"i have a strong feeling that we can find something in here, you know...." minki says, walking over to the @lgcwenjun with a huff. "i heard that someone got a drink me card, and i was wondering what that meant. would it be attached to something...? would we have to drink something? is it a challenge? do we get something out of it?"

maybe he's overthinking too much, that is, until he sees a piece of paper lodged between the floors. "oh wait, wenjun... i think i see something?" he blinks, crouching down and leaning closer. is that what he thinks it is? is it time for curiosity to kill the cat?

for most people, mornings were dreadful. it meant the start of the new day, and solidified the end of another. but wenjun quite liked mornings – it meant that he was perhaps, one day closer to his dream of debuting ( looking at it like this was one of the few ways he’d kept himself positive ). wenjun had his own typical morning routine, he’d start his day off with a nice bath, followed by a cup of iced water to force himself awake. he’d then make his way to the legacy building, korean flash cards in hand as he attempted to memorize new vocabulary.

his mornings usually started that way, and would go undisturbed until he entered the legacy building. this wasn’t a typical morning though, at least not for wenjun. as he went through his flash cards, mumbling out new korean words and reading the explanation, he found himself bumping into an unsuspecting stranger.

“oh!” his eyes are wide with shock when he realizes what had just happened, flash cards sprawled on the floor. quickly, he picks them up – thankfully, the stranger helps. “are you alright?” he asks, concerned. his own obliviousness had caused an accident after all.

“i’m fine,” the stranger smiles, as he passes wenjun his last pack of cards. “i hope you’re alright!” the man glances at wenjun’s cards and wenjun can feel an embarrassed blush coming on. “are you perhaps not korean?”

“oh i’m not. that’s why i’m studying the language so hard.”

there’s a pause before the man continues. “you know, you need to be careful in case you get into another accident like this! it could be expensive if someone got hurt! let me tell you what, i’m actually an insurance agent... i could sign you up for a good coverage for a very good deal.”

wenjun looks at the man, confused. he hadn’t understood half those words. but the man sounded convincing enough. and of course he didn’t want to get into another accident! he didn’t want anyone getting hurt! “oh uhm, you could help me get that... in-insurance?” he asks innocently, genuinely wondering if this man could help.

he has no idea what's happening. one moment he's busy checking some stock inventory ( he's least favourite part of working as a florist ), and the next he's being bombarded by questions from a customer he doesn't recognize. it doesn't help that wenjun's korean is far from well... amazing. and in fear that he'd seem too unapproachable, he finds himself only staring at the said customer with wide eyes, brows slightly furrowed in confusion.

"sorry... but you said you wanted a rose...?" he repeats, only for the boy in front of him to laugh and give him a sleazy smile. yes and you're the rose i'm looking for is what the man replies with, which only makes wenjun only more confused. "huh?" it's then when it hits him rather belatedly that he's probably being hit on, and wenjun's never been very good at turning people down.

as though some sort of higher power could hear the gears in his head turning as he attempted to think of an excuse to give this man, sujin appears. and in what feels to wenjun like a line from a movie, sujin manages to get the man to scurry off. sujin is taller than wenjun, and the younger boy has to lift his head slightly to meet sujin's gaze.

"oh hyung, thank you!" he says, bowing, he genuinely is thankful for sujin's help – had the older boy showed up any later, wenjun probably would've pulled the i don't speak korean card in an attempt to get the guy to go away. he doesn't have any time to explain to sujin that he was simply confused for the most part though, because before he can even blink, the older boy is leaning against the table and asking wenjun to practice.

practice? wenjun furrows his brows again. "but i think i could tell you to uh... eff off," he says, a little careful to not swear in front of his boss' son. it wasn't as though wenjun was a saint, but even he knew better than to throw vulgarities at the child of his boss. There was a bit of a wait at the pick up. No line, just one awful human being deciding his time was more important than everybody else's. To add to Sujin's irritation, the idiot wasn't even there for flowers, he was trying to pick up the guy arranging them.

"He's taken." Sujin joined the two at the counter. "Get lost." Or die. The chill in his eyes made it clear that there was no third option.

The man wisely chose to live. Well done.

"Wenjun," Sujin sighed. "You are too nice. Don't give these people any of your time." His mom's employees weren't his responsibility, but he had time to kill today since one should never rush to attend a funeral. Might as well offer some advice. "Here, let's practice." He leaned over the counter the way the other guy did when he walked in. "Pretend I am the asshole from earlier, aggressively hitting on you and being a pest. Tell me to fuck off."

You stare at Zeren, watching closely as he gracefully moves across the room. You let out a small sigh of contentment as you watch him dance happily, his movements full of passion. You make eye contact with him through the mirror and you give him an encouraging smile. Zeren smiles back before twirling and continuing his dance.

“Hey, you’re so whipped,” you hear Chengcheng snicker next to you.

“Sit down and shut up,” you growl, pulling Chengcheng down to sit next to you.

“You aren’t denying it,” Chengcheng wiggles his eyebrows at you.

You shake your head, rolling your eyes and shove Chengcheng’s head. He simply laughs before munching away at an energy bar. Zeren soon finishes his dance and you clap, cheering a little. Zeren chuckles and turns to you and bows, causing you to giggle.

“Wow, you never cheer me on like that,” Zhengting pouts.

“I’m just better,” Zeren smirks, teasing Zhengting.

“Hey, take that back! I’m the one who feeds you!” Zhengting huffs.

“Sorry, sorry,” Zeren apologizes half-heartedly.

Zeren sits down next to you, giving you a big smile. You blush a little but smile back. You hear Chengcheng make gagging noises behind you and you shove him away. However, he just continues and now Justin is making kissing faces in front of you, behind Zeren. You roll your eyes at the two younger boys.

“So, how was it? Was it okay?” Zeren asks.

“Of course! Your dances are always so enticing,” you nod, smiling proudly at him.

“Ahh, thanks,” Zeren smiles shyly, rubbing the back of his neck with his hand.

“Gross, get a room, you two,” Zhengting sighs.

“Lovebirds,” you hear Xinchun mumble on the side.

“Alright, should we head out for dinner now?” Zhengting aks.

Everyone cheers and rushes out the door. You and Zeren take your time to leave, making sure to lock up the door. Both of you lag behind the group a little, chatting happily. You see Justin and Chengcheng looking back at the two of you and whisper to each other occasionally. You just snort and shake your head.

You feel Zeren’s hand lightly brush against yours and you wrap your pinky around his. You see him smiling shyly and you blush, trying to suppress your own smile. Zeren intertwines his fingers with yours and you gasp, a little shocked, but pleased nonetheless. The two of you gradually walk closer and closer.

Finally, all of you reach the restaurant and Zhengting quickly ushers all of you in. A waiter comes and leads you to your table and you sit down next to Zeren. Chengcheng slides into the seat next to you and Justin on the other side of Zeren.

“Ugh, why do you two have to sit next to us?” you groan.

“So we can watch you and make sure you guys don’t do gross stuff,” Justin snickers.

“Shut up, brat. We’re eating dinner, why would we do anything disgusting?” Zeren growls, smacking the back of Justin’s head.

“You never know!” Chengcheng cackles at the sight of Justin being hit.

“You shut up too!” you shove Chengcheng.

“Alright, kids. All of you shut up and order,” Zhengting sighs, aggressively flipping through the menu.

You see Wenjun and Xinchun snickering from across and you roll your eyes, focusing on the menu. Thank goodness Quanzhe was still here. He is the only one that kept you sane...besides Zeren of course, although he did make you crazy in love with him.

Throughout dinner, you would occasionally feel Zeren brush his knee against your leg. You would try to suppress your blush every time. Luckily, Justin and Chengcheng seem to be too busy eating to say anything.

After everyone has finished, all of you sat around for a little while longer, chatting about this and that. Now, Zeren’s leg was pressed up against yours and you smile a little, but try to hide your happiness. Unfortunately, Chengcheng seemed to have noticed.

“What are you smiling about?” Chengcheng asks, catching Justin’s attention.

“Oh my gosh. You guys even sit like a couple! Just go on a date already,” Justin whines.

Zeren rolls his eyes and you sigh. You look over at him, blushing a little at the fact that Justin just blurted out your feelings for you. Zeren shrugs, taking your hand with both of his, stroking it a little. You notice that he was also blushing a little and you giggle.

“Well, when should our next date be, babe?” Zeren asks, smiling widely at you.

“How about tomorrow? Are you free?” you couldn’t help but giggle.

“Sounds good to me,” Zeren leans in, giving you a kiss.

You smile, feeling much more relaxed. You and Zeren chatted away, ignoring all the other guys’ shocked expression. Zeren had actually asked you to be his girlfriend two months ago and you guys have gone on quite a few dates already. Nobody had mentioned that both of you began acting more lovey-dovey with each other so you and Zeren hadn’t found it important to tell the others about your new relationship.

You and Zeren laugh as the others begin to spew out questions. You play with Zeren’s hands as the both of you calmly answered all their questions.

“I-I knew something was up!” Justin shrieks.

“Since when?” Chengcheng slams the table.

“Where you ever going to tell us?” Quanzhe asks, his eyes wide open.

“You guys weren’t going to tell us, huh?” Zhengting shakes his head.

“We started dating two months ago. Nobody said anything and we didn’t really find it that important to tell you guys,” Zeren chuckles, intertwining his fingers with yours.

“Yeah, we were sure you guys already noticed,” you nod, amused.

“I’m disappointed in you guys,” Xinchun signs, shaking his head.

“I can’t believe it,” Wenjun crosses his arms across his chest.

“Chengcheng, Justin, you guys owe me a meal each,” Quanzhe calmly says.

“You guys bet on us?” you scoff, glaring at each of them playfully.

“Hey, Justin made the bet,” Chengcheng sighs, pulling out a gift card, “Quanzhe, can I treat you to some ice cream then?”

“Sure, I’ll accept that,” Quanzhe nods.

“Stop blaming it on me! You agreed on the bet,” Justin pouts, stomping his feet.

“Whatever, y/n and I are going to leave first,” Zeren shakes his head, standing up, holding out a hand for you.

“Thanks for the meal, Zhengting,” you grin, taking Zeren’s hand.

Zeren pulls you up and you wrap your arm around him. He puts an arm on your shoulder, pulling you close. The two of you make your way out, smiling happily at each other.

“Make sure to use protection!” Justin yells as the two of you leave.

“You brat! Just wait till you get home!” Zeren turns around and yells back.

You hear Justin mumble shoot and you laugh. Zeren shakes his head, chuckling before opening the door for you. Grinning, you walk out, slipping your hand into Zeren’s as he also heads out the door.

It feels better now that you know that the boys know about your relationship. You cuddle into Zeren as he walks you back to your apartment. He kisses you on the head, making you blush.

“You know, it’s nice to know that I still have that effect on you,” Zeren chuckles.

“What?” you ask, still hugging him.

“The fact that you still blush when I just look at you makes my heart flutter,” Zeren sighs, “You’re making me soft and I don’t like it.”

“Seems like I have the same effect on you,” you giggle, tip-toeing to kiss Zeren’s cheek.

“I also like the effect we had on the guys when we told them earlier,” Zeren laughs.

“Me too,” you nod in agreement.

“I wonder what effect we’ll have on them we tell them we’re going to move in together,” Zeren wonders.

“I don’t think they could handle it,” you chuckle.

“I’d like to see that,” Zeren laughs.

You smile, looking down. The sound of Zeren’s laughter causes butterflies to form in your stomach. You nod before burying your face in Zeren’s side. You hear him chuckle and you pull him closer. You’re glad he still has this effect on you and your smile widens. You wouldn’t change the feelings he makes you feel for the world.

You first met Zhengting in a cafe.

He was a trainee at this nearby agency, that some trainees often came to before, during, and after practice.

You had been working there a year, yet you must have worked on days he didn’t come in.

Since damn, he was stunning, and took your breath away.

You served their table, seeing three of your usual customers, Zeren, Xinchun, and Wenjun at the table also.

“The regular?” You ask those three, then they all nod.

Once you have it written down, you turn to the newer comer as he gives you his order.

The moment you walk away, and are out of their earshot, Zhengting is questioning the other three.

Asking how they know you and just a slew of other questions, about the beautiful waitress.

You serve them as usual, but find yourself wishing that Zhengting would have stayed a bit longer, as they all leave.

The next day it’s back to the usual three being the only patrons, and you as usual take your break as they walk in.

“Who was that yesterday?” You ask them, as you sit next to Wenjun.

“Zhengting.” Xinchun simply replies.

That then sparks the long conversation about why he hadn’t came by before, because he usually practices during lunch.

And something Wenjun clarified very well, that he is single.

The next time you see him is about two weeks later.

The other three had came in as usual, during those weeks, but Zhengting never came in again.

It wasn’t until one day, Wenjun gives you a paper with a random address, telling you to go there at seven, and to dress nice.

You decide you might as well, thinking maybe Wenjun or Zeren planned something for you.

To say you were shocked to see Zhengting would be an understatement.

Zhengting was honestly just as confused as you were, but then both of your phones buzzed.

It was Wenjun, Zeren, and Xinchun.

The text just said Zhengting likes you, enjoy your date.

You assumed his text said something along the same lines, except with your name instead of Zhengting.

“Really?” Zhengting said, his voice getting sorta high pitched, since he didn’t believe it.

You then nodded your head, looking at him.

“Yeah.” You simply said.

“You like me?” You added, not really believing it since like how could someone like him, like you.

He nodded, and then you realized what was around you.

The others had planned such a cute little picnic for the two of you.

And you both decided to enjoy the date they had planned.

Then a few days later, Zhengting took you on a proper date, and that just started it all.

The Yuehua boys will constantly remind you how if it wasn’t for them, you two wouldn’t be dating, since both were too shy to make a move.

It would honestly be your third date, when Zhengting kisses you.

You were both stargazing, and he was captivated by your beauty, and he kissed you.

You of course, kissed him back.

And there you two were making out while laying on a blanket, under a starry night.

He would always take you a place where you can be alone.

Like stargazing, picnics, sailing, honestly, just anywhere the younger ones can’t find you.

You would go on about seven dates before he asks you to be his girlfriend/boyfriend.

When you say yes, you instantly become like 9 people’s mom/dad.

Like all the Chinese and Korean Yuehua trainees call you that, so just get used to it.

Quanzhe literally has you saved in his phone as mom/dad, you can’t escape it.

They added you into their group chat, and Justin literally put you as mom/dad and whenever you change it, one of the children changes it back.

Don’t tell Zhengting, but Quanzhe and Chengcheng like you more than him.

They’ll constantly ask you to get them food or take them out for food.

You won’t tell the others, and you know Quanzhe won’t either, yet you usually just take him since he’s the least annoying all of them.

Zhengting would take you on a ton of dates, just like even just watching a movie at home, it’s a date to him.

He’ll always treat you also, like you aren’t paying for anything if he’s with you.

He’ll take you out and the children will tag along, and he’ll just pay for you two and tell the rest to pay for their own, unless you ask him to, then he’ll pay for them all.

The younger ones try to get you to take them out for food and stuff, but then when Zhengting gives them that look, they stop.

Zhengting says he sleeps better with you in his arms.

He’ll always wrap his arms around you and hold you close.

Like constantly the big spoon when cuddling.

He just loves holding you in his arms.

He’ll tease you a lot.

He just enjoys watching you get all red and flustered at his comments and compliments.

But he’ll never say anything hurtful.

Yet he’ll completely encourage you roasting the Yuehua boys, especially when they do something they know not to.

He’s just too soft, like really, he needs you to help him keep those children in line.

He’ll always compliment you, not matter how much of a mess you look like.

Like if you want an honest opinion about that outfit, ask Justin or Chengcheng, not Zhengting.

If you are like “Does this make me look fat?” he’s like “No, you look fine.” then you go to Justin and he’s like “You look pregnant/hella fat in that.”

His smile can literally alleviate all your pain.

When he’s sad or mad, you’ll do pretty much anything to see that smile again.

He would do the same to you, if you are mad or sad.

Arguments with him are rare.

He believes you should never go to bed angry.

So he’ll always apologize or talk through it with you, before bed time.

He also believes you shouldn’t say anything you might regret.

So if the argument is getting bad, he’ll just walk out and leave you alone, so he can calm down.

He also believes he should tell you that he loves you at least three times a day, minimum.

Every morning, he wakes you up and tells you he loves you.

Every evening, when he gets home from practice, he tells you he loves you.

Every night, when you go to bed, he tells you he loves you.

He’ll also usually text you a few times during the day letting you know he loves you.

He definitely says I love you first in the relationship.

He just gets to this point he realizes he really does.

He feels like he can’t live without you, and he really really does love you, so he tells you.

From the moment he tells you, he’s constantly reminding you.

Some mornings, if he doesn’t have to wake up early, he’ll wake you up by pecking your face with kisses repeatedly until you wake up.

Then the only way to stop him, is by kissing him.

Which leads to making out, until you both realize you are hungry and should probably get some food.

He’ll attempt to impress you by doing backflips.

It works.

You two always do facemask together, it’s become a sorta ritual for you both.

You’ll always purposely have a whole evening with no schedules, just so you two can have your mask time.

Zhengting will always try to kiss your neck, forgetting about the mask he has on, and so he’ll lift it and start kissing you.

You’re always like “Zhengting your messing up your mask.” but then he’s just like “I’m young, I don’t care.”

He’ll often kiss your neck, that’s pretty much his favorite place to kiss you.

If he’s kissing you, his lips are often on your neck.

At least he’s respectful enough to not leave your neck covered in hickeys, despite how tempted he is to do it.

If he does leave hickeys, it’ll be in places only he gets to see.

The only time he won’t kiss your neck, is when it’s easier to just kiss your lips.

He’ll over come up behind you when you are cooking, and just wrap his arms around you and start kissing your neck as he asks you what you are cooking.

He’ll always be ready to help you cook, if you want his help that is.

Like tells him what to do, and he can do it.

But if you don’t say exactly what he needs to do, he’s no help at all.

You need to tell him like the directions exactly, no add until it feels right, he needs measurements and times, or he’s lost.

He can cook, and he will for cook for you, but he always uses a recipe, until he gets to the point he knows the recipe by heart.

He’ll do cute things like cooking you foods from your native country or cooking you ethnic foods.

He might mess it up a few times, but he’ll keep trying until it taste just like it does back home.

He’ll also call your mom or dad and ask for some recipes he could make for you.

He’ll do cute things like make you breakfast in bed, or on your day off letting you rest and he’ll fix all the food.

If neither of you two feel like cooking, he’ll always be willing to buy you two some take out.

He’ll always pay.

You’ll never pay for anything when he’s around.

If you want to pay you’ll have to do something slick like swap his card for yours.

Or distract him so you can pay.

It’s not that hard to distract him.

Yet, he’ll give you the silent treatment for a good five minutes before giving in and having to tell you he loves you

He’ll take you shopping, but he’s the least helpful person to have around.

He thinks everything looks good on you, so clothing shopping around him isn’t very ideal, unless you are wanting him to pick the item he likes without you trying it on.

He’ll come up behind you when you are waiting in line and just wrap his arms around you and rest his chin on your head.

You two are definitely that couple.

The couple everyone finds annoying, but at the same time wants a relationship like that.

He probably knows your coffee order by heart, and so he can order it perfectly for you.

He probably also knows what foods you don’t like and what foods you love, so he can order food for you and it’s something you’ll like.

He’ll buy you little things like jewelry, specifically necklaces since that way there isn’t a chance it might not fit.

He’ll bring sweaters and shirts of his over to your house, and leave them for you.

If you point them out, he’ll get flustered in telling you that he brought them incase he needs one or something.

Then you are like, you brought them for me didn’t you.

And he’ll just be like, yeah.

So you put one of his sweaters on and he loves it.

Like you wearing his clothing, he loves it.

When you two move in together, he’ll definitely make sure you know his closet is also your closet.

He wouldn’t admit it, but he loves it when he goes home from practice or work and sees you wearing his shirt or sweater.

He will help you in any way you need.

Like you need someone to curl the back of your hair, he can do that.

You need someone to zip up your dress, he can definitely do that.

You need someone to help you clean the house, he can do that.

He can help you with your hair, yet, only simple things.

Like yeah he can help you curl your hair, but only if you show him what to do and all.

He can probably do a simple braid and probably put your hair into a ponytail, but that’s about it, other than being able to brush or comb it out.

He would honestly find it soothing to brush your hair, so he’d do it often.

He would also find it soothing if you ran your hands through his hair.

He can help you do your makeup however.

He does the Yuehua boys makeup, so he can and will definitely do yours.

He’ll honestly also love to watch you as you do your makeup and hair.

He’ll just be so captivated, and amazed as you do it.

He would probably hold you in his lap as you do your makeup.

He would just rest his chin on your shoulder, as you did your makeup, he would tells you that it looks good or he’d prefer another color.

He’ll always ask you if you’ve eaten, and if you haven’t, he’ll get you food.

He would give you the best hugs.

Like he’d just completely wrap himself around you and hold you tight.

He would always ask you about your day, and be completely serious about it.

Like he’s not faking interest, he’s truly interest.

The kind of boyfriend to stay up with you until 3 am, just because you were telling him a long story, or you started talking about something that interest you.

Like even if he knows nothing about it, he’ll listen intently and then read up about it, so he can have some input in it.

The first few times you kiss after you start dating, the kisses are short and sweet.

Mostly, they would just be on your cheeks, nose, and forehead, since he wouldn’t be extremely comfortable with just kissing you on your lips.

Yet, once he gets comfortable kissing your lips, he’ll constantly be kissing you there instead.

His kisses are either short sweet pecks, or they quickly escalate.

He’ll always wrap his arms around you waist and pull you into his lap, when the kisses escalate.

When you two are at the dorms, you’ll just to keep it lowkey, but then you’ll just start making out, ignoring pretty much everyone and everything else, then like Justin will walk in or something and start yelling you ruined his innocent eyes or something.

Yet, when you are at your apartment, Zhengting will literally just pull you down on top of him when you are making out, since he honestly just enjoys the contact.

He’ll also start kissing you when you are in the kitchen trying to cook, you’ll end up against the fridge door, your legs wrapped around his waist, as you two make out.

Yet, more often than not, he’d just pick you up and put you on the counter, and you’d make out there.

He’d be very clingy.

Yet, honestly, you don’t mind since you enjoy the warmth and love you can feel from him.

His hugs are literally the warmest hugs you’ve ever felt.

Like they warm you up when it’s cold, yet at the same time it doesn’t make you overheat when you’re hot.

He would just constantly want to hold you or have you in his lap.

He would total be that boyfriend that has you rest against his chest as he wraps his arms behind you, and will lean his head against your shoulder.

He would especially do this when you read, he would then read what you are reading, read it to you, or ask you to read it to him.

He would also do this if you seem tired, and you two would nap together like this.

He will always try to help you keep your life balanced.

Like if you are working or studying a lot, he’ll make sure you take a break.

Honestly, he would really really feel selfcare is important, so if you aren’t going to care for yourself, he’s gonna care for you.

Like if you are working on an essay or report and you’ve been typing for hours, he’ll just be like “Hey babe, you might want to save that, just incase your laptop goes dead or something.”

And you are like, wow a good suggestion, so you do.

Then once he sees you did it, he’ll close your laptop and pick you up and carry you over to the bed or sofa, whichever is closer, before tossing you down and climbing on top of you, telling you that you need to take a break, as he tickles, if you are a ticklish.

He’d take you to the beach, and probably pick you up and swing you around, before throwing you into the ocean.

If you can’t swim, he’ll teach you how.

Like he’ll spend a whole month, beforehand, teaching you how to swim, then finally take you to the beach when he’s sure you are good enough at swimming.

He’ll also constantly keep his eye on you, ready to pull you out of the ocean if needed.

You’ll probably just run around splashing each other and someone throws seaweed at the other, it was probably Zhengting.

You two will just run around at the beach the whole evening, and as the sun starts to set, you’ll sit down, sharing a blanket, watching the sun set.

It would probably be this moment when he realized he can’t live without you.

Just watching you watch the kaleidoscope of colors, as the sun sets, the light just faintly outlining your face, as you unknownling bask in the beauty of the sunset.

He will fall even deeper in love with you, and as he gazes at you with a look of such love, you realized you truly do have the most perfect boyfriend.

Scientists Reveal How Diamond industrial wireless modem  s Can Bend and Stretch

Diamond is well-known as the strongest of all natural materials, and with that strength comes another tightly linked property: brittleness. But now, an international team of researchers from MIT, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Korea has found that when grown in extremely tiny, needle-like shapes, diamond can bend and stretch, much like rubber, and snap back to its original shape.

The surprising finding is being reported this week in the journal Science, in a paper by senior author Ming Dao, a principal research scientist in MIT’s Department of Materials Science and Engineering; MIT postdoc Daniel Bernoulli; senior author Subra Suresh, former MIT dean of engineering and now president of Singapore’s Nanyang VPN industrial router for commercial and industrial and M2M/IoT applications   Technological University; graduate students Amit Banerjee and Hongti Zhang at City University of Hong Kong; and seven others from CUHK and institutions in Ulsan, South Korea.

The results, the researchers say, could open the door to a variety of diamond-based devices for applications such as sensing, data storage, actuation, biocompatible in vivo imaging, optoelectronics, and drug delivery. For example, diamond has been explored as a possible biocompatible carrier for delivering drugs into cancer cells.

The team showed that the narrow diamond needles, similar in shape to the rubber tips on the end of some toothbrushes but just a few hundred nanometers (billionths of a meter) across, could flex and stretch by as much as 9 percent without breaking, then return to their original configuration, Dao says.

Ordinary diamond in bulk form, Bernoulli says, has a limit of well below 1 percent stretch. “It was very surprising to see the amount of elastic deformation the nanoscale diamond could sustain,” he says.

“We developed a unique nanomechanical approach to precisely control and quantify the ultralarge elastic strain distributed in the nanodiamond samples,” says Yang Lu, senior co-author and associate professor of mechanical and biomedical engineering at CUHK. Putting crystalline materials such as diamond under ultralarge elastic strains, as happens when these pieces flex, can change their mechanical properties as well as thermal, optical, magnetic, electrical, electronic, and chemical reaction properties in significant ways, and could be used to design materials for specific applications through “elastic strain engineering,” the team says.

The team measured the bending of the diamond needles, which were grown through a chemical vapor deposition process and then etched to their final shape, by observing them in a scanning electron microscope while pressing down on the needles with a standard nanoindenter diamond tip (essentially the corner of a cube). Following the experimental tests using this system, the team did many detailed simulations to interpret the results and was able to determine precisely how much stress and strain the diamond needles could accommodate without breaking.

The researchers also developed a computer model of the nonlinear elastic deformation for the actual geometry of the diamond needle, and found that the maximum tensile strindustrial cellular vpn routerain of the nanoscale diamond was as high as 9 percent. The computer model also predicted that the corresponding maximum local stress was close to the known ideal tensile strength of diamond — i.e. the theoretical limit achievable by defect-free diamond.

When the entire diamond needle was made of one crystal, failure occurred at a tensile strain as high as 9 percent. Until this critical level was reached, the deformation could be completely reversed if the probe was retracted from the needle and the specimen was unloaded. If the tiny needle was made of many grains of diamond, the team showed that they could still achieve unusually large strains. However, the maximum strain achieved by the polycrystalline diamond needle was less than one-half that of the single crystalline diamond needle.

Yonggang Huang, a professor of civil and environmental engineering and mechanical engineering at Northwestern University, who was not involved in this research, agrees with the researchers’ assessment of the potential impact of this work. “The surprise finding of ultralarge elastic deformation in a hard and brittle material — diamond — opens up unprecedented possibilities for tuning its optical, optomechanical, magnetic, phononic, and catalytic properties through elastic strain engineering,” he says.

Huang adds “When elastic strains exceed 1 percent, significant material property changes are expected through quantum mechanical calculations. With controlled elastic strains between 0 to 9 percent in diamond, we expect to see some surprising property changes.”

The team also included Muk-Fung Yuen, Jiabin Liu, Jian Lu, Wenjun Zhang, and Yang Lu at the City University of Hong Kong; and Jichen Dong and Feng Ding at the Institute for Basic Science, in South Korea. alarmed at the mention of alcohol ( on company grounds no less ), minki turns to wenjun and shakes his head. "surely not, especially not when we're surrounded by staff... this doesn't feel like that type of event, wenjun." he does laugh though, because the idea of the two of them searching for things while getting slightly drunk or tipsy is kind of funny—he thinks he might do something stupid, he never exactly explored his alcohol tolerance in any capacity. usually, minki is the friend you can rely on as the designated driver when things get rough.

he turns his attention back to something that he thinks is a card now. "okay, here goes!" it's kind of stuck, and as he's pulling he's kind of scared that he'll tear it off on accident. eventually though, he managed to pull it out—even though he fell on his butt momentarily as he did.

minki is quick to sit back up, showing the card to his friend with his eyebrows furrowed. "there's writing on it it," he comments, noticing how there's something written on the card. "eat me, it says." he hums, blinking as if he's trying to see whether his eyes are playing tricks on him, despite this being something that he expected! "should we...? right now?" he questions, fully facing wenjun. "feels like we should! but eat what?"

he listens as minki speaks, and finds himself intrigued. "drinking. i don't handle alcohol well, hyung. hopefully it's just drinking soda or something... though i doubt they'd let us drink on company premises, right?" he laughs, going through every nook and cranny in an attempt to not be completely useless. "ah! hyung!" he beams, running over to minki as soon as he he hears what the older boy says. "yeah, i think you're right! pull it out hyung!"

things like - how she told him about the canteen next to the recycling center, and how these boxes would be just enough to get her a bowl of her favorite soup. i haven't had it in a while. my father and i used to go, but when he passed...

and things like - how he booked himself and wenjun a legitimate spa retreat, an expensive couples one at that, because he simply couldn't fathom disappointing wenjun with the truth.

which brings him here.

he steps up next to his 'date' and mimics fixing his own bangs in the window. after only a second of this, he catches wenjun's eye in the reflection. "oh, didn't see you there ~" a playful smile suggests otherwise. wenjun looks good - far better than his own white t-shirt and jeans fit - but he's certainly wearing a lot of nice clothes for something that requires .. well, taking them off. ah, it's fine. he'll just treat him to dinner after. maybe he's the one getting scammed here. "ready?"

spa shangri-la is right in the heart of hongdae, as the sketchy flyer had proudly indicated. luxurious, lots of couples, all is well until he realizes one major flaw in his plan: the reservation is under his card ... which is under his name. this next part is a bit inelegant. "hey so, why don't i go and get us checked in -" he tries to gently take the flyer from wenjun's hand. gently. "- and you can .. look at this frog."

wenjun’s come to the conclusion that he must have a sort of face – an aura that exudes something along the lines of ‘good guy to give discounts to!!’, or that the people here in seoul were generally more generous than those he’d encountered elsewhere. because he couldn’t quite understand why else he’d always be approached by others and offered items or services for a discounted price. 

this time it’s a spa package, and the elderly lady that had offered it to him had oh so kindly explained that she’d be willing to give him a two-for-one couple’s discount. it wasn’t actually like wenjun to go to the spa – he’d never been the type to pamper himself – but he also couldn’t simply say no, not when she’d been looking at him with such sad eyes and complaining about her aching feet ( and wenjun wasn’t the kind of guy to let an elderly lady suffer! ). 

it’s sort of a no brainer for him to ask rowon along. a spa seemed like a great way to relax after their tiring training regimen, and he’d wanted to be able to treat rowon to something nice. after all, rowon had always been someone wenjun liked, and wenjun had always enjoyed being in his company. it made the most sense for him to bring rowon along.

and so he finds himself standing there, waiting for rowon by a building near the dorms with the ( sketchy ) spa poster in his hand. he’s fiddling a little with his outfit, suddenly worried that he might be overdressed, or maybe even underdressed. 

he turns to look at his reflection by the window nearby, and begins fixing the bangs of his hair before he straightens out his shirt. it’ll be fun, he thinks, exciting even, to spend the day out with rowon – just the two of them, as they pamper themselves with the amazing spa package wenjun had gotten. he smiles to himself as he continues prepping his appearance, oblivious to his surroundings.

"i have a strong feeling that we can find something in here, you know...." minki says, walking over to the @lgcwenjun with a huff. "i heard that someone got a drink me card, and i was wondering what that meant. would it be attached to something...? would we have to drink something? is it a challenge? do we get something out of it?"

maybe he's overthinking too much, that is, until he sees a piece of paper lodged between the floors. "oh wait, wenjun... i think i see something?" he blinks, crouching down and leaning closer. is that what he thinks it is? is it time for curiosity to kill the cat?
