Okay so just reread Belladonna for the 100th time lol. But I was wondering if you had an idea of how the reader came to be part of the crows. It says she was in the second army with Nina at one point, but that’s the only info we get about the readers past.

Like when did she come to Ketterdam? Was it before or after Nina? How long was she in the second army? It’s possible based on the timeline in the books that (depending on how long she was there) she had been around for everything that happened in Shadow and Bone and such. When and how did Kaz recruit her?

If you left it open for the readers to decide I totally understand, I was just curious if you had planned it. Also hope you’ve had a good weekend!

i do have a little backstory in my head but i kinda left it open bc i was scared people would think it was too out there or strange or whatever

but, because it’s u that’s asking for it, lovely 🗝 i’ll share it regardless :)

so, i imagined y/n grew up in keramzin. she’d be there at the same time as alina and mal, but they never interacted with each other. on the day of the testing (y’know the one where alina fakes an injury to stay with mal) y/n is discovered to be a corporalki and is taken from there to the little palace

when there, she is presented with the choice to become either a healer or a heartrender and she obviously chooses the former. i haven’t thought her thought process for it out that much (yet) but i kind of imagined it having to do with her parents and the way they died and her thinking that she could’ve healed them if she’d discovered her powers earlier and yada yada ya

so, she’s at the little palace and meets nina! the two get along really well and build up a little friendship and stuff — with y/n teaching a few healer tricks to her and nina teaching a few heartrender tricks as well :)

the two serve in the second army together for a while until y/n is approached by the darkling — her rapid progress and firm determination in class caught his eye and he then makes her his head healer

she works for him for a while & unfortunately her friendship with nina starts to falter. one day, the darkling confides in her about his plans and stuff which eventually causes her to leave his ass on the curb — he’d send her on a mission to ketterdam, and y/n simply never returned

when in ketterdam she goes to this little inn or whatever & hears a lot of commotion on the stairs. so, she opens the door to her room to investigate and finds someone heavily bleeding, trying his best to get up the stairs — guess who? it’s our fave gambling addicted sharpshooter who got shanked after not paying his debts

so, y/n hesitates before inviting jesper in and she eventually heals him, not before making him promise not to tell anyone she’s a healer

spoiler; jesper does tell someone, and not just someone but the mf basterd of the barrel who eventually goes to see her & recruits her into the dregs :)

also idk how it would work in the show bc this is kinda more book based? idk it would work better in the books i think with the 2-3 year time skip from shadow and bone — i’ll have to brainstorm about the show version of it
