@resolutepath sent: Teeth grit as he clutches to the brim of his hat and offers a silent grumble towards the archon who deigned to deem him by the accursed name Hat Guy and how quickly such a title has spread over the nation of scholars. "Clearly the sand has gathered in your ears, for you seem to fail to comprehend my refusal to indulge your curiosity." He rounds upon the archer, folding his arms over his chest and tipping his chin up defiantly. "Is there nothing better to do with your days than chasing interest in superficial items? Now unless there was something better, I have papers to finish. Quit wasting my time."

It really is a stunning hat - the intricate details on it somehow foreign and familiar at the same time, the design so unique to this area, and not to mention the size of it: certainly big enough to hold more than just one little secret. (Least of all the story of the man wearing it.) How could he not be curious about it? "Sometimes the most superficial seeming things hold the most interesting stories," Sethos answers good-naturedly, not in the slightest deterred by Hat Guy's gruff reaction.

"And no! Today I have a lot of time at my hands to do what I feel like." It's not his intention to be a nuisance but his experience with city-dwellers has shown him that some just need a little push to warm up to a stranger - particularly someone from the desert. Not everyone can be persuaded into a chat, of course, but a lack of trying is nothing but certain rejection. Clearly either the topic of the hat is a touchy one or the principle of someone showing interest in his clothing in itself is what bothers the other, so Sethos decides to shift the conversation elsewhere for the moment.

"Papers? So you are a member of the Akademiya," he concludes. "Are you writing these papers or are you grading them?" He looks young, possibly too young to be a professor, but then again, intellectual prodigies are not a rarity in Sumeru and with a Matra general as young as Cyno, the idea of a young teacher is really not that outlandish.

Ah, that meant he had been spotted didn’t it ? Here he was audacious enough to believe he had gone undetected, it seems the hat-guy’s hostile glare was more perceptive than he had given him credit for. Sethos steps out from behind the stall with his hands raised, placating although it’s quite obvious that it will do little to quell that which seethes in the other’s narrowed eyes.

❝ Now, spying is a lil harsh don’t ya think ? ❞ his grin is amicable but the dissonance between them remains, unlike others who found Sethos’ disarming smile rather likable hat-guy still treated him with an unabating suspicion. He wasn’t up to anything, really !  ❝ can’t a guy just stop in to say hi to a friend while he’s out runnin’ errands ? ❞ he lifts a bag which corroborates his statement. There we go, he could’ve sworn he saw something ease just a little in the other’s expression. did he really think Sethos had enough time on his hands to relentlessly pursue him ? He was curious, enthralled even but he still had a tone of things that actually demanded his attention. ❝ I can even give you one, if you’re interested that is. ❞ and he procures a rather luscious looking fruit from within, tilting it this way and that which really emphasized just how succulent it was. ❝ You could say im turnin’ in a favour, that being a moment of your time ? trust me, totally worth it for a bite of this. ❞

No compulsion needed for this question, he would have answered it without hesitation. But perhaps it makes his response a little more elaborate. The question evokes a mental image of the young man in Sethos' mind, wandering through the streets like a ghost. "Honestly? There's just something about him. Have you met him? He's like a plant you suddenly see one day, somewhere in the middle of the desert, untouched by the heat and the sand and the storms - a vibrant blue or purple or some such color that stands out in a sea of beige. A color that wasn't meant to be there, right? Like something unafraid of being seen and being different because he holds some kind of inner strength or knowledge that no other mortal man is privy to. He could be a deadly poison or a panacea, you can't tell until you try. --Wouldn't you be interested in him too?"

"The more often I see him the more curious I am. I believe he has incredible stories to tell and unusual wisdom to share. I would like to know him in this lifetime - but I won't chase him if he wants to be left alone. I don't aim to get in his way, our paths have crossed by accident when I was in the city. --Alright.. maybe I'm chasing a little bit.

Also that hat is really very nice."
