@bloodxhound is becoming as unhinged as his boss, continued from here.
"... you're delirious. go home." humoring the thought of enigmatic creatures certainly only had entertaining value so long as one did not end up in the crossfire. he eyes the man with a mixture of disdain and dim bewilderment. it's a bold enough move to enter his office for such a trivial reason—let alone accuse him so insidiously. ... of being a yeti, out of all things. Chapter 27: The Search Begins
It was like a bizarre book club meeting, except there was no book and the meeting was held at Tink’s forest of a living room.
He had found Pan’s broken cellphone nearly three days ago, and hadn’t seen hide or hair of him since.
He was worried, especially as he saw less and less of Wendy roaming the town looking for him.
No, he wasn’t stalking her that would be creepy. He was just watching her from afar, usually behind buildings, in case Pan reappeared by her side.
He was worried about the little shit, even if he’d rather not think about him and what they were—or rather what they had been.
Their relationship was on Pan’s terms, as it had been the night August returned to Storybrooke two years ago.
It had been just a glitch on their timeline, a moment in history that would go unrecorded.
He had returned to Storybrooke after the money he pawned from several of his father’s tools ran out.
He was tired and sore, not sure whether he was back to ask for forgiveness or to take more from his loving father. His motorcycle was nearly out of gas, his tires shreds of rubber attached to rims.
He hadn’t realized the clusterfuck he’d road in on. That Storybrooke was practically on lockdown after Jekyll killed those two girls—and nearly a third, he’d find out later.
And—for his own sanity—Pan was waiting at the town line for the psychopath to return, with the blunt end of his camera at that.
As his head was spinning from being clabbered over the head from the hit, Pan had kicked him onto his back.
“Shit,” he had said. “You’re not him.”
“Lucky for me,” August deadpanned, wobbling as he picked himself up. “Want to explain why the hell you did that?”
“Monster hunting,” Pan had stated, staring at him suspiciously, offering him no assistance.
It was close to 3 a.m., a completely unreasonable hour for anyone to be running around—travelers or off-their-knocker journalists.
“Yeah,” August muttered, grabbing his bike and preparing to head into the town.
“Everything’s closed,” Pan said. “You’re better off sleeping in the woods.”
It was none of the little shit’s business. In fact it was probably best if he kept his entire being to himself. For he knew his father had taken out a report to the police.
“I’ll be fine,” he said. “Thanks for not giving me a concussion.”
“You might as well come back with me.”
The weight of those words still clung to August’s brain this very day.
That brutal, flirtatious, broken boy…
“What’s this about?
August looked up. Tink, Felix and Lily Tigress were surrounding him, trying to figure as much as he was what the hell was going on.
August stood, feeling the mix of emotions from the people in the room.
“Pan’s missing.” He said, simply.
The reactions that followed fit everyone perfectly.
Tinkerbell scoffed and rolled her eyes while Felix seemed to melt with fear. Tigress snorted.
“Have you checked all the holes in the city?” she teased.
“And ditches,” he replied humorlessly. “He’s not anywhere.”
“Maybe check in the depths of hell.” Tink muttered, flopping down on her couch.
“What happened,” Felix inquired, obviously the only other person in the room that had general concern.
“I have no idea,” August sighed.
“It’s probably nothing!” Tink exclaimed, visibly aggravated. “He’s always pulling shit like this, we all know it!” she looked around at everyone, their eyes dropping .
“I don’t know this time—” August began before Tink cut him off.
“He’s fine! He’s off screwing someone or ruining a life. He’ll come back and continue as normal.”
August blinked hard and reached into his pocket. In a flash he threw Pan’s broken, dead cellphone onto Tink’s coffee table, an inch away from Tigress’s boots.
The occupants of the room stared at the device like it was something that had just fallen from the sky, as if they had no idea what to make of it.
“I found this the other night at the docks,” August explained, swallowing a lump. “I’ve been looking for him ever since. It died a few hours after I found it.”
Felix gripped his kneecaps until his fingers turned white. Tigress glanced at him and then at Tink’s still shoulders, wishing she could reach into her back and unknot every single one of her muscles.
“It could be an accident,” Tink said, her mind numb.
“There’s something wrong here, Tink,” August said. “Something I don’t think we’ve dealt with before.”
Tink nodded slightly. She could accept that this was a bit odd, but she wasn’t ready to relent to a search just yet.
“Did you go through the phone, see who he called last?” Felix inquired.
A cold sweat ran down August’s back.
“Yeah…it…it was me,” he looked straight ahead, trying to avoid Tink’s direct gaze. “The night he wrote that story about you.”
Tink barely moved, the only indication that she heard August was the darkening of her pupils.
“Last time I saw him was the morning after that when Wendy showed up and…all the other stuff happened.”
“Have you talked to her?” Tigress asked. “Why isn’t she here?”
August thought about the blonde enigma who spent the better part of two days searching for the wild boy…
And then she stopped…
Not from falling into a fate like Pan’s, but rather a strange dark haired man seemed to be gypsying her away from her task.
Maybe she had the same mindset as Tink, that Pan was somewhere safe and sound but avoiding the rest of the world.
Or perhaps she’d finally realized she deserved to use her time the way she wanted and not focus so much on Pan.
When he’d see her in town, her gaze would occasionally stray to the streets and into shops, looking for him without trying.
But she wasn’t alone. There was someone else with her, some dark entity that always seemed to be just out of both their line of site.
“She’s looking for him,” August concluded.
“Have you gone to Graham?”
“No, not yet,” he admitted.
Tink smiled bitterly. “There’s your answer,”
August leaned forward. “Do you really think Graham is going to take this seriously with Pan’s track record?”
“That’s the best thing to do!” Tink yelled. “He’s not our problem.”
“Yeah, he is,”
“No he’s fucking not! We have nothing to do with any of this!”
“Yeah we do!”
“He’s your little fuck buddy not mine!”
A wave of sand coursed through August’s throat, cutting him off.
“Okay, that’s enough!” Felix finally jumped in, evenly meeting Tink’s glare. “He’s right, we have to help.”
“Are you kidding me, Felix!” Tink exploded.
“What he did was terrible,” Felix injected, putting everything everyone in the room had held in for days now. “But if you turn your back on him and something really is wrong, you’ll regret it for the rest of your life. Because he is family, Tink. He’s one of us.”
He stepped forward, keeping his distance after taking her stiff posture into account.
“And you know he didn’t do any of this to hurt you, even if he did,”
Tink scoffed. “I know that. But I’m so sick of him thinking rules don’t apply to him and that he’s invincible,” she paced a bit, thinking about the wild-haired boy to always brought so much chaos into their lives. Who was more trouble than any of them knew what to do with.
“What if he’d been alone that night?” She wondered aloud, knowing firsthand the type of cruelty Mother Superior could enact when pushed too far.
Pan was in trouble, and this time it was more serious than ever of them had ever seen before.
He was usually good at getting himself out of messes and suffering the consequences on his own. But things were different this time. This time he was somewhere none of them could find.
Tink groaned, tucking her anger away for later.
“When was the last day you talked to Wendy?” she sighed in August’s direction.
His lip twitched in gratification. “The day she told me Pan was missing.”
“Then Lily and I will check with her first.” Tink said, voice strong with leadership. “You and Felix check the paper and Graham and all his usual haunts.”
Before Felix could ask for more, Tink was out the door.
Lily gave the men a shrug before following her friend, not looking to cause a fight with the fiery blonde.
Felix sighed in relief when they finally left, trying his best to stay calm. Last thing he needed was to fall into a seizure.
“That takes care of that,” August teased. “You ready?”
Felix looked over at him, frowning heavily. He had no feeling for August, good or bad. The two didn’t see or speak to each other than the few times he left Pan’s place.
He wasn’t a bad person from what Felix could gather, but he wasn’t the best influence on Pan. He was too casual, not interested in settling down.
Adding gasoline to the fire of Pan’s soul.
Still, obviously he cared about him enough that he cared if he was missing or not, so some points were warranted.
“We’ll need to start with Graham first,”
“Why’s that?”
Felix frowned. “I might know the reason he’s missing.”
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
Pan wasn’t sure where to target his latest wave of sickness from.
The swaying ship, the dehydration, or the infection building around his numb wrists from the metal cuffs?
He was more than certain he was developing some kind of bladder infection as well.
God he was tired.
Jones hadn’t been to see him in a day and a half, or at least that’s what he was estimating judging by the light that was coming in thorough the cracks of the ship.
He wondered what he was doing, especially to Wendy. Had he hurt her? Was he torturing her right now to get information out of her?
What did this asshole hope to accomplish keeping him locked up? Why didn’t he just off him already?
Or maybe this was it. Maybe he just wanted to kill him slowly.
As he nodded in and out of consciousness, he caught images of the people in his life. Wendy and Felix up front, Tink, August, and Tigress just behind them. Even Glass and Gold, and deeper in the shadows, Belle.
Each time he woke up, they would vanish, and Pan wouldn’t remember who he was dreaming about.
The smell of salt was enough to make him vomit now. He was dying, and he was doing so cruelly slow.
Would any of the people he kept seeing in that place between sleep and awake ever know what had happened to him.
Was anyone looking for him?
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
The last few days had become sort of a new routine for Wendy. She’d leave her apartment at the crack of dawn and visit Pan’s apartment…knocking just in case he’d come home.
But he hadn’t, and she’d let herself in and feed his fuzzy orange cat who had yet to be utterly concern about his master’s disappearance.
It was comforting feeding the large cat without Pan’s interference, she thought. No one to pick fun at her at every opportunity. No one to push her into a corner, away from her safest places.
No one to pick fun at her at every opportunity. No one to push her into a corner, away from her safest places.
It was unsettling, Pan’s absence. But there was an odd peace in the air. One that didn’t quite fit in Storybrooke’s atmosphere, but one that was welcome. If only for a short time.
Each day without the wild boy was like a blurry vacation: you knew each day was passing by but the details were unclear.
And somehow Pan was blurring from her memory as well.
She’d wake up in the dead of night with a glimpse of him in the air above her head.
Then he’d disappear, and she’d fall asleep without concern.
It felt wrong, to brush him off after all they’d been through, even in her sleep.
But there was an odd freedom to letting him go, especially if he didn’t want to be found.
She stared at the number on her cell phone glaring back at her, the one she’d called constantly in the last four days.
He doesn’t want to be found, she reminded herself. Calling him again would be fruitless.
She knew this, it was imbedded in her brain at this point.
Yet she pressed his number again and listened as his voice mail immediately came up.
It’s Pan. Call me back.
No, she decided solemnly, she wouldn’t.
“Hi, Pan…it’s…it’s me again.” Wendy chuckled. “I guess you know that by now…”
She paused, knowing if she were quiet for too long she’d have to start over.
She didn’t want to start over. She wanted to go forward.
“Look,” she sighed. “I can’t keep doing this with you. Everyday it’s a fight with you and I have no idea why. I don’t know what I did the other day to make you leave like that…but you need…”
She paused again.
“Well I don’t know what you need o honestly, but it’s something you have to figure out for yourself.”
She considered hanging up then, but she didn’t want to leave him on such a harsh note.
“I really hope you try, Pan, because I don’t want to fight with you anymore. After everything, I really want us to be—“
The voicemail beeped, inquiring if she wanted to start over or if she was satisfied with her message.
She didn’t want to start over.
So she hung up and headed to the docks.
Killian was there, as he always seemed to be.
Perhaps it was her need for new freedom that silenced the warning bells in her head, that made her drop the walls and inhibitions that had clung to her like a second skin during the last several months.
She approached him without fear, without any type of concern holding her back.
And she didn’t question him when he slid a manila folder into his leather coat.
“Is dinner still on the table?” she questioned.
He tilted his head, amused, though his pulse was racing. “I thought lunch was the next step.”
Wendy shrugged, stepping a bit closer. “I’m feeling…braver than I did yesterday.”
He chuckled, concealing the folder further into his jacket for dear life. “Well then, Miss Wendy Darling, tomorrow night?”
She smiled, relieved. “I’d like that.”
He watched her leave, noting the little pep in her step.
Such a lovely girl, he thought, and more malleable than he had originally foreseen. Jones thought he was going to have to push her more to fall into his grip, but it would seem she was finally crumbling.
He made his way back to this ship quickly, opening the folder full of information for his backup plan.
He stepped into his cabin, breaking out his best rum. This was a small victory after all.
Some of the glasses on his counter shook lightly, so little they could almost be missed. Jones rolled his eyes. He’d forgotten to feed his captive again…and water him for that matter.
Whoops.
He still hadn’t told him why he’d requested those files, what he was digging for.
Who he was searching for.
And how Miss Darling was involved was still being revealed, but time was running short.
He had been given orders to find out now.
He spread his new leverage across the table, frowning a bit.
The two boys, preteens by the look of it, caught his eye first. He hated targeting kids. It was so pointless.
His eyes traveled to the woman next. He could see bits of Wendy in her, especially in the shape of her eyes. She had the man’s jaw however…and his frown, he noticed with amusement.
A tidy little family in danger of meeting the blunt end of his gun.
Hopefully it wouldn’t come to that, he decided as he hid the folder. Hopefully, very soon, Wendy would tell him what he wanted to know.
The pipes sang from Pan’s struggle again.
He was already a dead man walking, and too tight-lipped to save now.
Feeding time.

828. part 2
This was prompted by @thetruefor3stspirit! Enjoy!
Fandom: Detroit become human | Ship: Reed900
[part1]
That comment had been a weird one to hear from the human and Nines spent the remaining car ride to the precinct thinking about it. They hadn’t been working together for long, but long enough for Nines to confirm what others had told him about the man: He was rude, impolite, swore more than was good for him and still thought of androids as machines, as objects. He could play along well enough, but Nines still was met by derogatory terms and jokes about his kind. Gavin hated Connor to the bone, couldn’t care less about androids and Nines knew he was sorted in somewhere in between those two.
For this assessment the human’s words had been strangely out of character. Maybe he had misunderstood something? Maybe it was one of Gavin’s frequent self-hating jokes, telling him that no one would take him as someone as bad as himself. Yeah, that had to be it. Anything else was impossible.
They worked relentlessly on their case, Gavin checking the evidence at hand while Nines accessed public CCTV and how many TR models were currently active in Detroit. Unfortunately, none of them got any results from their research. The evidence they had wasn’t enough to find any trace of the murderer, even after a thorough autopsy of the android victim. The footage was conveniently deleted, looped or obstructed and there were far too many TRs to just go around asking for a spare, ripped out Thirium pump. If anything, that told them the TR in question wasn’t working alone as they had neither the ability nor the computing power to hack the cameras that fast and effectively. Except for if their suspect was a RK900, of course. Then all that would be possible with just one unit. Nines really wished it wasn’t the case.
‘Hey, Gavin, Nines? You’ve got a new crime-scene to look at. I would hurry, it’s still fresh.’ Gavin was immediately up and picked up his jacket from the chair. Nines followed shortly. It had been two days since the last one and everyone knew they had enough open cases already. That could only mean… ‘What’s it, Chris? Any details?’ ‘Ripped out Thirium pump.’ ‘You are shitting me’, Gavin uttered. ‘Nope. Same shit as last time.’ ‘Phck.’
‘Phck, please don’t let this be some serial killer, please!’ Nines was processing the information the DPD had already gathered, ignoring the emotional outburst from his partner. ‘Victim is another android. It looks… awfully much like our last victim. It is very much possible that they were murdered by the same person.’ ‘Shit. Detroit really doesn’t need this kind of bullshit.’ ‘Don’t worry, Detective. At least they only target androids.’ Gavin clenched his teeth. Nines had quickly lost his uncertainty around him that had clung to him the first days of them working together. Apparently, the machine had concluded his assessment of him in keeping his distance. And what was that last comment for? Phcking androids. ‘Yeah, at least they only target androids’, he hissed at the droid. What had he thought? Nines was just a prick like any other.
They arrived at the scene and as Gavin entered the kitchen of the house, he near gagged from the chemical stench. It hurt in his nose like spilled washing agent. Only then he could squint at the body. And holy shit, that was a lot of blood. The blue liquid gathered in a pool underneath the android. It was still visible though and that let his brain run at top speed. ‘This happened less than two hours ago, right? As the thirium is still liquid?’ ‘That’s right, Detective.’ ‘And the hole in his chest is the same size again?’ ‘Correct.’ ‘How long would you need to erase all camera footage?’ ‘Detective, I am not-‘ ‘How long?’ ‘If I wanted to be as thoroughly as our suspect, it really just depends on the amount of cameras.’ ‘Well, look out of the window, I immediately counted at least five in those shops.’ ‘I see thirteen.’ ‘Ugh, smartass. How long then?’ ‘More than two hours. But we would need a warrant and it could still be a TR-‘ ‘Phck warrants, if this is a serial killer, do you want to wait until the next android dies?’ ‘What is it to you, Detective.’ ‘Phcking… Would you just hack the shit? Come on, we can argue about it later and we don’t have to tell anyone. We’ll get that footage eventually anyways.’
Nines scowled at the man, who was already kneeling in front of the victim, putting on gloves to lift the android’s clothing. Then he started to find a way to access the footage. ‘No.’ ‘What is it?’ ‘The murderer is a RK900.’ ‘Shit. Where is he now? I will call in backup.’ ‘And what will you tell them how we found it out?’ ‘I’ll bullshit something for them, okay toaster? Just find him, quick!’
-
They had found the RK900 by hacking several surveillance cameras on their way and had to fight the android in the end to subdue him. Both had the bruises to proof just how strong a RK900 unit was and Gavin swore to never anger his partner the way he had had his fun with Connor. They interrogated the machine and tried to find out where the rest of them were hiding but were met by it stating his missions and how they were not authorised to be told the information they searched. The RK900 was stubborn in his programming and created enough problems for the police that two permanent android guards were positioned in front of his cell. Or the cell next to his first one he had smashed the reinforced glass of. The machine tried everything to get out of there, displaying his brute force and disregard of his own health. He had severed his own hand to cause an electric surge on the lock of the door and had always doubled his efforts when he sensed an android outside. He babbled on about deviancy being a plague, a malfunction and that all free androids had to be eliminated.
‘It’s a fucking Terminator’, people commented. ‘How could someone build something like that?’ ‘God, this is scary.’ No one seemed to notice how everyone subconsciously kept their distance to Nines after the day the android had freed himself a second time and not only broke the glass, but also an arm and a leg of the guards before Connor could send the android into forced stasis. No one noticed how the heart rates of everyone not over two metres away of Nines spiked. No one noticed how Nines tried to make himself smaller, to not move too much in the precinct and kept seated in front of his terminal, even during break time.
‘Hey, lighten up a little.’ Nines flinched at the sudden contact of a hand on his shoulder. Who still dared to- ‘You’ve been red all day, tin-can.’ Of course. ‘Don’t you have work to do?’, Nines grumbled, scowl deepening as the human sat himself on his desk awfully close. Yeah, we got it. You are not scared. You have a death wish anyway, thinking androids are below you. ‘I actually have, yes. But it’s time for a break and your disco-light is damn distracting.’ ‘You never take your break, Detective.’ ‘Yeah, but you do. So why is your metal ass still here and not over there with drunkard and poodle?’ ‘None of your business.’ ‘Fine. But you know, keeping your distance to them won’t solve your problem.’ ‘What problem?’, Nines asked, his question more a threat than anything. A threat the human ignored as always: ‘They are scared of you because you are the same damn model than the idiot in our holding cell. You know, it’s funny, you predicted that scenario last week and somehow missed the whole thing playing out in front of you.’
‘I saw it, Detective’, the android snarled. ‘Don’t you think I would be the first to notice?’ ‘Well, you are not doing anything about it, so… no?’ ‘What is your problem? Just lean back and enjoy the show. You might lose an android on the force over this. Thought that would be a win for you?’ ‘I think you are overexaggerating.’ ‘What? You being happy when I’m gone? I don’t think so.’ Gavin sighed and slipped from the table. ‘You are a real pain in the ass, you know? Continue like this and I really would be.’
He yawned and walked over to Connor’s desk and Nines thought that would be the end of it. Until he was surprised by two folders repeatedly being smacked together. Nines looked over to the detective, who kept on doing this with two of Connor’s open case files while marching down the bullpen. Then he let them sink to his respective sides and yelled: ‘Attention, dipshits! The android in the holding cell is the killing machine here. I thought the DPD would only hire people who had the braincells to show for it, but apparently you all cheated your end exam or something. My partner isn’t the phcking serial killer and you assholes better don’t treat him like one. I need a fully operational partner and I won’t let you all pull him down, understood?’ Gavin had all the attention of a shocked crowd screaming through the precinct loud enough the people in the lobby had to hear it and the human nodded into the silence. ‘Good.’ He had arrived at the entrance and casually threw both folders into a – thankfully empty – trashcan. The man added a ‘Phcking Kindergarten’ to his speech and exited the precinct.
Nines had been left to the attention of his co-workers after Gavin had went outside and couldn’t help but blush and turn around to his terminal. What the hell had the human thought doing this? An hour later Gavin came back, holding a coffee from a local coffeeshop. He strode through the precinct as if it was a day like any other and sat down at his table across from Nines, ignoring the whispered talks of everyone else. The android however heard them loud and clear. ‘What the hell happened to Reed?’ ‘I know right? He hates attention!’ ‘Yeah, more importantly he hates androids. Didn’t you hear what he did before the revolution?’ ‘No. What?’ ‘I heard he was one of those guys abusing thrown out androids.’ ‘Holy shit. They let someone like that work at the police?’ ‘I know, right?’
Nines shook his head trying to concentrate on the screen in front of him again.
‘I bet he did it because Nines is convenient for him. Just some android he can command around.’
‘Poor Nines, stuck with such an asshole.’
‘Must be the worst. I wouldn’t last a day partnered up to Reed.’
Nines looked over to the man silently sipping his coffee, completely focussed on the photos of the crime-scene laying before him. He really seemed as if his head was in a different world, being able to ignore all of this. He had to hear it. How could he filter it out that well? As Gavin looked up to type up the report for this case, Nines interrupted: ‘Why?’ ‘Hmm?’ The man put down his coffee and looked at him innocently as if he hadn’t just guilt-shamed all of the precinct to be nice to him. ‘Why did you do that?’ ‘What? Bought me a coffee? I had my break and well, I couldn’t exactly stay after-‘ ‘You know exactly what I mean, don’t evade it!’ ‘Why did I defend my partner, you mean? Didn’t think I had to explain that. I’m keeping my promise, tin-can. Even if not, partners are supposed to have each other’s back.’ ‘What promise?’ ‘Last week? In the car? Don’t tell me you forgot that already!’ ‘You meant that?’ ‘Did I mean tha- Of course I meant that! Why else would I say it? Did you think I was joking?’ ‘At least I didn’t think you were being serious. You hate androids.’ Gavin leaned back in his chair and sighed. ‘Listen, Nines. I don’t hate androids, okay? I used to demolish thrown out machines. I could as well had been vandalising bus-stops or graffiti dicks on walls. I can’t care less about androids, that’s right. I couldn’t care less for humans either. But I care about the persons around me and what is right and what is wrong. Why else should I choose to work at the police? It definitely isn’t the nice work atmosphere and the great retirement policy.’
Nines just stared at the man, who quickly evaded his eyes. That was the most honest the human had been to him so far. Or had Nines just never noticed it? He thought back to their talk in the car. Had he really meant every word he had said? In the lights of his recent actions he might have. And Nines realised the chances weren’t too bad that he had let himself become a victim of prejudice. Everyone had told him the detective was an asshole, someone who hated androids and would rather see one in a ditch than save one on the job. He had been wrong to believe them. Gavin was a good partner, caring and compassionate about his job.
‘Thank you’, Nines said in all honesty, thinking back to what he had thrown at the human back in the car.
I don’t want to be pegged as someone like you.
‘Hmm?’ The human looked up at him again and Nines couldn’t shake the feeling Gavin had already been back at thinking about their case, not even bothering what Nines’ evaluation of him was once he made clear how he thought about the android.
‘I think I would be honoured to be put in a box with people like you.’

20. Into The Deep, Pt.2
Storybrooke. Present day. Granny's Diner. (Granny brings hamburgers to Mr. Gold and Belle's table.) Belle: “They smell delicious, Granny.” Granny: “They are delicious. Didn't take any dark magic, either. (To Mr. Gold:) Oh, and I charge extra for the pickles.” (She walks away.) Mr. Gold: “Mmm-hmm. (Making a gesture towards Granny:) I have a complicated relationship with her. As I do with most people.” (They share a laugh.) Belle: “Well, it uh, it did take me a little time to get to know you. They will.” Mr. Gold: “You know, you should try it with ketchup. Condiments are this world's most powerful magic.” Regina: (Entering the diner:) “Gold. We need to talk.” Mr. Gold: “Do we?” (Everyone in the diner tenses as the possible confrontation.) Granny: “Folks, I think I may need to close early. Everybody out.” Regina: “No, it's okay. We're civil.” Mr. Gold: “Yeah, for now. (To Belle:) Belle, you remember the woman who locked you up for 28 years?” Belle: “Well, I should probably...” Mr. Gold: (Interrupting:) “No, no. Please stay where you are. Whatever she has to say won't be a secret from you. Whatever she wants... she won't get.” Regina: “I'm actually coming about the one thing that might unite us.” Mr. Gold: “And what on Earth can that be?” Regina: “Cora. She's coming from our land. I need your help to stop her.” Mr. Gold: “She was dead. You told me you saw the body.” Regina: “Apparently you taught her well. She's not, she's on her way and I don't think I need to remind you how most unpleasant that would be for both of us.” Mr. Gold: “For you. I can handle Cora.” Regina: “That's not how she tells the story.” Mr. Gold: “I won in the end.” Regina: “Maybe. But there's a big difference this time. This time you have someone you care about. This time you have a weakness.” Belle: “I'm sorry. Who is this woman?” Mr. Gold: “Someone you will never meet. (To Regina:) So you say she's coming. Where is she now?” Regina: “With them.”
The Enchanted Forest. Present day. (Emma, Aurora, Mulan, Mary Margaret traveling through the Enchanted Forest.) Emma: “How close are we? Henry could already be waiting in that Netherworld.” Aurora: “No, we planned to meet back there in two hours.” Mary Margaret: (Reassuringly:) “We're not going to leave him waiting.” Emma: “Yeah, but what if he's...” Aurora: “He was fine.” Mary Margaret: “There. That looks like relatively safe high ground. We'll set up our camp there. Aurora, you'll settle in and find Henry, get the information we need from Rumplestiltskin. We do this fast, in and out. It's still dangerous out here.” (Aurora gets caught on a branch, revealing burns.) Mulan: “Is something wrong?” Aurora: “No, I just caught on something.” Mulan: “That does not explain your arm.” Aurora: (Covers herself:) “What about my arm?” Mulan: “The burns you're hiding. They're not from the sun.” Aurora: (Looking down, shrugs:) “I brushed against some poisoned leaves.” (Moves forward.) Mulan: (Holding Aurora back:) “You said that this Netherworld was full of smoke and flames. Aurora, if that's where you were burned, you should not return.” Aurora: “I don't have much of a choice, do I?” Mulan: “You're choosing to go in deeper and stay under longer to find this boy. I vowed to Prince Phillip to protect you. Not to help some strangers find a portal to another land.” Aurora: “Mulan, I was cursed to spend eternity in that horrible sleep. And the only reason I'm here is because you and Phillip risked your lives to save me. Every day since my waking has been a gift. So let me do something with it. It's my turn to help someone else. I'm going to go back in and find that boy.” Storybrooke. Present day. Mr. Gold's shop. (Henry's in bed.) Regina: “I brought your blanket. From your bedroom back home.” Henry: “Thanks. So, Cora..she's pretty powerful...” Gold: “Yes, but not as powerful as I am.” Regina: “Debatable.” Gold: “Actually — no, it's not.” David: (Takes a seat beside Henry:) “You're sure you're okay to do this, kid?” Henry: “I was born to do this. I'm done reading about heroes. I wanna be one.” David: “Sometimes being one is knowing when not to run into the fire.” Henry: “I'll be okay.” Mr. Gold: “Look, whatever he faces in there, it'll be far less dangerous than what he'll face if we fail.” Henry: “I can do this.” David: (Sighs and stands up, to Gold:) “Get on with it. Fast.”
Mr. Gold: (Walking over, sitting down next to Henry's bed:) “All right Henry, just relax and soon you're gonna drift off.” Henry: “What do I tell them?” Mr. Gold: “Just listen to my bedtime story and all will be clear. (Resting a hand on Henry's forehead:) Once upon a time, Snow White and Prince Charming needed to stun a very powerful magician long enough to lock him up in a dark dungeon.” Henry: “That was you. They used Cinderella to trap you with a magic quill.” Mr. Gold: “Yes, indeed. (Making a gesture, stroking over Henry's face, probably putting him to sleep by using magic. Henry closes his eyes:) The quill. And yet, it wasn't the quill itself but the ink that captured the Dark One. (Regina and David exchange a look:) Harvested from the rarest species of squid from the bottom of a bottomless ocean - impossible to find, unless you're a mermaid. Or me. I happen to have a private supply. (Stroking Henry again from his chest up to his face:) In my jail cell - that is where they will find it.” The Enchanted Forest. Present day. (Aurora is sleeping, Mulan watching over her. Emma and Mary Margaret are standing a little behind watching her, too. Emma walks away, anxious. Mary Margaret follows.) Mary Margaret: “Hey... (Taking Emma’s hand:) It'll be okay. You'll see Henry again. This will work.” (Distant sound of a twig breaking.) Emma: “What was that?” (Looking back at Mulan who stands guard over Aurora.)
Netherworld. Present day. (Fiery room for those awoken from the Sleeping Curse. Fierce flames burning.) Aurora: (Shouting:) “Henry? Henry! Can you help us?” Henry: “Yes, I know what you have to do to stop Cora. You have to go to Rumplestiltskin's cell.” Aurora: “Where? We have to go where? (Henry turning away:) Wait, where do we have to go?” Henry: “Rumplestiltskin...” Aurora: “Henry! Henry, I -” Mulan: (Distant voice:) “Aurora! Aurora!” Aurora: “Who is that?” Henry: “Did you hear me?” Aurora: “No. Henry, say it again. I-” Mulan: (Distant voice:) “Aurora!” Aurora: “Did you hear that?” Henry: “No, what? Aurora, what's going on?” Mulan: (Distant voice:) “Aurora!” Aurora: “Did you hear that?” (Disappears in a purple whirl.) The Enchanted Forest. Present day. (Mulan shakes Aurora awake.) Mulan: “Aurora! Wake up! Aurora, wake up! Wake up!” Aurora: “Henry wasn't finished!” Mulan: “The time for that is over.” (Zombies attack the group. Snow, Emma & Mulan fight.) Mary Margaret: “Emma, watch out.” (Emma is tackled to the ground, the compass falls to the floor.) Emma: “The compass. The COMPASS!” (Mary Margaret shoots a Zombie who then drops the compass.) Emma: “Any idea on how to kill these things?” Mary Margaret: “None! (They continue fighting, looks around:) Mulan! Mulan!” Emma: “Where is she?” Mary Margaret: (As the zombies keep coming:) “Emma, we’ve gotta run!” Another part of the forest. Mulan: (To Aurora:) “Hurry, hurry. Go. (Fighting a Zombie, takes her eyes off Aurora:) AURORA!” Emma: “You still in one piece?” Mary Margaret: “Yeah, pretty much.” Mulan: (Approaching Emma and Mary Margaret:) “They took her. Aurora's gone!” Storybrooke. Present day. Mr. Gold's shop. (Henry awakens.) David: “Henry. Everything all right?” Mr. Gold: “Did you see her? Did you tell her?” Henry: “No, I didn't get the chance. Something... something happened. She got sucked outta there. (Trying to get up, expressing pain:) Argh...” Regina: “Henry?” Henry: “Something's--Something's wrong.” Regina: (Revealing burns on Henry's arm, gasps:) “Henry!”
The Enchanted Forest. Past. The Dark Palace. (Regina waves her hand over the Hook.) Evil Queen: (Hands it back:) “It's now… enchanted. It will enable you to rip out her heart. I believe you've seen it done before.” Hook: “Yes.” Evil Queen: “The enchantment will only allow you to rip out one heart, so make sure you do it right.” Hook: “What could she have possibly done to warrant such brutality?” Evil Queen: “That's my business. Yours is to kill her and bring her body back to me.” Hook: “Easy enough. When will I set forth on this murderous journey?” Evil Queen: “Immediately. But you won't be going alone. (Walks over and reveals her dead jailer:) You remember Claude.” Hook: “Can't say that I do.” Evil Queen: “You killed him in the cell block.” Hook: “Ah, yes. I didn't recognize him without my hook in his neck. Forgive me, but isn't he a bit of dead weight?” Evil Queen: “I banished my mother to a far-off land some time ago. You're going to need a portal to get to her. (She pulls out Jefferson’s hat:) The rules are simple. One goes in, one comes back. Or in this case, two in, two back. You'll arrive with Claude, and you'll return with my mother.” Hook: “Now tell me... which far-off land do I have the pleasure of visiting today?” Evil Queen: “Wonderland.” Hook: “Aptly named, I'm sure. How will I find her?” Evil Queen: “Oh, don't worry. She'll find you.” (Regina spins the hat and we cut to:) Wonderland. Past. (Hook is being led by armed guard towards the Palace.) Knave of Hearts: “Kneel before the Queen of Hearts.” Hook: “Appreciate the warm welcome.” Queen of Hearts: (Whispers to the Knave through a long tube:) “Why has he come to Wonderland?” Knave of Hearts: “The Queen wants to know why you've come to Wonderland.” Hook: “I'm in search of someone. In her native land, she goes by Cora.” Cora: (Dropping her mask and stands:) “In this land, she goes by Your Majesty. Leave us. (The crowd leaves:) Your name, pirate?” Hook: “Hook.” Cora: “What a clever nickname.” Hook: (Gets to his feet and walks forward, a necklace dangling from his hook:) “I come bearing gifts, if you’ll allow me.” Cora: “This hat, your portal... If I understand correctly, the same number who travels through must also return. You arrived with him, (Indicates poor Claude:) but whom shall you return with?” Hook: (Tosses the necklace away:) “You. (Tries to rip her heart out but cannot:) What?” Cora: “I'm the Queen of Hearts. Do you really think I'd be so careless, as to keep my heart where everyone else does? This... (Sticks her hand into his chest:) is how it's done. Tell me, who did this? Who sent you here to kill me? Who?” Hook: “Your daughter.” Cora: “Regina? She... wants me dead? You're now going to tell me everything, and do exactly what I want. Because when you hold a heart, you control it. You have the power.” The Enchanted Forest. Safe Haven. Present day. (Cora has trapped Aurora.) Cora: “I thought you might be hungry. I hope you enjoy stew.” (Placing a tray in front of Aurora.) Aurora: “I enjoy anything that masks the bitter aftertaste of poison.” Cora: “Plucky. I like that.” Aurora: “You might as well go. I'm not gonna tell you anything.” Cora: “Oh, I know. That's all right. You've nothing to tell. You weren't my target.” Aurora: “The compass? Sad you lost it?” Cora: “I suppose. But now, I have something to trade for it.” Aurora: “They'll never trade me for that.” Cora: “You might be more valuable than you know.” Aurora: “To who? They just met me and they're trying to get back to their families. Do you really think they'll sacrifice that for a stranger?” Cora: “Your newfound companions? You may not know them but I do. Snow and her daughter just can't help themselves. No matter the personal stakes, they won't let an innocent die.” Aurora: “We shall see.” Cora: “And what stakes do you have in their cause, princess? (Aurora looking down:) It's not as though you'll travel back with them. (Aurora facing Cora:) Oh, what a sweet misguided notion. Did you really think you could have a life there? Find another prince? You've forgotten Phillip already.” Aurora: “Phillip is in my heart every moment of every day. If there was anything I could do to bring him back, I would.” Cora: “Is that so? What if I told you that when a Wraith consumes a soul, it merely travels to another realm. But that soul could be brought back to this world. Show me a little courtesy and I may explain how.” (Aurora kicks the tray at her feet.) Cora: (With rage:) “Oh, you stupid, ungrateful girl!” Aurora: “I'm not as stupid as you think. Nor are my loyalties so easily bought. You can bring me a hundred meals and make me a hundred promises, but I am never helping you!” (Cora knocks her unconscious.) Cora: “Plucky. (Walks over to a raven, stroking him:) Tell them.” (The raven flies away.)
The Enchanted Forest. Present day. (Emma, Mulan, Mary Margaret are traveling. The raven lands on Mary Margaret's shoulder.) Mary Margaret: “Wait.” (The raven flies back to Cora.) Emma: “What the hell was that?” Mary Margaret: “Cora. We have until sundown to bring her the compass. If we don't, she'll kill Aurora.” Mulan: (Reaching for the compass Emma's holding in her hand:) “Give it to me.” Emma: “Hold on, Mulan. Just give us a minute to consider.” Mulan: “There's nothing to consider. A compass is not worth Aurora's life.” Mary Margaret: “We need a plan to get back Aurora and keep the compass.” Mulan: “My vow to Phillip was to protect Aurora. That promise is all that is left of him, so it shall be done.” (Reaching for the compass again.) Emma: “Hey! Hey, I climbed a beanstalk for this. You go get your own.” Mary Margaret: (Forcing Emma and Mulan apart:) “Mulan! Mulan! Give us a few hours, please. If we haven't defeated Cora by then, you can have the compass.” Mulan: “You can't hope to defeat her. We no longer have access to the Dark One's assistance.” Mary Margaret: “Yes, we do.” Mulan: “How? Aurora's gone.” Mary Margaret: “Aurora isn't the only one who's been under a Sleeping Curse. I can go back to that Netherworld.” Mulan: “The door to that place is closed. You said it yourself.” Mary Margaret: “There may be a way. A way for me to go back into a deep slumber that can provide me access to it again.” Emma: “Another sleeping curse?” Mary Margaret: “No, no, no. Not a curse. I don't need one. I've been under one already. I need to go into a sleep where my natural defenses slip away, where my mind stops protecting me.” Emma: “How?” Mary Margaret: (Facing Mulan:) “Your sleeping powder. If I inhale it, I will fall into a deep enough sleep that I should be able to do this.” Mulan: “I used the last of it on the giant.” Mary Margaret: “Then make some more.” Mulan: “The poppy plant is extremely rare in this kingdom. But I know of a place that may grow some more. It's a bit of a journey from here.” Mary Margaret: “Can we make it by sundown?” Mulan: (Nods:) “We must hurry.” Storybrooke. Present day. Mr. Gold's shop. (Regina uses water to cool Henry's burn.) Mr. Gold: “Here, let me take care of this.” (Making a gesture, healing Henry's arm by magic.) Regina: “What caused this?” Mr. Gold: “When you venture deeper into the Netherworld instead of away, there are risks. Someone woke Aurora before her soul was ready to return. The violence of that act tore her away and injured Henry. We're lucky it wasn't worse. He's gonna need some time to recover before he can be sent back.” Regina: “Out of the question.” David: “Not a chance in hell. No. We'd be monsters to even consider risking his life again.” Mr. Gold: (Standing up:) “Careful with your tone, Charming. I understand your concern for the boy, but I know Cora. Without our help, Snow and Emma will soon be dead. And then... (Looking at Regina:) a true monster will be on her way to Storybrooke.” Regina: “Aurora is gone. Why do we have to send Henry back to that fiery inferno with no one there to receive our message?” David: “Because someone will be there.” Regina: “Who?” David: “Snow.” Regina: “That's an awfully big assumption.” David: “No. No, it's not. She was there once before. She can go back. She can find a way. She will, I know it. And I'll be waiting.” Regina: “You’re going to this Netherworld?” David: “I faced you. How bad could it be?” Mr. Gold: “It is not as simple as that. You can't get there. You haven't been under a sleeping curse.” David: “Well, then put me under one.” Mr. Gold: “If we do that, there's a chance you might never awaken.” David: “Sure I will. When I see her she'll kiss me and I'll be fine. Now put me under. I've spent far too much time looking for my wife. It is time to bring her home!”

Suits: Part 5

Genre: romance, mystery, crime, thriller

Teaser Part 1 Part 2 Part 3 Part 4
That night you had fallen asleep alone – letting your sadness put you to rest as soon as you came home from the bakery. You woke up to see your pillow stained with smeared mascara and lipstick as you faintly recalled crying into it. With an inward sigh, you grabbed your phone beside you, watching as the screen lit up to reveal no missed calls from your fiancée. It was nearly midnight and you still had yet to hear from him. “Where is he?” You whined. What if he had gotten into an accident? Or worse? You worriedly thought while attempting to dial the police before you heard the front door suddenly open.
Nearly bolting out of your bed, you rushed towards the door, “Jackson is that you?” You asked as your bare feet prodded across the cold floor.
And just as you turned the corner, you were faced with the man you loved. He glanced up as soon as he heard your voice, looking nearly surprised to see you awake before taking off his shoes at the entrance. “Hey baby, what are you still doing awake?” He asked.
Not bothering to answer his question, you quickly intervened with your own as you stepped closer. “Where were you? I was so worried.”
“Why were you worried? I told you I had to stay late at work again.” Jackson answered as he kept his usual calm demeanor.
Narrowing your brows, you looked at him in suspicion as you took a step back and crossed your arms. “…No you didn’t?”
His mouth went agape for a second while letting out an awkward “Ah” before walking towards the coat closet. “Sorry babe, I must’ve forgotten then.” He casually admitted while taking off his suit jacket and placing it around a hanger.
“Just like you forgot about our wedding cake tasting today?”
And as soon as you said those words, he suddenly stopped what he was doing before letting his eyes trail back to you. A fresh wash of guilt had consumed his face, causing him to look at you wide eyed as you pressed your lips together in a gloomy pout.
“…Baby, I completely forgot. I’m so sorry,” he pleaded while dropping his coat and coming towards you. You stayed still as he wrapped his arms around you, embracing you tight as he ran a hand against the back of your head. “I’ve been so drained with work and it just slipped my mind.”
You closed your eyes to refrain the tears from falling out yet again as both a mixture of anger and sadness crossed your mind. He had broken yet another promise to you and you would be lying if you said it didn’t hurt.
But then again you understood where he was coming from. Being in this high of a position at the law firm was no easy task and judging from the tired look in his eyes, you believed every word as he apologized over and over again – swearing up and down that it wouldn’t happen again just like the last few times.
And it was yet again that you forgave him. Being the positive person you were, you didn’t want to waste anymore tears about the situation. You loved this man and you weren’t going to let some simple matter get in the way of your marriage.
“Tell you what,” Jackson hummed against your ear.
“What?” You asked, holding him tight as you two stayed in the comfort of embrace. “To make up for it, why don’t I make you dinner tomorrow evening?”
You stopped to look at him, “Jackson, you don’t have to-”
“No I want to, seriously.” Your fiancée urged while gazing down at you. “I’ll make you your favorite dish. It’ll be home cooked and everything.” He added with a cute smirk and you couldn’t help but smile before noticing something…
Your smile immediately faded as you stared at Jackson’s lips, looking at them rather curiously before subconsciously bringing a single finger up to the rim of his mouth.
“…Is that lipstick?”
Taken back, he quickly brought his hand up to his mouth. “Ah, this?” He asked while roughly rubbing his fingers against the surface, quickly rubbing off the light tint. “It’s from a cherry lollipop – I got hungry and sneaked one out of Laurel’s office.” He lightheartedly explained with a laugh.
You stayed quiet as the sudden image of Mrs. Laurel came into your mind. She was an older woman, presumably around her mid-50s and working towards her retirement. Her office is only a few feet away from Jackson’s and she’s known to have a sweet tooth, explaining the reason why she always keeps a variety of candy stuffed in the top drawer of her desk.
Quirking an eyebrow, you looked down to his now stained hands. You stared at the pinkish-red color, feeling almost sick at the idea of it actually being lipstick. “Baby, it’s really from a lollipop I swear.” Jackson’s smooth voice interrupted your thoughts – causing you to look up at him. You kept quiet, not bothering to utter a word as you then nodded your head in response.
Feeling relieved, Jackson took you back into his arms, hugging you once more. “Let’s just forget about tonight,” he stated. “I feel bad about the cake tasting, but like I said, I’ll make it up to you Y/N.”
You hesitantly wrapped your arms around him, “…Promise?”
“Promise.”
~*~ You were surrounded by police tape as you entered the large mansion, “Ma’am you can’t go in there,” one of the police officers warned by the entrance. Not even batting an eye, you shoved the warrant you had retrieved this morning in his face before proceeding to walk in.
You were at none other than Jinyoung’s house, searching the place yourself for evidence just like you promised him before. The place was exactly how he had described it. With its grand interior and posh décor, you could tell a billionaire indeed lived here. However, you couldn’t help but feel there was an eerie aura throughout the mansion as you walked through it. It was no longer a home, no. But instead a murder scene with its vibrant yellow caution tape and cops surrounding the place.
Walking up that marble staircase, you showed yourself to the scene of the murder – awaiting to see exactly what it entailed as Jinyoung had previously described it as a horror scene.
And as you walked in, ‘horror scene’ was indeed the first thought that came to your mind. Blotches of blood stained the white carpet of where the body had laid while broken glass and scratched up furniture filled the rest of the master bedroom.
“Pretty gruesome isn’t it?” An officer nearby commented.
“Yeah it’s horrible.” You replied, not being able to take your eyes off the scene as you could feel your heart sink for the poor woman that was murdered here. You ducked under the caution tape to get a better look, being careful not to step on any glass as you made your way towards the bed.
You pulled out your camera, taking snapshots of the bloody scene for your own evidence before turning back towards the bed and zooming in on the blood near the mattress.
And as you did you spotted a hair in the frame.
Moving your camera away from your face, you leaned down as you kept your sight on the tiny fragment. It was a short strand of thin black hair, much different than Jinyoung’s as he sported a longer hairstyle.
“Officer,” you called. “…I think I found something.”
~*~
Later that day you found yourself walking down the busy hall of the police station, scurrying after an officer named Pete and following him into the laboratory upstairs. It was nearly 7 p.m. and you had just finished talking to the lab coordinators about the newly found hair sample you retrieved earlier. You wanted answers now but to your disappointment, the earliest they could have a DNA match report would be within the next few weeks, despite your continuous efforts to hurry up the process otherwise.
But of course not all things could go in your favor and as you thanked officer Pete and the others for their time, you began to make your way out of the building before bumping into an unexpected ‘friend’.
“What the hell are you doing here?” Mark growled upon seeing you. You stood still as he came directly in front of you, stopping just a foot away as he sized up your presence.
“Just came by to drop off some evidence that’s all,” you admitted with a sly smirk.
“Evidence?” He repeated and you nodded your head proudly. “Mhm,” you hummed. “Just one step closer to find out who the murderer is.”
The man couldn’t help but scoff at your statement, even going as far as to rolling his eyes in front of you. “You’re kidding right? We already know who the murderer is-”
“And I’ve already told you you’re wrong.” You snapped through gritted teeth, causing Mark’s smirk to disappear. “Listen, I know it’s your job to defend your client and all, but save the bullshit for the trial please.” He remarked before brushing past you – making his way towards his office before you let out an annoyed groan.
“…And why do you care so much?” You shouted while turning towards him.
In an instance he caught your accusing glare, giving you an offended scoff in return. “I don’t.”
“Then why were you at Mrs. Park’s grave that day?”
“I was just paying my respects-” He began but you shook your head. “No.” You huffed. “I think you’re hiding something. You hate Jinyoung -”
“Of course I do, he’s a murderer.” Mark snapped and you gave him a disapproving look. “No, but the hatred you feel towards him is different. It feels more personal.”
Mark kept a straight face, merely shooting you a nasty death glare in exchange. “Think whatever you want to think Y/N,” the man called back in an annoyed manner as he turned away. “I’m not wasting anymore time talking to you.”
“Alright fine, but just answer this last question!” You urged from the other end of the hall and he stopped again. “What is it now!” Mark yelled in fury while snapping his head around one last time.
You stared at him for a split second longer, noticing the color and length of his hair. “…When was the last time you got a haircut?”
“A few weeks ago,” he quickly answered with a confused look. “Why?”
And at that moment you felt yourself instinctively take a few steps back as you stared at him. “You’re looking a little shaggy around the edges that’s all.” You criticized before spinning on your heel and continuing out of the building.
Just by the look of it, Mark’s hair was a possible match to the one you had found earlier. Sure, short and black hair was a longshot as it was so common – but there was something about that detective that made you feel like he was hiding something. Something much bigger and deeper than what he was letting off.
And you were determined to find out.
With a quick glance at your watch, you saw you still had some time to spare before seeing Jackson at home for dinner.
And what better way to spend it than solving a murder case.
Going back to the diner, you pulled out your laptop and began to search anything and everything you could about Mark – even calling around and asking about him while BamBam refilled your mug with coffee multiple times.
It was getting late and you found yourself growing tired by the hours of non-stop searching. “Find anything?” BamBam asked from behind the counter and you gloomily shook your head.
“Nothing,” you groaned. “Not even a single ounce of possible whereabouts or evidence.”
“Well this guy is a detective isn’t he?” BamBam asked with a crooked brow. “There isn’t much information on them in general.”
“You’re right,” you huffed before Youngjae came out of the kitchen. “Have you tried looking up the Jinyoung’s wife instead? There might be something.”
Your eyes lit up at the idea as you re-opened your laptop. “Good thinking,” you praised the man before frantically searching the name. Within a few seconds you were faced with numerous news sites about her murder trial before looking through some older web pages.
And it wasn’t until you were about to give up that you had suddenly stumbled on something in particular.
It was a photo from many years ago. Most likely from a personal social media page or something as it looked to be quite personal compared to the modeling shots she had taken for her job. It was a picture of a young Mrs. Park standing beside a guy at school – both with uniforms on and smiling idly at the camera.
From afar the picture was quite blurry, mostly caused by the low quality from the year it was taken. However, as you zoomed in on the guy’s face your mouth dropped as soon as you realized it was Mark.
“So he did know her…” you voice trailed off while staring at the picture. The two looked close and judging by the way Mark was acting so defensive about her only made you more suspicious that he had something to do with her murder.
“It’s him,” you declared. “I think he had something to do with the murder of Mrs. Park.”
“How are you so sure?” Youngjae asked as he and BamBam came close to look. In response, your friends both frowned at the picture before looking back to you.
“How does an old picture make someone a murderer?” BamBam asked as he crossed his arms.
“It doesn’t but there’s something about that man that isn’t right. He knows more than he’s letting off and I want to know why. This picture proves that he knew Mrs. Park way back then so what exactly does he have to hide?”
“I don’t know.” BamBam sighed. “Why don’t you just go up and ask him,” he suggested with a laugh and Youngjae rolled his eyes. “Oh please. If he really did have something to do with her murder, he wouldn’t just tell you.” The elder announced to a now annoyed BamBam.
“Exactly,” you replied. “But all this has to mean something – and I just can’t sit quiet about it while the real killer is on the loose. I need more evidence.”
“Well I’m sorry we’re not much help,” Youngjae said, watching as BamBam proceeded to turn off the lights in the kitchen as it was near closing time. “Yeah, we’re not a bunch of fancy lawyers like you Y/N.” BamBam added from afar and you shook your head.
“No don’t say that, you two helped a lot. Thank you,” you praised and they each shot you a smile. “I just don’t know where to really go with all this. I know my client is innocent but I really do think Mark is guilty.”
Your friends stayed quiet as you saved the picture and began to write about your findings in a manila folder, keeping everything together as you scribbled over multiple sheets.
“Well why don’t you get a second opinion on this? From someone in the same filed as you.” Youngjae suggested and you paused, with a few people coming to mind.
“Maybe I will.”
~*~
There you were, standing outside the entrance of the large hotel. In a million years you didn’t think you’d be doing this but you were desperate.
In fact this was your last resort. Of the numerous colleagues you had tried to contact about this matter, very few answered this late – only to turn your request down as soon as they heard you were working the infamous murder case of Mrs. Park.
In fact you even called your own fiancée, wanting to merely talk to him about the case until you realized just how busy he was with his own work.
And after more and more disappointing phone calls from your colleagues, you had somehow ended up in front of a five star hotel on the other side of town. From a simple google search you had gotten a hold of Jaebum’s home secretary, explaining who you were and asking if you could speak to him in person.
However, she explained he was on a short business trip a few hours away and gave you his whereabouts for the night.
Jaebum wasn’t a good guy but at this point you felt like you didn’t have a choice. You didn’t know if it was all the caffeine that was talking or Youngjae’s idea but you desperately wanted to talk to someone about this case – anyone.
But as much as you hated the thought of seeing Jaebum, you knew he was your only hope. Something was telling you that maybe, just maybe he would give you the time of day and hear you out, not as a prosecutor but as someone else in this field.
And there you were, staring at him from across the room – watching as the low lighting dimmed across his smooth skin; creating an overhead shadow over the tall man. He was dressed in the finest material money could buy. Donning an Armani custom tailored suit, genuine black leather loafers, and a silk tie to match.
Even from afar you could smell his cologne – picking up on hints of woody amber and oriental spice all mixed into an enticing aroma. His hair was smoothly swept back and as dark as midnight, bringing out the contrast of his light skin and chocolate colored eyes.
“So what exactly brought you all the way here?” Jaebum asked, shielding the slight hint of annoyance that rang beneath his tone.
Standing alone with him in his hotel room, the caffeine rush started to subside as you began to question your own reasoning for coming as it was late and you had practically barged in unannounced.
But quickly remembering your mission, you took a short breath before reaching into your bag and grabbing a manila folder. “This,” you muttered – carelessly throwing the folder onto the marble coffee table in front of him. A short smack was heard as the thick stack of paper hit the surface of the table before the room fell into a state of silence as Jaebum eyed the folder.
Holding a drink in his hand, he took one last sip before he brought his attention to you, “What the hell is this?”
“Evidence.” You simply responded, letting the confidence drip from your mouth as you spoke. You looked around the posh hotel room – noticing the grand lit-up city view the windows held behind him.
“Evidence? Of what?” He further asked, causing you to draw your sight back to him.
“To prove my client is innocent.” You answered before he gave you a puzzled look. “Listen…I know it’s late but I really think you need to see what’s in the folder.” You added.
A small chuckle left the man’s throat as he slightly turned around and set his glass on the counter, “…You mean to tell me you came all the way here just to show me this?” He asked in a mocking tone, raising a thick brow at you as if this whole thing was a joke.
“Yes. Why else would I be here?” You snapped with a prude look, causing him to frown. He stood silent for a moment – and the little glint in his dark eyes showed he was hoping for a different answer. You kept your sight on him, almost waiting for him to speak up further before Looking down to the manila folder once more.
“I’m speaking to you not as an attorney but as a colleague-” You started before a scowl consumed his features. “Jaebum I want to warn you before-”
“Get out,” he growled. “There’s no need to discuss this outside of work. We’ll settle the case in court.”
You narrowed your brows and picked up the folder as you found him heading for the door, quickly following behind as you spoke. “But this isn’t just any case Jaebum! You need to see what’s inside the folder! It’s important!” You pleaded, watching as his broad back was turned to you.
The tall man didn’t say a word as he reached for the door handle, infuriating you by the second while he twisted it open to reveal the hall outside.
“Hey! Can you just listen to me!” You nearly shouted, throwing your hand out and grabbing a hold of his shoulder to force him to turn and face you.
“There’s nothing to hear!” Jaebum snapped as he yanked the folder from you and held it in the air. “Revealing information could get us both into serious trouble – now get out of here before someone sees you!”
You rolled your eyes at his remark. “Alright – know what I’m done then. I’m done being the nice one, Jaebum. Just like you said, we’ll settle this in court and you’re going to eat your words.” You added, standing up to him while yanking the folder out of his grasp.
“Your client is guilty Y/N and you know it.” The man huffed, voice lowering from the yelling spree before.
A sarcastic laugh left your lips as you turned back to him, keeping the folder within your fingers as you swung around. “…You don’t know me, you don’t know anything about me Jaebum.” You announced in a condescending manner. “But be prepared to face defeat as this is one case you’re not going to win.”
“Is that so?” He snickered, taking a small step towards you as he ran two fingers beneath and loosened the collar on his shirt.
Your lips formed into a thin line as you eyed him with a dissatisfied look. “Yes, in fact you’re going to look like a complete idiot on that trial when Im done with you.”
The moment you said that the man’s eyes creased as an obnoxious laugh erupted from his mouth, displaying his pearly whites as he couldn’t contain his laughter at the idea itself. “Nice try sweetheart, but I’m the best damn prosecutor this city has ever seen.”
“Not when I’m done with you!” You quickly snapped, causing that boyish smile to instantly fade as expression went dead still.
The glint in his eyes had diminished as they were now dark, looking almost black against the dim lighting surrounding the two of you as he stalked closer. You stood your ground as he came near, becoming almost a little too close as you could feel a puff of minty breath against the apples of your cheeks.
He stayed quiet as he looked down at you, biting down on the inside of his cheek as he closed up the space between the two of you. Keeping your gaze on him, your limbs suddenly felt numb as the folder you were holding fell to the ground – feeling slightly startled as his hand suddenly snaked behind you and close the door shut – leaving you trapped inside and against him.
You stayed perfectly still, watching as he brought his face closer to yours until his lips were grazing up against your ear.
“You’re so confident but just wait and see…” He lowly whispered.
“I’m gonna get ya…I’m gonna get you real good.”

Eating BIG in Hong Kong
Eating like a local: Regional food specialties
- Exploring "Asia's World City"
After finding a fantastic deal on airfare to Beijing it was time to decide where else we wanted to go while there. We gave serious thought to Seoul which is just a two hour flight but we ended up crossing one off that was high on the bucketlist. If we were going to be in China then we weren't going to be too far from Hong Kong. A spot long on my hit list. So the decision was a pretty easy one.
Sights from Hong Kong
Hong Kong is one of those cities that all experienced travelers have a story about. One of the worlds great cities has seen some slight change since the British gave it back to China. For example English is now the second language though you wouldn't be able to tell it's not the first. This is Asia but it's probably the most North American city in all of Asia. It's their NYC. Hong Kong is a city of over seven million which is comparable to NYC's population of 8.5 million. In fact Hong Kong is considered a small Chinese city in terms of population. Most Chinese cities have +20 million.
More Sights from Hong Kong
Part of the reason it feels so Western here is they don't abide to the same rules as Mainland China. So you need not worry about being unable to access Google or other social media sites like Facebook. Hong Kong is a very savvy social media city. Pretty much all of it's residents are on it. Which makes a for a nice fix of old and new which is a constant throughout the city. I cant imagine what it looked like 30 years ago and that's bc it was a totally different place. Today it's the center of commerce in Asia. A city studded with skyscrapers as far as the eyes can see. I loved how you could walk into a 100 year old shop where they're still making egg noodles by hand. Then you walk out and you're engulfed by high rises housing department stores and such. Old and new blends well.
More Sights from Hong Kong
Bc Hong Kong is probably one of the most instagrammed cities in the world you don't have to worry about guide books and such. There's literally chapters on end as far as information. Usually I don't mention lodging etc in my posts but I'd be remisssed not to mention The Hotel Murray. Easily one of the best hotels we've ever stayed in. I suggest taking as strong look as it's location on the island is pretty much the center of it all. There's higher percentage of luxury spots on the mainland but if you want to be in the middle of it all this is your spot. The other side isn't nearly as exciting as far as everyday life. So while there were spots I wanted to try on both sides the island had more of them. Getting around is pretty easy. I loved the old school cabs which were spacious and made me feel like I was in an old Bruce Lee movie. They're cheaper than Ubers and they all seem to know the city well.
More Sights from Hong Kong
Speaking of food. There's so much of it. And it's not all Chinese. In fact they have it all. Pretty much every dish that has a following in Asia can be found here. On top of all that Hong Kong has it's own kind of cuisine that was formed during British rule. Not to mention all the classic Cantonese spots. I didn't get to try it all. For example we wanted to get some roast goose on the last day but we arrived to an absurd line at the famous Kam's. But one thing you can count on is the food will be memorable. The only problem is knowing where to start. I did hours and hours of research and still barely scratched the surface. That said I was able to put together a nice little guide for those headed to Hong Kong. My only piece of advice is don't skip out on the local mom and pop shops in favor of the fancier hotel restaurants. The best spots as always are those frequented by the locals. Let's roll.
More Sights from Hong Kong
________________________________________________________________________
Mak's Noodle
First stop up was one of the most anticipated. Do to it's close proximity to our hotel I made it our first order of business. Mak is originally from Guangzhou and his son opened a Hong Kong location in 1968. These day's Mak's has multiple locations most of which are run by descendants of the namesake. Known for having some of the best wonton noodle soup in the world but also known for what locals deem a super small bowl that cost damn near double compared to the other spots. It's not that they don't think it's good but some question whether it's twice as good as other places around town. After all Hong Kong is pretty much the center of the wonton soup world. Well that's partly do to the wonton soup served at Mak's. It's Michelin rated which means lots of tourists like myself come calling and none of us should have a problem paying the up-cost bc 1) they blast the AC keeping the inside nice and cool and 2) you probably haven't had better. The wontons are perfect.

Tsim Chai Kee
Across the street from Mak's is a spot called Tsim Chai Kee. They share a Pat's and Geno's Cheesesteak and a Lafayette and American Coney style rivalry. Tsim Chai Kee opened in the 90’s and immediately became known for their wontons which were about twice the size as Mak’s. Same goes for the bowl of noodles. The signature dish from here includes wontons, beef brisket, fish balls, egg noodles in broth. I was skeptical of all that other stuff but I always make sure to try the signature dish and this was it. My skepticism was warranted I didn't care much for the tough brisket nor the fish cake ball. Both of which took away space from the delicious wontons. Good but not Mak's good.

Shari Shari Kakigori
After a short time walking around the area and a failure to find a dim sum I wanted to try we needed to cool down. With Shari Shari Kakigori House nearby we got to do exactly that. Icy desserts are having a moment right now which means you can find them all over Hong Kong. One of the best ways you can cool down is Japanese Kakigori which is their version of shaved ice. Shari Shari claims they make their Japanese ice with water from Hokkaido. So they say the water quality there is 2nd to none. Honestly at that point right then and there I wouldn’t care if it was made with water from Flint. Anything to beat the heat. Well this was exactly what I needed. Finely shaved ice is loaded with fresh strawberry puree which is standard for kakigori. The Japanese don't fuck with artificial flavors.

Cheung Hing Kee Shanghai Pan-Fried Buns
What a delight it was when I randomly found a location of the spot at the very top of my hit list. I had initially thought the only location of Cheung Hing Kee Shanghai Pan-Fried Buns was across the Bay on the mainland. So I had it planned for a food crawl the following day but got them out of the way right away. Which makes it sound like I was dreading them but I most certainly was not. This was after all my first chance to try real deal Sheng Jian Bao aka pan fried pork buns. Think of them as a lightly fried soup dumpling. Something we do not have access to in Chicago or really anywhere in America from what I hear. You can find them but they wont be as good as these. So they say you may find better in Shanghai but this spot is about as good as it gets outside of there. The family that owns Cheung Hing came to HK from Shanghai. These too are Michelin rated which is probably why you can find more than one location. Easily the best dumplings of the trip and most likely my life.

Tai Cheong Bakery
The Egg Tart is a well traveled pastry. Originally of Portuguese descent it's settled in almost as many places as the Chinese themselves have. Hong Kong, along with Macau, are two spots where the egg tart is very popular. For many Hong Konger's these are a trip back to childhood. That said they make them a bit differently in each region where they're famous. This from an online article I found " In terms of crust, it’s important to note that Hong Kong egg tarts come in two varieties: the cookie crust (曲奇皮), which is dense like a pumpkin pie crust, and the flaky crust (酥皮), which is very layered and crumbly. Both of these crust variations are distinct from the Portuguese egg tart crust which has a larger flake and bears similarity to the outer layers of a croissant. If you look closely, the layers of the crust of a Portuguese egg tart forms concentric circles around the filling." Searching for HK's best egg tart will leave you with endless options so I just threw a few in my maps and made sure to stop by one of them when I was near. Tai Cheong Bakery was the winner. Open since 1954 this was one of those spots where you could get a glimspe into old Hong Kong just by walking in. It was awesome.

Yardbird
As far as specific foods go yakitori is right up there as far as my favorites. I crave it daily. Unfortunately it's not possible to eat it everyday in Chicago. So I like to make sure to get my fix when I have the chance. Yardbird is one of Hong Kong's hottest restaurants and yakitori is their jam. The Japanese art of grilling is best with the chicken where no piece or part is left behind. Every last piece of skin and organ is used to make some of the best tasting grilled meats that man can consume. It's a skill that takes great practice which is why it's not as common as other forms of grilling. Well the folks behind Yardbird did their homework. But I'm by no means an expert as I've never really met a yakitori skewer that I disliked. My absolute favorite is the oyster which is a round piece of dark meat located on the back by the thigh bone. The name comes from its shape but could also be attributed to the fact it explodes when you bite it just like an oyster would. The Japanese say this is the juiciest bite of the chicken and one that should never be thrown out. Especially not when you can get $5 for one grilled over some extremely hot coals. Other favorites include the tail, wing tip, Ume thigh, knee.

Kwann Kee Claypot Rice
After a flurry of yakitori we walked over for the other half of our dinner. I had made sure to save room for some claypot rice from Kwann Kee. This little dive is a locals favorite and they were out and eating on our visit around 9p. We ended up waiting for about 20 minutes as the main dinner rush finished up. Kwann Kee is your typical HK greasy spoon diner. By which I mean to say if stuff like someone walking out of the kitchen shirtless is a big turnoff - stick to your hotel restaurant. Both the stir fries and the claypot rice are why you're here so try and remember that you'll be treated to some classic Hong Kong comfort food. We got an order of the rice which is made to order so allow for 20 minutes. Kwann Kee uses three different rices which cook in a claypot in an oven until the bottom is crispy. The meat options for your bowl are long but there's only a couple seafood selections. I thought the white eel was awesome and the perfect compliment to the crispy rice which was really good as is but even better with the little bowl of sauce that comes with each order. It's some pretty magical stuff.

Sing Heung Yuen
I'd read that this spot was one of the few remaining old school Dai Pai Dongs in Hong Kong where they specialized in Tomato Noodle and Crispy Toasts. It's highly rated among the locals who soon appeared right after they opened. I wasn't exactly seeking out the locally loved tomato soup. But when I stopped at another spot nearby and they weren't going to have food ready for another hour I decided to walk over here. I was the first person seated and I was able to communicate through a picture that I wanted a bowl of tomato noodle soup. I'm not a big tomato soup guy so this wasn't something I loved but it was oddly satisfying though I couldn't quite pinpoint why. Hangover cure?

Ding Dim 1968
After an unsuccessful attempt at dim sum on day one we went over for some after a trip on the Peak Tram. Ding Dim 1968 is one of about 100 dim sum parlors that seemed worth trying. It wasn't a must stop so to say but getting some dim sum was a must so we went bc it was close. The menu is traditional dim sum that has a bit of a contemporary twist. The chef is the younger owners uncle. The old man makes the food which he's been doing since 1968. There's three items I'll always order if I see them on a dim sum menu. The first one being pan fried rice roll. Here that comes with XO sauce and lots of chili flakes. Fantastic. Next up is Hargow aka shrimp dumplings. These were pristine which I'd read they would be. Rated among the best in the city by many bloggers. Last but not least is the dim sum classic shrimp siumai. They offer them with black truffle for show if that's how you roll.

Three Potatoes
We made our way across the harbour on the Star Fairy to the mainland. There were plenty of spots on my list that I had wanted to hit on this side. But damn was it hot. We got off to a semi rough start when after trying to find Three Potatoes for 15 minutes we finally found it only to find they no longer had the hash brown bowl I had come for. I know what's up with hash browns in Hong Kong? Why? Well they were Michelin rated (big whoop) and I saw a bloggers post about this dish and it looked legit. Like the type of thing I would eat no matter where I was. Hash browns are an art and apparently those from here are now a coveted piece of it. I did try the fries and I will say they were pretty great.

Sun Kee Cheese Noodle
Here's another spot that took us a good 20 minutes to find. If you know ahead of time that you need to go into a building which is the less modern one of the two within question of where it's marked on google maps it should be easier to find. Look for said awning up above. The walls are lined with pics of local TV stars who stopped by. Sun Kee Cheese Noodle has a cult following. It's members bow down to the cheesy noodles and pork neck. This is one of those dishes that can be very polar. It's made with instant noodles and the cheese is the salty processed stuff. But pork cheek meat isn't cheap nor abundant so you're going to pay around $7 US for a bowl of instant noodles. The jowl meat is lean but it's binded by a layer of fat that when cooked low and slow becomes nice and tender and then full of flavor when grilled. This was a guilty pleasure bowl of noodles that I wouldn't say I loved but I would definitely enjoy a couple times a year when the taste for mac and cheese came calling.

Kau Kee
Closing in on 100 years of service has made Kau Kee one of the most famous restaurants in Hong Kong. Their specialty is brisket which is big in HK. They're well known for two dishes which are brisket in clear broth with your choice of noodles and also brisket and tendon curry. If this is your first trip you cant skip the curry tendon. It holds a wonderfully fragrant curry broth that's more like the consistency of gravy. It's both rich and meaty and it will have you slurping noodles like there's no tomorrow. This was one of my favorites from the trip. How come the most comforting cold weather foods come from warm ass places? Who knows but I'll be craving this daily come February.

The Chairman
For those that were unaware I can clean up pretty nicely too. Dinner at the Chairman was going to be our "nice" dinner out. One of Asia’s best restaurants according to the people the worlds 50 Best. But that’s not why we went. I don’t give much credence to lists. Instead I pay attention to those I know share the same passion as I do when it comes to food. So when an internet food friend (@brian_eng) rec’d this spot it was a no-brainer for me. As soon as I saw their signature dish I made a reservation. Steamed Fresh Flowery Crab with Aged ShaoXing Wine, Fragrant Chicken Oil, and Flat Rice Noodles was money. Literally. As it’s a triple figure dish in US dollars. Not to be outdone the wild clams with chile jam and basil were also extremely fresh and flavorful. But the thing is if I'm being honest not as flavorful as some of the mom and pop spots. You're here for the quality of the ingredients. Crispy Enoki 'shrooms and spicy peppercorn king prawns rounded out a meal I’ll be posting about at years end when my annual year end Best Of... list hits the word wide web.

Tim Ho Wan
Tim Ho Wan is a very famous local chain. Internationally famous in fact. There was a time when they were considered the cheapest Michelin starred restaurant in the world but that was before they released their Singapore guide. Dimsum is the company's specialty. It can be found in over ten countries including the USA however so they say it's better in it's homeland. Hong Kong has a handful of Tim Ho Wan locations including this one in the main train terminal. It was busy but we were able to walk in and order within minutes. The kitchen is packed with workers who are making what seems to be endless supply of dimsum for a steady stream of customers. Aside from my two regular go-to dimsum items we had to try the famous pan fried turnip cakes and their most popular item the pork buns. Awesome stuff, all of it, but as always it was the hargow and siumai I liked most.

Yuk Kin Fast Food
I had high hopes for this locally loved fast food shack that also got the nod from Mark Wiens aka Migrationology. Yuk Kin is a typical family run HK style fast food shack. They set up in a col-de-sac each day and feed the masses of construction workers and such. They make a bunch of classics with their fried rice being one of the most popular plates. Mark Wiens recommended the curry fried rice and made sure to mention to add a fried egg for extra measure. I was excited for this bc a good plate of fried rice can be extra special. Usually it takes a place like Yuk Kin to find that special fried rice but this kind of missed the mark. It was good but not the life changing fried rice I was hoping for.

Home. Dumpling
I found Home. Dumpling when searching around for where to find the best what else? Dumplings. It's a small store with a few seats in the window on a street right off a main downtown strip. There's a handful of spots worth checking out it seems. I tried a mango smoothie from the drink vendor next door to this shop and it rocked. Here you can see them making dumplings right there in the open kitchen. In fact these weren't made until I ordered them. I love me some classic pork and leek. They made a really flavorful filling and did a pretty good fry job so these were up there for best dumps. I have a love for potstickers and if you do too you might as well head here for a classic example.

Kukuro Izakaya
Hong Kong has any and everything that's trendy so Japanese food is abundant. This hip izakaya is from a local restaurant team that gets lots of respect from the locals. It's name means owl which is one of the nights most graceful creatures. Their menu is a showcase of Japanese drinking den favorites all of which are meant to be enjoyed amongst each other. So go in expecting to get at least three things. You can count on all of them to be enjoyable but of the four dishes we tried the three fish tartare and the caramel corn were the clear winners with the snow crab yaki udon being a close second and the karaage being just ok. The caramel corn was pretty much what it sounded like except it wasn't fresh popped caramel corn. They halved corn on the cob and then lightly fried it with a caramel coating. The type of plate that makes for a sig-dish that pretty much everyone orders.

Restaurant Yu
One night I wandered in a cab over at a very popular strip of streets for nighttime dining. The options were overwhelming but luckily I went prepared. The first spot I stopped at was called Yu making it a pretty hard find as far as info on on it in particular. But it was in my google maps guide with this note that I must've found somewhere online. "Traditionally, street vendors who sold this dish to passersby carried their ingredients in two baskets attached to either end of a pole called a "dan dan". At Yu, these thin spaghetti-like noodles are served in two separate bowls - one with the noodles, mixed with spring onions and minced pork, the other with Sichuan chicken, in a chilli and lemon grass sauce. It's this herbal offset that makes Yu's version a stand-out, refining the spice into a clean, dry burn that leaves the lips delightfully numb." Yu is the owners name and he hails from the Sichuan Province. As you might imagine I was really taken aback by how good his dandan noodle soup was. The noodles in particular were really crave-worthy. This is a dish worth going to China and eating. One day I'll do so in it's natural habitat but in the meantime I was very pleased with my decision to stop here.

Mysterious Soup Dumpling Shop
This was a spot that wasn't on my list but must've been very near the last stop. I went in after seeing the guys making soup dumplings in the windows. Inside the walls are lined with articles from publications across China naming their soup dumplings this and that. How do I not stop in and get an order? Especially when I missed my opportunity at a spot high on my list earlier. I got the pork and crab option and of course they were good but I'll be honest and admit I've had better in the States. I think the fact the night was winding down here may have played in a role in them being over steamed.

For Kee Restaurant
One of my favorite plates of food was found as this classic Hong Kong diner that was basically engraved into the high-rises. For Kee is another great place to take a peek back into old world Hong Kong. If it was in America it would be one of those spots featured on all of the food shows and documentaries that like to feature the classic establishments. Part of it's lore is the cook/owner. I read she's the one and only person who does the cooking so if it gets busy prepare to wait and don't be the ass that asks when it will be ready bc she may come out to tell you never. Hordes of everyday people as well as famous Hong Kong actors and actresses come here for basically one thing. The pork chop over rice is a legendary breakfast dish when you add a fried egg. It's got a bit of Portuguese influence from their time in Macau but 'm not sure how it compares to the pork chops over there. I just know this was the tender most sweetest piece of pig I'd had in a long, long time. A memorable dish.

Penang Prawn Noodle Shop
One true sign of an international city? It’s eating options. With the people come their foods. Lots of Malaysians here so no surprise to find some killer Laksa (Prawn Curry Noodle Soup). It's one of the worlds greatest hangover remedies. This spot also serves a really nice bowl of Hokkien Mee. It too is a prawn noodle soup but the biggest difference between the two is the laksa has a little bit of coconut milk. Both broths are made from prawns shells and come loaded with deep shrimp flavor. Penang is currently number three on my travel bucketlist (paired up with Singapore) and I cant wait to try both of these dishes in their natural habitat. That's the thing about Asia. This spot might not be considered good against the best of Penang but if it was in any US city and it got a little exposure from someone with influence it would gain a quick cult following. Literally 1000's of spots are worth a stop in HK.

Deli Blossom
My last meal in HK came randomly bc I was running out of time. With about an hour until we took off for the airport I wandered out from our hotel and walked through a park that connected two neighborhoods. This small little storefront was on the same street as Home.Dumpling up above. But bc there's a bunch of street vendors in between both sides of the street you will only see the shops of whatever side you're on. Deli Blossom seemed to specialize in Hainan style Chicken Rice among other things. One of my favorite regional Asian dishes to eat. Chicken Rice is big in not just Hainan but also Singapore and Thailand. Hainan is a spot I'd love to travel to someday but in the meantime this chicken rice was wonderful. The poached chicken dish seems so normal but it's a dish that requires the type of skill that requires a life time of dedication. How was this compared to some of the best spots in Singapore? I cant tell you that but I loved the tenderness of the slippery chicken and the little cup of fat infused broth was great used to soak up the rice. A very nice farewell meal.

Why would an insurance company deny me coverage for not having central air and heating?
We wanted to switch from the local company we had been insuring our house with because their correspondance has always been very rude and they are very difficult to deal with to USAA who we do all of our banking, brokerage, car & boat insurance through and are very courteous and extremely easy to deal with. We were denied coverage because our home does not have central air or heating. We live in South Central Florida so a heating system would be an absolute waste of money (the wall unit in the Great Room and a space heater in the bedroom are more than sufficient to make the house hospitable in the few welcome days of winter cold enough to warrant their use). My wife and I both cannot stand Air Conditioning and would never use Central A/C other than the one or two times a year we would normally turn on our wall unit when it is too hot to bear and the windows and doors cannot be left open. Houses have existed for Milleniums prior to the invention of Central Climate Control and I am sure home insurance existed atleast a few decades before the invention of air conditioning. Why would not having central climate control be a disqualifying factor in getting home insurance coverage? I highly doubt that not having A/C or heat is going to make our house any more likely to be damaged or destroyed in a hurricane, robbed or flooded. Opening the windows and doors instead of having a HVAC system consistantly running in our house makes us less suseptable to fire.""
Car Insurance.?
Does anyone know if there is a temporary car insurance you can get, so you only have to pay for it when you are driving the car. My car insurance is $150/month for plpd(partial), it is the cheapest there is, and my car is only worth around $2000. I only drive my car once a month for a 70 mile round trip. I just think its a lot to be paying $150 for a 70 mile trip. More than $2 a mile just for the insurance seems like quite a bit to me. There is no taxis or public buses where I live, and I dont want anyone else to take me. I am only interested if someone can give me information about the insurance. And a motorcycle wont work. Car insurance for 19 year old driver?
Hey guys, So I'm a 19 year old student looking to buy a car, more specifically a 1996 Pontiac Firebird. I'm not gonna ask the regular question about how much this costs, 'caus i already tried quotes from geiko, farmstate and all those, but to get a car insurance on that car it's going to cost me around $4.000 at geico which was the cheapest.. Main question: If i don't care about my own car, like if it breaks down or gets destroyed stolen or whatever I don't care caus' it only costs like $4.000 itself. Can I then buy just the required insurance to cover third party damage ? I think it's called a Liability insurance? Problem is that I've searched the internet, and can only find complete packages, but I heard there's a lot of money to be saved that way, and by a lot I mean A LOT, is this true? If yes, where would I find insurance that only covers third party's losses?""

Nationwide car insurance....?
So yea it was a snowy day in mississippi..... something that don't usually happen... I slided on ice and hit the guard rail... it was only 1 or maybe 2 bump... the car wasn't messed up that bad.... I mean there was a dent from the inital bump but what do you expect? The officer said when I asked them could they fix it he said probably... its not really bad at all.... and that the same thing I said... so I find out days later after they inspected it, they was gonna jump it and not fix it... so my question is why do we pay all these hundreds of dollars every month that when it comes to the company to their job, they don't do it? I think I was paying 240 every month for my 98 ford explorer... also do they suppose to pay me for the value of my car since they not fixing it? The reality of it that if I known this would have happen could I just save that money I was paying them these years and put the money in my pocket so when I crash I could take that money and buy me my own car instead of being carless when I was giving the money to the insurance company? I mean wuts the point of even paying them honestly?""

How do the candidates expect to make everyone buy health insurance?
Health insurance costs are extraordinary, Hillary and OBama want to force people to buy health insurance (and subsidize the costs for some) but they fail to address the reasons health insurance is so expensive. Why can't people buy health insurance over state lines?
Why can't the individual pick his policy out of state? Why can't this person and the family pick and chose the details of their plan? Not everyone wants a policy which the state mandates the use of chiropractors or psychiatrists. Zogby says: 72% of those polled (1,001 likely voters) supported allowing someone living in one state to purchase health insurance from another state, if the insurance is state-regulated and approved. (15% were opposed and 13% were not sure.) But... Current laws prohibit individuals from buying health insurance across state lines. Rather, they must buy what has been approved in their own state. What industry in America is insolated only to each state? So tell me, anyone that really knows the answer...why are we limited in our chose? How much does points on your license affect my insurance?
I would like to let you people know that I'm a full-time student, and that this month has to be officially the worst month of my life. Throughout this month I've been pulled over twice, and the reason for them are pretty stupid if you ask me. I basically see it as being at the wrong place at the wrong time. The first time I got pulled over was while I was getting off a red light with a car in front of me. I got hit with 3 tickets. - Tailgating, (supposedly I was too close to the other car when i was getting off the red light) - Careless driving, (don't know how this plays a roll in why I got pull over) - Loud muffler, ( just got it back from the mechanic that day and had a leak on the exhaust) The second time I got pulled over I stopped on a red light and checked if I can make a right on red, there was no sign stating I can't, so I went ahead and turned red when possible. I was given two tickets. smh -____- FML - Failure to observe traffic control device ( don't know how if I clearly noticed it was red) - Careless Driving _______________________________ Aside from the facts that they are points on my license, I'm going to do my best in trying to take some courses that can remove the points they gave my license. All in all, how much will this affect my insurance. Again FML, I'm a full-time student who commutes and has no job.""

Club President Susan Peinado called the meeting to order at 4:02 PM. Susan thanked everyone for coming and asked all Club members who joined that day to stand and be recognized. She then introduced the following people who wished to speak:
Dave Myers, candidate for Sheriff of San Diego County, said that when he started working in the department 22 years ago, his model was to police and respond to calls for help as if his mother was calling. He complained that they’ve gotten away from that today and treat marginalized communities differently.
James McCord, a volunteer with California Clean Money Campaign, spoke about AB 14, the Disclosure Act, that’d require political ads to clearly show their top funders. He urged people to sign his petition and visit their website, www.YesFairElections.org. Later, Susan responded to his request that the Club endorse AB 14 by entertaining a motion that we consider endorsing at the next meeting; the motion was made, seconded, and it passed.
Doug Case, State Senator Toni Atkins’ Political Outreach Coordinator, spoke about two bills introduced by the senator: SB 179, the Gender Recognition Act, and SB 230, an act that deals with sex trafficking. She also recently issued a statement of intent to establish a comprehensive single-payer health care system in California.
Chris Dalton, a former USMC helicopter pilot, said he was considering getting into the race to unseat U.S. Rep. Duncan Hunter, CA-50. He said that unlike Hunter, he believed the purpose of government was to secure the rights of every American.
Jordan Beane, a candidate for City Council District 2, spoke about giving up his decade-long career in sports to run for a more progressive San Diego and about the importance of defeating Lorie Zapf and gaining a 6:3 Democratic supermajority.
Leaders from area Indivisible groups spoke next. Kathy Stadler said their main goal was to “Flip Congress 2017” and that more info was available at http://www.indivisibleGuide.com; Mike Sakasegawa said they’re all about consistent engagement with members of Congress and a great way to get one’s voice heard; Pam Hughes spoke about the group Truth Not Tweets; Becca Taylor urged people to go to “Invisible San Diego CD52” on Facebook and join a group.
Todd Gloria, Assemblymember for 78 AD, gave an overview of his first 83 days in office, saying he was selected as an assistant whip and assigned to the Parks & Wildlife, Education, Government Organization, Veteran’s Affairs, and Aging Community committees. He’s introduced AB 187 – The Disclosure Act, to increase transparency in local elections, and a bill to update HIV discrimination laws.
Q&A: Todd expressed support for SB 54 – California Values Act, saying the state won’t be complicit in mass deportation. Susan responded to his request that the Club endorse AB 187 by entertaining a motion that we consider endorsing at the next meeting; the motion was made.
PROGRAM, Part 1: Political Climate – Doug Applegate on Taking the Hill Col. Doug Applegate, candidate for the 49th Congressional District, spoke about the recent “Empty Chair Town Hall Meeting”, where Darrell Issa was a no-show, and about the prevalence of signs that simply said “1621”, how many votes Issa beat him by in 2016.
He talked about the importance of speaking to the veteran community, pointing out that the 49th has 45,000 veteran households. He said it’s not true that they’re all are Republicans but it is true that Marines will always vote for another Marine. He stressed that we have to make veteran’s healthcare, the single largest healthcare system in the country, work. Not only because it was promised but also because its success would prove that a single-payer system would be best for everyone.
When speaking about the use of the military, he said that you can’t kill your way out of the Middle East; that it doesn’t matter how much of a threat ISIS supposedly is because it’s actually a battle for the soul of Sunni Islam and Sunni Muslims have to fight it alone. We can help, but there can’t be boots on the ground. He added that Assad was the worst war criminal he’d ever seen and needs to be brought to trial.
He also complained that there were many things Democrats haven’t delivered on and that we need to wear our values on our sleeves and stop just calculating what’s going to bring in the most votes. He said the party hasn’t protected wages and American jobs for 40 years, but Trump made such promises (that he can’t keep), that resulted in a 70,000 vote edge and left our country with its greatest threat to democracy.
He said Democrats haven’t delivered to Hispanics, either; instead, we’ve just said we have to wait, resulting in a lower voter turnout. He added that the country has wrongly made Mexico the scapegoat of our problems, and that we now need to stand up for the Hispanic community. The issue is especially important to him because his three children are of Mexican heritage.
Q&A: Applegate said he’s against California succession, thinks the drug problem needs to be treated as a medical problem rather than a criminal one, and said we need to help the Hispanic community by telling them what their rights are, such as not having to respond should an officer come to their door without a search warrant. When someone expressed anger over the Party 2 not getting behind Bernie, Applegate said he was for Bernie during the primary, but was then with Her, saying it was important for Democrats to “win the bar fight.” When talking about partisanship, he compared Congress to bad parents in a divorce: the two parties refuse to “share custody of Americans” no matter how destructive it is. The GOP won’t even agree with their prior principles because it will hurt their brand: Trump.
He urged people to volunteer or contribute to his campaign at www.ApplegateForCongress.com
PROGRAM, Part 2: Political Climate – Carl Yaeckel from Citizens Climate Lobby Carl Yaeckel, with the Citizens Climate Lobby (CCL), said global warming is not a controversy as far as science is concerned and that we’re in a lot of trouble — our time is running out and we must act very soon. Things won’t get better if we only cut back on burning fossil fuels; we have to completely stop using them before the end of the century.
He said the CCL is an advocacy organization made up of mostly volunteers and has 50,000 members worldwide. Their vision is to have a livable world; their mission is to create the political will for climate solutions; and, their strategy is to get Congress to pass a National Climate Policy.
The CCL is nonpartisan, nonprofit, and solution focused. They also believe in treating every member of Congress with respect, appreciation, and gratitude. To illustrate how this approach works, he said that Sen. James Inhofe, famous for mocking global warming with a snowball, told them that he doesn’t mind meeting with them because they don’t scream at him.
The massive opposition from the fossil fuel industry is rooted in the fact that there’s $100 trillion worth of fuel still in the ground available to be burned. Therefore, there’s a need to approach the subject in ways that appeal to conservatives, such as emphasizing the opportunities a climate plan would bring to American ingenuity, its free market effect and call for individual responsibility, and its enhancement of national security through energy freedom. The economy and the employment rate would be greater and, also, countless lives would be saved.
More information is available on their website, www.CitizensClimateLobby.org and Yaeckel can be reached at [email protected].
Q&A: When asked about Scott Pruitt, the EPA’s new director, he said the election was the nightmare they always feared would come; the administration will have no climate policy at all.
TREASURER: Jonathan Wubbolding reported a bank balance of $8,200 and said the Club just gained 8 new members and 9 renewals, which will raise it to $8700. He stated that no major bills were due this month. Susan added that the Club paid the $150 rent for an Indivisible 52 group meeting held earlier.
PRESIDENT: Susan Peinado gave her last report as Club President and said that she really enjoyed serving in that capacity for the past four years.
NEW BUSINESS: ELECTION OF CLUB OFFICERS Ruth Rollins, Nominating Committee Chair, announced that Dev Zavari-Tabb had withdrawn as a candidate for Vice President, and that Merrin Muxlow, a new ADEM, had stepped in.
At the time each of the following officer candidates were announced, Ruth made three calls asking if there where any nominations from the floor and after hearing none, closed the nominations.
President: Jonathan Wubbolding – Ruth entertained a motion to pass a unanimous ballot for President, Howard Wayne so moved, it was seconded, and it unanimously passed.
Vice President: Merrin Maxlow – Dev Zavari-Tabb made the motion to pass a unanimous election for Vice President, it was seconded and it unanimously passed.
Secretary: Deborah Currier – Debra Storch made the motion to pass a unanimous ballot for Secretary, it was seconded, and it unanimously passed.
Treasurer: Thena Taylor – The motion was made to pass a unanimous ballot for Treasurer, it was seconded, and it unanimously passed.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
Howard Walker of the new Point Loma Indivisible group asked those interested in joining to meet with him afterwards.
Susan called everyone’s attention to the announcements listed on the back of the Agenda and said that everyone needed to consider running for office on school boards, planning boards, and PTAs, etc., and needed to doing things, such as working with groups like Indivisible, in preparation for the 2018 elections.
Susan thanked everyone for coming and invited all to meet afterwards at the Point Break Café at 2743 Shelter Island Drive.
ADJOURNMENT: The meeting was adjourned at 5:39 PM.
