( KATNISS EVERDEEN VERSE: ABRAHAM’S DAUGHTER. )

this AU is inspired by the song “abraham’s daughter” by arcade fire, featured in the first hunger games film. in this AU, katniss is a name that is not given to her at birth, therefore she has no real name in this verse.

“abraham’s daughter” was born to an unknown mother and a man who is simply known as “abraham”; a former soldier and coal miner - who was killed in a mine collapse when she was a little girl. “abraham’s daughter” was raised by her widowed mother, and taught herself to shoot with a bow behind her mother’s back - knowing the collapse of the mine her father died in was an inside job by the government, she wished to avenge her fallen father. 

when she was sixteen years old, she enlists herself in an underground army, and her skill with the bow was quickly recognized by higher ups. they would ask for her name, and would reply with “i have none”. they would ask her why and her answer would always be, “my father never gave me one.”. the reason she was nameless is unknown.

the day before the underground army would unleash its fury against the corrupt government, she was given a name, one her father never gave her - katniss, the name of an arrowhead-shaped leaf of the katniss plant. “abraham’s daughter”, now given a name, went to war.

shortly before the rebellion had won, the once nameless warrior was killed in an explosion after assisting innocents to their way to escape. her body, half-charred, was formally cremated on a pyre, her ashes buried in a field on the outskirts of the forest she lived in. over her grave, a statue was erected, depicting her as an angel with a bow, and a trail of fire behind her with every step. in the eyes of the rebellion, “abraham’s daughter” was a nameless martyr - and one soldier planted katniss plants by the statue in her honor.

 on the foot of the statue, a song is written on a silver plaque, telling her story. 

                    abraham took isaac’s hand, and led him to the lonesome hill.

     while his daughter hid and watched, she dared not breathe; she was so still.

    and as the angel cried for the slaughter, abraham’s daughter raised her voice.

               then the angel asked her what her name was. she said, “i have none”.

                                   then he asked, “how can this be?”

                                     “my father never gave me one”.

                        and with his sword up, raised for the slaughter, 

                                  abraham’s daughter raised her bow.

                                “how darest you, child, defy your father?”

                                       “you better let young isaac go.”
