Each one is as easy for Johnson to hear as breathing. Rather, holding his breath. The act requires a temporary cessation of the self. Breath held—within that small, red caesura of his flap-flaring heart—he could hear. He does not hold his breath to listen. Their needs are always inseparably egocentric, banal: ugly. Stuck in them like fat in thighs.

He tries to forget about prayers, about the labor of breathing. Some prayers slip through (my mother is sick—, —this job—) as he stumbles back into a rhythmic respiration cycle. Johnson, almost glad for the focal point, concentrates on Elfgar. His entire head, his entire presence, is steered to him in one fluid movement. Johnson smiles; amused, first, by the voiced dissent. Then, by the fact that he so deeply agrees.

Openly, playfully public, only because he means it in every sense of the word: "I am not interested in possessing Mackenzie Knight. In truth, Elfgar, I seek the opposite. I believe you share this sentiment."

She'd been home for the better part of an hour, but hadn't managed to change out of her outfit for the night, immediately falling into a heap atop her bed and crying what remained of her makeup off. So, it's a flash of neon yellow and stubborn glitter that brushes past into his apartment without true invitation...unless you counted the singular ? that'd sent her banging on his door to begin with.

And to think that she'd nearly forgotten about the text that'd set all of this off.

Her laugh is unhumorous, heavy with unshed tears she refused to let fall in front of him. "So fucking funny, Mack! You sure got me! Because here I am, still somehow on beck and fucking call for you--I'm up!" Though this time, she swore, it was because of him, not for him. "Since you wanted to know so bad."

HOO BOY do i have feelings about this character. ofc Aziraphale is so loveable and wonderful & i do love him so much BUT he's complex in a way Crowley isn't. there's this bit of fic that sums it up really really well uhh here's the fic if anyone is wondering

he is so full of contradictions and thinking multiple things at once and mentally tying himself in knots to get himself to do things he Knows are the right thing to do (or even just. something he likes doing) which is such a fascinating thing to watch but also really heartbreaking if i think about it too much. like i love aziraphale and want to give him a big hug but also i want to argue with him sometimes. like in the 1827 minisode he is kinda a dick and absolutely zero-nuances the whole situation, but it's even worse because you can see exactly how he thinks what he's doing is right. i will defend his decision (key word decision!!) to go back to heaven forever because He Is Doing What He Thinks Is Right. he's also such a sweetheart, i too would like to live in a bookstore full of dusty old tomes & wear the same waistcoat for ~200 years.

How I feel about this character: God, she’s such a bitch (affectionate)! I adore her. I love how Fenris invites this sister of his into his life, and he obviously is expecting someone easy. Someone who has all the same opinions as him, and wants all the same things out of their relationship as him, and who doesn’t have any of the internalised racism or victim blaming tendencies that he himself onviously escaped Tevinter still carrying. But, nah! She’s exactly like him! Exactly as willing as he used to be to do whatever the nearest Magister tells her to do! With all the rage and resentment and ugly feelings of abandonment he has! It’s amazing! I think she’s so great <3

All the people I ship romantically with this character: Oh, this is more a thought exercise than actual ships. Have considered Varania/Feynriel as a possible ship, both because Varania social climbing off the half-elf somniari, and so Fenris and friends could be grossed out by her macking on someone they knew as a bratty teenager who wet his pants while they were rescuing him from slavers. Have considered Varania/Orsino and Varania/Briala for similar social climby reasons. I’m writing a bit of Varania/Isabela/Merrill into Seb fic, of course. I think I mostly put it in as a joke, because Fenris gives this monologue where he says that he and Isabela had an attraction but he felt he had to back off when Merrill got there first. So I thought it was funny to have his sister comparatively have zero qualms about trying to climb over Merrill to get to Isabela. Fenris is weaksauce compared to Varania in this way, lol. There's also this Branka/Varania ficlet I really like. Varania deserves so much better than dealing with Branka's shit but- lol. A fun crackship is a fun crackship.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Fenris. He deserves the full joy and suffering of family and siblinghood.

My unpopular opinion about this character: I mean... I love her? I think that in of itself is an unpopular opinion. I also think as much as the things she says to Fenris about how he asked for those brands and ultimately got the better deal of things is some highly noxious rape and slavery apologism, she is probably speaking more to the general voice and opinions of the Tevinter ex-slave population than he ever did over the course of the game. I do enjoy her like... making it very clear that he does not speak for her, or them, or anyone but himself.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: Less of the game's writers finding ways to justify femicide.
