Fictober 2021 (Gahan) - Day 23
Prompt No Day 23 - "This time, do as I say."
Fanfiction Fandom: The Devil Judge (TVN), Gahan, Lawful Husbands, Kang Yohan x Kim Gaon
Ratings: Teens and Up
Warnings: Fantasy AU. Magical creature (inspired by Kkomi). Disliking each other at first. Mild Violence.
(Credits goes to all the fantasy/urban fantasy/supernatural novels I've ever read, especially an American writer called Jim Butcher.)
“This time, do as I say,” Yohan hissed-whispered at his partner and got an eyeful of barely concealed dislike.
“Why should I? It’s not as if you’re that experienced.”
Ignoring him, his partner tried to crawl out of the bushes only to be brought short by Yohan grabbing his collar. Hauling him back till they were face to face, Yohan growled.
“Kim Gaon! I’m still your senior so watch your mouth.”
“You’re only two months older than me. What’s so senior about that!”
Trying to wrench his jacket out of Yohan’s death grip, Gaon accidentally kicked a rock and it hit a tree with a dull thud. The two of them froze, eyes darting to their target as trepidation sent their hearts racing. But their target remained fast asleep, curled into a ball on the steps of a ruined temple and the two of them heaved sighs of relief.
Breaking free from Yohan’s loosened grip, Gaon darted out before his partner could stop him. He could feel Yohan glaring murderously at him but Gaon couldn’t be bothered. This was their first mission and he was not going to fail just because Yohan wanted to play it safe.
Silent and nearly invisible due to the wards woven into the fabric of his clothing, Gaon concentrated. His hands moved in an intricate pattern as he murmured an incantation beneath his breath. Glistening threads of power began to form before him, interweaving together to form a tightly-knitted net.
When he was close enough, Gaon flung the spell at their target, confident of his triumph. However, he got the shock of his life when the cat leaped to its feet and with an irate yowl, it blasted his spell into smithereens. Gaon was flung back by the sudden unravelling of his magic and he landed hard on the ground.
Breath knocked out of him, Gaon was reeling from what had just happened. Magical creatures don’t have the power to break spells of entrapment but this one had just did it by the power of its voice only.
“Run! You stupid fool!”
Yohan yelled at him but Gaon couldn’t move, watching in morbid fascination as the cat hissed angrily, then it began to transform which wasn’t something magical creature could do either. It grew big and even bigger, and the steps beneath its feet were crushed by its weight. A third eye opened up in the middle of its forehead and a molten pool of gold glared furiously at him.
Before he knew it, Yohan was hauling him to his feet, pushing him ahead of him. Together they ran for their lives as the cat, now the size of a house, chased after them, sharp claws extended and nine tails waving dangerously.
“What the hell is that!” Gaon shouted as they dived to one side, narrowly escaping the paw that were about to slice their heads off.
“You mean you really don’t know?!”
Yohan couldn’t believe it but he was too busy trying to stay alive to dwell on it.
Scrambling to their feet they ran for the protection of the forest not far away. And ducking in, in the nick of time, they flattened themselves to the ground as several tails came smacking down determined to make pancakes of them.
But that didn’t happen, all thanks to the branches of the densely-packed hardwood trees which even diamonds couldn’t cut at all. Dashing deeper into the forest, they took shelter behind a fallen log, chest heaving as they struggled to regain their breathing.
“It’s a Celestial,” Yohan suddenly uttered and Gaon stared blankly at him before he realised that he was answering his earlier question.
“But I thought they were...”
Then his eyes narrowed as Gaon caught on to an unpleasant truth.
“You knew and you didn’t tell me!” Gaon’s eyes were seething with anger, “I know we don’t like each other but that doesn’t mean you can compromise the mission by withholding information!”
Yohan kept quiet. What could he say? That he didn’t trust anyone sent by the Courts? And Gaon was so obviously a spy sent to be his stumbling block. There were simply too many who wanted him dead and he had Elijah to worry about.
Keeping his eyes trained on the creature prowling the forest’s perimeter, trying to get in but with its size, it was proving to be difficult. Yohan knew it was a matter of time before it would return to its original form and he got to be ready.
Sitting up, he took out the items he had prepared beforehand – a can of cat food, a cat toy and something in an opaque Ziploc bag.
He could feel Gaon eyeing them curiously but didn’t bothered explaining anything to him. For there was a more pressing problem – would the creature accept him? Celestials, according to Isaac’s notes were extremely picky as to who they wanted to take ownership.
“How can I help?’”
Yohan looked at Gaon in surprise. He thought he would have washed his hands off him by now. But there was a sincerity in Gaon’s gaze even though he was scowling unhappily at him.
There was a moment of silence before Yohan pointed at the items he had laid out on the ground.
“You can’t capture a Celestial. You’ve got to persuade and sometimes, bribe.”
Picking up the can of cat food, he popped it open and offered it to Gaon.
”Don’t tell me I have to eat it!”
Gaon eyed the can suspiciously and Yohan nearly choked on the laughter that had suddenly bubbled up.
“It’s not for you. It’s for it.”
And Yohan went still as the creature, now back in its original form, stalked towards them.
“Gaon, I’m leaving it to you.”
Pushing the can into Gaon’s hands, Yohan hoped that he had made the correct decision. Otherwise...
Gaon stared at him, suddenly filled with doubt as to Yohan’s intention. Maybe this was but a ploy, sacrificing him in order to save his own ass. But there was only trust and faith in Yohan’s expression and Gaon licked his lips nervously.
Looking at the cat, body rigid and tail stiff and straight, Gaon shivered, fear running down his spine. He had heard the stories and they were so horrifying that they made death seemed like a blessing.
But it was, in a way, his fault, isn’t it?
Grabbing the can and the cat toy, Gaon was about to climb over the log when Yohan stopped him.
“Just in case...”
And he emptied the contents of the Ziploc bag into Gaon’s pockets.
Sniffing at its minty freshness, Gaon realised it was catnip and he couldn’t help but feel grateful, despite his disbelief. Celestials were guardian deities and he doubted that they would fall for such ordinary stuff.
"Promise me one thing...”
Gaon could see Yohan bracing himself as if he was about to ask him for a pound of his flesh.
“That we’ll have a talk if I’m still capable of doing it after this.”
Then Gaon was out of the safety of the fallen log, striding confidently towards the creature even though he was not feeling it.
Placing the can and the toy before it, Gaon knelt and gave a low bow.
“I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have attacked you but...”
Gaon looked the creature in the eye.
“I didn’t know who you were. We haven’t seen your kind for hundreds of years and you are not at all like what the stories said.”
Which had described them as bloodthirsty monsters that loved toying with their prey while devouring them bit by bit.
“However, it is still my fault and I’m willing to make amends in any way you deemed appropriate.”
Gaon fell silent, trying not to think too much about what would happen to him. He grew increasingly panicky as the creature just continued to stare and the urge to shut his eyes, blocking out its unnerving gaze, was so very tempting.
But that wasn’t how you deal with magical creatures. You got to keep a brave front for fear was the greatest motivator to get a predator to attack.
Then the cat began to move and Gaon nearly jumped to his feet and run away. Instead, he clenched his fists as the creature prowled around him, circling him many times. Its tail brushed against his arm and Gaon felt as if he had been whipped despite the gentleness of its action.
Finally pausing before him, the cat suddenly jumped onto his lap and Gaon screamed. It twitched its ears, as if irritated with his noise and its claws scratched lightly in warning against his thighs in.
Clamping a hand over his mouth, Gaon watched with frightened eyes as the creature settled down. Giving him one final contemptuous look, it curled up, tail swishing gently.
When nothing else happened for a while Gaon finally mustered the courage to call out to Yohan – voice strangled from an attempt to shout and whisper at the same time. Movements could be heard coming from behind him but Gaon dared not shift his eyes away lest something awful happened.
“Pick it up.”
He heard Yohan telling him as he stood besides him.
“Are you sure!”
Yohan wasn’t. He only had what Isaac had spent his whole lifetime researching and his own instinct.
“If it wanted you dead, it wouldn’t have let you speak.”
Carefully slipping his hands under it, Gaon was surprised by its incredible warmth and he was in love with its fur. Soft and silky, he couldn’t stop stroking the cat as sweet praises fell from his lips.
Yohan gaped at him. Had he forgotten what he was dealing with? Then his jaw dropped even more open when the Celestial butted its head against Gaon, purring happily.
“What now?” Gaon looked at him, his smile just as happy as the cat.
Shaking his head at what he had just seen, Yohan began to move his fingers, weaving a different pattern from Gaon’s earlier one. A portal appeared, growing wider until it was big enough for them to step through.
“We’ve got to report this.”
And with a gleeful smirk on his lips, Yohan gestured at Gaon to step through the portal. Celestials took their ownership seriously and he couldn’t wait to see Chief Min’s face when he tried to separate them.

Linger {Lee Hangyul x Kim Yohan x Reader} Chapter 2
Tumblr media
Navigating high school was expected to be difficult, but it was even more challenging without Mom there to guide you…
After the death of your mother, you move into your aunt’s tiny apartment amid the streets of Seoul. With your father working hard in the military, there was no way he could take care of you. Never in your seventeen years of living would you have expected to meet someone quite like the two boys you met. Their names were Kim Yohan and Lee Hangyul, and those names would soon become ingrained in your brain forever.
All you had wanted to do was survive…You wanted to get through the last year of high school without much trouble.
Yet, that was a faraway fantasy. No matter how much you wanted your past to go away, it would follow you wherever you went.

Friendship. In its entirety, it was something you craved. You desired to have a platonic bond with someone, but ever since the death of your mother, you were an outcast, a pariah. Yet, at Cheongdam High School, the students didn’t know that. You wanted to keep it that way.
One day, you were having lunch with your friend Song Hyeongjun. Hyeongjun was a funny boy, he was younger than you and had an odd yet charming aura to him. Sometimes, Hangyul and Yohan would join you two for lunch, but they usually took their lunchtime to go to Yohan’s father’s taekwondo studio. The two of them were fantastic fighters, according to Hyeongjun.
Despite never having seen him fight, you didn’t doubt one bit that Kim Yohan was exceptional at it. You didn’t doubt Kim Yohan at all, in fact, you believed in him. You trusted him. During those past three months of getting to know him, he had snuck his way into your heart. Yet, it was oddly comforting, seeing as you didn’t want him to leave your heart.
“I’m done, Hyeongjun. I’m gonna go outside for a bit.” You explained while cleaning up your tray filled with half-finished food. You picked up your backpack and went.
You arrived outside and decided to settle on a bench in front of the school. The school itself was huge and was protected by a huge gate. Beyond the gate was the beautiful setting of Seoul, the city you had grown to love just as if it were your home.
The blue sky was bright and inviting, along with the few wispy clouds scattered across the landscape. You felt truly content.
You took out your backpack and rummaged through it, looking for your phone, wanting to take a picture of this beautiful day.
Just as you were about to take the wonderful photo, a rather rude group of girls came by and ruined your entire mood.
The leader of the crew, Juda, wasn’t exactly your favorite person. She was known for being in love with Lee Hangyul, which didn’t affect you much. She would always whisper bad things about you, which you didn’t pay much attention to, but you still acknowledged the fact that she was rude to you.
Juda leaned down and took your phone from your hand, her dyed chestnut brown hair aggressively brushing your face while doing so. You immediately attempted to get it back, but your wrist was grabbed by one of Juda’s friends. You sighed exasperatedly.
“Can I have my phone back, please? While I’m asking nicely?” You threatened, your voice on the brink of breaking from pure frustration.
Nobody seemed to notice Kim Yohan and Lee Hangyul walking towards the scene, ready to help out. Yet, fortunately for them, they didn’t have to do much. The moment Juda tried to punch you, you blocked it immediately. When one of her friends tried to kick you from behind, you jumped up and dodged it just in time. Soon, the group of four girls were all ready to attack, swinging aimlessly and unsuccessfully. Within two minutes, the four girls had their butts on the ground, groaning in defeat. You grabbed your phone, which was on the ground near Juda, luckily unscathed.
“You should’ve just given me my phone back.” You calmly retorted, a smirk filled with victory etched onto your face.
Yet, the smirk was completely washed off of your face the moment you turned around. There stood Kim Yohan and Lee Hangyul, and during that moment, you wanted nothing else but to disappear. Expecting them to cower in fear, it was much to your surprise when they started clapping.
“That was...impressive.” Yohan murmured as he wore a sly grin. You then visibly untensed, but you still couldn’t hide your shock.
“Relax, Y/N, we’re not gonna report you or anything.” Hangyul giggled, which made you breathe a sigh of relief.
“Oh.” You managed to muster.
“Oh?” Yohan teased, quirking an eyebrow. Yohan was handsome alright; his big brown eyes, sleek black hair, and pink plump lips were tangible evidence.
“I should go…” You suggested, but you were stopped by Yohan’s grip on your wrist. You didn’t miss the way your heartbeat quickened, and you certainly didn’t miss the spark you felt when he touched you. You turned around, your skin on fire from his touch. You never wanted him to let go.
“Where did you learn to fight like that? I know those girls, and they aren’t bad fighters.” Yohan questioned, his hand still around your wrist. You were so focused on him that you missed Hangyul looking at you with longing in his eyes. He had so desperately wanted to break you two apart, but he knew you had already fallen for Kim Yohan, the best student in the school and his best friend. But he couldn’t do that to him or to you.
“My dad serves in the military, and he made me start taking Taekwondo when I was five. I just stopped recently, since I can’t afford it.” You muttered.
“Well, would you like to start again? Free of charge!”
The look you gave Yohan was incredulous. Your eyebrows were basically sky high, your mouth was basically underground from how far it dropped, and your eyes popped out of your head. It took you a moment to compose yourself.
“Huh?”
“I help volunteer at a Taekwondo studio with Hangyul. We teach kids and practice by ourselves as well. Would you like to join us?”
You pondered the idea. For a moment, you almost said no, since you felt like you were intruding. However, you didn’t have the stomach nor the heart to turn down Kim Yohan, so you ended up smiling and nodding.
“I’d love to.”
-
And so it began. Your bond with the two boys was strengthened little by little. Each session you taught brought the three of you closer together.
On one Friday evening, Hangyul noticed your mother’s necklace around your neck during practice. “Why do you wear that necklace while fighting? It could hurt you.” Hangyul questioned, pointing to the object around your neck. You fidgeted with it for a bit.
“It was my mother’s.”
Hangyul gave you an unreadable look with a mysterious glint in his eyes. You cowered a bit, too ashamed to make eye contact.
You hated yourself whenever you thought of your mother. If only you could go back and save her…
Hangyul noticed your tearful eyes before you did.
“Hey, it’s okay. You don’t need to get into it.” He reassured. You nodded and gave him a weak smile.
“Thank you, Hangyul. I really mean it.”
-
Hangyul laid awake in bed later that night, tossing and turning with you fresh in his mind. He couldn’t rid you of his mind no matter how hard he tried. Hangyul knew you didn’t like him, but it still hurt nonetheless. Unrequited love wasn’t exactly fun.
Deciding that it would be a sleepless night, Hangyul got out of bed and started to go downstairs to get a glass of water. When he heard his parents talking in a grave tone, however, he suddenly stopped. He quietly stood at the top of the stairs and listened to his parents, who were in the kitchen.
“How do we tell him, Sookyung?” Hangyul’s father asked, strain apparent in his voice.
“I don’t know, honey. He keeps looking for her, and I don’t think he’ll ever stop until he meets her or gets answers.”
Hangyul gulped. What was so wrong with meeting his biological mother? What were his parents hiding?
The moment he heard his parents’ footsteps, he quietly tip-toed back to his room and feigned sleep in his bed.
His mind went back to you, and his heart began to hurt.
-
Woosh! The sound of Yohan’s fist gliding past your face, just barely missing, was heard among the quiet studio.
The two of you continued to spar, punches and kicks being expertly thrown, until you had Yohan pinned beneath your leg. After he started hitting your leg, letting you know that you won, you shot up and screamed a shrill of joy.
“Finally! I beat you!” You laughed, sticking your tongue out at him afterward. He merely crossed his arms and glared at you playfully.
“I’m hungry,” Yohan said in an attempt to change the subject.
“Yeah, I guess losing can make you hungry.” You taunted, which led to Yohan chasing you aimlessly around the studio. He finally caught up to you, grabbing your wrist and smirking triumphantly.
The two of you stared at each other for just a bit. His beautiful brown eyes stared into yours, and you never wanted to look away.
He was beautiful.
On the other hand, Yohan’s heart was beating unnaturally fast. Why was it doing that?
You tried to laugh the oddly intimate moment off, smoothly slipping yourself from his grasp around your wrist.
“Let’s go get food!” You cheered. Yohan nodded and smiled. After you ran off to go and get changed, Yohan stared at himself in the taekwondo studio’s mirror.
What was wrong with him? Why were his cheeks flushed?
He couldn’t get your warm, adorable smile out of his head. He also couldn’t ignore the tingling feeling you gave him, or the sparks he felt whenever he touched you.
And then, it hit him like a bullet train.
He was falling for you.
-
The two of you went to a small, local restaurant right by the taekwondo studio. The night was filled with laughter and smiles, the two of you just getting lost in each other’s eyes.
After a bit of small talk, the two of you got to know each other a bit better. For example, you learned about his favorite color (which was blue), his reason for starting taekwondo (he wanted to learn how to protect his family), and his life at home.
Soon, it turned into him venting to you. His parents, who were constantly fighting, drove him absolutely insane. You listened attentively and hoped you could give him some advice. You mindlessly chewed on your food as he went on about the stress he was feeling.
“I just don’t feel like I’m doing this whole ‘life’ thing right.” He confessed, avoiding eye-contact with you, as if he were ashamed.
You pondered his thought for a moment.
“There is no right way to live life,” You began, “and there is no wrong way. That’s the thing about living, you have days where things feel right and days where things feel wrong. There isn’t a rulebook to this, nor is there a proper way to be human. You just have to be you, and not some ‘picture-perfect’ guy. Only after that will you start feeling better.”
Yohan stared at you innocently. You couldn’t help but internally smile at his adorable side.
“Wow, you’re really good at giving advice. And, you’re right.” He murmured. You chuckled slightly, your heart swelling with warmth.
After your lovely night together, you finally went home to your apartment. By then, it was December. It had been a few months since you got your father’s last letter, but you were still shocked to see it on the coffee table nonetheless.
You sighed and mentally prepared yourself. You toyed with the necklace around your neck; it was a nervous habit you had picked up ever since you got it.
You opened up the letter and let out a sigh of relief once you saw how short it was.
But then, your heart stopped. A photograph fell out of the envelope. The photo encased a picture of your mother, your father, and you.
You were happy. And, more importantly, you were together.
Without even realizing it, tears started to cascade down your face. Your heart began to hurt, more than it ever did before. You clutched your chest, and suddenly you realized you were crying.
You missed your mother more than anything else; if you could just go back to that night…
Everything would be different, if only you were a bit quicker.
Your mind went back to the night your mother died. It was a tranquil evening, and you big your mother good night before going upstairs to your room.
Little did you know that those would be the last words your mother would ever hear from you.
You quickly texted your father a good night message and then fell asleep without any trouble. Before you could’ve even realized it, you were in a nice, peaceful sleep.
You awoke to the sound of a plate breaking. You shot up from your bed, your chest heaving and your breaths heavy and uneven. Your eyes darted around your room, which was a quaint and comfy place.
Soon, you heard a noise you would never forget--the sound of your mother screaming for help.
You wanted to go and run to her, but you knew that you could hurt yourself. You then heard footsteps creak against the wooden floors of your kitchen--the steps much too heavy to be your mother’s.
There was an intruder.
You then got a pair of scissors from a container on your desk and quietly tip-toed downstairs. Your fear was about to swallow you whole, until you remembered who you were trying to save.
Alas, you were too late. Your mother laid on the floor in a pool of her own deep red blood. It was a sight that would be permanently engraved in your brain, your mother’s body clinging onto what little life there was left for her.
Anger devoured you. The man, who looked shocked to see another human being, quickly reacted. Yet, your years of training in taekwondo had managed to save your life. You kicked him in the groin and he hunched over, dropping the bloody knife he held. You threw the scissors aside; you had found a better weapon.
You grabbed his knife and plunged it into his stomach. You cried out at the disturbing noise.
He fell to the ground, he had lost consciousness very quickly. You rushed over to your counter and grabbed the phone, dialing the emergency service number as quickly as humanly possible.
After hanging up the phone, you stared at your mother with traumatized eyes. Soon, the reality of the situation started to sink in with a merciless twinge.
You had killed a man, and your mother was going to die.
You rushed over to where your mother laid, tears falling down your eyes like an ocean tide.
“Mom, I’m so sorry...I should’ve been here quicker.” You sobbed, holding her hands. Yet, she didn’t have the strength to respond. Her breaths soon thinned out and halted.
Your mother was dead.
-
You finally read your father’s letter.
Y/N,
I thought you should have this photo. I’m sorry it has been so long, I’ve been so busy with the army. I hope you can smile at this picture just like I did.
-Your father.
You remembered the times when you would talk to your father daily on the phone. Now, the two of you would send each other a letter every so often. It seemed as if your life ended that night, too.
Or, you thought it did. But, after many months of being without your mother, you had realized something:
The living must live.
So, you smiled at the photo of the three of you, fulfilling your father’s wish.
Your mind then roamed back to the cute boy you had so desperately fallen for. You giggled slightly at the thought of your mother when she figured out you had a crush. She would have loved it!
Although your heart felt a bit empty, you smiled. I have to live on, you thought, I have to.

The Heartbreak Club (Chapter 4)
Chapter 4: Non-antagonistic Antagonist
Tumblr media
previous: chapter 3
The antagonist is just as important to the story as the main lead characters. Not only do they add suspense and an opposing force, they can make or break the story. Sometimes, their mistakes cause a ripple effect to every other character in the story. When you take out the antagonist, what happens to the plot?
More importantly, when the motivation is gone and the secrets are forgotten, what is their end goal?
In the end, you were barely able to convince Seungwoo not to walk you back to the dorms. You dig through your memory to remember the next plot point in the drama:
Devoured by pride from the night of the gathering, Kim Hana, the real one, decides her first phase of creating chaos. Unfortunately, blinded by her rage, she seeks out the wrong person.
Kim Wooseok.
With a sculptured face and eyes like a deer, Kim Wooseok was type of character that attracted with just one minute on screen. He has only had eyes for one girl ever since he met her. Kim Wooseok was the second male lead that would pin for the girl until the very end. In “The Heartbreak Club”, the difference in the main lead and the second lead was not timing. The Wooseok on the inside was different from what you saw on the outside.
You enter the office for your major and sign in to see a counselor to help with your current situation. You are in deep thought of how to tell them you needed to leave the major you were currently in until you feel a light push on your forehead.
“You’ll get wrinkles faster if you always look like your in pain.” Wooseok took a seat next to you and comfortably stretched out his legs.
You look at him in surprised and hold your forehead, “Oh, I was just thinking about something.”
“I’m assuming you got home safely yesterday?” Wooseok asks.
You nod.
Wooseok looks down at you, “Why are you here?”
You shake your head, “I want to change my major.”
Wooseok has a small look of surprise for a few seconds and slowly nods. He glances at you, “Can I ask you why?”
“I want to go for something that I can enjoy. I’m just not cut out for engineering.”
Wooseok mockingly laughs, “Are you being modest or just fishing for compliments? You’re one of the best students in your year.”
And again, you are reminded that you were still Kim Hana. “I might be, but I don’t want to do it anymore.”
Wooseok looks down at his lap and then back at you, “Where do you want to change to?”
“When I lived in the hospital, all I did was sketch for a hobby. I want” You pause your sentence and come to a realization.
“You lived at the hospital?” The features on Woosek’s face gets softer as if he was releasing all tension in his expression.
“It wasn’t for very long.” You quickly answer. “Why are you here, Wooseok-sunbae?”
“For personal reasons." Wooseok answers. His stare lingers on you for a few more seconds until he looks down at his phone.
Talking to a counselor about changing your major with grades like Hana’s was an interesting conversation, but in the end, you could not change your major mid-semester. You agree to stick out in the major, but will comeback towards the end of the semester to change it.
Just like that, a normal week passed. That is, if normal was being completely lost in class and facing an identity crisis.
You slowly change Hana’s dull room into something more lively. Her bare beige walls now had fairy lights illuminating the darkness of the night. You also bought a medium-sized pin board to post up pictures. So far, you only had one picture of a cat that hung around your dorm’s building.
The gray bed sheets and comforters were now changed into a lilac purple, your favorite color. The color gave you a feeling of assurance and warmth.
Throughout the week you noticed Hana’s source of finances came from a joint bank account with her father. Feeling uncomfortable in using her father’s money, you started looking for a part time job.
Speaking of her father, you remember his supporting role in the drama. He was what you would call “a fool for his daughter”. He was Hana’s pillar, her weakness. It seemed like every time she talked to her father, her words were rough, but was filled worry.
He had only sent you one text message ever since you became Kim Hana.
To which, you did not reply to him. You felt uncomfortable fooling Hana’s father. But that same night he sent the message, you turned off your fairy lights in your room and let the moonlight become your source of light. He reminded you of your real mother. And you wished you treated her just a little better.
“Do you want to check it out? Its free.”
You turn around to the source of the angelic and cheerful voice. A petite girl stood behind you carrying a huge canvas.
Her crescent shaped eyes when she smiled finally revealed who she was, Kim Chaewon.
This was the thing about “The Heartbreak Club”. It was not only the main lead’s story, but the college life of several students. Kim Chaewon was a supporting female character. She had befriended Kim Minju because birds of the same feather flock together. Automatically, she was the spunky small bean who would go on to cheer for Minju’s plight for Han Seungwoo. Naturally, Kim Chaewon was pulled in her own small love triangle with two other male supporting leads.
When you did not answer, she smiled, “Don’t just stand outside, the fourth years made some really great pieces for this exhibit.”
Walking down the campus, you had found yourself going inside the Art’s Building for the first time.
You slowly nod, “Do you need some help?”
Chaewon shakes her head, “I look scrawny, but the canvas isn’t that heavy.” she giggles.
“Hey, small fry!” A male voice calls out.
You turn your attention to the person running over, ‘Seungyoun?’
“Hana? What are you doing here?” Seungyoun stands next to Chaewon, grabbing the canvas from her.
“She came to see the exhibit, right?” Chaewon gives you a cheeky smile and locks arms with you, pulling you through the doors of the exhibition room.
As soon as your enter, your mouth gapes open at all of the paintings fitted into the room. Your eyes light up at all the wonderful colors and unique art expressions.
Chaewon has a proud smile on her face and grabs the canvas from Seungyoun, “I’ll be right back.”
You slowly make your way to a particular painting. It was a watercolor painting of a bouquet of lilacs. You stare at the painting and a memory of your mother placing lilacs on your bed side table flashes through your mind.
Aren’t these great?
I guess.
This girl, you’re never going to see the brighter things in life if you choose to gray scale your vision.
I like them a lot. Thank you.
You close your eyes and almost hear your mom say your real name.
You turn your body away from Seungyoun when you feel a drop fall down your cheek, “Wow, these paintings are great.”
However, Seungyoun’s already seen the lone tear that escaped.
Cho Seungyoun was probably one of the very few characters with a more normal backstory. Wearing a heart on his sleeve, he is set to pursue his dream to become a music producer. However, he did not expect it when he slowly became interested in a small girl that was always carrying too much art supplies and that his music take form in the shape of his newly found interest, Kim Chaewon.
“Are you crying?” Just like the straight-forward character that he was, he does not miss a beat to ask you.
“I think its just the fresh paint fumes.” you quickly wipe the tear and sniffle.
“Right.”
“I have to go.” You give him a weak wave and start to leave.
“Hey! Come back again.” Chaewon says from across the room.
You look at Seungyoun, then at Chaewon and nod.
Everything was catching up with you at a fast pace. You wonder what happened to your old life. If this was your second chance, then does this mean you do not exist in your past life?
All the questions floating in your head frustrated you, but you kept calm. Other than completing your bucket list, was this going to last forever? You were in someone else’s life, living their reality.
Another part perplexed you. You knew the background stories of all, if not most, of all the people around you. Were they actually part of your reality?
Deep inside, you were just a weak and sick ridden person with little to no knowledge of life outside your hospital bedroom.
But, little did you know, the story that you once knew was slowly changing its course.
A month passes by as if nothing happened. You were still having trouble in your computer classes, while you were barely surviving general education classes. You got a part time job near your school at a cafe.
You also kept your distance from all the characters you knew about. Yohan was the hardest to keep away from because of his interest toward Kim Hana, but you successfully avoided him. It was the best for them to follow the path they were destined to follow.
Syntax error
You let out deep sigh and lightly slam your fingers on the keyboard. You see a shadow creeping up behind you and you jump in surprise.
Hangyul looked at the screen on your computer and scrolled through the code using the keyboard. “You forgot to define this. It won’t work if you randomly insert it with no formula or integer.”
Opposite of Cho Seungyoun, Lee Hangyul was a student of secrets. Not much was known other than the fact that he was adopted. He was just Cho Seungyoun’s best friend. The love triangle between Seungyoun, Chaewon, and Hangyul was an obvious endgame. If Kim Wooseok’s pain did not cause second male lead syndrome, Lee Hangyul’s did.
You watch him type something and successfully run the program. “Thanks.”
Hangyul takes the computer next to you and leans on the table of the computer, “Don’t take this to offense, but are you sick?”
Wary of his suspicion, you give him a confused expression, “What are you talking about?”
“That day of our midterm, I carried you to the health office.”
You point at him, “It was you?”
“After that happened, you changed.” Hangyul says quietly. “I was just gonna ignore it because we’re not close or anything.”
You wait for him to continue.
“But, I can’t.”
“Why not?”
Hangyul pauses, “Because a situation changed.”
The Heartbreak Club Episode 7
“I don’t need this from you, Hana.” Wooseok got up from the chair.
“You like Kim Minju. I know you do.” Hana slowly makes her way closer to him. “I’m just saying we should work together.”
Wooseok scoffed, “You’re a real work of art, you know that?”
“What are you guys doing here?” Seungyoun’s raises his eyebrows.
“We’re on a date.” Hana states. She looks at the petite girl next to Seungyoun.
Chaewon slowly raises her hand, “Hey, I’m Chaewon.”
Seungyoun looks at Wooseok in confusion.
“Lets go, Hana.” Wooseok grabs Hana’s wrist and pulls her out of the exhibit room.
“Chaewon is one of Minju’s closest friends. It won’t be long until she tells her.” Hana tells Wooseok as he pulls her farther from the building.
Wooseok finally stops in his tracks, “So?”
“I’ve known Minju for years and she won’t stand anyone else getting attention other than her.”
Wooseok shakes his head, “That’s what you think.”

British Championships: Dina Asher-Smith, Laura Muir and Zharnel Hughes among names to watch
British Championships: Dina Asher-Smith, Laura Muir and Zharnel Hughes among names to watch
British Championships: Dina Asher-Smith, Laura Muir and Zharnel Hughes among names to watch
Selection for the inaugural Athletics World Cup is a new incentive for British Championships competitors
British Athletics Championships Date: 30 June – 1 July Venue: Alexander Stadium, Birmingham Coverage: Live video coverage on Red Button (Saturday) and BBC Two (Sunday). Full details
The British Championships is one event, over two days with three-fold implications.
First and foremost, it is a chance for athletes to write their name in national history by becoming British champion.
Secondly, it offers a chance of a spot on the continental stage with the top two in each event qualifying for August’s European Championships – provided they have also achieved British Athletics’ qualifying standard.
Lastly, and for the first time, each event winner will represent Great Britain in the inaugural Athletics World Cup at London Stadium a fortnight later.
Steve Cram, whose glittering career included several British titles, picks out the most eye-catching events in Birmingham.
Women’s 100m (final – Saturday at 16:45 BST)
Dina Asher-Smith sets new British 100m record at Diamond League Bislett Games
Dina Asher-Smith is having a brilliant season.
After 2017 was disrupted by a broken foot, she has got stronger and stronger, breaking her own British record in the Diamond League in Oslo and claiming some major scalps in victory in Stockholm.
Fastest Britons this year Dina Asher-Smith 10.92 Asha Philip 11.21 Imani Lansiquot 11.24 Daryll Neita 11.29
The reigning European champion over 200m has given nothing away about what she might do at the trials, but I suspect she will limit herself to the 100m.
Asha Philip looks the best of the rest.
This year she has done the full monty of the World Indoors and the Commonwealths, where she was disappointing, but I would be surprised if she doesn’t claim a top-two spot if injury free.
Men’s 100m (final – Saturday at 16:55 BST)
Hughes beat former world champion Yohan Blake on his way to victory in a time of 9.91 seconds at the Racers Grand Prix
The men’s sprint events are perhaps the most intriguing part of the weekend and the 100m has the greater strength in depth.
There are already eight athletes who have run the 10.25-second qualifying standard set by British Athletics.
The man to beat is Zharnel Hughes. The 22-year-old was briefly 2018’s fastest man and remains top of the European charts after his 9.91 run in Jamaica this month.
Fastest Britons this year Zharnel Hughes 9.91 seconds Reece Prescod 10.04 Ojie Edoburun 10.04 Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake 10.08
The form of Reece Prescod, Ojie Edoburun and Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake means CJ Ujah – last season’s Diamond League winner – is only the fifth fastest Briton of the year.
It is so difficult to call and, given it is such a stacked field, it would be brave of any of those contenders to skip a head-to-head contest and rely on convincing the selectors with their performances elsewhere.
Men’s 1500m (final – Sunday at 16:08 BST)
O’Hare (right) won a fiercely contested 1500m final in 2017
Great Britain have the top four athletes in Europe in Josh Kerr, Charlie Grice, Chris O’Hare and Jake Wightman.
You could say that whoever secures a spot this weekend has a huge chance of a European medal. In truth, times do not always translate so easily to medals in the 1500m.
Fastest Britons this year Josh Kerr 3:35.01 Charlie Grice 3:35.72 Chris O’Hare 3:35.96 Jake Wightman 3:35.97
Last year, it was O’Hare who kicked away to beat Kerr and Wightman and leave 2016 champion Grice back in fifth.
With less than a second separating the quartet in 2018, we can be sure of another classic, tight race.
Men’s 800m (final – Sunday at 15:01 BST)
Andrew Osagie is engaged to former British middle distance runner Emily Pidgeon
If anything there is even more strength in depth here.
Kyle Langford, who won silver for England at the Commonwealth Games in April, is missing with a back injury, but there is still a stellar field in his absence.
After a series of injuries, London 2012 finalist Andrew Osagie is back and running fast regularly.
Fastest Britons this year Andrew Osagie 1:45.09 Kyle Langford 1:45.16 Jamie Webb 1:45.73 Jake Wightman 1:45.82
Elliot Giles, who is part of the same training group as Langford down in Brighton with Jon Bigg, has struggled a little bit, but you should never write off such a talent.
Behind them you have the likes of Jamie Webb, Jake Wightman and Daniel Rowden.
And then there is Guy Learmonth. The Scot, who has been an outspoken critic of the British Athletics set-up, also has a happy knack of upsetting the apple cart on the track as well.
It is going to be fascinating.
Women’s 800m (final – Sunday at 15:36 BST)
Adelle Tracey and Shelayna Oskan-Clarke celebrate made the World Championship team 12 months ago
Laura Muir is ranked number one in Europe over two laps but, with the European Championships schedule making it pretty much impossible to double up, she may opt to aim her efforts at the 1500m instead.
Fastest Britons this year Laura Muir 1:59.09 Alex Bell 1;59.93 Shelayna Oskan-Clarke 2:00.81 Adelle Tracey 2:00.91
Shelayna Oskan-Clarke is the defending champion after a sterling run last year, but she has been joined in sub two-minute territory by Alex Bell this season.
Behind them Adelle Tracey and Rio 2016 finalist Lynsey Sharp are both threats.
There are only two European Championship places for them to fight over.
Women’s long jump (Sunday at 15:42 BST)
Lorraine Ugen and Shara Proctor will renew their rivalry from the Commonwealth Games
This looks to be the best of the field events in terms of depth of competition.
Shara Proctor and Lorraine Ugen finished third and fourth respectively at the Commonwealth Games earlier this year, with six centimetres separating the English pair.
Best Britons this year Shara Proctor 6.89m Lorraine Ugen 6.85m Jazmin Sawyers 6.66m Abigail Irozuru 6.60m
Proctor was a world silver medallist in 2015 but Ugen, who was part of the gold-medal winning 4x100m relay team on the Gold Coast, has an international field medal of her own after winning a European indoor silver last year.
They are fourth and eighth in the world in terms of performance this season.
Elsewhere Jazmin Sawyers is a former Olympic finalist, while Abigail Irozuru has jumped 6.60m already this season.
Steve Cram was speaking to BBC Sport’s Mike Henson.

Palace too good for relegated West Brom
Crystal Palace celebrated Premier League survival with a fine display to beat West Brom and ensure the already-relegated visitors finished bottom.
The hosts, who guaranteed safety with victory over Stoke last week, dominated throughout but were frustrated for long spells by the Baggies, with Ben Foster denying Wilfried Zaha before the break.
The impressive Zaha finally opened the scoring on 70 minutes, clipping in from Patrick van Aanholt’s cross.
Van Aanholt added a second soon after, rounding Foster after a deft passing move on the edge of the West Brom area.
Palace defender Pape Souare came on as a substitute to make his first appearance since a horrific car crash in September 2016 that threatened to end his career.
The Baggies were resolute but limited in attack as they fell to a first defeat under caretaker manager Darren Moore.
More to follow.

Salah secures three points for Liverpool at Palace
Mohamed Salah’s late goal snatched a victory for Liverpool at Crystal Palace and left their hosts two points above the relegation zone.
The Egyptian took a touch before firing past keeper Wayne Hennessey after Andy Robertson had crossed in from the left.
Luka Milivojevic had converted from the spot early in the first half to give Palace the lead after Loris Karius took out Wilfried Zaha.
And Sadio Mane turned in James Milner’s cross shortly after the break to level.
Liverpool had plenty of chances to score in the first half at Selhurst Park as Salah’s curling effort tested Hennessey and Mane came close with two headed efforts.
Karius’ early error looked costly as Palace clung on until half-time but Liverpool responded within four minutes of the restart when Milner and Robertson combined down the left to set up Mane.
Christian Benteke then missed two clear goalscoring chances in as many minutes before Patrick van Aanholt’s fizzing free-kick was palmed away by Karius.
There were appeals for Mane to be shown a second yellow card after he picked up the ball on the edge of the area but referee Neil Swarbrick settled for a free-kick.
The Reds then completed the comeback when Salah scored his 29th Premier League goal of the season.
More to follow.
