lari's complaints don't move sage in the slightest. "just did," he brags, almost offering a grin. accepting their answer with a small nod, sage thinks about how both of their picks — which technically wasn't allowed per the rule he just made up that you can only name one song, but he decides it's whatever for now — have something common. "i don't think i knew you were into musicals," he informs lari. "okay, i'll tell you my pick if you tell me what you thought of the cats movie. final offer." and the only offer he's actually presented.

         lips  twist  up  as  they  ponder  sage’s  question  .  “  oh  dude  now  that’s  just  a  cruel  question  .  you  can’t  just  ask  me  to  pick  ONE  song  .  ”  lari  will  playfully  huff  ,  flopping  back  in  their  seat  .  “  el  tango  de  roxanne  would  slap  so  hard  on  that  ––  like  think  about  it  .  ewan  mcgregor  just  hitting  the  chorus  .  ”  eyes  close  as  they  imagine  it  .  “  that  or  anything  from  phantom  of  the  opera  ,  i  feel  like  it’d  go  so  hard  with  that  setup  .  what’s  your  pick  ?  ”

                     elias   finds   himself   near   the   entrance   of   the   house   party   ,   so   many   familiar   faces   ,   but   one   stands   out   like   a   goddamn   sore   thumb   —   larissa   macedo   .       gaze   locked   onto   theirs   ,   brown   eyes   flashing   with   a   mix   of   hurt   and   anger   .       and   of   course   ,   he   strides   over   ,   each   step   brimming   with   the   drama   he’s   known   for   ,   ready   to   confront   them   over   something   he   has   no   right   to   ,   but   firmly   convinced   he   does   .       “   well   ,   well   ,   well   ,   if   it   isn’t   the   one   and   only   betrayer   ,   the   smoocher   of   my   sworn   enemy   !   ”       with   an   exaggerated   sigh   ,   he   sidles   up   to   them   ,   adopts   an   overly   dramatic   tone   .       “   lari   ,   you   outdone   yourself   .       joey   ?       seriously   ?      again   ?       the   guy’s   a   dick   ,   and   let’s   not   forget   —   he   punched   me   in   the   face   .       what   is   it   with   you   ?       do   you   just   go   after   my   enemies   ?       i   mean   ,   who’s   next   on   your   hit   list   ,   sage   fucking   teller   ?       you’ve   got   zero   respect   for   our   sacred   childhood   bff   code   .   ”       he   punctuates   his   words   with   an   exaggerated   eye - roll   .       “   care   to   fucking   explain   yourself   ?   ”

sage heard many spiels as he was growing up about how the environment is in danger and capitalism is bad and something about fuck billionaires. back then he wasn't really able to recognize the tone deafness of his parents saying such things while they were shopping for a new yacht or buying his sister a whole new wardrobe every other weekend. "i think people like that ... " he nods towards the door, even though the discarded straw wrappers and crumpled receipts littering the ground are the only evidence that they were ever even there now. " ... tend to be more invested in the take than in the give. you think i'm onto something here ? " he asks lari, "or am i just, i dunno, being overly critical of people who are just trying to enjoy their kinda pointless but largely harmless hobby ? "

         they  can’t  help  but  puff  out  their  cheeks  as  it  turns  into  a  chuckle  .  that  was  definitely  one  way  to  get  the  morning  going  !  “  there’s  always  give  and  take  .  at  least  it’s  a  reusable  cup  and  they  get  a  whopping  ten  cents  off  their  next  drink  ,  ”  lari  jokes  .  “  unfortunately  the  anti-capitalists  can  stay  mad  .  haven’t  they  learned  to  accept  that  there’s  no  ethical  consumption  under  capitalism  ?  ”

sage nods his thanks as he collects the drink being offered to him. he answers lari's first question with just a shrug at first. though, he acknowledges that the universal stand - in for ' i don't know ' might not be a fitting response for once because really, sage would like to catch every single set. "don't know if it's 'cause i'm a journalist, 'cause i'm a music fan, or both, but i get serious fomo at these things when i don't go to do work stuff." despite his confession he's nodding at their suggestion to stop at one of the vip areas. "think we'll find roman and sofia there ? i haven't seen them in ... " sage quickly gives up on providing an actual number. " ... a while."

          head  bobs  along  with  the  music  as  they  make  their  way  over  to  sage  with  two  drinks  in  hand  .  she’s  attended  this  festival  since  the  very  beginning  and  is  always  pleasantly  surprised  at  the  turnout  .  this  year  takes  the  cake  especially  with  the  lineup  of  artists  .  “  anyone  in  particular  you  wanna  catch  ?  ”  they  ask  ,  handing  him  a  drink  .  “  i’m  gonna  catch  henri’s  set  but  that’s  not  until  later  so  i’m  thinking  of  just  chilling  in  the  vip  area  if  you’re  down  ?  ”

an uptick in the activity inside the cafe had drawn sage's attention from an apathetic trawl through his socials for something to keep him occupied as he waited for his beverage. he glanced towards the door, but the crowd had apparently moved fast. "at least the cups are reusable." he shrugs. "good for the environment. bad for anti - capitalists."

         leans  against  the  pillar  and  scrolls  through  their  phone  as  they  wait  for  their  order  .  eyes  dart  up  when  a  small  group  come  rushing  in  ,  snagging  the  cold  cups  and  tumblers  and  running  to  the  register  .  “  is  it  me  ,  or  was  that  a  little  intense  ?  ”  comments  to  the  person  next  to  her  .  “  i’ve  always  known  that  there  were  avid  cup  collectors  but  i’ve  never  seen  them  in  action  .  ”
