It took all of Kimberly's willpower to get out of bed as she got ready to face on the day. Currently, she chose to not wallow up at home and instead head over to Feel the Beat Dance Studio to visit Shivani. It's been a while since she had attended classes and she would be doing a disservice if she didn't give her friend a heads up that her plans will be changing for a while. Stopping by her usual smoothie place, she picked up two drinks before heading towards the studio. "Shivi?" she called out as she entered the establishment. "I got us some smoothies...And was hoping if this was a good time to chat?"

Making her way into Lincoln Park, Gwendolyn re-read her messages and began searching for the landmark where she said she would meet Shivani. The two had set up time together to discuss some matters that needed to be brought to Gwen's attention. Approaching the bench with a tray of drinks, she took the seat next to the dance studio owner and greeted her with a warm smile, "Hope you weren't waiting too long?" Taking both of the drinks off the tray, she held them up to Shivani and said, "I wasn't sure what you wanted, so this one is tea and the other is coffee. Feel free to pick one, the mini packets of creamer and sugar are in my pockets, so let me know how much you need."

Lincoln walked up and took a seat across the table from where Shivani was sitting. He managed to catch a glimpse of her face as he walked by the cafe. An idea hitting him rather quickly the second he recognized her. "Hey--" He greeted, flashing pearly whites at his friend, "Listen, I hope I'm not interrupting something, but if you're just so happened to be free... I was wondering if you could help me with something?"

"Shivi--" LT called out as he spotted the brunette at a table as he was almost out of The Cozy Cup. His normal hot latte in hand, as he twisted towards her. "Question--" He began, as he pulled the chair out, something serious about his demeanor. Only to shatter it with his next few words, "I've been wondering... How long it actually take to get ones leg behind their head?" He asked, "Grant it that they're not born with the flexibility already." He bought the cup to his lips and took a sip, "Asking for a friend."

Jayden watched as the dance class let out; one of his football buddies beside him, and his toddler nephew in his arms; all three of them waiting for his sister, Cierra, to exit the class. Once she did, Tanner wiggled out of his uncles arms, forcing Jay to sit him down, and he raced towards his mother. "Mommy!" "Hi baby!" Cierra cheered as her toddler jumped into her arms, and she tighten her arms around the little boy. His football buddy, Keshawn, was also too focused on Cierra and Tanner; that Jayden bought his attention upon the woman who exited not too shortly behind Cierra. "Shivi, Shivi, Shivi--" He greeted, "Good evening, beautiful -- tell me, have you made any process with this fish out of water?" He asked, throwing his thumb up in the direction of his baby sister. "Shut up, Jayden -- you're mad that I can dance better than you." Cierra grumbled, as she sat her toddler back down, "In fact -- Shivani, if you're ever in the mood to work on lost causes-- I volunteer mr. football star, himself." "Second best out there." Keshawn chimed in, and Jayden chuckled, "Wow, -- do you hear this shit, Shivi? Your biggest haters are always those closest to you." He shook his head. "I wanna dance!" Tanner's little voice added after a moment, before then shaking his little butt and getting down as if there was a full performance waiting for him. "Look, Shivi! I dance!" He cheered, as he wiggled his little body.

After close at the shop, Ryat had decided he needed a drink. Maybe play some pool, bullshit with some randoms -- whatever. Therefore, he found himself entering Tric. His mind solely on that beer. That was until a figure caught his attention. He couldn't see her face, but he already knew who she was. He should, after all, he checked her out enough when Maddi was taking her dance class. What a waste that turned out to be, but at least, he got something nice to look at at that time. Making his way towards her, he'll plopped himself up next to her, "Well, Shivani--" He greeted, "Long time." Looking over his shoulder at the bartender, he'd order himself a beer, before turning his attention back upon the brunette. "What's you been up to? How's the studio?" He asked, his eyes dipping down to what she was wearing. It cung to her nicely. Bringing his attention back upon her face, he rose his brows, "Were you waiting for someone?"

"You're being too good to me right now, Shivi." Armi chuckled and shook her head, "You better watch yourself, or you're going to have me obsessed with you. And listen, that might sound good on paper, but in practice?" She laughed and shook her head, "Please forgive me, I haven't really had anyone love me like that in the way I deserve, so I'm a little questionable on it." Her tone was laugh and airy, implying she was teasing, but her statement was very much true. She just didn't care to let it dampen the mood. As their food was being placed, Armi focused firmly back on Shivani, giving her a nonchalant shrug at her friend's question, "I can't say all that much. Working, --- that's about it. Maybe drinking a little too much, but like -- that could be so much worse." She chuckled, "Tell me what's going on with you, daring? I hope your life has been so much more entertaining then mine."

“Well listen here Armi de Leon, I definitely want it,” she grinned at her friend, amused at the idea that while she’d previously dated her brother, now here she was professing her love for the sister. It was entertainment of the best kind as she sighed out loud and gave her another smile. “Why are you wounding me this way Armi? You’re doubting my ability to love you in the way you deserve? Say it isn’t so.” She sighed out loud before telling her once more that she had her undying love and that it would never change. “Sounds perfect to me,” hearing Armi agree to accepting her love had her grinning from ear to ear as they both walked into the restaurant and made their way to their table as led by the hostess. She ordered for both of them before looking across at her friend, “so—c’mon tell me what’s been happening in your life. I feel like we haven’t had a proper get together in ages.”

Bollywood Movies Part CCVIII

Inspector Jatil Yadav (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) investigates the murder of the influential Raghubeer Singh (Khalid Tyabji) on his wedding night to his young second wife Radha (Radhika Apte). As Jatil investigates, he learns more about Raghubeer’s proclivities and about family secrets long left undisturbed, including the truth about the death of Jatil’s first wife (Natasha Rastogi).

CW for movie: human trafficking, rape, sexual abuse of a minor, some gore. Raat Akeli Hai is a good whodunnit that gives us a satisfying ending, while also being a love story. I enjoyed Jatil and Radha’s interactions, but I loved the performances of Shivani Raghuvanshi and Padmavati Rao as the combative Vasudha (Raghubeer’s niece) and the reprehensible Pramila Singh (Raghubeer’s sister-in-law) respectively. Ila Arun was also good as Jatil’s mother who wants him to get married. Favorite song is Ghoom Charkhya (no subtitles).

Kaajal (Bhumi Pednekar) moves out from her cousin Dolly’s (Konkona Sen Sharma) place when Dolly’s husband Amit (Aamir Bashir) makes a move on her and leaves her hated factory job. To make ends meet, she starts working at an adult call center as Kitty and begins an affair with “Pradeep” (Vikrat Massey), one of her callers. Meanwhile, Dolly deals with trying to make ends meet for her and Amit’s new luxury apartment that under construction and with the backlash against her son Pappu (Kalp Shah) liking girly things.

CW: corporal punishment. Dolly Kitty aur woh Chamakte Sitare is a good film about two cousins and their lives. It does a good job talking about women experiencing sex and desire without punishing them for it. It also doesn’t shy away from showing the realities of the society they live in, but doesn’t make those realities disheartening. A great example of this is the call center and how all the women there support each other. Favorite songs are Neet Ve and Khwabida (audio only). Neither song has subtitles.

Akash (Aditya Roy Kapur) goes to local crime lord Sattu Bhaiya (Pankaj Tripathi) to help take down a sex video made of him and his ex-girlfriend Shruti (Sanya Malhotra) without their knowledge. Meanwhile, Aalu (Rajkummar Rao) tries to help the woman he loves, Pinky (Fatima Sana Shaikh), when she comes to him to help get her husband out of jail for being prime suspect in a murder Sattu Bhaiya committed. After being released from prison, Bittu (Abhishek Bachchan), Sattu Bhaiya’s former second in command, meets Mini (Inayat Verma) who has run away from home and agrees with her plan to pretend to kidnap her to get her parents’ attention. Rahul (Rohit Saraf), after being taken by Sattu Bhaiya for being near the murder, manages to get Sattu Bhaiya’s money with the help of nurse Sheeja (Pearle Maaney), but Sattu Bhaiya sends his goons after them to get his money back.

Ludo is an entertaining dark comedy that is structurally based on the board game ludo (more recognizable to Americans as Parcheesi). It was quite entertaining and funny, while also being heartwarming. I loved Bittu and Mini’s story because of how cute it was, especially when Mini prompts Bittu on how to make ransom calls to her parents. Overall, a fun romp. Favorite songs are Qismat Ki Hawa Kabhi Naram (originally from Albela), Aarbaad Barbaad, and Meri Tum Ho. None of the songs have subtitles.

"Listen--" Lincoln began as he made his way up to his friend, "I just had an idea." He told her, as he stepped in front of her and smiled, "What if--- we bring Rolo and Mungo here together? Get them dressed up? And spread some pride cheer?" Lincoln thought out loud, "Because you can't tell me the animals here today aren't fucking adorable in their pride stuff."

"Do you think we're crazy?" He asked, arching a brow, as his German Shepherd waltzed up to his side. "I mean, I know I've heard about play dates with kids, but like -- are dogs insane?" He wondered, "I mean, either way, I'm doing it. I'm just trying to gauge the level of insanity before hand." He smiled at his friend, "But I mean, if it was unheard of, they wouldn't have a dog park, right?" Lincoln wiggled his brows at his friend, "You ready?" The question was for Shivani, but Mungo took it as an opportunity to bark his response. Lincoln looked down at his pup, before back up at Shivani, and chuckled, "Think he's ready."

“That is true.” agreed Kimberly with a nod. It was nice to get those reminders when she least expects it, especially from a good friend. “Right...It has, but I guess I’m kind of scared that it’s growing into some big consequence that I’m not aware of yet.” Sure, no news is good news, but the repercussions of her actions would surely come in due time. Shaking her head, the heiress puffed her cheeks and added, “Or maybe I’m being completely dramatic, I guess only time will tell and technically I should be focusing on the present, nothing has happened and that’s what matters most.” The little pep talk was enough to build a bit of confidence in her life choice as she was trying not to completely psyche herself out, especially after what she had gone through. 

“You’re practically glowing!” mused Kimmie with a bright smile as she was ecstatic at the news. “I’m really happy for you." However, after hearing that Ariya had the same intention, the heiress rolled her eyes playfully and said, "We mean well and if anything you are lucky to have us by your side. But I trust you, and if he's worth it then we won't have anything to worry about." Glancing down at her watch, she noticed the time and realized that she had to head out for her nail appointment. "It was nice catching up with you Shivi, but I should head out as I have to get my nails done and of course give you your time back to set up for your upcoming classes..." Hugging her briefly, she then let go and said, "I meant what I said earlier...I still want to make that donation. Let's keep in touch and we can make the transfer happen, mmkays? Love you!"

Truly when Shivani woke up this morning, she hadn’t a clue that she was going to be told that her friend was actually an heiress. That news really did stun her, enough that she might be inclined on googling her later just to better understand the life and the world Kimberly came from. But for now—this woman in front of her had changed and she was still someone that Shivani regarded as a friend. She nodded as the other spoke about being overly independent and how these reminders helped her. “Well—you know you’ve always got me here to remind you,” she replied with a smile before hearing the other speak about her fears which had her honestly feeling bad because she didn’t expect her friend to be feeling this way. “No—I mean you said it’s been a couple years right? If there were repercussions of any type, they’d have happened, don’t you think?” She nodded as Kimberly spoke about being in a better place now that she was here in Wilmington and hoped that it was how it lasted for the other girl. 

When she admitted the development in her and Axel’s relationship, the flush on her cheeks was too be expected as the other cooed in her excitement. Sharing things like this with someone she regarded as a friend was so nice and she appreciated Kimberly’s words so much. “Thank you babe, and yes—I’m so happy, he just—he’s always been incredible as a friend and even now, I just—I don’t know how I got so lucky, if I’m being honest,” Shivani admitted these words cautiously as if she’d sound ungrateful because that was truly the last thing she felt. When Kimberly warned about him treating her right, she couldn’t help the soft chuckle before nodding, “you and Ariya both are so quick to threaten…but come on, he’s been my friend for all these years, he’s not going to hurt me.” Shivani said with a laugh, knowing full well that she could easily get over attached to him; even more than she currently was and that he definitely had the potential to break her heart.

"You know, how a few months back, I was telling you how quiet my house was..." He began, "And apart of me was bitching because it was so quiet... yeah, you were right when you told me to be careful what I wish for." He chuckled, Mungo laid at his feet, a leash wrapped tightly around his fist, "So-- I guess, what I'm asking..." He turned towards his face, "You got a spare room? Either for myself, a rebellious teenage boy, or a parole?"

Gwendolyn had a feeling Shivani would answer her inquiry that way. When emotions were heightened for someone you care for, the logistics wouldn’t matter at that point. Furthermore, Axel Huges was someone who she cared for deeply and it looks like she was willing to protect him as much as possible. A bias was already presented, but Gwen appreciated her efforts in trying to find a compromise for the City’s sake. “Fair enough, thank you for confirming.” replied the Chief of Police in an understanding tone. Taking a sip of her coffee, her mind was racing with endless questions on whether Axel had truly been responsible for what had been happening. Was he calculated enough to plan all this out? Shaking her head, she snapped out of her thoughts and reassured the dancer it was not a problem. “No need to thank me, this was all you. I know it was difficult to come forward with all this, but you’ve made an effort in taking a step in the right direction to ensure our community is safe.” Chuckling softly, she sighed as she understood where the other woman was coming from since she’d heard that all the time and said, “Of course, I pride myself in ensuring those coming forward feel like they’re in a safe space to share such things. If there’s anything you need, case related or not, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me.”

Being in this situation with Gwen hadn’t been something Shivani had ever anticipated, mostly because well she’d never thought she’d have information like this to share with the other. She nodded as she sipped the drink Gwen had brought out for her before she looked up at the other question. She could of course remember those red x’s on so many establishments but did she want to tell her? Not really…however she knew if she kept it—it could be seen as withholding evidence and so she took a deep breath and shrugged. “I don’t feel like any of it really made sense, just some places in the map that had X’s on it. I don’t know what that meant and honestly…I didn’t really want to ask.” She’d been too stunned by the revelation of all the lies in the first place. Shivani nodded when Gwen told her that she could reach out to her with more information that she remembered before she looked up as Gwen told her something she hadn’t realized she needed to hear. She was so thankful to the other woman for deciding to speak to him before making it official. “Thank you so much Gwen, really…” she took a deep breath before nodding once more and smiling as much as she could which wasn’t much given the situation that brought them together. “I hope it helps…and you catch whoever is behind all this but I really selfishly hope he has nothing to do with it.” With a pause she looked back at the other and nodded, “thank you also for agreeing to meet with me and not have it be at the police station, I feel like that might’ve intimidated me more…”
