Everdawn Basin:

Good grief, this song plays on an active battlefield as down-to-earth elf people fight back against an oppressive military regime in a volcano. There is quite a bit to criticize about Dust's storytelling, but the way Hyperduck chose to embody this final section of the game is so cool. Starting off with elegant strings and an ethereal choir, the track is not letting up on the tension for even a second. Inevitably reaching a crescendo with the marching rhythm and electric guitars. Absolutely glorious.

⸻   flashing   lights   shoot   across   the   dance   floor   filled   to   the   brim   ,   harvard   welcome   week   brought   with   it   ,   new   pledges   .   but   also   ,   his   fraternity   duties   .   breathed   into   a   new   role   ,   now   in   his   senior   year   .   though   ,   he’d   long   ditched   the   pleasantries   in   favor   of   reacquainting   himself   with   a   familiar   face   .   last   party   they’d   been   to   ,   they’d   agreed   to   steer   clear   of   one   another   .   not   that   he’d   cared   in   the   first   place   ,   but   she’d   done   so   with   the   interests   of   her   brother   (   his   best   friend   )   in   mind   .   respectable   ,   yet   not   desired   .   which   is   particularly   why   he’d   done   the   opposite   ,   and   five   shots   in   ,   his   clear   desire   hadn’t   faltered   in   the   slightest   .   hungry   gaze   drinking   in   features   .   ❝   you   know   ,   i’ve   been   telling   you   that   you’re   the   prettiest   girl   i   know   for   a   long   time   now   .   ❞   broad   shoulders   shrugged   .   ❝   should   probably   make   good   on   that   reassurance   some   day   …   ❞

his  eyes  lift  from  the  book  set  before  him  on  the  desk.  a  soft  smile  forms  when  he  sees  ariel  peeking  around  the  slightly  cracked  open  door  to  his  study.  relieved  to  see  it's  her  and  not  someone  who  would  scold  him  for  not  getting  his  rest  or  spending  too  much  time  in  his  study  once  more.  he  gives  a  single  nod  of  his  head.  ❛  i  had,  but  i  couldn't  sleep.  i  thought  maybe  a  little  reading  would  help.  has  it  already  been  an  hour?  ❜  a  soft  laugh  slips  from  his  lips  as  he  waves  a  hand  gesturing  for  her  to  come  join  him.  ❛  i  may  have  gotten  a  little  too  engrossed  in  this  book.  ❜  his  eyebrows  furrow  gently  then  before  a  smile  returns  to  his  features.  ❛  and  what  are  you  still  doing  awake?  ❜  he  questions  lightly,  almost  teasingly.

jacks's eyebrows raise, his lips twisting into a cruel smirk. "worried about me now, are you?" jacks drawls, taking a generous bite of a blue apple before tossing it carelessly onto the floor. it lands with a thump and a squish. the fate's acutely aware of what kind of situation he was about to put himself in that would compel evangeline to confess such things, but he opts to disregard it. jacks wasn't the type to offer comfort anyway. "well, don't. i'll be back in an hour. try not to kill yourself."
