No one in the cast is right for JC but I do think he wants and deserves a suitable wife so I like the idea of reading something where he's in a relationship. His problem is that he needs just, so much therapy before he can make an effective life partner for anyone. He features in this postcanon AU I wrote and that's a reasonable depiction of how I think things could shake out for him after many years have passed if he's worked on himself. Basically, I know his extracanonical list of qualities he requires in a wife is meant to be humorous, but I tried to incorporate them into an OC while also making her a match for him.

I dabbled in reading Sangcheng because I am a slave to @starwife and like, in theory, many many many many many years postcanon who knows what might happen? And mightn't that be interesting? Sadly I have come to the conclusion that it's too much of a stretch and isn't my cup of tea. Pls forgive

I was racking my brain to think of a JC pairing I kneejerk hate beyond the general 'well, he isn't really compatible with any of the characters we meet' stance and then I realised I had forgotten Xicheng exists. Pause for audience laughter.

What can I even add here? It's based on nothing and it's not even like there's the intelligence of a thoughtful resistant read behind it. The laziest possible pair the spares approach taken by people whose reading comprehension is so poor they think JGY is an irredeemable cackling villain and WWX is a noble woobie. Thankfully it's easy for me to avoid and therefore ironically ends up irritating me less than bad Xiyao in practice.

favorite platonic/familial relationships

I love his relationship with his mother. She's just horrendous to him and I don't think he ever has any concrete evidence she loves him until their final moments together, but what I find most interesting and realistic is that he seems to understand her. He can see why she is who she is, which doesn't in any way mitigate the damage she does but is an important part of their dynamic because it's an element of why he defends her and it contributes to how he internalises her criticisms.

My favourite JC and YZY moment is this:

YZY emotionally, verbally and sometimes physically abuses her son. She is failing him as a mother and as a mentor. But she is not failing him as badly as JFM is failing him, and everything she says here is completely correct. And when JC and WWX talk about it afterwards, JC is also correct. WWX and LWJ kill the Xuanwu of Slaughter and no one cares or gives JC credit for his less glamorous contributions. His own father prefers WWX and doesn't even like him, and that is appalling.

WWX means well by trying to gloss over it, but it's an open secret and pretending it's not true is harmful. YZY is also going about it all wrong, but she's the only person who calls JFM out directly for failing his son. Pot, kettle, but there's a reason why when JC is stuck between his parents he ends up going over to his mother's side.

a headcanon that is popular in the fandom but that i disagree with

I'm going to go radical here and say I don't personally enjoy or want to read any postcanon Twin Heroes reconciliation. The novel is pretty final about how things end up for them, and it's my belief that they are both far better off not being in each other's lives any more. It's sad because they were close as brothers and love each other so deeply, but ultimately it's for the best. They both appear to be in agreement about this.

Besides, it cracks me up that JC is far and away the most stylish member of the cast in CQL, and yet there's no indication that it's actually an interest of his. CQL NHS wearing his same basic bitch grey and white yet again while CQL JC swaggers past in his shoulder pads owning the entire world—amazing. How could I pick a favourite? I do like his official photo look though, because the gold looks great with the purple.

I think a larger project is starting to form in my head 🤔 probably remnants of wanting to do something more "serious", or at least more grounded (well, 'grounded' relative to Wizkens lol)

So like, fun fact, the latter half of my teenhood was dominated by this story & OCs that I never really did anything with (in many ways I don't think a lot of it aged well at all 😬)

And I'm not revisiting that story in particular (pls no) but I do think it left a residue of wanting to do a more "serious" worldbuildy work at some point

That became very obvious when I started contributing ideas to my spouse's TTRPG setting worldbuilding was clearly something I completely forgot I was passionate about but, with that, my spouse obviously has the final word on which ideas they actually want to use so although that's been a fun creative outlet it's still left that lingering desire for a "serious" setting that I have total control over (and wizkens is not quite scratching that itch either since it's smaller scale & pretty silly lol)

So anyway I think I will probably be channeling my love of nature knowledge into whatever this ends up being like, for example years ago I learned a ton about frogs there were so many neat little facts that I thought would be fun to exaggerate & twist into more of a fantasy thing

And I think it might be something like that; an interconnected series of games(?) about different animal/nature kingdoms--with worldbuilding rooted in real biology, but exaggerated & fantasyfied. In an almost educational way =P

Heck I may even go ahead & start this series w/the frog-based one. You know, after wizkens….i suppose… But maybe just a little bit of planning/brainstorming in the meantime, as a treat >>

TL;DR I am approaching that particular dev hell of being tormented by new game ideas 🙃

hi!! my artfight is pyjamac same as on here i haven't got everything set up for this year yet though… i am a mountain goats fan though not as much as my brother haha. that drawing is of my oc sal and my boyfriend @/invasato's oc ellie! they're these two guys who work for a us independent agency that's in charge of regulating supernatural creatures and happenings (like imagine if the usps or amtrak was the x-files right it's that). they travel the country and kill monsters, or just give them a stern talking to. they were assigned to each other as partners after sal was injured and had to take several months off and his former partner was reassigned and ellie's partner was killed. sal's this recovering charlatan type like he's really only concerned with making it from one moment to the next which gets him in a lot of trouble a lot of the time bc mostly he's just out here entertaining himself. he has this idea of himself as really high class really sophisticated but in a really outdated way he got from tv as a kid and mostly an act to distance himself from his upbringing in very rural farmland ny lol. ellie is my boyfriend's oc and xe'd do a better job telling you about her but to me she's a really genuine really sweet extremely pathetic person. he has a curse also which contributes to the boths of them's perpetually on the run from something nature…… they're very good friends they're bffs and they also have a weird gay thing going on being that ellie is hopelessly desperately in love w sal and sal likes him too and is really possessive of ellie in a non heterosexual way but ultimately too emotionally neutered to really know what that feeling is and too fixated on "not being tied down" to do anything about it if he did (like he has an idea but mostly it's like yeah i think she's hot but unfortunately then it would be weird between us so i can't oh well no other options). their story exists as a tv show in our heads and we have episodes so something does happen between them it just does take a whole season and then like well into season 2 to talk abt it lol. anyway there will be no divorce… i think black pear tree is really sal i think he has a lot of that feeling like well it's only a matter of time. also genesis 30:3… :•( which i know is like actually very explicitly abt a specific story but whatever like ellie would truly do anything for sal even though he's often kind of bad to him/takes advantage of this.

“oc”tober part 1

i’ve never shown anyone my ocs before but i think it would be fun to share. i have A LOT of characters in my hoard so i figure i should introduce them in batches. i’m using picrew images since i haven’t made art for most of my ocs yet.

i want to start with a professor layton story idea i’ve had for years. it revolves around ex-targent agents after the events of the main series.

a long list of character descriptions beneath the cut! if you read this post, i love you

the main character is ania, formerly agent kingfisher.

she’s in her mid twenties and lives in london, working as a software engineer (on primitive software, since the pl-verse only has early computers). she grew up in the nest, with her mother and aunt also serving targent.

agent kingfisher worked in cryptology, creating codes and having encrypted communications with agents in the field. she decided to run away from the nest when she was told to give an agent orders that she morally disagreed with.

living outside of the nest for the first time, she’s anxious and reserved, with only one friend. she came to london to find her aunt, who worked undercover for targent in the area. however, her aunt disappeared from targent’s radar a few years before ania herself ran away. she’s going to need help to track her down.

this is ashby, ania’s one friend. he runs a pawn shop in london, and became friends with ania after he hired her to create an indexing system for his inventory. he doesn’t really need one, he’s just the type who’s interested in everything and was curious to see how it might work. he enjoys seeing all the unique items people bring to his shop. he knows hershel layton and often shows him objects that might be valuable antiques or artifacts.

like ania, he’s left behind the people he used to be close to. there’s not much holding him back from joining her on her journey.

ania’s aunt: former agent gull, who worked undercover as beryl tenebar. her real name is nadia, but it’s subject to change. it sometimes takes a long time for me to find a name that really feels right for a character.

she and her sister, agent crane, both joined targent as young adults, training together as soldiers. while crane stayed in the military, gull dreamed of a glamorous life and trained to work undercover in london. with a high-class heiress persona, she infiltrated the upper social circles in the area, both to find individuals who could contribute to targent’s cause and to obtain information. as i mentioned, she has disappeared.

agent crane is ania’s mother and gull’s elder sister and she became a high-ranking targent commander. after the events of azran legacy, crane refused to acknowledge swift as the new leader. she fortified the base she and her soldiers had built in an area rumored to have azran relics. For years she has controlled the base as well as a nearby village as she continues to search for the ancient remains.

i think that’s all i’m going to share for now bc i’m tired and i want to post something lol. i have quite a few other characters for this particular story as well as for other universes.

Welp I have an idea that I’ve been wanting to discuss for a while and kind of did during Nonbinary Week and I will gladly use this as an excuse to talk about it so thank you very much anon (genuinely thank you I didn’t actually expect to get any asks about my OC when I reblogged that sjkfhfljh)

I’ll put this under a read more so if people aren’t interested they dont have to hear me blabbing on about my characters

I’m going to be talking about 5 characters but I’m not gonna like… go too deep into them cause that involves delving into some more personal matters that if I were to ever fully share them I would need to give each of them their own posts. And they also have what I call 3 arcs… which again, I would have to discuss in their own posts.

These characters are who I call my “Editors.” They are characters that have never faded, so to speak, like other characters do, and were created as I went through pivotal parts in my life. When I was younger I attributed them to helping write my stories and I’ll talk about that a little bit, but I’ve also formed this narrative around them as they have existed. So right here I’ll discuss their first arcs the most.

(I’d like to point out since it’s important to the overall narrative that their collective stories exist inside my own mind or creative space. As such, since fandom is an important part of my creative upbringing, all of my Editors save for one (kinda) have a tie to one specific fandom but can span across multiple. They aren’t self-inserts, but they are OCs that existed within a canon of one or another fandom piece that also directly connect to their own stories.)

So let’s start with Sarasona Nova. She is the “Original” Editor (she technically isn’t but that isn’t here nor there right now). As she stood in the place of my persona for many, many years she has earned her spot to be one of the heads of storytelling. I contribute mostly plotlines and ideas to her because more often than not, if it makes sense it comes from her. She is the level headed one out of any of the Editors. She starts out pretty sweet, before any of the other Editors come along, but then she has her first true experience with fandom and she becomes very negative and critical towards it. The only reason she offered any story ideas for fanfics back then was because all of my motivation was towards it. This evolves further in the story into full on obsession with controlling stories and characters and everything having to be exact and perfect.

At first this doesn’t cause problems, not even when the second Editor comes into the picture: Dream/Dimension Ruler, or DR as I refer to him (his name has always been fuzzy). When DR first came into existence his purpose was to create settings and scenes for Sara’s stories to play out in, as well as be this caretaker almost for the out-of-use characters. He and Sara work together on a lot of things and are both fairly excitable people when it comes to creating, but Sara is more focused on the current story while DR is looking at the potential in others. He is perfectly fine with his role until he wants to start creating and telling his own stories, which Sara shoots down. She writes the stories, she’s the leader, she tells him what to make. Over time, this really breaks DR down and he slowly becomes less eccentric and enthusiastic in his creations or his personality. He stops looking after characters not being used, and over time they do start to fade into nonexistence. A character that hasn’t been totally neglected notices DR’s vulnerable state and decides to use this to her advantage.

This is Manipulator, or Mani as I call her. Mani is a character that was created for a specific fanfic that actually eventually gave way to a larger original story and left her’s almost abandoned. She didn’t even have a name. At this point characters were supposed to figure themselves out, name and personality wise unless they were able to be fit into a story where things were figured out for them. Since Mani didn’t have a story anymore, she was kind of left on the wayside, no matter how often she bothered Sara for something, anything, to work with or do. Mani decided she wanted to be an Editor, maybe even the lead Editor. DR had been trying to help her and Mani decides to help him in return, by trying to take down Sara and everything she’s ever created. Through her namesake, she manages to become an Editor in direct rivalry to Sara. She became responsible for the conflict in stories, becoming the main antagonist of Sara’s story.

And her biggest contribution to this was through getting rid of the Editor Glitch. Glitch was this “broken” character that came into existence. Sara was confused by them, asking them their name, and didn’t get anything in return. Sara thought they were a mistake or something, since most characters usually have something to go off of to begin with but Glitch had nothing. After a while, it was revealed that Glitch was the Editor for characters and their creation. They were every character at once in every story while they themself were barely sentient. They both understood emotions and didn’t comprehend them at all, wanted to save the world while also wanting to end it, could kill without hesitation while also not being able to hurt a fly. This caused them to be almost robot-like, where they knew every single possible reaction to a given scenario and would choose the safest option by not reacting or reacting in what they would assume to be the most logical manner. Mani manages to trick them and trap them into a specific fandom that only had one main story that kept changing. They got caught up in this ever changing story and eventually became a character themselves in it, and them fully taking over a character for themselves became a part of the story.

That eventually leads into the second arc of their current stories. But amidst the third arc the last (current) Editor arrives in the form of Skylar Roch. Sky pretty much came out of nowhere in context of characters, and was practically shoved into the role of Lead Editor, much to Sara’s dismay and Mani’s amusement. Sky does their best to help the other Editors, including Sara, with all their issues but is filled with their own as they try to juggle this responsibility that they were thrust into without any knowledge of how to do it. Sara is resentful towards Sky and tries to point out that she should still be Lead Editor, meanwhile Mani, DR, and Glitch are all pointing out the awful stuff she did to them as Lead Editor.

Eventually, they do get a happy ending. At least… currently. Their stories continue on for as long as I live, so we’ll see, I suppose.

This is a lot longer than I meant for it to be and I have barely scratched the surface of these characters and this story. Maybe one day I’ll write it and post it, alongside the fanfics that go hand in hand with them. But for now, that day is not today.

4 - On your fandom.

(I love the Legend of Zelda. I really do. That’s why I always stay the fuck away from the tags and stay in my lane. I get really salty with the fandom and how honest to god hypocritical it is. I’m really sick of seeing fucking novellas on how one female character is better than the other (literally pick one and it’ll apply) and overlooking any interesting flaws they might have that actually make them relate-able. And even then I wouldn’t mind it so much if they didn’t constantly shit on Zelda herself under the same breath despite constantly proving herself as a capable title character. Why only Zelda? Why does she get the short end of the stick in all this? I’m not asking you to ship her with Link, but why do you all have to be so fucking hard on her? And even when she has flaws, that doesn’t make her problematic. It makes her human. Give all characters flaws and still make them interesting dammit. I could go on and on, but that’s a can of worms for another day. Not only that, but in all honesty all fandoms are shit like that. It’s just how it is and the Zelda fandom is no different. Maybe give me a specific example of bullshit and I can talk in detail about that)

(Also, bring me more old Gerudo ladies from Breath of the Wild. I’m dead serious. Bring me fan art and written drabble. Send me that shit via messenger. One pet peeve I have is nobody ever brings up these awesome girls. Have you read their dialogue? They’re hilarious! Not to mention badass. Stop leaving them out just because they aren’t conventionally attractive. And don’t act like that’s not the reason why nobody talks about them or draws them.)

(While we’re at it. Bring back Groose pls. I’ll suck yer dick Nintendo. No I won’t)

7 - On hate.

(I’ve personally gotten worse hate in the kitchen than all suicide baiting I’ve gotten on this blog combined. And I’ve had quite a bit at one point. I just didn’t bother posting it because my mama didn’t raise me to be no bitch. That and one of the anon’s name dropped, so I didn’t feel like it was a good idea to throw a third party in when chances are they didn’t do shit in the first place. I’ve got some kitchen stories that still keep me up at night, but that’s depression for another ask. Tbh you guys can’t even insult someone right.)

(As for how other people handle it, while I never find it tasteful to send anon hate period, it’s a bad idea to post publicly about how emotional you are over it. When you allow someone’s words and actions to influence you to that extent, it usually goes downhill from there. It’s cold advice, but trust me on this one. I know from experience. My motto is don’t dish anything you’re not able to take yourself and don’t stir the shit stew if you’re not willing to lick the spoon.)

8 - On positivity.

(Love it. Amazing. Incredible. Send that good shit everywhere you can. Send it to your friends, your loved ones, strangers, that kid across the street who rps on a Sonic OC twitter page. I don’t give a fuck. If you see something good, tell people. If someone does something nice for you, thank them and try to pay them back in a week. Encourage people to do their best when they’re struggling. Offer critique if they feel something is not up to par. Apologize when you’re wrong. Know that the other person is probably just as insecure as you are, so just be chill. Don’t just beg to be on the receiving end of positivity and don’t lie to people for attention either. Be proactive and honest. Good shit doesn’t come your way if you aren’t willing to contribute back somehow. I find it feels better to make other people happy than myself, but that’s just me.)

Same. Like so much same. If I were to put a date on the Javert's horrible terrible no good very bad day IF, it's literally gonna next June 7th (bc it would be the most ideal day to release it and it's gonna take that long because I'm literally learning how to code with this and I've never coded before in my life, and I think I'm looking at four ""win"" scenarios and two "loose" but it takes... long time to get there bc it's basically a full fic for each one and once it starts really branching there's not a lot of repetitive passages and that's just so much writing...)I'm having a lot of fun though it's a blast. My idiot ADHD officer OC managed to make himself a player in this. He's easiest to make him trust you he's got so much goddamn hero worship and once that's a thing you have you can use him to do stuff and collect information for you. You also have a shit ton of influence over him and can make him hardcore Law or hardcore Humility or hardcore somewhat neutral ending of hardcore Barricade. I love Dufour he's my gay ADHD son). Also there's stupid side quests I wanna include (such as shaving off your sideburns for the lolz which only effects like two things) and a thing at the convent where there's hints at nonbinary Javert. And also arresting Thenardier and just doing Thenardier stuff. And Christ there are so many variables and "if you have x then display [text]" and it's a lot of fun. I don't want too many repeating passages other than the main hubs so it'll read like an actual normal fic. Unfortunately that's basically like... 6 different fics for each end scenario but at least the beginnings are the same and a good portion of the passages can be shared between ending threads. When I post(/if this gets finished) I also wanna do a quick non-spoiler walkthrough of each ending and also how to do all the stupid side quests bc come on gotta have fun stuff. And also do other stuff such as purposely restarting the cycle via sleep or death in case you want to choose a different route instead because you always need a back button (and I'm gonna get rid of the default actual back buttons that Twine has because I'm unsure what that does to the qualities...).Also if anyone knows how to code a save game feature in Harlowe please hit me up this shit is probably long and you probably want to save. Really aiming for the least player frustration/annoyance as possible. If you look at the "loop and grow" pattern shown here (https://heterogenoustasks.wordpress.com/2015/01/26/standard-patterns-in-choice-based-games/ ) then that's basically what I'm trying to do from a game design example. There's technically grinding involved (repeatedly talking to or observing people) but you'll rarely get repeating text in that. Like you're literally learning something new until you hit max and then I might still have the option to do the thing but at max quality you'll just get the same stuff. Like seriously I don't want grindy-stuff I really, really want it to read like a normal fic. I'm gonna try to include a bunch of subtle hints of how to proceed so you don't get stuck in an endless timeloop and get as frustrated as Javert, although by design of making options disappear after you get certain qualities that may not end up being a problem in the first place. Like yeah you're gonna die a lot but that's timeloop fic for you. ...I am just very excited ok I fucking love CYOA stories (except I am absolute garbage as parser games) and you probably didn't need to read all of this but I Am So Damn Excited (...although I should be working on my Les Mis summer hols fic which requires me to reread parts of the brick and probably do research.....and learn how to write a character ive never written before and resembles no one I've written before)(If anyone has ideas for stupid side quests that don't actually contribute to the plot other than kind of worldbuilding please hit me up I only have two right now that aren't simply death to restart the cycle. Also looking for a decent map of 1832 Paris so I can get locations right. And if anyone knows Harlowe or even C (which Harlowe is based on) pls speak up so I can pester you with questions when i get stuck. And later I probably need an Amis characterization beta bc what are Amis anyway I stick with my old men all the time. If Javert kills enjolras would Grantaire actually kill him? What happens with Feuilly (spelling? what's that? Actually it might be jehan I can't remember) at the barricades and is it feasible for Javert to save him to gain the Amis's trust? These are the questions I have plus just general characterization goddamn)Ok really shutting up here

The amendment ― authored by Judiciary Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R-Va.) ― would have placed the independent congressional ethics office under the oversight of the House Ethics Committee, changed the OCE’s name and barred the office from releasing reports to the public. David Dayen: “OneWest Bank, which Donald Trump’s treasury secretary nominee Steven Mnuchin ran from 2009 to 2015, repeatedly broke California’s foreclosure laws during that period, according to a previously undisclosed 2013 memo from top prosecutors in the state attorney general’s office. The memo obtained by The Intercept alleges that OneWest rushed delinquent homeowners out of their homes by violating notice and waiting period statutes, illegally backdated key documents, and effectively gamed foreclosure auctions. Michael Calderone: “Fox News host Megyn Kelly is leaving the cable news network for NBC News, the network announced Tuesday. Kelly will take on multiple roles at NBC. THE GOP’S OBAMACARE CLOWN SHOW HAS BEGUN - Congress officially took the first procedural step Tuesday to unravel the health law, and Republicans still have no clue what the final step will be. Noam Levey: “Congressional Republicans, despite pledging to quickly repeal the Affordable Care Act, are struggling with what parts of the law to roll back and how to lock up the votes they will need, particularly in the Senate, to push their ambitious plans. Settling these questions may delay any major repeal vote for months. Just as importantly, a protracted debate could force President-elect Donald Trump and GOP lawmakers to preserve parts of the healthcare law they once swore to eliminate. TRUMP CAMP PROMISES PRESS CONFERENCE FOR THE UMPTEENTH TIME - He totally won’t back out again, you guys. Callum Borchers: “Donald Trump senior adviser Kellyanne Conway told CNN on Monday that the president-elect will probably hold a news conference Jan. 11. ‘I know that’s the current plan,’ Conway said, sounding less than certain. Let’s not forget that a September event originally billed as a news conference turned out to be an infomercial for Trump’s new D.C. hotel — capped by a brief concession that President Obama was, in fact, born in the United States. And last month’s long-planned news conference was scrapped just days beforehand. So plans can change. CONGRESS LOVES JESUS MORE THAN AMERICA DOES - Science says so. Eliza Collins: “Lawmakers in Congress are overwhelmingly Christian, more even than the America they represent. Nine out of 10 members the new House and Senate (91%) sworn in Tuesday describe themselves as members of the Christian faith, according to a survey released by Pew Research Center Tuesday. The number of Christians in Congress is higher than the number of Americans who identify as Christian. That number has been declining in recent decades. Between the early 1970s and 90s the number hovered around 90% but by early 2000 it had dropped to around 80%. According to a spokeswoman from Pew, that number continues to decrease.” [USA Today]
