where: gen's place who: @genevievericci & lydia donovan
"Landon asked me to bring this to you," Lydia rummaged through her tote bag, carefully retrieving a folder containing a thick piece of paper with a painted portrait that, with enough squinting, vaguely resembled the woman before her. "He was assigned to create portraits of all his family members in his art class. Believe it or not, this one was actually one of the better ones," she chuckled with a hint of amusement, tilting her head as she examined the painting. "I don't foresee art shows in his future, but he's really good at baseball, I swear!"
She placed the image on the counter and turned her attention back to her former sister-in-law, a warm grin appearing on her cheeks. "Are you doing okay? I can't imagine how you're feeling; that's such an invasion of privacy to put you in that position."

@genevievericci
When he saw her, Elliott gently pulled her to the side, knowing full when the woman wasn't going to stick around for long - she never did. But he needed to know now, not at another meeting, not sometime within the week. The time was now.
Of course, he assessed her first, making sure she wasn't hurt. "You're okay." It wasn't a question. When he was sure there was no one around, he finally voiced what was on his mind. "Dante? Our Dante?"

WHERE: Two Kings Casino WITH: @genevievericci
Part of having the charity ball at the casino meant that Lincoln, as a co-owner, had to make his rounds and find a moment to speak with everyone– which ordinarily wasn’t an issue for the youngest Riley. He was sociable, possessed enough charisma to hold a meaningful conversation, but still, he couldn’t deny the idea that he wasn’t particularly looking forward to speaking with Genevieve Ricci. It wasn’t a knock on her, not really– it stemmed mostly from Lincoln’s distaste towards her husband, and the way he’d casually suspected Link of trying to sabotage him. He couldn’t help but wonder if his wife shared those suspicions or if she wasn’t the paranoid old fuck that Giovanni was. Taking up residence beside her at the bar, Lincoln offered up a curt smile and nodded, “Mrs. Ricci,” he addressed, keeping his tone light and even, “How are you enjoying the ball? Tried any of the house wine?”

Closed: @genevievericci – Appointment at Lavished Lacquer.
Never in a million years did Olivia think she would be in the position that she was. Being pregnant so young felt somewhat of a disadvantage, on top of trying to navigate the world with her reading and processing challenges. Seventeen-year-old Liv would never have thought herself to be a successful businesswoman. As owner she was taking on a lot more administrative tasks under her belt, which limited her windows in which she could actually interface with the clients. It's why Tuesday, Thursdays, and Saturdays she had those days solely to see them. Her chairs alone were booked until the end of May and it only reassured her that her connection and time spent with them was worth it. Today, she had the pleasure of working with Genevieve. A fashion icon if the Sinclair ever saw one.
"So, yeah...Mia had a lovely Christmas although I think everyone else around her was sad because she no longer believes in Santa," she chuckled as she sectioned out the next portion of the Ricci's hair. "How about you? Were you able to enjoy the holidays?"

WHO: @genevievericci LOCATION: Bountiful Harvest Vineyard & Winery
Events were the perfect place to put on a show. The Riccis were doing just that, pretending to be a happy, loving couple when that couldn't be further from the truth. Keeping up appearances was paramount, however, which was why Giovanni was showing his face here in the first place. They'd done plenty of small talk up to that point, and as the night carried on, he found himself needing something to help him get through it. Leaning into Genevieve's ear so only she could hear him, he said, "I'm thinking of grabbing some wine, if you'd like to accompany me inside."

where: the mayfair who: @genevievericci & lydia donovan
"Hey, Gen," Lydia greeted her former sister-in-law as she walked through the door to the hotel room, immediately enveloping her in a warm embrace. Her face was still red and blotchy from the crying spells she'd been falling into over the past twenty-four hours, but in that moment all she felt was exhaustion -- and part of her wondered if there were any more tears left in her body to shed. With a shaky exhale, she offered Genevieve a tight lipped smile before pulling away, dropping her bag on a nearby table as she peered around the room. "Frank's very sweet," she said, complimenting the driver. "Y'know, it's funny, I haven't been in one of these hotel rooms since Elliott and I were together. He finally changed the damn wallpaper." Rubbing her hands together anxiously, she finally turned to Gen.
"So? What is it you wanted to talk about?"

articles about the “wild new trend” of piercing from the late ‘50s and early ‘60s are fascinating to read. a selection of excerpts:
- one doctor cautioned that girls with pierced ears would be “required to constantly wear earrings to hide the holes in their heads” (or you could just not be weird about a tiny dot on someone else’s earlobe?)
- Genevieve Dariaux, then director of the Nina Ricci couture house, said in 1965 that “Pierced ears are unthinkable for an elegant woman, and even more dreadful for a young girl.” bear in mind that, as I’ve said, earrings that made your ears LOOK pierced were still common. what the difference was, nobody has yet made plain
- lots of evidence that going to a doctor was the preferred “safe” method for piercing at the time. but many doctors refused to do it, or said they would but that they strongly discouraged patients from having the procedure done. this checks out with my mother’s experience in 1965- her schoolmate’s anesthesiologist father did free piercing for all his daughter’s friends
- some teenagers around 1965 called clip and screwback earrings “chicken earrings” (implying that the wearers were too scared of pain to get their ears pierced, I think)
- one advice column, also from 1965, implied that pierced ears were just a passing fad. the previous several centuries of western history would like a word, Mx. Columnist...
- A GIRL WITH RESTRICTIVE PARENTS BRINGING UP THE ARGUMENT THAT HER GRANDMOTHER HAD PIERCED EARS. YES. FINALLY SOMEONE REALIZED THE LOGICAL FALLACIES HERE. the argument against that is, indeed, a sort of “that was the Bad Old Days and we know better now” deal as some other commenters have hypothesized
- one article mentions that the trend could be part of the Victorian revival that was just becoming popular in the mid-60s, which is a fascinating thought I’ve never considered before
- many doctors complaining that they were suddenly being called upon to pierce ears despite not really knowing how. this is interesting, because before the Great Ear-Piercing Taboo, jewelers offering piercing services were more like modern piercers than Claire’s employees (and doctors weren’t involved at all unless an infection set in). descriptions I’ve read of Victorian piercer-jewelers mention a lot of things we’re familiar with today- needles designed with a hollow for inserting the starter jewelry, for example, and even “freezing” solutions to numb the earlobe. so in those early resurgence days, going to a long-established jewelry store for your piercing might actually have been a better option than a doctor’s office
- two young women in a 1964 Canadian article (from Calgary) mention that they think screwback earrings look cheap and gaudy, and the pierced version is more conservative and tasteful, in an interesting reversal of mainstream thought
- a newspaper columnist saying pierced ears give him “the wim-wams,” so they are to be avoided. whatever the hell that means
- a LOT of people seem to think that ear piercing was popular in the Victorian era because wealthy women didn’t want to lose their expensive jewelry. sorry folks- my collection of Victorian costume earrings (all pierced) says otherwise
- much confusion as to why modern girls want to do something so old-fashioned
- one woman marvels at how comfortable it is to wear earrings in pierced ears, as opposed to clips and screwbacks. I feel infinitely blessed, as an earring-lover, to have been born when I could escape the scourge of ear-vises altogether
- apparently an eccentric elderly man on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia, literally bribed all the women of the community to pierce their ears because he liked the way it looked. one of them mentioned that she held out for $25- $244 CAD or $188 USD in today’s money. all because some rich Victwardian codger had a very specific fetish
- this absolutely incredible response of an Indian diplomat’s wife when asked, in New York, why she wore a diamond nose stud: “Because I feel [diamonds] become me more than rubies or emeralds.” QUEEN
- “when the fad changes, as it indubitably will-” are you certain of that, ma’am

PART I
One thing rang true and that was the prediction of the brutal blizzard of November 28th. Everyone prepped the best they could with the remembrance of how last Winter had ruthlessly blanketed their homes. There’s a frenzy for backup generators that get bought up in the Chicago stores for the anticipation. The first ominous whistle of the wind, and the pebbles of ice fall on the eve of Thanksgiving. Power flickers in each home giving them a moment of awkward darkness, before the backup generators kick in. The power companies in the city promise to have everyone serviced, but they start to service the scattered patches on the outskirts of the city first .
Most joked that was the brutal blizzard they had prepared for, until Mother Nature dropped her poker face. The ships with cargo became stuck in the harbor due to the icy fortress that froze over the gigantic lake. No lights of passing planes in the sky, as the wind turned into a sinister howl. Darkness engulfed the entirety of the city, except for a strip of hotels in neutral territory. The footmen of the families alert them that there seem to be only a handful of hotels that seem to be around. Meanwhile the temperature dips in the homes of those unlucky, and they must face a brash decision to not become the ice sculptures akin to the people of Pompeii.
Multiple phone calls are done, and just as their phones are about to die they get a booking. A hotel that mentions that the accommodations might be crowded -- However, they can host your groups and promise warmth as long as the storm doesn’t shut them down. Everyone packs up their children, pets, and housemates to journey to the only solace that isn’t sold out in all Chicago.
After a restless eternity everyone was given a room number with their baggage ( human and otherwise ). The group of people that checked guests in alert them that there is a room for the animals to stay in kennels or they may accompany the others up to the room. Just when everyone was annoyed after being crowded in the lobby, and having to wait decades to get from one floor to another in the elevator.  It doesn’t help there’s always that one asshole that tries to asphyxiate everyone with their heinous flatulence.
They FINALLY make it into their hotel room. Massive enough and customized with multiple full sized beds. No television, the heat blares up, it’s the poster child of the most bare necessities room. While everyone claimed a bed and stared haughty towards the guests that had ended up in the same room with them. A loud crackle followed by a slight rumble of their feet had the lights in the hotel rooms go off. The hotel doors seemed to have powered down, and anyone that tried to leave them --found they wouldn’t budge. A soft wheeze emitted from the heater in the room, and for a moment that’s the only noise in the room with you until the profanities start to flood. Winter wasn’t the only one that had prepped for the evening. The Walshes and their affiliates watch on with hidden elation as their plan goes into motion.
Part I will run from November 28th until December 3rd. Under the cut will be the groupings as well as some additional notes for this event.
Please don’t make any new starters open or closed that don’t pertain to this event while it’s happening. Normal replies can be done while the event is running, but it gets confusing timeline wise if people have additional threads that they start that would belong after the event timeline.
For this event specifically, the weather in Chicago is fictional. After the event you can feel free to glance at the Weather app and RP it out that way!
Animals will also be boarded at this neutral hotel. Keep in mind if the animals are left at your residence with the current temperature and no heat they will likely pass away.
Keep in mind that if your character has children (unless they are Walsh affiliates) they  likely have their kids in the room with them or any other NPC’s. If the character is a Walsh it was their choice to have them be ‘stuck’ in the room with them or left with a babysitter provided by the council.
For information on the bold names check the Walsh Discord channel.
PREP PLOT SLOTS CHOSEN
LIAM WALSH & IVY IVASHKOV volunteered to carpool with a hotel van to the hospital for sedatives and other harvesting supplies. AUDREY ROUSSEAU is already at the hospital and helps them fill the van before they all ride back to the hotel together. DAVUT DEMIR & KILLIAN WALSH are tasked with going to The Westin and sabotaging the hotel in time for the storm. They are told to do whatever necessary to make sure the hotel can’t accept any more guests before they return for the night. DARREN MURPHY took a smoke break after unloading only one of the supply vans at the hotel. LINCOLN DAWSON caught them smoking—as opposed to working—and made DARREN MURPHY finish unloading two other vans while they watched.
ASLYN WALSH collected the weekly stash owed from the business owners at Magnificent Mile. She delivered the money to the council without prying eyes of local law enforcement or rival gangs catching on. ARMANDE IVASHKOV & another associate, had the dirty work of cleaning up the old blood stained hotel rooms used for organ harvesting the night before. They made it presentable before opening night. Their efforts were doubled when other affiliates weren’t aware of the chore, and had set off to bloody the room with a fresh harvest session.TARON LYNCH & JOANNA "JOEY" O'SHEA are instructed to sabotage the backup power generators on the north side. Surprisingly, they didn’t get caught. CAOILAINN WALSH had to “check” everyone into the hotel—AKA, assign each guest to a room. Everyone converges in the lobby and watches them impatiently, and the later it gets, the more aggressive the crowd becomes. ASLI DEMIR & FLETCHER HARGRAVE met with Jean Jaques “JJ” Baptiste and persuaded him by discussing terms of agreement for him to temporarily close Romanet Hotel the night of the massive storm.
