Blip. Blip. Blop.
A few fat raindrops fell through the canopy of leaves above, splattering against the inside of her book. Ink tears slid down the page, smearing the directions the inn-keeper had scrawled in the margins of the index. Well, they were anti-directions, really. Belle had asked him to detail paths frequented by hunters, patrolling soldiers, and merchant caravans. And, with that knowledge in mind, she had set off in a direction untouched by any of them.
・・・
When Belle was twelve, she asked her papa why the giant-slayers had to lure the monsters from the forests. There were some years when the wolves would gorge themselves on elk and grow too populous, turning to the villages to satisfy their flourishing numbers. These were years when pelts would hang from every market stall. The hunters did not go to the wolves, the wolves came to them. Thus was not the case with giant-slayers.
This thought lingered - vague, but persistent - in the years to come, nagging at her every time she saw a tapestry depicting a mob of intrepid heroes cutting down a beastly giant.
・・・
Of course, she had no intention of finding the creature. Even she wasn't so foolhardy to wage battle against a giant when her sharpest weapon was her wit. It was evidence she was in search of. A creature of such size must have a voracious appetite. She'd read that, in days long past, a single giant could devour an entire village before the militia had time to rally a single man.
And if it was not raiding villages, it had to be eating something. Would she find a horrific slew of animal carcasses, half-eaten and rotting? Wagons crushed by colossal fists, cast aside bones the only proof that there had been any riders at all?
She leaned back against the thick trunk of the oak tree, feeling sore and damp and more than a little defeated. She sighed, embarrassed by her own thoughts. Was she really disappointed to have not stumbled upon some scene of carnage? She'd gotten one, or two, or ten steps ahead of herself, as usual - having journeyed so deep into the wood with the thought of rushing out again, boasting her own story to tell. One that would not be written in running ink.
Belle felt a sudden rumble that started in her feet and carried upward until her teeth seemed to rattle from it. She could not tell if it was thunder from above or a vibration through the ground below.

『✣』 Belle's face was red, then blue, then green, then orange, and red again — bathed in the neon glow of the lights dancing around the club's entrance. Above the door, a sign screamed "THE PARROT CLUB" in more buzzing strips of light, accompanied by a likeness of its namesake, beak turned skyward and wings slightly spread. She could hear the jackhammer beat of music from inside, muffled like a radio submerged in water.
It was not so squalid as she'd envisioned; no cigarette butts carpeting the pavement, no broken glass crunching beneath her feet, no showers of stale piss on the corner walls. The place's sordid heart was wrapped in clean packaging. It was all in the implication, the playful enticement of the flashing neon lights — as 'come hither' as a woman fluttering her lashes.
Before she could lose her mettle, Belle planted both hands on the heavy door and pushed her way into the abyss.
Abyss — as it turned out — was the precise word to use. It was so dark, it was disorienting. She blinked away the neon-coloured spots in her vision as her eyes adjusted. The music was louder now and the air smelled of heavy perfume and pungent alcoholic concoctions.
Belle cupped her hands against her temples like horse blinders and slipped through the shadows. She was able to move through the club with relative ease, dodging patrons and cocktail waitresses who towered above her in seven-inch platform stilettos. Her fear that she'd stick out like a sore thumb was unfounded. She was wearing entirely too much to be a woman worth looking at.
So, in her soft blue cardigan and sensible stockings, she barreled forward into the belly of the beast. Keeping her hands locked in place to block out any sight she deemed too unsavoury, she scanned the club for a clue as to where to find its owner. Did he watch his own shows? Did he drink at his bar? Did he make his rounds to read the riot act to the staff? Or did he stay hidden away in some backroom office, a king who did not demean himself to mingle with the peasants?
Devine left the library and basically fled back to his place of business. The idea he barred himself and allowed himself to be barred from a public building was getting to the man. Well, more truthfully, the woman who ran the place was getting to him. It would be a long and headache of a week for the club owner. His schedule would be ruined without his planner to go by, but he wouldn't dare go back to get it. No, instead he was ready to pay the woman back for her behavior. Danny was still going to do what he had said; he got a few men and women from his club to pack up the old inventory.
When they asked about the situation, he simply told them about a proper tax right off to help the club out when it came to next year. No one rightly questioned it, if it meant better pay down the line. Of course he'd need to send some paper work with the inventory, but he figured the woman might be a class act at some point and get them signed back to him.
The day the first call came in, the man was preparing his agenda and making certain he hadn't lost anyone in the chaos of starting over. He didn't answer the phone the first time and let it go as he was working. It didn't register who it could be, but the man noted the area code, which made him understand it was local. Nothing really seemed to fit into place as the days went on. It was some of the girls in the club that noticed Danny was sticking to home more than usual. As if he was afraid to leave the club for some god-awful reason.
When the calls kept coming in, the man realized someone was leaving messages with them. His brow raised at the idea someone was so eager to get ahold of him. That wasn't like his usual lot of business; this had to be personal. Devine didn't do well with personal; he wasn't answering the phone. He didn't want to know who was on the other side.
{Danny - Fuck off whoever this is; I do not want your fuckin' solicitation!!!}
He thought that would be the end of it, but a few more calls came, and he was getting paranoid. It didn't register in him that the woman was doing all the calling. If anything, he figured she would have tossed all the stuff out and was living her life as she had before he met her. So why did he feel like something bad was going to happen? Why was he so anxious to leave his club and venture out into the world away from his safe place of work?

Random Thought about Translation...
📚And why I feel so honored and pleased doing it!🪶
(Texte en français après "Afficher davantage", venez donc les amoureux de la langue de Molière ❤)
For the past weeks, I've had the honour and pleasure of being my dear @malohkeh-main's beta reader for her French translation of "Demon and Angel Professors", a gorgeous and gigantic Good Omens AU written by Ghostinthehouse aka @ineffableghost.
Malohkeh does the heavy work, while your humble servant adapts the text as best as possible for French readers. A hard but fascinating work!
Just so you know, each chapter of the English text is exactly 666 words, and Malohkeh made sure to respect this from the beginning. Sometimes, it is possible to manage to end up with a satisfying, coherent translation at 666 words. And sometimes you just cannot do it in French language (AO3 even counts some punctuation marks as words!). So we keep a wordcount made of 3, 6, 7 and 9 for reasons of our own.
Today I worked on the one-shot titled "Would I lie to you" and it was definitely a 666-achievable chapter, while being fluid to read in French. That moment when I tweak, tweak, and tweak again...reading and reading, going from 661 to 668 words, then 665, 667, 663...before reaching the last sentence. A sentence where I go full YOLO in my prettiest french-writing mode, then save the draft...and the word count claims "666". Muhahaha. It just feels like this to me:
If you haven't read "Demon and Angel Professors" I can only encourage you to do it here!
And if you're a Francophone, please have a look at our first translations! Give us a feedback if you'd like!
And thank you so much @vanam0nde for checking/translating my ineffable babblings on Tumblr!

DCA Info Part 20: Chateau Beastiale Dorm 📚🥀🐗
Chateau Beastiale (シャトー・ビースティアーレ寮, Shatō Bīsutiāre Ryō) was founded on the Intellect (知性) of the Golden Maiden and is inspired by the world of Beauty and the Beast. Students of this dorm excel in Basic Etiquette and Magic Incantations.
Dorm Founder: Belle
Known in-universe as the Golden Maiden (黄金の乙女).
Dorm Crest
The dorm crest features a shield like emblem with a gold exterior outline and blue interior. Within the interior there are silhouettes of The Beast, Belle and a red rose. On the upper right of the emblem's exterior, there is a rose crown with three red roses on it wrapped around it's edge. Near the bottom, there is a red banner with the dorm's name on it. On the bottom and lower sides of the exterior, there is a garland of red roses. There are also household items on top and on both sides of the exterior, with a candelabra at the top, a teapot on the left and teacups on the right.
Dorm Leader: Rozeline Pierrette
Chateau Beastiale's current dorm leader is Rozeline Pierrette, a young woman who's famous for her novels, playwrights, songs, inventions and alchemy class experiments. But she has a bit of a dark secret.
Dorm Fairy: Rosia
Rosia (ロシア, Roshia) is Chateau Beastiale's dorm fairy and vice dorm leader. She is described as being very elegant and giving good advice. Rosia carries herself with confidence and likes to quote from books when speaking sometimes. She is known to be a good tutor for students having trouble with anything, be it studies, manners and much more. She is able to speak her mind even though it can be blunt sometimes, Rosia doesn't see the need to sugarcoat anything otherwise the students won't learn.
Her current appearance represents Rozeline's ideal self, wanting to show what she is capable of without having to worry about being feared or called a monster because of her unique magic.
Dorm Living Quarters
• The exterior of the Chateau Beastiale dorm living quarters is designed to the likeness of the Beast's castle. It has a beautiful rose garden at the entrance leading to the main building.
• The entrance to the gate has a small marble house filled with soft pillows and a few pet essentials. This is Palmiers' station, she guards the gate entrance and won't let others pass unless they offer her sweets. So Rozeline has a sign to notify students and visitors on the guard bear.
• The interior is colored beige wallpaper and metal made to look like gold, decorating the hallways and a number of furniture is enchanted and can talk and some even wander around the dorm.
• The first one you notice is the large grandfather clock, he calls himself Edgar (エドガー). He greets the students and has the duty of ringing the time where classes should begin and when the students should wake up.
• Next is the stove, Gustove (グストヴェ). He is in charge of the kitchen and he makes the food in the dorm. The plates and cutlery aren’t sentient but for some reason they are able to levitate, due to a magic crystal infused within, Gustove’s metal body. SO he can do whatever he pleases with the items in the kitchen. Also he dislikes leftovers, but with Gustove as the chef every plate comes back empty.
• Lastly, there’s the talking wardrobes placed in every room. They aim to please by helping the students out with their outfits. Also they love to gossip, so there are those old pipes that is called a speaking tube that they use to communicate with.
Etymology
The dorm's name is derived from the French word "château" meaning "castle" while the word "beastiale" is a portmanteau of the words "beast" and "castle".

{Open small Roleplay
Ship: Rushbelle
Fandom:Stargate Universe/Once Upon A Time Crossover
Characters: Belle French & Dr. Nicholas Rush.
📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚📚
Belle sighed as she sat on her bed in her Quarters, it had been a few weeks since she had been in her room, since she and Rush had been sharing sleeping quarters for a while now. At First Belle had to sneak into Nick's room or he would sneak into hers. However, since the crew had found out that Belle and Rush were a couple, Belle had been staying with Rush in his room. Even though she had been having a hard time sleeping lately, Belle always slept sounding when she was in Nick's arms.
Even though Belle loved Rush with every beat of her heart, she had noticed that he had started pulling away from everyone, including her... Belle had tried to talk to him to see if she could find out what was going on, but every time he started to open up to her, he would suddenly grow cold and snap at her for no Reason. There had been a few times where he caused her to break into tears once she was alone, but she didn't tell him that. Even though Belle was going through her own problems, she wanted to be there for him but he wasn't making it easy.
Belle took a deep breath as she picked up his small note book that he had left in the room. After passing all his notes, she sighed deeply as she picked up a pen and started to write him a small letter.
My dearest Rush, I am writing to you because I don't know how to tell you this in person. I don't know what's going on with you, but lately you have been pushing everyone away, including me... Even though I want to be here for you, I can't do that if you won't talk to me. I love you with every beat of my heart, I don't think you will ever understand how much you mean to me. But lately all this has felt one sided. Did I do something wrong? Did I say something that upset you? Please talk to me, you know you can tell me anything.
I don't want to tell you this but, lately I have felt so alone, even when your here it feels like we are miles apart. I can't go on like this, I can't pretend that everything is alright when my gut tells me it's not. I understand if you need your space, I know how busy you are, but please don't push me away. I miss you and I miss how things used to be when we met. I love you and that will never change, I want us to work out, I want to spend the rest of my life with you. But there will come a time where I can't wait anymore. Even though I want to spend time with you like we used to do. I will respect your decision. Just never forget that I will always love and care about you, I will always be by your side and support your decisions no matter what happens between us... I will always be there.
-Belle

My media this week (12-18 Feb 2023)
📚 STUFF I READ 📚
😊 "List of People Who Disappeared Mysteriously at Sea" (Jen Myers) - nicely eerie short story
😊 In The Market For Murder (Lady Hardcastle Mysteries #2) (T.E. Kinsey, author; Elizabeth Knowelden, narrator) - again, I'm a fan of the breezy 'not-super-serious-about-historical-accuracy-in-the-small-details' tone; I really like that Flo & Lady H have this backstory/history that we only find small bits about here and there
😍 Same As It Ever Was (QuokkaFoxtrot) - 62K, Steddie - EXCELLENT time-loop fixit AU
🥰 Cabin Pressure - Series 1: Abu Dhabi to Fitton (John Finnemore, author; Stephanie Cole/Roger Allam/Benedict Cumberbatch/John Finnemore, voice cast) - entertained again by the crew of MJN Airlines
😍 Matchmaker, Matchmaker, Make Steve a Match (BlueSimplicity) - 209K, shrunkyclunks - omegaverse (but fairly nontrad, no mpreg) - the slow burn tag is not inappropriate but also it kind of doesn't FEEL that slow! deep worldbuilding, excellent epistolary component, incredible OC's, the differences/subversions of trad omegaverse tropes gave me clowfish AU vibes, which I loved
😍 Will Wonders Never Cease (PorcupineGirl) - 56K, zimbits AU, You've Got Mail/She Loves Me fusion - magic's real, Bitty's a tech witch with a very cute familiar - read this in one sitting and my face hurt when I was done from smiling so much
🥰 Luke and Billy Finally Get a Clue (Cat Sebastian) - novella, set in 1953; to paraphrase the official description: two best friend pro ball players finally figure their shit out, featuring: inclement weather, only one (real) bed and some hurt/comfort. Technically this is set in the Cabot Universe but there are zero Cabots in this one. Cat continues to score home runs on vibes alone. I love her books so, so much!
💖💖 +189K of shorter fic so shout out to these I really loved 💖💖
I Want You to Find Me (PorcupineGirl) - Check Please!: zimbits, 23K - canon-divergent AU where Bitty's a camboy that catches Jack's attention (while also still being his former teammate and all)
Ruin me (rainbow_nerds) - Stranger Things: steddie, 11K - absolutely cannot get enough of a reunion/2nd chance fic!!!!! fluffy AF!
Critical Feline Mass (Kryptaria, zooeyscigar) - MCU: stucky, 39K - no-powers AU where they're both retired military, Steve rents an apt to a still-struggling-to-reintegrate Bucky & sparks (and feelings) fly. also there are a lot of adorable kittens.
📺 STUFF I WATCHED 📺

Oh goodness! I am excited about this - it really does seem like fun ️ Thanks for the ask @kazoosandfannypacks!!
Marry - Graham (What can I say? 🤷🏼♀️ Is anyone here shocked by this answer? 🥰)
Drink tea with - Belle French (I’d rather coffee, but still, wouldn’t it be fun to sit and sip and talk about books with Belle? ☕️📚)
Party with - David Nolan (He just seems like he’d be fun and know everyone and everyone would like him, and yet he’d look out for you if things got too wild.)
Kiss - Killian Jones (Could I really pass up a chance to smooch our handsome Captain?)
Go out on a date with - Liam Jones (Handsome, chivalrous, charming, sounds like the recipe for a great date!)
Push down the stairs - Walsh (Enough said)
Slap - Regina (That would really be quite satisfying… 😉)
Invade the dreams of - Emma Swan (I’ll admit, this one had me stumped for a minute. Then I thought about how full of Killian Emma’s dreams probably are, and decided they’d be a pretty lovely place!)
Take a nap with - Mary Margaret Blanchard (It would probably be nice and cozy like cuddling up next to your mom when you were little! Plus, MM would have snacks, and all the pillows and blankets, and make sure you were comfy and everything was just right!)
Rob- Rumplestiltskin (Just think of the treasure trove he has squirreled away in his shop! I’d just have to make very sure I didn’t get caught!! 😬🫣)

『✣』 It wasn't Sir Gaston. It wasn't Sir Gaston. This thought prevailed above all others, softening the fears that had plagued her over the past two weeks. Her father had decided — announced for all the court to hear — that the French family tree should entwine with Sir Rumpelstiltskin's old and noble House.
Her knees had gone weak with relief. Sir Gaston's House was not as historic, but they were of the upstart gentry: nouveau riche, positively swimming in it. Her father had chosen prestige over gold, though she knew the allure of the latter had nearly sealed her fate.
Belle had suffered a fortnight of sleepless nights, imagining life as Gaston's bride — shallow smiles, forced laughs, biting back winces each time he opened his mouth. She felt like an inmate who had just narrowly missed her execution date.
A melancholy peace settled over her now, wandering idly through her garden, the air sweet and heady with honeysuckle. She would miss it here. Nearly as much as she would miss her library. Gaston's castle had a second training yard where a garden should have been and a display room of hunting trophies in place of a library. But Sir Rumplestiltskin....now, she was sure that would be a different story entirely.
Sir Rumple was older than most knights he called brethren, but he still rode strongly and wielded his sword with fine precision. Perhaps older was better. Older meant sturdy. It meant steady. It was not brash and boastful like a young buck that had just learned to kick.
Belle knew little of the man, really. She'd seen him ride a fair few times and watched him spar in passing. But what she had seen gave her hope that their marriage would be pleasant. Perhaps even companionable. He had kind eyes and a gentle set to his mouth. And once, while crossing paths on the stairs, his hand had caught her elbow - just gently enough to make sure his passing did not cause her to trip. Without a word, without a look. As if it were the most natural thing in the world to steady her.
It was no more than a second. Why did she remember it so clearly?
The sun was warm on her skin as she approached the fountain at the heart of her garden, intending to splash a bit of cool water on her face to centre her mind. But when she arrived, she found her favourite marble bench already occupied. Her betrothed, looking gallant as ever in his quilted doublet and silver ringmail.
❝ 𝐎𝐇, 𝐒𝐈𝐑 𝐑𝐔𝐌𝐏𝐄𝐋𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐋𝐓𝐒𝐊𝐈𝐍...𝐈... ❞ She smoothed her skirts and gave a small curtsy. ❝ 𝐈 𝐃𝐈𝐃 𝐍𝐎𝐓 𝐄𝐗𝐏𝐄𝐂𝐓 𝐓𝐎 𝐅𝐈𝐍𝐃 𝐀𝐍𝐘𝐎𝐍𝐄 𝐇𝐄𝐑𝐄, 𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐒𝐓 𝐎𝐅 𝐀𝐋𝐋 𝐘𝐎𝐔. 𝐈 𝐖𝐎𝐔𝐋𝐃 𝐇𝐀𝐕𝐄 𝐓𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐆𝐇𝐓 𝐘𝐎𝐔'𝐃 𝐒𝐓𝐈𝐋𝐋 𝐁𝐄 𝐈𝐍 𝐓𝐀𝐋𝐊𝐒 𝐖𝐈𝐓𝐇 𝐌𝐘 𝐅𝐀𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑. ❞
She thought, with a flutter of unease, that might be the most words she had ever spoken to him.
