Summary: Marc and Emma arrive in the same wing of the same mental hospital at the same time. Author's Note: I recently finished reading Tear Down My Reason by @my-secret-shame-but-fanfiction and it inspired me to work on an idea I've been playing with about Emma and the Boys meeting while both in a mental hospital at the same time. I wanted to write a series that would help other people with severe mental illness feel seen and heard as there really AREN'T works out there like this. This series is being written with a lot of love and care so I truly hope that it can be cathartic for those who read who might also live with mental illness because you DO matter and your story DOES deserve to be told. They’d been admitted the same night, after lights out, two frozen bodies sitting in the darkened day room waiting to be assigned a bed.

It was unusual for two people to land in the same wing at the same time, let alone this late at night but that’s just how it happened.

She sits quietly, fully believing she’s in some kind of limbo between this life and the next – that somehow this was just how her brain was processing her passing, waiting to be judged.

She wonders if the man, slumped in the chair half a dozen feet from her is also recently deceased. Or so she believes.

He seems sullen and she wonders if perhaps he’d taken his own life to end up here in this seeming waystation.

Despite his deep scowl, she finds him beautiful. And then she thinks to herself, maybe he’s an angel and it’s some kind of test to see how she’ll interact with him.

As his eyes rise to hers, his frown etches further into his features. “You're staring…” He mutters, rolling his shoulders tensely.

“Sorry—” Emma apologizes, tearing her eyes away. “I was just—wondering if you were okay…” She mumbles softly.

“Would I be here if I were okay?” He replies.

Emma confuses his meaning, again thinking maybe this in the afterlife. And again, she thinks he must’ve taken his life.

‘Marc—come on, she seems sweet…’ A voice in his mind says, whose worried expression reflects from the window to the hallway.

“How can you possibly tell that, Steven?” He mutters again.

When he speaks to someone that doesn’t appear to be in the room, she starts to turn the options over in her mind.

Maybe he’s hearing voices like she started to this morning before…before it happened…

Or maybe she just can’t see the person he’s speaking to because that person is on a spiritual plane she can’t comprehend yet.

Still, she’s sure it’s all a test.

“Who is Steven?” she asks gently, trying to help.

Marc’s eyes flash to hers again, that seem to look on him with such an innocence that even he can’t see her question as malicious.

“Is he here too?” She asks, looking confused but somehow so compassionate.

This in turn confuses him.

‘I don’t think she’s here for the same reason we are, mate…” Steven says within their headspace, looking at the girl with such soft regard.

There’s a small pout at Marc’s lips as he studies her. She radiates a kind of sensitive and soothing energy that belongs far away from a place like this.

He can’t help but soften along with Steven.

Another presence moves into focus in their shared space. He takes one look at the girl and feels his own protective nature kick in.

‘Who’s this?’

Marc doesn’t realize how long the silence has lingered between them until Jake speaks.

All the while, she continues looking softly at him, occasionally shying away her eyes.

“It’s okay if you don’t want to tell me…” Emma breaks the silence.

Marc shakes his head slowly, somehow finding himself more worried about her than he is about himself at this point.

“What’s your name?” He asks, tempering his voice.

She swallows, tucking some hair behind her ear. “E-Emma…” She rolls her lips in, causing dimples to dip lightly into her cheeks as her eyes glance away shyly again.

Jake watches stunned from the reflection beside Steven.

He doesn’t know where it comes from, but he only softens more. “I’m Marc…” he introduces himself.

Emma eyes rise to his again, nodding slowly.

Her mind is already moving on, asking quietly, “do you know how long we’ll be here?”

Marc mistakes her meaning, just assuming it must be her first time on a psychiatric hold.

“72 hours—they have to—”

Emma’s already talking over him, more to herself but audible enough for the three of them to hear. “Three days? Like Easter?” She wonders aloud.

Marc’s eyebrows pull together, his mouth hanging open a little. “huh?”

“Easter—” Emma repeats. “Jesus came back to life after three days…”

‘Oh I—Marc I don’t think she knows what’s happening at all…’ Steven tells him.

Marc blinks slowly, but continues to soften, “do you know where you are right now, Emma?”

She shakes her head quickly and her shoulders pulling up to her ears, “I think it’s—well it’s kinda like limbo, right?” She pauses, furrowing her own brow. “We’re waiting to be judged…” She does her best to explain.

An ache goes through his chest, somehow his situation seems to pale in comparison with hers.

“No, Emma—” He starts, but is abruptly cut off when the floor staff comes to collect her first.

Fear seems to come over her face and it’s all he can do to stay in his chair, knowing that causing a scene would end badly for one or both of them.

“I’ll see you tomorrow—okay?” Is all he can get out.

“Tomorrow?” Emma questions in a daze.

“Come on, Emma—let’s get you settled…” The woman ushers her out of the door. “Someone will be back for you in a minute, Marc.”

This does nothing to ‘settle’ Marc at all, in fact, even after they get him situated in a room he still can’t stop worrying.

And so there he lies, in the dark on his side in a twin sized bed that feels a little too small, wrapped in thin hospital blankets, unable to get his mind off of the beautiful girl somewhere in a room along the same hallway.

The same beautiful girl who likewise lies in the dark, wondering over an angel named Marc and what will come of her.

Of one thing was certain for both of them, sleep wouldn’t come so easily tonight.

omg! I agree completely with the anon that said Jake's visibility on Nicola's account is WHY they're not dating. Sure she could've changed her stance but she's still talking about wanting her relationships private, she said that at the Harpers BAzaar event, her latest tag on IG also talks of her compartmentalising her private life. We don't even see her hangs with Camilla (which used to be weekly) on her IG, we only see Camilla in her official capacity as Big Mood creator friend.

and if she had this private account when she had a couple 1000 followers of course her privacy concern would be amplified megafold when thousand turned to millions. Though I do think there's something going on with her and Luke, I'm more than certain she's not with Jake. She might be single, with Luke with some random 3rd person but not Jake, for sure.

I have the need to share a list of my favorite characters and my sub categories for them (which is split into three things, 1 favorite characters that I can't put through the horrors cause then I'll feel bad, 2 characters I COULD put through the horrors but I'm not fully inclined to do that, and 3 characters I can and will put through the horrors) plus some extra characters at the end (also I found out the hard way on this post that there's a 30 tag limit here... I think I have a problem I like too many characters)

First off characters I can't put through the horrors cause then I'll feel bad:

Mia Winters: wife.... (Although she gets put through stuff but not enough for me to consider the horrors)

Angela orosco (remake), Anya (mouthwashing), Zoe baker, and Daisuke (mouthwashing): they've been through enough I think they need a cozy therapist, some food, and a nice vacation.

Missing kids (FNAF), Evan Afton, regular Elizabeth Afton, Gregory, Cassie, Eveline, young Sherry Birkin, and Laura (silent Hill 2 remake): they're kids and I would feel so fucking bad putting them through the horrors plus most of them already have gone through the horrors (I may have missed some characters I like that go in this category)

Swansea (mouthwashing), jack baker, and Marguerite baker: they're old and have been through enough I wanna let them have a nice time for once

Characters I could put through the horrors but haven't exactly wanted to:

Piers nivans: love him but also I haven't really thought of any horrors to put him through (although this may change at some point)

Curly (mouthwashing): I wanna give him some nice things and let him kind of redeem himself but out of the mouthwashing crew he would be the one I'd put through the horrors

Rebecca Chambers: I need to play re0 before actually putting her through any horrors

Adult Sherry Birkin: despite the fact that she's one of Leon's unofficial daughters she's one of the few people near leon that has been spared from the horrors (there's a reason there's her as a kid and her as an adult on this list and I'll probably talk about it in another post)

Claire Redfield: I put her through the horrors one time and don't have much else for her to go through (although like all resident evil characters that are on this list that can change at any moment)

Ada Wong: she's too badass to actually get into a situation where the horrors happen... Maybe one day

Luis Serra: he's cool enough for me to bring him back to life but not cool enough to escape my potential grasp

Ethan Winters: he's just so easy to put through the horrors I mean have you seen his face

Leon s Kennedy: idk he just lached onto my brain and won't let go so I said "fuck it why not" and now he's even more fucked up than he originally was in the first stages of the resident evil section of my au

Chris Redfield: I hate him/j he gets a free ride on account of being Leon's boyfriend and also I have fake beef with him

Ashley Graham: free ride on account of her being Leon's other unofficial daughter

Helena harper: I like her and really wanna do something with her but I can't think of anything

You claim to believe that they are in relationships with other people. Can you provide the reasons why. I know why I believe they are not and are currently with each other. If Luke was with A and Nick was with JD would we have seen the magnetic touchy feely behaviour between Nic and Luke. NO that would have been rude and disrespectful to their relationships. Would Nic have been carrying a Polaroid of Luke on her phone for all the world to see? NO that would be disrespectful. Would she have had special Claudagh ring designed to commemorate season 3 with the hands displaying rings like Luke’s? NO that would be disrespectful. Would Luke completely ignore and not acknowledge the person who he was papped with allowing her to get bullied if he was in relationship and in love with her. NO that would be disrespectful.

what I am getting at is I obviously do not know them outside what we see on SM and what they choose to show us. Everyone who has met them has said how wonderful and kind they are. Nicola keeping personal pictures on display and wearing rings in a relationship status that relate to a season 3 and Luke is very telling. So are the interviews articles cast and crew who ship them Tabloids and adjacents are just noise and misinformation. You have your right to your opinion. But do yourself a favour ignore anything else. Listen to Nic and Luke.

I understand and respect your opinion, and honestly, I even hope you’re right. Please bear with me as this might be a long response.

Like I said, I still believe in the chemistry Nic and Luke shared during the press tour, but to be honest, my delulu has been fading over time. Some say this isn’t a big deal, but it is to me. It’s taken a toll on my time, my emotions, and even my mental health. After a few reality checks, I started stepping away from all the theories and just went with what I saw, always hoping Nic and Luke are endgame.

After the Italy trip in August, we all thought Luke and Antonia had finally broken up. I was even waiting for that unfollow any second. But then he dropped the Marbella pictures, and there were so many questions surrounding that trip because of the story she posted. Still, I turned a blind eye and ignored her. Then came her post in October with random summer pictures, including one of the same Marbella hotel Luke was at. By then, I had to accept that they probably went on that trip together in August or the first week of September.

Time went on, and we saw Antonia hanging out with Sienna and Charmaine, who are still Luke’s friends. The most recent thing was the picture a fan shared of Luke at a restaurant in Italy on November 17th, and Antonia posted a story almost at the same time from the same restaurant. To me, that says they’re still together—unless something has changed in the last three weeks.

Now, regarding Nic and Jake, there’s so much to unpack. I was on cloud nine at the beginning of October, thinking Nic and Luke were both in New York. The theories had me reeling. But once again, reality hit when pictures of Nic and Jake in New York came out—not just any pictures, but the first video of them holding hands. I was heartbroken.

We’d seen them together before at the festival, but I thought they were just friends. After the New York pictures, Nic shared a story tagging Jake’s second IG account —most likely because he took the picture. Then, the pap pictures of them hugging and holding hands after a night out in London surfaced. I couldn’t believe it.

October broke my heart so many times I had to rethink how, and if, I wanted to be involved in the fandom. It all became too much.

Since then, we haven’t stopped seeing Nic and Jake together. Even at the Harper's Bazaar event, we could see that she has him as her wallpaper, with the most recent sighting being at Charli XCX’s concert on November 28th.

I know some people think Antonia is lying and trying to make it seem like she and Luke are together when they’re not, but I can’t for the life of me understand why she would do that. There’s no reason for her to fake it. And as for people saying Jake is gay—that’s a conversation I’m not willing to have because, in my opinion, someone’s sexuality is: 1) none of my business and 2) not open for discussion.

It deeply saddens me because the age gaps in both relationships are something I’m not a fan of, but I know that’s just my personal opinion. I have no right to judge their lives or how they choose to live them.

I don’t ship Nic with anyone else but Luke, and vice versa, and I’ll continue to support them despite how I feel about the age gaps.

So yeah, this is why I believe they’re currently in relationships with other people while still remaining friends. And I’m hopeful that time will bring Nic and Luke together because I wholeheartedly believe they’re meant for each other.

Summary: Steven takes ridiculously good care of Emma while she's having a rough mental health moment. Author's Note: Was gonna do some more angst and then I just couldn't last night. This piece had been sitting in my wip drafts for a bit. This one does again, tap on the psychic connection between Emma and the boys that is prevalent in most of my works. They are deeply connected and can communicate telepathically, empathetically, etc. You'll notice Emma is able to hear everything in their minds and vice versa. Word Count: 771

She can feel her mind’s instability, her brain seeming to be sore and weak. As the overstimulation begins to take over more, her breath begins to get more shallow.

Everything is too loud, too bright even as she puts in her earbuds and turns on some music known for its nervous system regulatory effects. She hides her face beneath a pillow to get away from the light.

“You’re up, Steven,” Marc says quietly as he makes his way down the hallway, relinquishing control of the body.

Steven freezes for a moment as he adjusts, mumbling, “Cheers, mate...” He doesn’t pause again until he slides up behind her in the bed, kissing her shoulder firmly.

‘Hello, love…’ he murmurs in her mind softly.

Emma’s quick to scoot back into him, settling into his arms as she tries to focus on any one thing.

He tightens his arms around her, giving another slow kiss to the nape of her neck. He breathes deeply against her, settling a hand onto her abdomen as if silently encouraging her to breathe with him.

She follows suit almost immediately, taking in each inhale with him and releasing it on his exhale.

She squeezes her eyes shut tighter, clutching the pillow over her eyes more snugly.

Steven’s thumb gently grazes over her stomach, releasing a soft sympathetic sound as he attunes himself to her presently chaotic mind.

‘You’re alright, angel—we’ll pull through just like we always do…’ His warm voice resonates through her mind, not wanting to overwhelm her even more.

At his words, she shifts to face him, hugging herself tightly to his front and hiding her face in his neck. One of her earbuds falls out and he’s quick to retrieve it and return it to its place.

He then begins rhythmically stroking his fingers up and down her spine, tucking his head over hers protectively.

Minutes pass as he continues to do what he can to soothe her overstimulation. Truthfully, he’s not sure it’s as effective as he hopes but he doesn’t stop.

She takes what seems to be a much deeper breath on her own, as well that her body seems to unwind a little.

He's relieved to say the least as she continues to slow down, her thoughts quieting.

Emma can feel a low buzz resonating out through her spine into the rest of her body, likewise traveling up into her brain. It feels so nice and so peaceful—not to mention familiar, that she starts to wonder.

She frowns lightly, shifting back away from him just enough to face him.

“Steven…”

“Hmmm?”

“Are you—…did you just—”

His scowl of concentration matches her own, suddenly more worried again, “what is it? Are you alright?”

“Yeah,” She murmurs, a little stunned, “it just felt like you were—…performing reiki…on me…”

“Oh bollocks, did I do it wrong? I was just—I mean—I thought it might ‘elp ya know—take the edge off and—bugger, I didn’t ask for consent first and—”

“Steven—Steven!” She calls gently to him, shaking her head and putting a hand to his cheek. “You didn’t do it wrong…and it did help…” She reassures him, giving him a soft smile.

“When did you learn how to do that?”

“Well, I just—y’know—I find so much of well—what you do, absolutely fascinating and I figured—‘f one ‘ve us knew how to do some of the healing bits it might help, what with y’know your conditions…’course Marc could do with some bloody healing t—”

She can’t help but beam at him as he rambles, silencing him before he can finish by rushing forward to catch his lips.

Steven’s eyebrows shoot up, his lips forming to hers in surprise but quickly moving firmly against them.

His eyes squeeze shut tighter as he shifts to pull her closer, almost completely forgetting everything else for a split second before retreating. Stumbling quietly, “maybe we shouldn’t, ya know…--I mean you aren’t feeling well…”

Emma rolls her lips in, the dimples dipping into her cheeks, her lashes fluttering shyly as she tells him softly, “thank you…”

When she gives him that look, he all but short circuits, getting stuck on her with a lopsided grin at his mouth, half in a daze, “For what, love?”

She pokes him in the chest a few times, timidly, “you know what…”

Quietly in their minds they can both hear a smug, ‘Steven Grant, King of Calm…’

Emma’s eyes flash down, trying to conceal a smile and failing as her cheeks begin to heat.

‘Oh yeah—overstimulation doesn’t stand a chance…’

{ Scenes That Need Writing #1 }

I need to write the scene where the first time Jake says something in Spanish-- because he's been trying to speak mostly in English with Emma-- it's kinda at length cause he's upset about something or was worried about her and then he stops mid-rant to go "I'm sorry-- I know you don't understand--" and she cuts him off and goes, "the language piece?" cause she's already pulled that from what he was going to say next and he deflates and goes, "yeah..." not realizing she's just read his mind and pre-empted him and then she lowers her voice to imitate him and puts on her best grumpy Jake impression, and repeats back everything he just said during his rant, in English perfectly down to the last syllable, and he's just kinda winded looking at her in shock like, "high school Spanish?" and she does the little shrug, rolls her lips in, and her dimples-- Dimple, and she shakes her head, saying In Baby, "no...psychic...I just...--read you..." and she starts to say, "thank you for worrying--" but big bubba is already rushing in to kiss her and stops her mid-sentence. And just cause I had a friend ask -- basically because she's telepathic and reading his mind, even though she doesn't speak Spanish herself, he does, and so since he knows what he's saying, she inherently knows what he's saying as well, as if automatically translating via psychic understanding.

Another shot rings out. Marc follows the line of shot and finds the Punisher sitting pretty up there on a perch. The shots aren't necessarily damaging the creature, but it's definitely doing some distracting. Limbs fall off and grow anew. They litter the streets up until they get consumed by that slimy green substance. Meanwhile, Marc tries to join the fray as Spider-Man swings past him. "Oh, hey! Moon Knight's here, guys!" Spider-Man announces. It's not quite loud enough for the others to hear unless they have enhanced hearing, so he assumes that they've all got a comm in their ear, at the very least. Marc's heard talks from Jake that a bunch of red-costumed heroes and vigilantes have teamed up as of late. New York's being overrun by heroes and vigilantes. Kingpin wasn't happy about that, but that smear campaign is always the loudest thing in the room. But as he watches them all move around, it strikes him that they know each other better than the rumors suggest. Arsenal is covering for Red Hood, who in turn covers for Daredevil. The Punisher comes up from over their collective shoulders, taking care of the smaller creatures that move along without a care.
