It become impossible to not take notice of the young marine. Since their first clash, it seemed as if the brat would always make an appearance whenever the Roger pirates crossed paths with the Navy. Borsalino was eager, always making a beeline towards the Dark King who would fight him off with ease. He still had a long way to go before he could make Rayleigh sweat, but he wasn’t blind to the young man’s improvement with each encounter.

Rayleigh was not stupid. He could tell that Borsalino had a fascination with him, maybe even a need for acknowledgement and approval. Rayleigh just found it to be a very odd thing, for a marine to seek out the praise of a pirate. Odd, but amusing.

“Aye,” he said, reaching down to give some heavy pats to Borsalino’s shoulder. He had gotten taller since Rayleigh had last seen him and his strength had increased exceptionally too. In turn, Rayleigh had gotten more serious during their fight, but he perhaps had been a bit too excessive with his force. Rayleigh found himself speaking with the tone of a mentor, a role he slipped into with ease, “Wonderful. However if I may offer you a word of advice, you are relying far too much on your devil fruit. It is a powerful one and I am sure you will do just fine in your career if you keep carrying on this way... But it will never be enough to best me. Do not neglect cultivating your haki.”

He turned, heading back to where his crew was no doubt waiting for him on the Oro Jackson so they could leave. He raised a hand in farewell as he walked away, “Till we meet again, Borsalino-shonen!”
