closed starter @nolan-jackson
Last week at the Bread & Butter, Zahid had met Nolan. The man was shy, but nice enough and while they were chatting, he noticed how the guy kept making eyes at Harlow. As the minutes wore on, it became clear Nolan didn't have a clue when it came to pursuing a woman, so he had offered to help him out. Tonight was supposed to be their first lesson.
Sipping his beer, he peered around the Heavy Hitters. "Tonight, we're going to start with you asking for a woman's number," he said. He wondered how Nolan would react to that request. The guy seemed so devoted to Harlow and he wasn't sure he'd be willing to chat up other women. But if Nolan ever hoped to win Harlow's affection, he needed to build up some confidence with the ladies.
Spotting a cute blonde giving Nolan the eye, he nodded in her direction. "See that girl over there? She's been checking you out all night. Go introduce yourself and ask for her digits." He smiled encouragingly—hoping his new friend would give it a shot. Zahid just wanted to help boost Nolan's flirting skills so he could eventually woo Harlow. But he had to start small first. "You got this, buddy," he said, giving his new friend a pat on the back.

— SETTING: Ahalya's, Zahid's & Devika's apartment, evening — AVAILABILITY: closed starter for DEVIKA VYAS  | ( @devikaavyas )
Tumblr media
In more ways than one, Reyhan was glad for how things had worked out for Ahalya after letting the younger woman know the building next to hers had apartments available for rent, and, apparently, they were bigger and better than the ones in the editor's current building so, good for her. Really.
So, here she was, at Lya's new roommate's welcome party, sporting a cup of beer in hand as she waltzed around the living area, making chit chat with whoever she crossed paths with. The name Devika sounded more familiar than she would have expected to, but Reyhan didn't want to make assumptions that this Devika would have been the one she'd once given her heart to back in New York, however, upon being introduced to the brunette by the mutual friend they had, Reyhan couldn't help but laugh softly.
Tumblr media
"Yes... we've met." She told Lya, before offering her hand to Devika. "How are you, Dev? Long time no see, huh? Covington's a long way from New York."

Hitorijanai
Tulisan ini aku ketik sambil dengerin lagu Hitorijanai by Seventeen. Akhir-akhir ini memang lagi kepincut sama lagu ini, liriknya deep dan buat pendengarnya ngga merasa sendiri, ya sesuai judulnya, hitorijanai (not alone). I was like “Why on earth did no one tell me this magnificent song exists?!” But then I realized, this song came to me on purpose, it suits my current life situation.
…..
*insert sound* Gwenchana… gwenchanayo…
Jangan-jangan aku punya hutang tapi belum dibayar? Atau Jangan-jangan aku pernah buat salah tapi belum minta maaf?
…..
Thank you for stopping by.

Tentang Ponsel Baru Bapak
But, we did it. Sedikit lagi, yas.
-
And i promise, someday, I'll make it as they wish. Aamiin.

Tumblr media
I am wondering.... why not?
Apa lagi ya? haha selebihnya hidup normal, sih.
-
Haha it's works.
Karena kalau ada cukup waktu, we can cook same things as the restaurant can do.
📑 Nulis pengeluaran tiap hari? Biasanya aku 4-7 hari sekali. Biar gak lupa gimana?
Jadi saling menutupi gitu.
Sekian ocehan di hari minggu ini. Setiap orang pasti punya cara tersendiri. Jadi cuma pengen cerita aja. Selamat melanjutkan aktivitas.

for: zahide aksoy / @malignxnce location: the lookout
“Zahide.” Sebiorn breathed her name in relief, pushing through the crowd to wrap his arms around the young werewolf. He knew that Vince and himself would be fine in the storm, they had more to fear in their own kind than they did the weather and disruptive elements, but she was something fragile: the universe had a way of crushing gentle things, and all the way to their safe point he had worried over her. He pressed a kiss to the top of her head, rain-soaked as it was, before pulling away to look her over. “You’re safe, and unhurt?” He shed his jacket, curving it around her shoulders, before allowing himself a moment to laugh. “Look at me, I’m mothering you. Don’t let Vince see, he’ll never let me forget.”

How to derive "familiar charming disguises" from a single root (with just a bit of vulgarity and a bad pun)
[cognit queint connuð /kɔjˈnɪt kwint kɔˈnɪð/, for the tl;drs among you]
The early Latin verb gnōscō (later nōscō) means "I learn about, become acquainted with". Much more common, at least by the Classical period, is the derived form cognōscō "I get to know, recognise". Its past participle cognitus "known, recognised"—later expanding also to "noted, acknowledged"—is going to be the star of this story.
1. We know that by Vulgar/Late Latin the variant form connōscō was widespread, although it was never universal (Lustain cońecer /ˌko.ɲeˈsɛɹ/ is likely from cognēscō, influenced by the -ēscō suffix). The participle form at this stage was variable, but we often see connūtus; using the suffix -ūtus was a common regularisation strategy across Romance. For example, consider Norman tandu /tã.dy/ "pulled" < tendūtus (Classical tentus) or Napolitan veruto /vɛˈɾuːtə/ "seen" < vidūtus (Classical vīsus).
This verb is inherited by Boral relatively unaltered as connoscr /kɔˈnɔ.xʀ̩/ "to know of, recognise, distinguish" with past participle connuð /kɔˈnɪθ/ "known, recognised, familiar". It has a past conjugation in -oy, like many irregular verbs; this verb is one of the original few from which that feature spread by analogically (compare Classical Latin cognōvī):
Tumblr media
2. Once its role as participle has been overtaken by connūtus, the original cognitus is left only as an adjective meaning "noted, recognised". This survives only in France, where by the ninth century we see Parisian coint and Norman queynt, both meaning "clever, intelligent"; the former straightforwardly gives French quain(te) /kɛ̃j(t)/ "nice, pretty, beautiful".
The latter is borrowed into Boral no later than 900N as queynt and survives into Modern Boral as queint /kwint/ "charming, intelligent; sophisticated, nuanced". Later, during the Second Tetrarchy, the same enters Markish as quaint /kwəjnt/ "unusual, odd" and even Cumbric, now extant only in Hasinick British as cwynyd /ˈkwə.nəd/ "complicated, convoluted, contrived".
L'es queint e polið; untal segr vel jo mariðar pront e direct! He is charming and polite; I should marry such a man in a heartbeat! /lɛz ˈkwint e poˈlɪθ | ɪnˈtal ˈsi.jʀ̩ vɛl ˈʒo ˌma.ʀiˈðaʀ ˈpʀɔnt e diˈʀɛkt/
Vostr y sgart queint vars y Paç Lonc moustr ig vos no soð bogr naðeu. Your nuanced perspective on the Long Peace shows you aren't at all naïve. /ˈvɔs.tʀ‿i ˈsgart ˈkwint vaʀz i ˈpats ˈlɔnk ˈmustʀ̩ aj ˈvo no ˈsɔθ ˈbɔ.jʀ̩ naˈðaw/
3. While the adjectival cognitus survives only in France, its negative incognitus "unknown, untried" is inherited into Old Italian incognito "unknown, unseen"—later expanding to senses such as "hidden, disguised" which suggest more (possibly-malicious) intent.
In the late fourteenth century this word is reanalysed as being a prepositional phrase in cognito "in disguise, in hiding", bringing into being the new word cognito "disguise, cover". For some time, cognito is restricted to this particular construction, but by 1450N we see it being used independently:
...sicke niscun no putesse svelare'l cognito della cortejana... ...so that nobody would be able to see through the courtesan's disguise...
This new word spread over the next centuries across Europe (French cognite /kɔ.ɲit/, Markish coghnit /ˈkuː.nɪt/ and Zahid куни́то /kuˈnʲi.tɔ/, just to name a few), and is established in Boral by the early eighteenth century. In Boral, cognit /kɔjˈnɪt/ means "hiding place, disguise, secret", and in the modern language can also be used to mean "cover story". The construction ne cognit retains the sense "unseen, without being noticed, in hiding" from the Italian, even as the word alone has shifted.
A cal bon un cognit lon masq? What good is a disguise with no mask? /a kal ˈbɔn ɪn kɔjˈnɪt lɔn ˈmask/
Cascif fout vostr y cognit un parnommað? Why the fuck are you undercover as a celebrity? /kaˈxɪf fut vɔsˈtʀ‿i kɔjˈnɪt ɪn ˌpaʀ.noˈmaθ/
Matthias acavau a scap fair ne cognit dell'aucoum lougent. Matthias managed to slip away unseen from the glittering crowd. /maˈθjaz ˌa.kaˈvo a ˈxap ˈfɛʀ ne kɔjˈnɪt ˌde.loˈkum luˈʒɛnt/
Hope you enjoyed this installment of "I chat about whatever bit of Boral nonsense comes to mind"! Next time: probably something cursed in the syntax tbh :D

While I was hanging out putting on an annonymous name (I do that often as I am turning into an introvert, which I really don't want) in a random server in discord with some strangers, I got asked out a question by a certain someone who was the host of the podcast 🎙️(voice chat).
The question was, if you get an opportunity to commit a crime without getting into any kind of judgement, what would you do? If I say more clearly, you have to do something that is considered as a crime in your society but you won't be imprisoned or punished for doing that. And yes obviously it's not a fairy tale and the crime must be within your ability or something that you can do.
It's a kind of a riddle with no reasonable answers, at least it seemed that way to me. Because if you are a normal teenage guy or a man with no ill traits or past experience of doing wicked things, most likely you won't be able to answer that.
Such as you may think, you can kill certain someone, like you want to kill the guy who used to bully you during school or you want to kill the guy/girl who snatched the person from you, you used to love. Yeah it's true, initially you are going to have this kind of thoughts but what would it bring you or why would you do that? Yes you are right, you are going to think that way too and that is when you stop thinking and you end up with no answers. Yes you may be depressed, frustrated about life, fed up on your self, disappointed on certain someone and yes you may end up wanting to harm or kill somebody but ultimately you won't. Because without even not told by anyone, you yourself know that won't do any good to you, at most you may get some inner satisfaction but after a while you will die in guilt.
(If you are a robber, you may want to rob the central bank. Which isn't exactly usual to most. That's the reason I excluded people's with wicked traits.)
But in the same way if I ask you the exact opposite question, I will fulfill one of your wishes. You can want whatever you want. You may take much more time to answer than the time you took to deny answering the question you were asked before. Because you exactly don't know what you want at that moment, which one of your dreams you want me to fulfill. But after sometime you will end up with an answer. And if I am not wrong the thing you want me to fulfill will be something that satisfies you or brings inner peace to you the most out of all of your desires. It's not something that creates problem or causes harm to certain people no matter how much of a jerk he/she is.
No matter how much of a honest/depressed/wicked/introverted guy you are, you will want your desires to be fulfilled even if you have 0 interest in life. And you will know you are not the guy who is alone all the time, who is gloomy doesn't have any dreams. By fulfilling one of your desires I will let you know about hundreds of your unfulfilled desires in that way and it may turn you to fulfill those yourself.
Ultimately if I get closer to my point, people are actually vulnerable to their happiness. They prioritise their happiness, their satisfactions over doing things that causes problems to others. Well, causing harm to their hated ones may bring temporary satisfaction to their mind but you don't know when this satisfaction turns into guilt. And that's why you don't want to do that in the first place. No matter who you are, you are always vulnerable to guilt as much as you are to happiness. Because you still want to be happy, you still want to make your dad proud, you still want to impress the girl you like, you still want your company to success.
You are still positive internally, spiritually. So just live a life you won't regret. Keep trying, you know you can do it, only you know who you are and only you can defeat yourself. So don't just give up, move on, stop trying or slack off. You are going to do it, even if you can hardly see the ray of the slightest hope. Hold tight.

Kerry takes to the world stage before Blinken Blinken blessed and supported the trip, a State Department official told CNN. Still, Kerry’s charge overseas to launch himself into diplomacy before Blinken makes his first trip next week led to concerns that he could overshadow the current secretary of state right out of the gate, according to department four officials. Kerry posted photos showing him chatting with British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, speaking at a European Union climate meeting, walking with EU President Ursula von der Leyen, conferring with foreign policy chief Josep Borrell and bumping elbows with senior European climate official Frans Timmermans, all in advance of a final stop in Paris where he met with President Emmanuel Macron on Wednesday. The montage underscored the unusual nature of the trip and the unusual break with protocol. While Blinken has spoken to many of these leaders by phone, Kerry met with some of the secretary of state’s counterparts face-to-face before Blinken has had a chance to — and even leaders with whom Blinken might not get formal meetings. It also highlights what might be the Biden administration’s most unusual partnership: a former secretary of state working alongside a current secretary. The situation has the potential to boost diplomatic productivity, State Department sources say, but could also lead to confusion and awkwardness. Differences and overlaps Blinken, Kerry’s one-time deputy, now holds his old job as the country’s top diplomat, but Kerry’s role will involve intense interactions with foreign governments and is of similar Cabinet-level rank. Although the former secretary of state will work alongside Blinken on international outreach on climate issues, Kerry reports not to the secretary, but to President Joe Biden. In London, Kerry also met with British government officials hosting COP26, the next annual UN meeting focused on climate issues. In Paris, he met with French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire and was expected to meet with Ecology Minister Barbara Pompili, Foreign Minister Yves LeDrian and the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, officials told CNN. While Kerry and Blinken are very close, some officials fret that their personality differences and portfolio overlaps might also create a dynamic that blurs the lines between the two. Kerry has enjoyed the spotlight since his 20s and is known for his relentless pace on the global stage, while Blinken is seen as more reserved and methodical and has worked to support other officials for most of his life. State Department officials said there was some nervousness about Kerry’s debut trip as climate envoy precisely because of his love for hitting the road and engaging in face-to-face diplomacy and his eagerness to do so. These officials cited worry in the ranks about how to manage Kerry’s drive to get out there, meet people and make appearances, and the concern he might overshadow or be seen to overshadow Blinken. And while the secretary supported Kerry’s trip, some officials close to him were irritated by it, a second State Department official said. Asked what signal it sent to European allies to have Kerry visit before the secretary, a State Department spokesperson said that Kerry, “with the support of President Biden, Secretary Blinken, and his hosts in London, Brussels, and Paris, believes it is vital that we make substantial progress this year to confront the climate crisis. He traveled to Europe at this time because he and our partners were confident that a handful of in-person meetings could advance that progress meaningfully, including ahead of the President’s Leaders Summit on Climate next month.” Former President Donald Trump pulled out of the 2015 Paris Climate agreement, a global pact to fight climate change shortly after being sworn into power in 2016. The United States officially re-joined on Biden’s first day in office. The spokesperson made clear that Kerry would be sticking to the climate issue. “Special Presidential Envoy Kerry is focused squarely on the climate change, and he makes that clear in every conversation he has,” they said. The first State Department official told CNN that Kerry is able to do things Blinken cannot because he can travel without a big footprint of staff — an advantage in the ongoing Covid pandemic. Another official familiar with Kerry’s travel plans said he traveled commercially and with only one aide. But the Europe trip highlighted the fact that there is sensitivity surrounding Kerry’s role, and some kinks still need to be worked out. The administration official familiar with the planning for Kerry’s trip said it was weeks in the making and required the normal White House and State Department approval. But some State officials felt the trip came together at the “last minute” and others were not aware that Kerry’s travel was officially approved until von der Leyen put out a statement on Friday about a call she had with Biden and mentioned Kerry was coming, one department official said. The White House readout of Biden’s call with von der Leyen made no mention of Kerry. After weeks of video meetings, Kerry felt like he needed to see his counterparts in person, particularly because of the upcoming April 22 climate summit hosted by the Biden administration and then the “sprint to Glasgow” for the UN Climate Change Conference in November, the administration official said. Trip caused some stress Another official noted that faced with Kerry’s drive to travel, it is hard to say no to a former secretary of state. A third State Department official said that staff think that “as Blinken starts to travel more it will be fine,” but like others, acknowledged that this first trip caused some stress. That’s partly because in diplomacy there are always the important considerations of protocol and rank as meetings are arranged, particularly at the beginning of a new administration. One official said Kerry’s former standing, expertise and well-known love of chewing over policy questions could mean he gets called on to answer questions about issues that are no longer his purview, but Blinken’s. “Who knows what he’ll say when he’s out there if someone asks him about non-climate issues: Iran, or the GOP, or insurrection or whatever,” this official speculated. The State Department spokesperson, perhaps anticipating these concerns, made clear that Kerry would be sticking to the climate issue. “Special Presidential Envoy Kerry is focused squarely on the climate change, and he makes that clear in every conversation he has,” they said. For State Department officials, Kerry’s enthusiasm to get things done dovetails with the challenge of managing European allies’ eagerness to engage in personal diplomacy with Biden administration officials after four strained years with Trump. “Kerry has all of these contacts who find out he’s coming and then want to meet with him,” said the second official. Under Trump, diplomacy became less disciplined, as White House officials and the former President’s associates conducted outreach while sidestepping an often marginalized State Department. Some foreign officials, now familiar with that ad hoc approach, might see Kerry as another avenue to reach Biden and convey messages or requests through him instead of the more proper route of speaking through Blinken. In Paris, French officials were lining up to see Kerry. “All I can guess is that the French suppose he is coming with Blinken’s blessing, so they will meet with him,” said a fourth State Department official. “I imagine the French are thrilled to have an interlocutor on the ground,” said this official. “While they might prefer for protocol reasons that it be (the Secretary), they will go forward on the assumption that everyone is playing nicely.” ‘Thrilled’ One specific protocol concern is that Kerry knows France’s Macron and the UK’s Johnson well, but ordinarily wouldn’t necessarily be granted a formal appointment with them, officials said. Kerry takes to the world stage before Blinken
Blinken blessed and supported the trip, a State Department official told Appradab.
Differences and overlaps
Blinken, Kerry’s one-time deputy, now holds his old job as the country’s top diplomat, but Kerry’s role will involve intense interactions with foreign governments and is of similar Cabinet-level rank. Although the former secretary of state will work alongside Blinken on international outreach on climate issues, Kerry reports not to the secretary, but to President Joe Biden.
In London, Kerry also met with British government officials hosting COP26, the next annual UN meeting focused on climate issues. In Paris, he met with French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire and was expected to meet with Ecology Minister Barbara Pompili, Foreign Minister Yves LeDrian and the mayor of Paris, Anne Hidalgo, officials told Appradab.
He traveled to Europe at this time because he and our partners were confident that a handful of in-person meetings could advance that progress meaningfully, including ahead of the President’s Leaders Summit on Climate next month.”
Former President Donald Trump pulled out of the 2015 Paris Climate agreement, a global pact to fight climate change shortly after being sworn into power in 2016. The United States officially re-joined on Biden’s first day in office.
The spokesperson made clear that Kerry would be sticking to the climate issue. “Special Presidential Envoy Kerry is focused squarely on the climate change, and he makes that clear in every conversation he has,” they said.
The first State Department official told Appradab that Kerry is able to do things Blinken cannot because he can travel without a big footprint of staff — an advantage in the ongoing Covid pandemic.
Trip caused some stress
Another official noted that faced with Kerry’s drive to travel, it is hard to say no to a former secretary of state.
“While they might prefer for protocol reasons that it be (the Secretary), they will go forward on the assumption that everyone is playing nicely.”
‘Thrilled’
One specific protocol concern is that Kerry knows France’s Macron and the UK’s Johnson well, but ordinarily wouldn’t necessarily be granted a formal appointment with them, officials said.
Even Blinken would not normally get a formal meeting with the French President or British prime minister because protocol is that the secretary of state meets with his or her counterpart, the foreign minister. What traditionally happens on these visits is that officials in the State Department and Foreign Ministry arrange for the prime minister to make a seemingly impromptu “drop by” visit.
That is precisely what happened in the UK, where Kerry became the first Biden Cabinet official to pay a visit to London to mark the “special relationship.” Kerry tweeted that during his meeting with COP26 President Alok Sharma, he had a “surprise visit” from Johnson and signaled future diplomacy and travel ahead. “Only eight short months until Glasgow,” Kerry said, “thrilled to have both these leaders as strong partners in the work ahead.”
It wasn’t clear how France handled Kerry’s meeting with Macron, but the climate envoy emerged from their conversation and told reporters that the US was “back to being partners.”
On the 7th floor, where the secretary and his senior staff have offices, Kerry is seen as potentially powerful force multiplier for Blinken, who could help make the secretary and US diplomacy more effective.
“It certainly helps things that they are close friends,” a source told Appradab.
Blinken, Kerry and their teams talk regularly because climate issues are threaded throughout the Biden administration’s approach to foreign policy, this source said, and dealing with climate change is a central administration priority.
“Secretary Blinken recognizes the importance of the US being engaged on this and that is why he, from the start, has been a champion of this office and of Secretary Kerry in this role,” said the official. “He has confidence that Secretary Kerry can make progress.”
