Sam bustles around the kitchen, cleaning off counters he’d deep cleaned two days ago, grabbing dishes out of the dishwasher that really could wait until tomorrow morning, putting some elbow grease into trying to get out the stubborn spot on their stove that’s been there since they moved in and that Bucky’s not sure will ever go away. They’ve been home from their last mission about a sum total of fifteen minutes, and Sam’s still in frenzy mode.

If there’s anything Bucky’s learned in all the years he’s been around his partner, it’s that Sam’s never really quite figured out how to slow it down.

Good thing Bucky’s always happy to help.

He straightens up from where he’s leaning against their kitchen’s entryway and walks over towards Sam, purposefully making his footfalls a little louder than normal so he doesn’t sneak up behind him.

“We’ve been awake for almost thirty-six hours, sweetheart,” Bucky almost croons, cozying up behind Sam and wrapping his hands around his front. Bucky himself doesn’t really need the sleep—not the way that Sam does—but he’s found Sam’s a little bit more willing to be pulled into slumber if they’ve both gone without for a while.

Just a little, though.

“I’m so close to getting this grease stain out,” Sam says, huffing a bit between words, his metaphorical feathers ruffled up, trying his best to resist Bucky’s attempts to get him to sleep.

Bucky knows Sam isn’t getting that stain out, knows that vibranium wool wouldn’t be enough to get that stain out, but Sam’s working at it like he’ll get it out if it’s the last thing he ever does, Bucky’s soft crooning be damned.

Time to bring out the big guns, Bucky thinks, nuzzling at Sam’s neck before peppering soft kisses all over it.

It slows Sam down enough that Bucky knows he’s at least got an opportunity here, so he kisses a little slower, a little more sensual.

They’re both too tired to do anything tonight, but neck kisses have always been Sam’s kryptonite; they might be the only thing capable of distracting him when he’s this wound up.

The mission hadn’t exactly been a pretty one, after all.

“Wanna snuggle up to you tonight, angel,” he whispers in between kisses, voice soft and adoring. “Hold you all night long, keep you warm.”

That’s the last push Sam needs to relax his shoulders, setting his cleaning supplies over to the side and breathing in deeply as Bucky places one last kiss on his neck.

“Ready for bed, angel?” Bucky asks, as quiet as he can, and Sam just turns around in his arms in answer, wrapping his own arms around Bucky’s back and tucking his face into the crook of Bucky’s neck instead.

“Shower first?” he mumbles, the already quiet question muffled by the words being spoken into his neck, but Bucky hears him anyway, bending down just enough to pick Sam up, wrapping his legs around his waist and carrying him off to the shower.

Sam doesn’t take his face out of the crook of Bucky’s neck until he’s placed back on his feet, the warm spray at his back still cooler than the feeling of Bucky’s hands on his abdomen, sudsing him up.

It’s a quick shower, warm but mostly utilitarian, a few kisses when Bucky just can’t help himself aside. They dry off only enough to not be uncomfortable between the sheets, and Bucky picks an already almost asleep Sam up one last time to carry him over to bed.

Sam immediately turns over to lay half on top of him, burying his face in Bucky’s neck once again, like it’s a barrier to keep out everything else. Bucky knows it won’t be long until Sam moves—knows Sam sleeps like a hurricane when he feels safe enough to, always looking for the cool spot—but it’s enough to warm Bucky all over for now.

“Good night, sweetheart,” he says, wrapping his arm in tighter around Sam. “I love you.”

All he gets is Sam’s soft, slow breathing in reply, but he knows Sam falling asleep next to him that easily is an “I love you” in its own right.

Kari’s Let’s Be Blunt Challenge

First off this is not an ordinary song challenge. It is more focused on selected lyrics and the deeper meaning behind them. You have to pick one of the James Blunt songs I listed below and send it to me with your pairing/fandom of choice (read more on that below). I will then answer you with a 1-3 lines from the song you then have to build your fic around. Since I am giving lines and are allowing more than one fandom multiple people can sign up for one song. I will cross them out if I feel one song has gotten enough attention. You are free to use the remaining song as little or as much as you like outside of those few lines, but the lines I send you must be the focus. You either have to directly use them in the fic (as narrative or dialogue) or they have to be deciding for the theme of the story somehow. 

This challenge will be open for multiple fandoms. My two main fandoms are Supernatural and Marvel so I prefer those. "Y/N! Look out!" Tony yells out, causing you to miss your target.

“Shit, he got away. Thanks, Tony!” You hear someone land behind you. You turn and there’s Steve, Natasha, Bucky and Sam.

“This isn’t fair, Romanogers and Winterfalcon was teaming up against me!”

Natasha smirks, “sorry, y/n. no hard feelings?”

“Not so fast!” Tony, Rhodey, Thor and Clint land in front of you. “Get away from Y/N! He’s ours!” Clint yells as he aims his gun at Sam.

“ I don’t think so,” Steve says before shooting at Rhodey, who dodged in the nick of time.

“Last chance, give us Y/N and we’ll leave you alone.” Bucky says, gun trailed on Thor.

“Never, Y/N is ours! So, fuck off!”

“I didn’t want it to come to this, Tony.” Steve bows his head before Natasha raises her gun, shooting Clint. Everyone let out gasps of surprise.

“Nat...I thought we were friends.” Clint gasped out as he collapsed to the floor.

“I’m sorry, Clint but everything is fair in war.”

“Oh my god, she killed Clint! We can’t trust them. Take cover and shoot them!” Tony yells as he, Rhodey and Thor take cover.

“What the hell just happened?” You question yourself as you run to take cover behind some spare metal.

“HOLY SHIT, NATASHA JUST SHOOT BARNES! WE’VE BEEN BETRAYED!” Steve yells out.

You roll yours eyes, of course. It’s war, what did he expect. You don’t blame her either. You look over to the left to see Natasha. “Not so fast, Widow.” You aim your gun at her.

“Team up?” She ask. “We get rid of them and then kill each other when we’re through.” You shrug, seems like a good deal.

“We have Tony, Steve, Wanda, Scott, Sam and Rhodey left.”

“I eliminated Scott and Wanda before the show down a few minutes ago.” You tell her as you lower your gun.

“That leaves us with four. Get them together as duo’s and kill them together.” You nod, standing. You began walking through the battlefield. You soon find Tony and Steve fighting. Rhodey and Sam had been elimated.

“You get Rogers and I get Stark.” You tell Natasha, who nods.

“Tony!” You yell out, running towards him and Steve.

“Y/N, no! He’ll kill you!” You see Natasha run towards Steve.

“Wait, you were with Natasha! Shit, Cap, it’s a tag team to take us out!”

You began shooting at Tony, who struggled to dodge. Natasha was fighting Steve. You could take Steve out from behind while he wasn’t looking.

You turn from Tony and aimed at Steve’s unguarded back. You let out two shots, one hit Steve in his lower back and the other at his head.

“STEVE!” Tony yelled out as he collapsed to the ground. Natasha aims over your shoulder, letting out two shots. You hear a body fall to the ground behind you.

“Got him?” She nods. “One more to go.”

“Yes, one more.” You shot her a smirk. She didn’t know you knew she’d be shot. You reach down to help her up.

“Sorry, Nat. Every man for themselves, you know?”

Her eyes widened when she saw you looking at her injury. You were quicker than her by a second, shooting her in the knee and then the chest.

“ Winner is Y/N L/N, Y/C/N.” Friday annouces as the battlefield illusion disappears and back into the training room.

“Well done, Y/N.” Natasha laughs as she holds a hand up. You help her stand, laughing. “Well, I learned from the best. Besides if it was real you’d probably kick my ass.”

“Y/N, you traitor!” You turn to see the team sans Bruce storming towards you.

You shrug, smiling at Tony. “Oops.”

“Tasha, I can’t believe you shot me!” Clint whines as Nat rolls her eyes.

“Anybody want pizza?” Tony asks. “Yeah!” The team agrees. “Fri, order the usual!”

“On it, Boss.”

“Now, who wants to play Mario Kart?”

“For, Tasha and Y/N to cheat again?! No!”

A: how did you come up with the title for ?: you didn’t specify so i pick my leverage fic, take a life (take my hand) which was inspired by can’t help falling in love by elvis presley :)

S: any fandom tropes you can’t resist?: identity porn/secret reveal. my absolute FAVORITE. the more angst the better. i’m also a sucker for “HA i’m gonna proclaim my love to x character in this language bc they don’t speak it” and it turns into “NEWSFLASH ASSHOLE I’VE SPOKEN THIS LANGUAGE THE WHOLE DAMN TIME!” which now that i think about it is in a way a secret reveal? wow i’m predictable and easy to please.

L: what’s the weirdest au you’ve ever come up with?: some mermaid thing i wrote three paragraphs for because i had mermaids on the brain that’ll never see the light of day

O: how do you begin a story – with the plot, or the characters?: good fucking question. plot first i think? and then i figure out who would best fit what i want to do. it’s all kinda,, Simultaneous sometimes. BUT occasionally i rework it like my most recent wip, which started as a winteriron fic and is now a stony fic. i’m very go-with-the-flow when it comes to my writing

V: a secondary (or underrated) character you want to see more of in fic?: SAM. WILSON. and not just as the therapy friend!!!! gimme sam the lil shit friend who’s also your number one ride or die or give me DEATH (don’t actually i have things to do)

E: if you wrote a sequel to — what would it be about?: since you didn’t specify i’m picking again and i pick project: get bucky barnes a dog BECAUSE i had a sequel planned. still might write it if i have time. basically bucky gets another dog who is very similar to bucky physically and that’s all i’m gonna say for now

R: are there any writers (fanfic or otherwise) you consider an influence? no one in particular comes to mind as a ‘YES i want to do what they’re doing!’, but i love and admire any author that brings up real and hard emotions in me, anyone who can take my breath away with their writing, and anyone who can make me truly Think about what i just read.

U: a pairing you would like to write for, but haven’t tried yet?: WINTERFALCON!! also interwebs. i love my dumb nerdy sons sm. but i’m Iffy about writing kids like that so i probably won’t. i definitely want to write for sam and bucky tho!!!
