my favorite gotdamn moment.

*When Cha la Head Cha la started playing I screamed.

*Continuing above: When they showed moments of Dragon Ball from Original Series to Z to Super I almost cried.

*Piccoro. Just. Piccoro.

*I was spoiled for Freezer's wish and I was readying myself for cringe comedy (i haaate it) but the way they pulled off with the Bulma parallel actually made it funny. Kudos to that.

*Broly/Cheerai/Lemo OT3. I was ready and I was not disappointed.

*I love Paragus. What an ass.

*Freezer was so fucking funny in this movie I looove him so muuuch.

*Also I see on the tags that nobody recognized his wish as an obvious call back to the Red Ribbon Army saga and like the-iron-fjord always says, "WATCH ORIGINAL DRAGON BALL".

*G O G E T A.

*Look I have no idea how was the original line or the English translation but after Gogeta stops Freezer and he detransforms he says "Me doy", which is kind of like "I give up" but like. If one was playing a card game or smth. It was absurdly hilarious.

*Gogeta choosing his own name was great.

*Cheelai is even better than imagined.

*Can I have more of Blueberry and the frog dude pls and thanks.

*HOW COULD I FORGET pretty sure the only character that actually yelled Karkarot was... Gine. I can only imagine:

Toei: Hey Toriyama nobody yells Kakarot in your script you can't have a Broly movie without a Karkarot scream.

*Also thank you Toriyama for 100% confirming that Goku would probably still had been an infiltration baby without the destruction of planet Vegeta.

*I saw Raditz and Nappa for a minute and I cried.

*I SAW THE GINYU ARMY AND I SCREAMED.

*I'm so glad the scene from the first trailer was in the movie.

*Shenlog got an awesome cameo and I couldn't ask for more. (Okay yeah maybe an explanation of why did he only conceded one wish but ANYWAY).

*I fucking love that now Vegeta's finally moved on of "Being better than Kakarot" as his main character drive and his next character drive is... "I'm putting Freezer back in hell where he belongs". It's beautiful.

*I Need the screencap of the one second cameo of the fighters of the other universes. Ribrianne looked beautiful.

*The Piraf Gang got to cameo and that makes me happy.

*Trunks and Goten looked great.

*Freezer got the instructions for how to make a wish on the dragon balls actually written down and that's hilarious and fantastic. My baby is truly learning from his mistakes.

*I 100% get the feel that Toriyama is planning a lot with Freezer and that makes me So Happy.

*But also it sounds like Goku wants to have Broly as a training partner and Freezer... wants to have Broly as a training partner. Incredible.

*Can Lemo and Cheelai give Broly all the hugs. My poor, poor son.

*I'm not really sure on this, but I thiiiink that when the Freezer Army dudes were getting a read of power levels on Goku and Vegeta, it actually blew up at trying to read Whis.

*Lemo is precious and I love him.

*Zero gotdamn explanation on what the fuck happened when reality kind of... exploded? What? I mean it was cool as fuck but... what?

*Same with Vegeta going Super Saiyan God. W h a t?

*Talking about Super Saiyan, Blue was the best. They actually showed Goku (i think?) In Super Saiyan God going Super Saiyan and achieving Blue. 10 of 10 it was great.

*Truly the only thing it could have made the transformations better would be the "flickering" effect of going between base and Super they used on DBS 131.

In resume: It was great now when's the anime coming back and adaptating it into a saga.

Taichi is someone who canonically treats people without discrimination.

Daisuke does his best to embody Taichi at the start (*in the way Daisuke believes what 'embodying Taichi' means), and even when he makes mis-steps (*in embodying Taichi), and even when he begins to drop doing so, regarding at least that fact, he's clearly still trying to do some of the same (not only start of) but by the end of the series...

... The fact my fan base still doesn't appear to understand this about either character continues to astound me to this day.

No, Daisuke would NOT "be scared of" or (endlessly) """hate""" someone who was a little different from him in the long run. (That includes the Adventure and post-Tri Chosen!!!)---

Daisuke would be accepting.

Daisuke would want to make sure they're SAFE.

Daisuke, because Daisuke was characterized as a character who eventually grew to learn compassion for others, too, would at least try to show COMPASSION even when he fails sometimes at it

He already did this WITH KEN!!! KEN, who DID do awful things (and no, I do not agree with wiping them under the rug, claiming Ken ~never~ chose to do anything by himself, ignoring the fact he literally stole the real-world term and used the German "Kaiser" as a NAME)

{Ken wasn't stupid. Ken KNOWS what that word Implied} (TOEI knew what that name Implied when they gave it to him)

Daisuke, POST-02, would not (in the long run) hate or be scared of someone for being D i s a b l e d, "looking funny", "acting funny" or "ODD" ("shifty" people can't be trusted, right??) or "different", "acting M E N T A L L Y I L L"... J E W I S H, A u t i s t i c, Q.ueer, or even slightly different from him.

The entire g-ddamn point of 02 was bringing ALL the Chosen of the world together by the end, regardless of ANY differences they had.

This is literally the entire SET-UP for "The Beginning"

That's so much more important to me a concept then declaring some chara (much less ANY main/lead of this franchise) would find another human being (and not, let's assume, possessed or controlled by some Digi or another) "inherently" """scary""" based on any sort of first impressions, minimal, in the long run, differences from them.

And there is a difference between assuming Daisuke might feel let down at times by his senpai (the Adventure Chosen), and (based on your own negative feelings about Tri) mis-characterizing him so he outright HATES them, would dismiss them, would "BLAME them" for even the events of Tri, would hold an eternal, endless grudge over their heads for events not even their fault, which the characters (even Takeru!) all canonically realize were never the Adventure Chosen's faults---

... I'm so over my fan base's internlized a b l e i s m and etc. bigotries.

I'm so over it but I'll never stop pointing out when internalized bigtories (on such "views of" "characterization") are literally just that: just internalized bigotries and bias that's projected onto these characters by Neuro-typical or otherwise not always even D I S A B L E D fans (or, even, Allistic fans, because what a lot of you don't realize is what's considered "different" or "odd" to you comes natural to many of us).

Before you talk to me about people/characters you consider "scary",

Take a moment and think about why you consider those people "scary" 'by default'.

And in the end, can you really say it's not overall the concepts of "D I S A B I L I T Y" and "M E N T A L I L L N E S S" existing that's truly what's "scaring" you about character "potential"s?

It's bias that you hold against those other characters (or character 'types') for them existing.
