Aki Izayoi/Akiza Izinski

1.) Famously built up as part of a protagonist group during the first and second season, complete with her own tragic backstory and several duels she got to participate in (very important in yugioh), only for a change in the lead writer (who, in some of his other works, literally admitted "he's not good at writing women") to occur after the second season, turning her from almost a main character into a literal "benchwarmer" for her duelling team (one of the outtro sequences in the later seasons literally refers to her as that). Fun things included such as: Had special powers in the earlier seasons which she struggled with and learned to control only to lose them for no reason in season 4; went from duelling several times to duelling literally twice during the entire 3rd, 4th, and 5th season, one of which was a tournament duel she lost embarrassingly despite being set up as a very capable duellist before; painstakingly learned a special form of duelling (card games on motorcycles) only to lose the only duel she partook in in this format; was briefly put into a coma (and lost her powers directly after) shortly before two of the male protags GAINED power upgrades; went from an acceptable amount of screentime to a background prop; also, despite being canonically sixteen, standard overly sexy outfit design with lots of cleavage (big tits because of course), a very short dress, and stockings with garters.

2.) She develops psychic powers when she is 8, accidentally injures her father since she can't control them yet. He calls her a monster, abuses and neglects her, and eventually sends her to a dueling boarding school rather than actually care for her. Other fear her and her powers so she suppresses them and never really learns how to control them. Eventually a cult called the Arcadia Movement recruits her because they want to exploit her powers for their own gain. In the first season she is introduced as a strong duelist with psychic powers, a rival on par with the male protagonist. She also nearly beats the protagonist in duel when they go head to head. She only starts to lose because she starts to open up emotionally about her past and fear of hurting others with her powers.

After this she joins the protags and is a love interest for the main character. They NEVER bring up and develop her backstory and stuff after this EVEN THOUGH this is such a good and interesting backstory. Even though she is introduced as a competent duelist, they reduce her to a benchwarmer on the team. THEY LITERALLY SAY SHE IS A BENCHWARMER IN THE SHOW!! She doesn't get to contribute to the plot, partake in important duels, or develop her character arc after the first season despite the fact she had so much potential.

Her character could EASILY have been used to explore trauma and exploitation, major themes already present in the show. But sadly they chose to only explore how those things impacted the male characters instead

3.) My poor girl. Her story starts off great, good set up, good characterization. She has psychic powers and her parents did not know how to help her. She ran away from home and joined a cult of people with similar powers. All normal character beats. The main character shows her the power of friendship and shows she has a connection to 4 other 'signers' who are suppose to protect against the season antagonist. She starts leaving the cult, talking to her parents again etc because she now knows there are prople who care for her. But thats where her development kind of ends. She learns the leader of the cult was manipulating her but she never really gets to confront him.

By the end of the season, she and the other female signer get sidelined because they doesn't have the core mechanic of the series, how to play a card game on a motorcycle. Instead they are replaced by a character who was not originally a signer but by the end became one cause he helped.

Season 2 and beyond is shows not much more than that. Except for she has a whole episode dedicated to learning how to ride a motorcycle. The biggest thing about that is we never really see anyone else in the series learn or be uncomfortable riding and while it's realistic, it's only her. And in that episode there was like a couple of guys trying to make her fail like? I guess it's part of the episode of learning and overcoming challenges but why intentionally introduce the misogyny now? I think there was maybe 2 other woman who rode motorcycles in this show which is an overall series problem.

She went from a main character to background as the rest of the story focuses around the main character and his 2 childhood friends for the rest of the series.

Ultimately her story is wasted potential, she started out with interesting character and development but there was no strong follow up. We never see her work through how the cult used her or how it affects her after a first confrontation. She was just left hanging like every other woman in yu-gi-oh. And don't get me started on the manga. Iirc she gets introduced at the end for plot reasons and nothing else.

Aoi Zaizen/Skye Zaizen

1.) she's presented as a really strong dueller and is really famous for it - a duelling idol - and everything. she proceeds to have pretty much no substantial wins which wouldn't hurt as much if not for the fact that one loss in particular is just infamous for how dirty it does her. like alright. duels take place in the air in cyberspace, you with me? and when she lost this one infamous duel she fell off her board and faceplanted into the ground which would kind of be like fine whatever i guess but it's SUCH a visceral faceplant. like. if you haven't seen it you should go find the clip cause man. it was so unnecessary… besides that she also gets brainwashed (par for the ygo girls course) and falls into a coma (also par for the course). before i move on though the fact that she doesn't really win any important duels is made even more frustrating by the fact that she used one of the best archetypes at the time then changed for a worse archetype for basically no reason. her character has a lot of interesting set up from the start that's just never properly delivered upon but they trick you into thinking she's receiving good character development by changing the design of her duel idol persona and like sure the designs may slap but that doesn't excuse that she doesn't really get the cohesive character development they're meant to signify. not really

2.) Although she is supposed to be a strong and popular duelist in canon, she loses almost every single duel horribly. One loss is particularly brutal as she falls from a large height directly onto her head and goes into a coma (again. yes this was the second time). She has the least amount of duel wins out of all the other Yugioh female leads, save for one who never dueled one on one.

3.) In the show, she plays a trickstar deck. In real life, this deck became known as one of THE most overpowered decks you could use. Literally so strong they had to nerf it. You'd think this kind of overpoweredness would reflect in the show. No. Her biggest win comes from basically an AI child, a minor antagonist.

i think he would be a little awkward at first but he would get the hang of it. most of what he does is just keep them entertained and make sure they arent sick or hurt. though he eventually builds up the courage to ask if he can feed obanai. from that point on whenever muichiro is babysitting he's the one offering to feed him, though someone else has to make the bottle-- he doesn't know how to do that

Hands down, Obanai. Though I also feel really sad for Gyomei and Muichiro, and I think Tengen's story (what we know of it) is pretty sad. I don't like comparing traumas, though! but yeah. obanai is. wow. poor guy

my prediction for pokemon masters ex is by next month, that fairy team star brat uhhh (googles name) ortega will be out. aoi and/or haruto will come out next year possibly february (since pokemon presents will happen at that time too). honest to god idk when hassel will come out. maybe he'll be with the paldean protags as well. idk

but what i WANT to know is kierans appearance in masters. of course he cant possibly come in yet before the protags. and if we were to compare his fame to the swsh dlc characters, he got famous instantly the second the teal mask dlc is out.

and why wouldnt he? he was the first character whose arc got bastardized by protags actions. he was the good turned bad rival. his whole story is his obsession with ogerpon which then evolves into obsession into getting stronger to beat protag. literally no brainwashing whatsoever. we were told that our actions caused him his downfall.

but even in during those moments, he was implied to like protag. the festival date? him giving a candy apple? thats just a standard shoujo scene. and him feeling betrayed by protag? protag apologizing and feeling guilty as fuck but he was too hurt to forgive?

that scene with terapagos? him being saved by protag. him being guilty but then steeled himself before fighting with protag side by side? he was just written in a way thats meant for me.

and the fact that he traded an applin with protag. thats just written in a way thats meant for the me part 2

and how protag answers arvens question about their relationship with kieran? 'he's just a....friend' girl what does that mean

kieran was written so specifically romantic. he was the closest to any romantic implication since Ns 'i like you a little' dialogue.

he got number 4 in the top 100 dream girls poll. he literally swept the majority of most famous male characters who have been in that poll for so long and he just got number 4 at first try. he apparently also got first place in one of the pokemon paldea polls?

kieran got A LOT of merch. hes a nui. he has 3 full art SAR cards. he has a figurine form. he has that cute interchangeable pouch. i think hes one of the male characters who got the most spotlight??? the last time any male character got this spotlight fast was N and N is still relevant to this day.

and what i notice about pokemon masters is they like to cast A-star seiyuus for their characters. they credit the voice actors (which i love) but its inherently funny for me that characters who are famous will get a really strong seiyuu lineup (N, steven, calem, cynthia, serena, silver HEHE, green, hikari). even piers was given to a very famous rockstar in japan??? and larry and kabu were given by Legends

the fact that hosoya yoshimasa got volo is the funniest shit ever. no one expected that. like we know he might get an A-star seiyuu but we were thinking someone like ishida akira or hirakawai daisuke. someone with a sweet charming almost feminine but still trickster-like voice. but no we got a deep sexy smooth voice. not complaining <3

volo was introduced coz he is now involved in the arceus arc as the main villain. honest to God idk when kieran will show up but i doubt itll be 2 years from now when a new arc is introduced. maybe he'll show up a few months after the protags are in the game.

his seiyuu will be someone famous and well-known. the pokemon company isnt blind to his fame and the amount of merch he has is proof. tpc and dena Will assign someone well-known to voice kieran who. as of now. has NO voice whatsoever in any media.

maybe its kakihara tetsuya (tho i bet his voice fits ortega more). maybe its shunichi toki. maybe its amasaki kouhei. maybe its one of the legends like kishio daisuke.

I definitely don't have the energy to go into *every* individual person nor do I necessarily have much to say about some of em, so I'll only go into detail about ones I have particularly strong thoughts about/ things to say. Anyway some in particular that im fond of that ive not really talked about before:

I love love love hc Aoi as a nonbinary lesbian. Its like,, lowkey projection,,, but I think its supported by the text. She's got some hang-ups surrounding womanhood and being a woman and how that relates to her relationship with men (im thinking specifically of her last fte). I think it would be a nice resolution to that struggle for her to shed the expectations she feels entirely and embrace who she is, even if its different from what she feels like she's "supposed" to be. Idk I think its a natural conclusion

I enjoy nonbinary chihiro for a similar reason. I think it would also be a natural conclusion to her struggles with gender and what masculinity and femininity means to them

And somewhat related I hc sakura as a cis lesbian also bc of her struggles with femininity?? I like the idea of her conclusion being to embrace her femininity wholeheartedly. She enjoys being feminine but has a hard time reconciling that with her strength. Id like to see her enjoy both of those things about her

The Demon Prince of Momochi House Anime Review

So this is a show that I really wasn't sure if I would like but a friend of mind told me about it so I jumped right into the season. Before long it was one I look forward to every week and couldn't get enough of it. I loved so man characters in the show and damn was this a anime full of hot guys. Anyways that being said I wanted to break down parts I love about this show or I should say the people that make it what I love.

Aoi & Himari this couple I wasn't sure about when it first started because Aoi would turn into the Nue which would probably be the coolest thing about him if it wasn't for he seemed sweeter as Aoi.

That being said the more I saw Aoi and how he was with Himari it wasn't hard to really love him. They also seemed to feed off each other when she needed spirit or feel needed he was there and when he struggled with his own powers she was there to hold his hand. After awhile you really get to see these two were made for each other however it took awhile to get there. I mean don't get me wrong she was in love with him way before he knew his own feelings.

The iconic kisses between them were pretty hot in their own way. Like even when he was just trying to take evil out of her the way he kissed was not that of a kid. The chemistry was there and once they both realized it and were willing to put everything aside they made the cutest couple. Now I'm glad by the end of the series they were together and he told her he loved her I was so damn happy when he said it. I think all the fans all knew this boy was freakin head over heals in love with Himari even his friends knew just took him a bit longer.

I mean you can't tell me this boy when he would hold her body against him from behind or kiss her on the face that he didn't know what he was doing. I think Aoi is a innocent boy then when the notion strikes him he is a naughty boy but acts like he is still innocent. lol. Anyways I honestly do prefer Aoi as human and not as Nu and I really look forward to seeing these two have a great romance. Also the way they tied it up with her parents and him made it sound like they were truly fated to meet and be together and I loved that. Also the fact she went to the demon world to bring him back really showed how far she would go for him. I really love Himari without this sweet but spunky girl this show would not be the same.

Ise & Yukari there are so great to Aoi and will cover his back through anything. Ise was the first hottie on the show I noticed but the longer I looked at Yukari that man is beautiful like literally beautiful. I love that you get to know a bit of their back story along the way with Yukari being human and Ise being like this fire shikigami they really worked well off each other and were like family with Aoi I mean they were around him as a kid so its no surprise.

Ise is a tsundere no doubt about it, a very hot tsundere at that but it doesn't take long before he eventually warms up to Himari as well. He lost someone in his past and honestly it was sad because he is a very loyal man and you even see it when he is willing to sacrifice himself even for Aoi at one point. I hope to see more of his story and maybe a love interest later for this one.

Yukari is such a beautiful man its hard to believe he was human once. However I just wish he didn't always look so sad. I want to see this best boy get a happy ending in some way as well. He will stand by Aoi just as much if not more than Ise.

Mr. Nachi would have probably fell off my radar but damn it I have a thing for teachers. He was like a diamond in the rough then he takes those glasses off and damn he got hot as hell. Ok seriously a bad guy thats hot who knew that would happen haha like its not in most anime's I swear. Like you can't expect us ladies to hate them if they are so attractive. I even looked forward to seeing him on my screen even though he was a ass, and hurt Aoi plus will probably be a thorn in their side yet again.

Kasha is by far the hottest man on this show. From his bright red hair to those gold eyes Ahhh!! He is so dreamy. Yeah he is naughty and I say that because he just likes being a nuisance to Nue more than anything. I mean even in the last couple episodes he actually helped Himari get to Aoi. However he does most things for himself so I'm sure somehow that will come back on them. He is the bad boy you need to hate but then you look at him and your like "Bring me to the dark side baby!" Ok so maybe an exaggeration but thats my outlook.

Shuten Douji the gatekeeper of hakka well damn even this man is hot. He talks about eating her and I can't help but see this man and how hot he is drawn and my mind does not stay out of the gutter. He had a sexy voice to match it, but I wish there was more screen time of him maybe later hopefully.

Anyways I can honestly say from the awesome soundtrack to each episode I can't imagine not being pulled into this show. I know it got me and I plan to pick up the manga cause there is no way I can wait to see if we will get a season 2. If your looking for a very genuine but definitely unique anime this is it. There is other creatures the Nue fights as well as cool creatures like a giant cat and more. Even the story of orphan girl Himari which is what leads her to the house that was her families keeps you on edge to know as much as she does. I love all these characters but Aoi was the one that grew on me from the start to the end because I didn't expect to like him and now I love him too. If you like magic, supernatural like shoujo with romance this is it.

Sasaki and Peeps / Sasaki to Pii-chan Episode 1

THIS WAS SUCH A WEIRD FIRST EPISODE.

Overall Rating So Far: 7/10

(Purely because I have no idea where this is going and there is So Much and I can't make sense of it)

(This promo art implies it won't be a harem but I'm starting to have my doubts...)

I have no idea where to put my hopes in this anime, as everything that interested me initially got blasted through in the first episode.

Also, the MAL page has been updated since I last looked at it to show an almost all female cast whereas it had more male characters like French in it before it started airing...

However, I still hold hope. We've got quite a few big name VAs, but a studio thats mostly put out harem isekais (and possibly some hentai?).

Fricken Namikawa Daisuke is in here as a side character, French the cook (a bit on the nose for a name but..). He's one of my favorite VAs, and his famous roles (for me) being Hisoka from HunterxHunter and Chousou from JJK among a host of other huge roles. His basic existence is a draw for me. The fact that he is in this at all has gotta mean something, right???

Sasaki-san is also voiced by a big name VA, Sugita, Tomokazu !! Gintoki from Gintama, JOSEPH JOESTAR, Rudeus from Mushoku Tensei, KATAKURI from One Piece!!

And Pii-chan HAS ANOTHER FAVORITE!!! Pii-chan voiced by the amazing Yuuki, Aoi!! Our Beloved Maomao!!! who, btw is also the voice Madoka!! Tsuyu-chan from BNHA!! Tanya Degurecha from Youjo Senki!! Tatsumaki from One Punch Man!! An awesome voice with an amazing range.

I'll give it a few more episodes and see if the supposed actual plot keeps my attention. I'm decent at ignoring harem and fan service when it suits me (See, My Love: Tensura) (and I do also love me a good yandere)

Episode 1 Spoilers below~

Our main character is a salaryman/office worker name Sasaki, who is ready to "This is fine" and "Yes, and" his was through life.

We have a Java Sparrow, and exotic pet that said officer worker decides to buy ON A WHIM with NO pre-emptive research whatsoever.

Said Java Sparrow is a MASSIVE CHUNIBYO EDGELORD named Piercarlo who has been isekai'd twice?? and is a wizard, but can't use his powers because HE'S A SPARROW.

The scene where Peeps is calling for someone to pick him is hilarious, but man, the ability to just walk into a pet store and buy an exotic pet with no license, training, or background check continues to be terrifying. (I had the chance to buy a hooded crow for $2000, and was mind boggled that they wouldn't let me pet it but would let me take it home with me that day if I just paid. Japan animal laws aren't great yo)

The first episode was a double feature but I didn't notice until we got to the second magic system and went wtf?? It's still going? (I needed to LEAVE and was like... one more episode? *sparkly eyes* and ended up getting two... Nuuuuuuu not like thiiiiiiis I'm gonna miss my traiiiiin)

Last time this happened was with Ragna Crimson (Which SURPRISE SURPRISE IS BY THE SAME STUDIO) and I think Capybara and I made it to episode three? I feel like it's a sign if you need two whole episodes to express one episode's worth of set-up, there's too much going on. And that might be the case again. We get multiple magic systems! We speed run the setting up a trade business and a restaurant in another world! THAT WAS WHAT I WANTED THO, WHY'D YOU SPEED RUN THAT.

I was sincerely hoping for another Campfire Cooking in Another World...

I DO love that Sasaki-san rolls with everything that comes his way, including a yandere high school girl (however it's implied is being neglected since she's always sitting outside her front door while her mum fucks some rando... and I guess Sasaki does nothing or just doesn't notice?)

But after all the set up, suddenly a lady in a business suit shows up and is actively getting MURDERED by some dude with Magic?? But they're in the real world?? ? And she's about as Genki as Shion is in TenSura, (but I hope not as annoying as anime Shion, because manga/LN Shion is a badass).

BUT WHY. WHY IS THIS HAPPENING.

After a bit of research...

"The author, Bunkorori, says that he wanted to develop a story that would create a sense of tension in the modern world instead of showing a slow life in the other world. The author says that he wanted to keep a pet but was unable to and that he wanted to express his desire through writing, which was the impetus for writing this work."

This makes a bit more sense now... Not really, but that's basically all the pieces of what was included in this first episode set-up. I'm kinda bummed if it's not actually gonna be a slow life in another world, but maybe the tension of the modern world will be fun?

Not that I don't already have enough tension in my real world...

Anyways, a few more episodes! We will see if this is worth sticking with or if I'm gonna drop it.
