late night talking with @westwingsolo and we've decided that :

having their friends and family over is something both henry and alex love

there is usually light teasing and joking amongst the group

while henry expects the teasing and takes it well, there are times when it gets to be a bit much

henry will go quiet over time when the teasing becomes a little too much for him

most of the time, he'll lean more and more into alex when this happens, usually pressing against his side and using that as a source of grounding for him

alex will notice and that's when the night winds down and the others will go on their way

after they're alone again, there are cuddles on the couch ( david lays across their legs/feet ) and s.tar w.ars playing in the background

every year, without fail - alex and henry recreate their first kiss on new years. for as long as they can, it's under the exact tree where the original kiss takes place.

as much as he loves his family, henry eventually decides that it's better for him ( and his mental health ) to not return for the holidays. he misses his mother and bea ( and yes even philip and martha and their eventual children ) - but he prefers to stay in the states and spend the holidays with alex ( or whomever he's with in AUs ).

if henry is the one to propose first, he does so with his dad's ring. catherine kept the ring, knowing that arthur would have wanted henry to have it.

henry doesn't want to be in the spotlight.

when he finally abdicates and gives up his title, he wants nothing more than to live a normal life. yes, he wants to write his book and he knows that will come with some level of spotlight in itself but he doesn't want anything further than that.

he wants to live his life. he wants a home with alex ( and david, of course ) - they move to texas eventually and henry continues working with the shelters. he supports alex is whatever decisions he makes but he stays out of the public eye as much as possible.

one of henry's christmas gifts from catherine is his father's wedding ring. she pulls him aside while everyone else is busy and gives it to him, saying that she knows arthur would have wanted henry to have it and would have wanted him to give it to someone that he loves and wants to spend the rest of his life with. she knows that he's found that with alex.

naturally there are tears and henry won't admit to it, but he's been planning to propose for a while - the ring is just the sign he needed to know it was time.

david is the goodest of good boys … until it comes to taking any kind of medication. he’ll spit it out, run away from whomever is trying to give it to him, or just bury it in one of his numerous beds.

alex and henry have an unofficial score of who is the most successful in getting him to take something. alex is winning cause he bribes david with treats - henry is appalled.

so henry tries to cook. he reads recipes and watches videos and does everything he can think of to get better at it but it's not something that he takes to easily. he can cook well enough that he wouldn't starve without alex around ( or any other significant other ) - but it's just not his area of expertise.

but he can bake. surprisingly it's something that he enjoys and picks up over time. ( he might also be a bit of a stress baker )

alex is a horrible patient when sick. he doesn't know when to stop and rest, there's too much to do - it takes someone physically stopping him and making him rest.

henry is pretty bad too but he's more likely to hide that he doesn't feel well. at least until it becomes too obvious.

henry absolutely tries to help out during thanksgiving when it comes to cooking. it doesn't take long for him to be banned from the kitchen by alex.

he and nora end up drinking wine in the living room while june and alex argue over the correct way to do whatever they're doing in the kitchen.

henry loves to decorate for the holidays. once the brownstone is bought? once he comes to accept that he's allowed to do whatever he wants with his space? henry might go a bit over the top with the decorations but they're his choices - and yes, david gets holiday sweaters and lots of them.

henry being happy when he's finally able to abdicate and step away from the spotlight that comes with being a royal. henry being even happier when he and alex eventually settle down in texas.

since it's national dog day ... you should all know that henry absolutely spoils david ( not that he doesn't any other day ). when he and alex move into the brownstone together, it becomes a joint effort and david absolutely soaks up all the love and attention.
