It's kind of a pet peeve of mine when people diminish the Rise boys as fighters without their powers. They dont have their ninpo until the end of s2 and most of the time the plot of the episode made them unable to use their weapons so they CAN fight without them.

There is also the implication that they learn really freaking fast, just by seeing movements and techniques from the Lou Jitsu movies and Jupiter Jim comics they can copy and use techniques.

Point is, these guys are really talented

And I feel a lot of people forget that most of the time even with their strenght and mystic weapons, in their world, they were the underdogs

Their world is fun and colorful but also on crack

Most of their big bads were not the scheaming type because they were so strong already, nothing could really stop them from taking what they desired in that moment. They know how to improvise and they know how to take a huge beating like this guys are so freaking durable I remember how in a deleted (? scene they were being used as a demolition ball and they just seemed mildly in pain and don't forget how they spend 3 whole days fighting the Shredder.

My point is, while they are not classically trained the Rise boys are still talented and competent fighters without their powers.

"my god . . . ! " hiyori exclaims as she drops down the stack of folders and files that she's painstakingly printed out. most people may dread going through all of these submissions, but hiyori was voted most likely to read a dictionary for fun in her high school class ( which was rude and false, but the analogy made sense for illiterate fools who didn't know the beauty and power of fanfiction ). this is her third time doing a fanzine, but her first time running it. the first time she submitted something to a zutara fanzine; the second time she submitted to a large naruto fanzine and assisted here and there with the people running it; this time, she was approached by someone who had ran the naruto fanzine who had been trying to run an avatar the last airbender fanzine but unfortunately didn't have the time after committing and advertising it. impressed with her help in the naruto fanzine the year prior, they had reached out to her to see if she'd be willing to take over; she was ecstatic, of course, but with the big name bowing out and leaving it to her, the rest of the mods left, too, so she had no choice but to reach out to her friend and esteemed colleague, crimsondragon96, to help her tackle this beast of a project. "so ! this is all that got sent. i think we received over 300 submissions," she muses. "gotta be the live action breathing life back into the fandom, both a blessing and a curse." she separates the stack into four pre-organized piles ( she hasn't slept yet ). "so, i've already separated everything out after printing it. this here is the art; this one is fanfics; this one's poems; and this last one is potential cover arts. we definitely do not have the funds to include everyone, so we really gotta whittle it down . . . to like 30. i can push it to 50—maybe. maybe 60 if we can, like design the pages right and find a decently cheap publisher . . . and, i mean, i can take my submission out so someone else can take my place to make it fairer to the public . . ." she's starting to blabber and think aloud, and that's when she realized that she has neither greeted her friend nor asked how he's been. she looks back up, leans forward, and says, "oops. how've you been, crim? i hope i haven't pulled you away from your next big seller or your next big love story for a silly little atla fanzine. unless you need a big distraction, then you're welcome that i did!"

Usually when Parker was done compiling her reports, whichever officer was handing the case would pick it up in her office. Today though found her walking through the bullpen, mostly because she’d been craving for a cup of coffee and the machine in her office had finally decided that dying was preferable to granting Parker with the sweet sweet nectar of the beans. Finally reaching her destination she passed the folder in her hands off to the officer in charge, the person in front of her looked vaguely familiar but she couldn’t for the life of her figure out why. “It looks like she was pushed before she died but whoever did it tried to stop her fall by grabbing her wrist. It doesn’t look intentional; the push was but the force with which they tried to stop the fall...Accidental death is the most the forensics are saying.”

School had never been Elaine’s thing. Even as a child there had been pits of despair in her stomach whenever she was handed an assignment. It was less about the actual work and more about the perfectionism that plagued her and her inability to live up to the expectations that had been set for her. There were hours spent at the dining table, up to her elbows in eraser shavings because the project was never just right. Tutor after tutor who threw their hands up in exasperation when all of their tricks failed, when months had gone by and she still wasn’t getting it. Her grades were never terrible, but they hadn’t been great either, something she was reminded of at the end of every school quarter. No one really knew any of that, though. Nobody would expect her to struggle so much, nobody would guess that the thought of bringing home her SAT scores had ended with her breathing into a brown paper bag. 

She’s been twisting her hair around her fingers for the past twenty minutes, eyebrows knit together in intense focus as she continuously tried and failed to solve the math problem on her paper. She’s stuck again and erasing her work again when the eraser catches on the weakened paper and tears it right in half.

 “Fuck this,” she huffs, slamming her book shut, “I need a drink. What do you say?”

bright falls is a far cry from arlington and an even further one from new york city. casey's never particularly enjoyed the rural parts of the country. too many trees, too much fresh air, too many ways for a suspect to slip off and disappear. and then there's the local flavor; in this case, a murder cult that the townsfolk seem to think is urban legend more than anything real. maybe they're genuine, or maybe they're willfully dense. whatever the case, he's glad that saga's by his side on this one. of all the people he's worked with in his career, she still finds ways to surprise him, keep him on his toes, see details that slip past everyone else, himself included.

it's why he doesn't mind breaking the silence between them as they trek down one of the many winding nature trails around cauldron lake, corner of his mouth daring to twitch upward.

' y'know anderson — I could make a joke about jonestown. ' his expression still looks sour, but he's trying. saga will pick up on that. ' the punchline is too long. '

to say he's stunned, could be considered an understatement. the man hardly knows where to look, so concerned with how he's supposed to broach this situation. perhaps he'd found feelings brewing, but he'd forced them back. so certain, so sure that nothing could ever come of them. now, here he was, with her hands wrapping around his own, closer to him than she'd ever been before. "you -" he smiles breathlessly, forcing his gaze to remain on the ground. "you don't want me," he counters, finally glancing within her eyes. a mistake as soon as he's achieved it. "you're my son's friend...and you feel comfortable here and i'm very glad for that...but you don't - you can't want me, casey. that makes no sense."

"If that were true, you wouldn't be so obviously considering it."

Casey took a step towards him. Her heart was beating so hard inside her chest that she worried he could hear it. But she wasn't about to back down now. "Look," She started, wetting her lips nervously. "I know you're worried about 'taking advantage of me,' but you can't do that when I'm clearly making my feelings known." She gently clasped his hand in both of hers, pulling herself closer to him, looking up at him with practically doe-like eyes.

"I want you."
