"I know you do," she resisted the urge to reach out and touch him, to whittle the sharp edge of their conversation. "I love it about you, truly. But - this, isn't going to become anything more. Not now." Not ever, a little voice in her head said. Not when she'd already stuck in her foot in it. A part of her would maybe always chafe at the idea of giving up that bandwidth, that freedom. It was the same part that had self-sabotaged all her former relationships. The same part that would only concede her independence in tiny bits. "You've got to be okay with that. Just like I am."

JD watched her, instantly knowing he stepped in it. They had agreed that things would strictly be about sex when it all started. But now, JD was conflicted. Did he wanted sex with Noa? Sure. Did he want to maybe get that other girl's number? Sure. But did JD also care about Noa and didn't want her to be jealous or angry or upset? Absolutely. "I never said you were," he turned his head back to her, trying not to snap at her. "And I sure as hell don't feel locked into anything." He looked at her, his eyes locked into hers, biting his lip for a moment. "Guess I care too much about my friends."

After spending some time with his sister, JD headed on down to the Brass Market to pick up some new things for his apartment. Some things felt stagnant so he figured getting some new decor could spice up the place a bit. Itching for an adventure or to get out of town for a bit, since he just got back from a trip, JD figured since he couldn't do either of those things, changing some decor up could maybe help. Seeing Lucie up the aisle, JD raced his cart over to her, maybe shopping with a friend could help give him new ideas. "Honestly I think stuff like that makes the home more homey. Like unique and more about who actually lives there. Does that make sense?" He asked, scratching at the small patch of stubble he was trying to grow out.

I'm still a little dazed and trying to wrap my head around the position the American voters have put us in for the years to come, so you'll have to give me a little more time to put everything into more historical context, but there a few quick tidbits to mention.

The obvious historical tidbit was the one everyone had already been talking about: Trump is the second President to win non-consecutive terms in the White House, after Grover Cleveland, who won the 1884 election (against James G. Blaine), lost the 1888 election to Benjamin Harrison, and then defeated Harrison in 1892.

The ages of Trump and Vance also stand out. Trump will be the oldest President ever inaugurated when he is sworn in: Biden was 78 years, 61 days old when he took office in January 2021; Trump will be 78 years, 220 days old. After Inauguration Day, these will be the five oldest Presidents at the beginning of their term: 1. Donald Trump (2nd Administration): 78 years, 220 days 2. Joe Biden: 78 years, 61 days 3. Donald Trump (1st Administration): 70 years, 220 days 4. Ronald Reagan: 69 years, 349 days 5. William Henry Harrison: 68 years, 23 days

Vance is on the other end of the spectrum. He'll be the third-youngest Vice President in history when he is sworn in. Here's what the list of five youngest VPs in history will look like after Inauguration Day: 1. John C. Breckinridge: 36 years, 47 days 2. Richard Nixon: 40 years, 11 days 3. JD Vance: 40 years, 171 days 4. Dan Quayle: 41 years, 351 days 5. Theodore Roosevelt: 42 years, 128 days

And the age difference between Trump and Vance is, by a significant margin, the biggest age difference between a President and Vice President in American history. Trump is 38 years, 49 days older than Vance -- in fact, Trump is almost twice Vance's age. The next biggest age difference was James Buchanan, who was 29 years, 273 days older than his Vice President, John C. Breckinridge.

She felt the opposite. Most of the time from this past year she didn’t notice a lot of fighting or shoving happening in the halls. These kids were pretty well mannered. “”The puberty really hits them like a truck, especially in between sixth and seventh. "Though middle schoolers can be just as bad, or worse ya know," he suggested, at least with school kids they weren't necessarily going through the beginning stages of puberty like midschoolers were. "Eh I know I do but you can't be too early to start planning you know!"

"What I'm saying," Noa said, as she poured the batter into the pan, "is that you should let me win. My ego can handle that."

She leaned back against the counter as JD approached. It'd take some time for the oven to pre-heat, and then for the brownies to bake. Plenty of time for her to forget them - as did sometimes happen. Plenty of time just to enjoy JD's company. Because that was so often what she craved. She loved her little home on Lupine Lane, just not so much the loneliness that filled her doorstep some nights. "You are so lucky," she wrapped an arm around his shoulder, "that I don't give a shit about theories." She lifted one eyebrow as he licked the batter from his fingers. "How does it taste?"

This arrangement they had, was a welcome one to JD. Being able to have fun and with someone you trust, he enjoyed it more than he probably should. Though at times he wondered if maybe he felt a little bit more, wanted more than to just be friends who slept together. "Sounds like a plan," he said, watching the milk pour into the batter, restraining from sticking a finger in it to taste it before Noa whisked it away to put into the oven. "Hm, I don't know about that, but you're welcome to try," he smirked, moving closer to her.

Chuckling at the dog, and him eagerly catching the pretzels, he stole one for himself, popping it into his mouth. "The olive theory?" He asked, intrigued, making a motion for her to continue. "Good to know, though I prefer the corners, I am a man willing to compromise." He said, his tone dripping in lust, moving his body close to hers, "I think we can arrange that," he said, taking his finger and swiping some of the batter from it before licking his finger.
