Part of me thinks 3H would've been a lot better if it engaged with Edel's actions, both her war and during her Flame Emperor guise during WC. But considering the game for the most part doesn't, it's not surprising that there's so much fandom wank surrounding her and why people try to write off the developer's opinions when the interview came out and they confirm that she's the villain, cause if the game isn't going to fully engage with her actions why should they. Don't get me wrong, I still love the game but it's such a bummer.

Oh I think the game would be 1000x better if it engaged with Edelgard's actions, but even if it had, you'd still get people insisting that she did nothing wrong and anyway Rhea's homophobic because the cathedral looks Catholic and besides, sometimes invading other countries is for their own good—wish fulfillment is a hell of a drug. I'm with you, I love the game, but the misogyny in Edelgard's writing is a glaring flaw that absolutely has to be addressed. (If I'm being honest, my assessment of any given character will tend to ignore Crimson Flower largely because I don't think you can talk about that route honestly without acknowledging that it exists, first and foremost, so that you can side with Edelgard and oh look how cute she is and how she can change for you, and the other characters are just warped and stretched so they can get sucked into this narrative black hole. I don't give dog turds any more attention than is required to step over them.*)

I'm sure I've said this before, but I would be much more interested in a story that actually engages with Edelgard's childishness and entitlement and how frankly weird and off-putting her obsession with Byleth actually is. It's still frustrating that the first time the Red Emperor is a woman is also the first time the Red Emperor is depicted in this way, but you can still work with it and have some genuinely interesting social commentary on the side. She is, at the end of the day, a wealthy and powerful skinny white woman who thinks her trauma gives her the right to make decisions for everybody else, and she projects inequalities and abuses of power onto the rest of the world when the call is coming from inside the huge fuckoff gold palace. I mean, the critiques of western imperialism and white feminism just write themselves!

*This does not, however, apply to things like Leonie and Byleth's B-support. It screwed over the fandom perception of Leonie, but you can work with it in-story if you're not a coward.

And he collapsed

I saw his eyes close, he wasn't breathing.

I was already crawling towards him, then I saw Artemis limping to us before I passed out.

I woke up 3 days later in the CHB infirmary with Percy in a bed next to me. Will Solace, and Grover are in the room whispering I don't think they see me yet.

I try to stretch my shoulders, its a routine every morning when I wake up.

"AHHHH, FUCKK!" I yell out in pain

What the freak had I been lifting my whole body is in excruciating pain after I moved even a touch.

"Annabeth are you okay?" Grover was right by my side now along with Will

"Yeah it just feels like I lifted 27 semi-trucks yesterday, without a break!" I grumble "My whole body hurts!"

"Annabeth do you not remember?" Will Solace whispered "You held up the sky..Your lucky you weren't Percy."

My eyes snap close as I remember holding the sky but I still can't remember anything else, until...OH NO, PERCY

My eyes snap open again with me screaming "PERCY!" I practically snap my head over to Percy.

"Annabeth did the memory shot work?" Will asked

"I REMEMBER EVERYTHING!"

"Can you tell us what happened to Percy? Artemis told us that he passed out after screaming something but she hit her head and that's all she remembered with Percy after she woke up."

"Before Artemis got us back to camp, Percy, he, he..." I had to tell them but the words wouldn't come out

I started hyperventilating

"Okay why don't you just rest for now Annabeth."

I try too sleep but I can't stop crying, I keep thinking about what happened, and how he fought for me...

I soon drift off to sleep

10 days later Percy just woke up

I wake up and without even moving I feel pain shooting through my whole body with out thinking I-

The tube went into my arm because I couldn't drink it in my small coma

I look into Percy's eye to see gray spreading from the top to bottom after like 20 seconds his whole eye is gray

I’m curious about your writing process. Like do make outlines from start to finish, or plan things out as you go. I love how your writing feels so well written and planned out, like everything you write has some sort of payoff. Anyways sorry for rambling😅, have a good day❤️❤️❤️❤️

ooo this is such a great question! my long fics generally tend to be pretty planned out. but ive been learning recently that having less of a plan and just jumping into a story is actually better for my motivation and for plot points happening organically. part of the reason i tend to write competition fics as opposed to other settings is that the structure of total drama allows me to do less planning and rely on what comes up spontaneously because i already have a framework im operating within. so i tend to plan out elimination orders and general arcs for characters.

i would say of my long fics, slippery slopes is the most planned out, amicus curiae is somewhere in the middle, and reprised and the courtney time travel au are the least planned out. i had very specific scenes i wanted to have happen each chapter of slippery slopes and i think part of why it's a strong fic is because a lot was planned out in advance (like, months and months in advance). but there were still moments that surprised me (alejandro and courtney's friendship was never meant to happen) and caused me to deviate from my plan for the better.

i started writing amicus curiae on a whim and i got 40k words in before i realized that the courtnemma relationship would work way better if they actually knew each other before the fic started (originally they met on the show). it was a really good discovery but unfortunately meant i had to rewrite ~20 chapters to fit that which was a pain in the ass but ultimately for the better. amicus curiae was a fic where i was really figuring things out as they went along (i changed who the winners would be 3 times) but i still had a clear idea of the personal journeys i wanted the characters to go through that weren't necessarily reliant on the competition/structure (ask me about this more once im able to talk without spoiling it!!)

the courtney time travel au is a serious experiment in that its very focused on interpersonal relationship and yet almost no eliminations are planned out in advance. everything is very spontaneous despite being a rewrite of the first season both for me and for courtney in the fic. which i think helps it not become too rote! but i also have no idea how things are going to go from point a (the basic straining chapters, which i just finished) to point b (the post finale chapters).

im writing reprised for fun as something low stakes and silly (because i love amicus curiae but its angsty enough that writing it can be emotionally exhausting sometimes) and i have the elimination order decided and very basic arcs/plot points for some of the characters but its open ended enough that i can have fun with it! and it probably wont end being one of my more narratively strong fics but that's okay <3

one of my more recent struggles with amicus curiae has been spending so much time developing the alenoah and courtnemma relationships that i find myself going aaaaa!! how am i gonna get these two together before the fic is over?? its really taught me to have a clear idea of when character dynamics shift, especially for romantic ones that are going to get together sometime throughout the fic. i love pining but i find pining for almost the whole fic and then only having the characters get together and be in a relationship for like two seconds at the end to be somewhat narratively unsatisfying.

so yeah i would say i try to plan out the character & character relationship arcs and i use the structure of competition fics for framework, but i don't plan out many details/specific scenes before i write them unless they pop into my head and then ill write the idea down and come back to it when its time to write the scene. i find that not planning out conversations/interactions can make dialogue much more organic when i write it on the spot and can lead to new discoveries about the characters.

as for payoff, i tend to go for the general rule of chekhov's gun: if there's a gun in the first act, it has to go off in the third act. basically, i try not to introduce any narrative threads if i don't intend to resolve them in some way later on in the fic. for example in slippery slopes, i introduced my version of alejandro's family issues with him alluding to his oldest brother carlos distancing himself from his family, and in the last chapter i have carlos showing up for alejandro and helping him get away from his family as well. pretty much as soon as i started writing alejandro thinking about carlos, i knew carlos would be there for him in the end.

planning things out can be super helpful and i certainly couldn't start writing a long fic without having any kind of plan, but ive found that having suuuper detailed outlines and knowing every little thing that's going to happen in advance is personally stifling for me as a writer and kills my motivation. so im learning to strike a healthy balance.

I know you said it's not your native language either, and I just wanted to know what slows you down the most? Because for me personally it's grammar, structure of the sentences and its punctionation. I always wonder if my commas are in the right place and if I used right marks, obviously the placement of it differs in every language. And do you have any tips for me? hi darling!! i'm okay, doing some writing!! and my holiday is going great <3 i've been at the beach all week, swimming and reading and eating delicious food. i missed my parents and my sisters like crazy, so it's been very fun to get to spend so much time with them <333

oh, yes!! i remember you!! i hope that fic is going well, and that you'll decide to post it someday. i feel like i already told u this, but i'm sure it's lovely, and if deep down u wanna share it, u should be able to do so, fear be damned (im aware it's not that easy but . u get what i mean)

and my editing process is . very boring and very long . i usually just write the whole chapter out, exactly how i have it planned in my mind, without stopping to check for mistakes, or letting myself get distracted by . a paragraph or a line i don't like, all that can be fixed during the actual editing. once it's done, i try to give it a day?? to let it breathe a lil. and then i reread it all!! i go scene by scene, and sometimes it means just fixing the grammar of some sentences and deleting a random line here and there, and other times it means deleting a whole conversation, or rewriting an entire scene bc it's not working how it's supposed to. editing can take me from a couple of hours to actual days, so it's not a process i really enjoy </3 writing can be a pain, but it's when i get to be messier and have fun and not worry about the end result. editing means polishing and rereading until you grow sick of the story. it's necessary but it's not my fav part of the process, that's for sure

i don't think i'm that bothered by grammar, but it's mostly bc this is just fanfiction and i kinda just . have fun with the language?? sometimes i'm aware i'm not structuring a sentence the Proper way but it looks more beautiful my way, and it sounds nicer, so why would i change it?? not a single one of my uni profs is gonna be reading it anyway. but as someone who isn't an english native speaker either, i totally get u, bc i used to be very insecure about this, and i still am a bit sometimes. i had this fear that ppl were gonna be able to tell english isnt my first language at a first glance. but so what if they do?? theres nothing wrong with that, and bc im bilingual, i speak and write in english in a manner native speakers cant replicate, bc i see and understand their language differently. and i think thats lovely!!!

the thing i struggle the most with is descriptions?? i feel like im not detailed or accurate enough, and like i lack a lot of vocabulary. i do my best to fix it during editing but it never quite works i fear.. i also write ridiculously long sentences, bc i use way too many commas when i should be using periods. and i think that my dialogues are pretty good, but at the same time im always . concerned about characters sounding real enough yk?? since, again, english isn't my first language

and i don't know about tips darling. i keep saying this, but i feel like i'm not the best person to ask about this At All, bc i'm not that knowledgeable, or talented, or skillful. i can tell you to remember that at the end of the day this is fanfiction, and we're supposed to be having fun and being self-indulgent. try not to worry so much about grammar and proper sentence structure or putting commas in the right place. bend the language until it sounds pretty enough for you and a sentence rolls off the tongue the right way. who cares if it's not Correct or Proper. it's not meant to!!! also, don't edit right away, let the story or the chapter breathe for a bit, otherwise you're gonna hate the whole thing and believe it's a Mess. it's usually not!! you just need a break and to put some healthy distance so u can edit more honestly, less unbiased

I love how you have to put pieces together to figure out what's going on with Y/N! Because when your theory gets confirmed you just get this SERATONIN (is that how you type it??) from it

(this one is honestly more of a nit pick just saying:) I feel like you could do a bit of foreshadowing like for example: In chapter 1 you could have described Y/N's backpack in detail so the readers know how it looks like and think "hMMM why are they describing it in such detail ???" and then when you get to chapter 3 you could describe Y/N's backpack as something else (not entirely something else but a small change) without Y/N reffering to it feeling like 'a different bag' maybe get him to say "something feels off..." so when the reader sees this they'll put the pieces together and say "WOOOAH WAIT THATS DIFFERENT FROM THIS THAT WAS SAID IN THIS !!!! :0" !! BUT!! Honestly that's just a little nitpick from me because I tried to write a few stories before (but then I gave up halfway) and I know bits and pieces on how to do cool foreshadowing (from a writer friend) but take this with a grain of salt because I am still ig a newbie at writing!! ><

also when Y/N is talking in his head and a thing thinks instead of him you could have a subtle shift in tone (idk if I am explaining this one well sorry I am a bit sleepy)

If smut is well-written and justified I'm totally into it (unless... I'm not for other reasons), but especially in ETL stories, you have to be careful. Seonghwa and Y/N were already on thin ice, sex would complicate things even more, obviously you could've used it as a plot device, but ultimately I'm glad you didn't.

It makes sense, they're from different worlds for sure, but they're not Romeo & Juliet, so I think they can do it, haha. Also, the opposites certainly attract in their case, after all Hongjoong felt too safe for Y/N and their chemistry just wasn't really there, I'm glad they remained friends though!

I would like to see more of their shenanigans back in university. Is Seonghwa gonna sit next to her? Is she gonna like it? 👀

exactly. which is why i mulled over a smut scene for the longest time, even when it didn't happen in chap 8, i initially said there'll be one for the final chapter just bc i felt something needed to happen between them before i could rlly put a closing to the story once and 4 all. but it's also the eventual realization that they don't need one. and im glad i stuck with that choice; i think it was the right one since they still have so many things to work on.

and u right 😂 after all, with how seonghwa's character is, i believe he will do whatever he want anyways lmao (for the right reasons this time). and yes hongjoong. im glad u brought him up. i wanted to give a dynamic between him and y/n where they really would just b better off as friends. ofc, they got a lot of love for one another, but they also idealized/romanticized the other person in the same way u would look up to an idol, y'know? but with seonghwa, y/n already knows his flaws, his lows, and how stupid he can rlly be; which is what makes their moments all more special when she does like something about him. but with hongjoong, she would have a harder time processing that he's not this dream guy she built in her head. idk if that makes any sense 😭

as for what happens to them post-final chapter, it really is up to the readers' imagination unfortunately. i havent really thought too much about it, but somewhat, somehow, we can say they are endgame <3

as for my other works, i cannot confidently recommend any already existing completed piece bc i am embarrassed about all of them to an extent lmaooo (i am still kind of a new writer to atinyblr). but u will see that i mainly write for San bc he is my bias <3 the only other series i have besides blacklist, is one I wrote for him called push&pull but the outcome of that fic is kinda shitty and i would steer clear. BUT I do have a new series coming out, call Broken though it is for San. Just posted the masterlist for it yesterday, not too long after finishing up blacklist. that would be the only one i'd say u keep your eyes on just if u want to stick around. i've yet to write for it, which is why i hope that when i do, it will turn out okay. i am kind of a fuckboy/badboy lover lmaoooo... u will see that very quick.

It's hard to teach Ancient Greek when Anakin Skywalker is making bedroom eyes at you from the back of the room, but somehow he has to manage. Anakin is a student, off limits, and Obi-Wan would never cross that line. Luckily, being a student comes with a countdown to an inevitable graduation.

The first place they met was on World of Warcraft, where Anakin is a tank who pulls recklessly and Obi-Wan is his long-suffering healer. The second place they met was at a random bar on a snowy Tuesday night in December.

• Apartment Story (10k)

It's late at night on Coruscant, midway through the Clone Wars. Obi-Wan is not at the Temple, not on his ship, and not answering his coms. Cody is at a loss, and so Anakin is dispatched to find him—despite his resentment at Obi-Wan's deception during the recent Hardeen mission. He finds Obi-Wan in a bar on the lower levels, and he's a little drunk, very depressed, and altogether confused by Anakin's presence. After all, Anakin had just moved out of their shared apartment. Why would he be seeking Obi-Wan out? Or, the boys finally communicate, and realize a few things about how their relationship has changed during the war.

→ Note, Lex Talionis isn’t there because I haven’t been in the right reading mindset to go for it, but I wish I was because it sounds like the coolest thing in the world. I’m also a fan of Temporary like Achilles, Snap, Crackle, Pop, Prompted | Obikin, and I think Symposium altered something in me forever. He also writes excellent metas on tumblr, the ones he wrote for the Kenobi show live rent free in my head!

If the pretty bird & mobi-wan series sounds like it would be your thing, I also heavily encourage you to check it out, it's not my thing but it seems incredible. Kit also has a ton of AUs on her tumblr, which are mostly text posts with a ficlet thrown in if she was inspired, and sometimes sprout their own fic on AO3, toss overboard what is too heavy to carry being the latest (and oh my god I’ve been in love with the couple councelling AU since the beginning I can’t describe how I felt when she uploaded that one to AO3!!)

→ Obviously I love all of these, but I have to talk about The Cygnets at Sundown, because I think this fic changed something in me a little bit. Not only did Shatou expand on Mandalorian culture and draw absolutely wonderful illustrations to go fic his fic, but he wrote and composed three different songs for it. Let me repeat that, you can actually go listen to recordings of them singing the songs they composed and wrote the lyrics to that they put in their fics. Like it’s an excellent fic and it made me cry at the end but I cannot explain with words how I felt when I realised he’d put up links for people to go listen to the songs the characters sing. I think I’m a little in love with this fic and honestly who would blame me. (and in a completely direction, Eggs and Milk is one of the only fics I’ve found that has good lactation without mpreg, which is harder to find than you’d think but also hotter than you might imagine, and there’s oviposition on top! what a blessing)

Obi-Wan keeps escaping. It's kind of a thing.

He files the names of those last away in the darkness of his mind to deal with later. Or, Obi-Wan gives Vader a blowjob while they're at a public event.

Everything interesting in the desert happened at night, at least in Anakin’s experience. The temperatures dropped with the setting of the suns and the darkness crept in, covering acts that would be revealed under Tatooine’s harsh daylight. Considering what people were willing to do in the light, the night hours were a dangerous time to be about. Anakin was one of the many factors that made them so. (AU where Qui-Gon never took Anakin off of Tatooine) OR, the one where Anakin gets a ready-made family dropped on him and handles the situation far better than anticipated.

→ as someone with skin problems seeing my favourite little guys taking care of each other’s skins was a specific kind of wonderful. I also liked Cascade Overload!

They zoom in to where General Kenobi’s eyes are fixed on General Skywalker’s ass. Again. A caption pops up: ‘FURTHER PROOF OF THE SECRET JEDI LOVE AFFAIR.’ In an effort to garner support for the men fighting the Republic's war, the clones are given permission to document their lives as they protect the galaxy alongside their Jedi generals. It goes about as well as can be expected.

→ also a fan of yesterday’s jam and all the better to love you with. When I first read No need to say goodbye I cried so hard, let me tell you, sometimes I think about rereading it because it’s so damn good but I think no, I’m not in the mood to cry right now, I’ll leave it for a good session of cathartic crying later (this is a compliment!). All the better to love you with is also exactly the kind of omegaverse you love to see, because why introduce a new gender system if no one’s going to have fun with it anyway?

→ Also a little in love with The letter but not the spirit and Deepens like a coastal shelf. Note that all of those (except All his Schrödinger’s cats) survive might not be your taste, since they more or less straddle the line with underage (and in the case of Deepens like a coastal shelf just completely go over it), it depends on the fic and your own limits. They’re tagged appropriately, make your own choices and all. I personally cannot get enough of the way they write Obi-Wan and sex scenes, and I love how they pick their titles.

Now onto individual fics I really like, which doesn’t mean I don’t like the rest of the authors’ fics, just that in those cases I either didn’t read almost everything else they wrote or managed to pick a favourite.

“On the night of the lunar eclipse, if you place seven different flowers under your pillow, you’ll dream of the other half of your soul—the person you’re meant to spend your life with.” The thought of finding out his true soulmate through a Force vision of some sort sent a thrill through his heart. Anakin was enamored by the very concept of lovers as two halves of the same soul, fitting together perfectly in almost every way imaginable as if they were made for one another. And while Anakin wanted almost more than anything else to know who that person was, he couldn’t fathom it being anyone but Obi-Wan.

→ one of the first Obikin fics I remember reading, and what a good introduction to the ship that was

• A Just Punishment by Achrya/Daiako (2 chapters, 8k)

Omega Padawans are always teamed up with alpha masters, who are given free reign to handle their padawans as they choose. Obi-Wan has always taken a lighter hand than most with Anakin, even when others thought he was being too lenient. Anakin knows, not that anyone ever asks him, that Obi-Wan's approach works just fine...even if sometimes he wishes his Master would put a hand or two on him sometimes. At least that's what he thought he wanted, until an undercover mission finds him saying something he shouldn't to someone he shouldn't, and that someone demands Obi-Wan punish him or else see months of work ruined.

→ another problematic fave but what can I say, the smut is very cool. Do read the notes just to be sure!

→ I have vague memories of this fic but the concept is hilarious and I remember it had good vibes. Also Aayla is in there and we all love her

After seven years training as Qui-Gon's Padawan, Anakin finally has questions that his Master can't answer. A specialist in force-user initiation and the erotic mysteries might be just what Anakin needs--but Kenobi is almost too good at his job.

→ When I realised I’d forgotten to write that one down on my first few passes to the list I was so offended at myself because that fic is just so !!!

There’s a long moment of silence, broken only by Anakin saying, voice still hoarse but distinctively Obi-Wan-esque, “What in sithhells is going on?” – Or, in which Anakin touches a dangerous force object and now him and Obi-Wan are trapped in each other’s bodies until something, or someone, can find a solution to their predicament. But before they can, they're both going to make some eye-opening discoveries about the other.

It began as most things with Anakin began—without Obi-Wan's knowledge, and against his will. Or it would have been, if Obi-Wan had ever thought to consider the possibility, which he hadn’t, because the possibility was patently insane. This, he had learned (over and over and over again, for as long as Anakin had been around), was little defense against whatever it was Anakin had done this time, as Anakin’s conception of what was sane and what wasn’t was rather far outside what was normal.

→ The one and only, the first Obikin fic I can remember reading (or at least the first one I downloaded to my phone) Beloved, very good memories, gave me a taste for Anakin with all sorts of fun kinks. Funfact, it took me a good year (that is to say I realised like, yesterday) what the [IASIP music] in the title meant :’) I thought it was the author’s way of sorting their fics or something

3) Yes okay thanks for pointing out the crossed out demon on Yu’s intro sheet!! Both of his parents are demons, (mother((Emiriko)) is a water demon, basically demons specifically adapted to living both on water and on land. father((Luka)) is a fire demon, adapted to living in lava and extremely hot places.) so it doesn’t really make sense for him not to be one. Instead, he uses potions (specifically made to not leave a magic scent/residue on the user) To hide his demon appearance, mainly his horns and tail, since its harder to hide those, however said potions do hide the rest of his demon features really well! (fangs, ears((which are normally like small elf ears and tipped in dark gray and black.)), etc.) i could talk all day about my boy, but for now im just gonna leave you with this.

1 - I'M GLAD YOU ENJOYED THE LEONA FIC !! it was also such a blast for me to write >:DD and that's...that's actually really touching :')) i'm kinda surprised that you fell for leona because of my fics and ahh saying that makes it sound unreal again-

but i can understand why some ppl choose to portray leona as someone who's just plain mean and lazy. bc that's exactly how he comes off. even after his overblot, he doesn't quite get the same wake up call that the others got. he didn't get the scolding like riddle, he didn't get the fact that his friends would always be there like azul did, and he most certainly didn't get the same emotional release that jamil. chapter 2's writing isn't the best twst writing out there, so it's easy to dismiss his character as just what he appears as. his flashback does give us some background on why he puts up such a mean and lazy front despite having potential, but well...some creators might prefer for him just to be that. i'm not here to critique them on how they portray him but it does make me kinda :') when i see that ppl don't like leona as much bc of stuff they've read around the fandom or bc they judge him too quick. n e ways enough abt leona we alr know how whipped i am for him-

HELLO! Okay, first, just finished reading the new chapter of Sleep Awake and AAA, I loved it so so so much! HONESTLY HOW DO YOU THIS? Congrats so so much on everything!!! Happy anniversary, and to many more!

Second, ahem- so I feel awkward asking questions like this… but I honestly was kinda wondering if you have advice for writers…? Not specific advice I guess, but just tips for how to actually stay motivated and focused to write, how to make things not seem rushed, how to plan things, idk, anything. You’re just so good at writing and I have nobody else to ask (lol imagine having no friends 😀).

the truth is, a lot of my motivation comes from my adhd and the fact that i hyperfixate on stuff. when i started sleep awake, i didn't have any kind of schedule or even really a plan — my updates in the beginning were extremely frequent because i had a few goals in mind that i wanted to get to. now it's a lot more like planning a real story with arcs and an independent plot, which is why updates are much less frequent. motivation has just never really been an issue with me — but i have struggled with motivation on a lot of my other works, so i get what you mean.

for me, i stick with sleep awake because i just love it. i think it's good to have a few solid ideas to base a story around — a specific scene or plot point you want to get to, something to build the story around. maybe you want a conversation between two characters, or you want character a to do something to character b and character c to find out about it. stuff like that really kept me going and made filling out the gaps in between te scenes i want a lot easier.

i can't stress this enough — plan your story!! it can be as detailed or nondescript as you like, but at least make a skeleton. in this plan, PUT IN THE SCENES YOU WANT TO WRITE!! stuff that motivates you!! and then fill in the gaps. that's the way i do it and it's what works for me. chapter 3 of the game specifically took a lotttt of planning because it's so canon-divergent - i remember i had to write out the whole murder scene, a plan for the trial, the truth bullets. planning stuff out like this also helps immensely with setting things up so they don't seem rushed!!

i try to sort of separate my story into 'segments', aka the chapters of the game, with each segment having a different role and arc for the reader. this way i can set up what their goal is going to be ahead of time — take the reader being suspected of rantaro's murder, for example. i made a plan for this to happen around when i was writing the fourth or fifth chapter of the story, so i could begin setting up the events that would lead everyone to the conclusion of suspecting the reader (like having miu send them to the warehouse where the shotput balls are, having shuichi think they overhead him and kaede's plan to catch the mastermind, a lot of little details that ended up making them look super guilty in the trial).

planning is super essential and i am Not a writer who plans. ever. i literally didn't make a plan for this story until like chapter five. now i do it before every chapter — i establish what the reader's arc will be this chapter, how it differs and grows from the last one, how their relationships with each character will change. knowing your plot points ahead of writing them gives you so much time to set them up so they conclude satisfyingly!!

WHEW okay this got. incredibly long and most of it is word-vomit but i hope it helped a little!! and remember what works for me may not work for you. BUT i wish u a lot of luck in ur writing, and i hope this could be of some help?? at all??

I honestly suck at describing fighting scenes so I'm writing them to get some practice so sorry if some things just seem off haha. Already working on part 4! Your head felt like it was spinning and for a moment everything was quiet as you processed the red headed's words. Your gaze was on the floor before they closed to process everything, a way for you to shut down everything around you while you think. They were right...Of course Bucky would know, he is a Super Soldier. You should've listened to him. You should've listened to Sam when he pointed out you never did jump like that before, he knew your training skills.

"Why would you do that?" You ask quietly, trying your best to not have your voice crack or quiver from your feelings.

"If you are going to take on Captain America you need to be ready, and now that he has taken the serum."

"Let me rephrase that” you pause. “Why would you do that without asking?!" Your gaze lifts as you take a step forward, anger taking control for a moment. "I don't want this! I don't know what I'll be capable of-"

"That will help you know what you can do," she says. "If you are truly good, you will be better. If you are not…"

"So this is a fifty-fifty game for you? Let's see if you are capable of hurting people unintentionally if not, congratulations you passed the test" you say sarcastically and roll your eyes.

"Again, it is temporary. We don't know how long it will last in your body."

"What if it doesn't go?"

The girl simply shrugs and puts her hoodie over her head, "We will find out sooner than later" she says before turning on her heel.

Your eyes look after the girl, you lean against the wall behind you and close your eyes, taking in a few deep breaths. You knew deep down you wouldn't hurt anyone, but the fact that the possibility was there… You felt like the boys were going to look different at you. Sam wouldn’t be as protective as he has been with you since day one, Bucky may not find comfort in you anymore because you have turned into a Super Soldier just like him. Let’s not forget that Zemo could try to kill you since according to him people with the Serum aren’t supposed to exist. Were you even considered one of those people even if apparently yours is just a prototype of a temporary chemical?

"Y/N…" Sam shouts from above before landing in front of you. "What the hell do you think you are doing?" He asks as he gets closer before he notices your demeanor. "What's wrong? I saw Karli…"

"She-" you trail off before you shake your head. "She did inject me with something, Sam…" he eyes you curiously. "She gave me a...some type of temporary version of the Serum…" you can see Sam's eyes darkening with anger. "She says it's only supposed to last a while, she isn't sure how long but…"

"Come here," Sam's wings get secured on his back before he pulls you into a hug. You always found comfort talking to Sam or his hugs. He wasn't very affectionate with people that weren't his family, but the time you have spent together brought you quite close.

Bucky runs up to the two of you, his blue eyes trailing over your form, reading your body language. "What did she do to her?" His jaw clenched as he looked at Sam.

"Karli injected her with a temporary Serum…" he says quietly as you let go of him. "Y/N, listen to me. You are not going to turn into Walker, we won't let you. You are nothing like him if that’s what you are afraid of..." He cups your face between his hands and you nod your head.

"I knew it," Bucky says, hands landing on his hips. "What's the plan?"

"We have to find Walker," you run a hand through your hair. "If this thing only lasts a few hours, we have to make it count" you say and look at Bucky and then Sam. “We have to use it to our advantage.”

"Sharon sent me Walker's location while getting here. Let's move."

Once you find Walker, Sam tries to talk to him into giving the shield but to no avail. The guy was obsessed with the title, the shield, everything that had to do with being Captain America.

"Don't go down that road. Believe me, it doesn't end well..." Bucky says once Walker tries to justify his actions.

"I'm not like you!" Walker says and Bucky's gaze shifts from the man to the floor. Rude.

"You will never be like him, or Steve," you say and take a step forward to the man. "You are lying to yourself about Lemar's killer. You know that man you killed was innocent, but you killed him anyway" you take another step. "You are pretending to be someone you will never be..." you pause. "You will never, ever, be Captain America. You are just some knockoff version."

The words trigger Walker and he is quick to rush your way, but you rush to him as well. You duck when he tries to punch you and manage to move away from him, moving behind his back and kicking him, sending him flying towards Sam.

Sam is quick to deliver a punch on the man's side, Bucky tries to hit him with his vibranium arm, but the man uses the shield and you flinch at the sound that echoes through the warehouse at the contact of vibranium against vibranium. He kicks Bucky to the other side against a column and you would lie if you didn't get scared at the reminder that that was how Lemar died. The impact knocked Bucky unconscious but he was still breathing. Sam reaches for the arm that has the shield but Walker brushes him away with a punch. You jump on the man's back, legs around his waist as you try to choke him with your arms.

The man starts walking backwards with you still on his back, hitting a wall before repeating the action a few times making you grunt at the pain on your back. You let go of his neck and fall from his back, he turns quickly, taking advantage that you were still processing the impact and tries to put the edge of the shield against your neck. “Why are you making me do this?!” He asks as he looks at you. You are struggling as you try to push him off, your hues looking into his defiantly.

“You. Don’t. Deserve. It!” You scream before pushing him off, he lands on his back and the shield lands next to him. “Sam!” You shout as you both rush for the shield. Walker quickly reaches for it and tosses it, sending Sam flying to a wall. The shield returns to the man and you glare at him.

“We could’ve been a team” Walker says as he stands up, straight posture as he walks towards you.

“Not a chance” you look at the shield and from the corner you can see Bucky is regaining consciousness. You run to Walker and when you get close you make a quick back flip, taking him by surprise which gives you a space to punch him right on his nose. “Wanted to do that for a while” you say with a smirk. You are about to throw the next but the man catches your arm, he was much stronger than you, his grip was too painful. He reaches for your wrist and twists it making you yelp and by that same hand, he holds you open to kick you, sending you a few feet back but you land on your knee and one leg stretched, hands supporting your balance.

Sam tries to take the shield with one of his gadgets, but Walker is stronger, even with Sam using his jetpack but with no luck. Walker brings him down and has Sam on his back. “Bucky, come on. We can take him now” you help Bucky up, Walker being too distracted with Sam trying to tear the wings off, and then you hear the screech of metal breaking, then hitting the floor. Walker reaches for the shield and you see him aiming for Sam's head. Bucky rushes from behind him and both of them fall a few feet away from you, you are quick to go to Walker and kick his ribs with all your strength.

Bucky lifts John up and gets him against the lifter. Sam moves to take the arm that had the shield strapped to and started pulling it off but Walker was holding onto it like his life depended on it, and it seemed like it did. You move to hold his other arm in case he even thought of punching Bucky to try to get free. The three of you struggled, even Sam with his jetpack strength couldn't take it off easily, but the cracking of bones and John's scream was all you needed to confirm that Sam got the shield off.

Bucky and you let go of him, both of you trying to catch your breath. "It's over John," Sam says as he holds the shield.

"It's mine!" And there he goes again. You run and tackle him, straddling his chest before delivering three quick punches, blood covering your knuckles, he pushes you off to the floor and gets on top of you quickly as his hands went around your neck. Bucky gets John off from you, flinging him toward Sam who was holding the shield and you flinch at the sound. The three men fall and stay down for a couple of seconds, Bucky being the first to move only to take a shield and throw it besides Sam before he walks away. You barely had the energy to move or call him, you just lay there looking at Sam. He picked up the shield and wiped some of the blood with his bare hands.

"Sam…" you whisper quietly as you stand up after a while.

"I'm okay…" his voice cracks as he holds onto the shield. "Let's go" he takes the hand you offer him to pull him up. You take a last glance at Walker who remains on the floor, glaring at the two of you and holding onto his broken arm before you walk away.

After everything, you went with Bucky to take care of Zemo and then decided to check on Sam. Bucky had to deliver him a box while you just wanted to check on the man that has helped you since day one. There is no way to explain how happy you were that Sam's boat was helping all of you to get distracted. Sam and Bucky worked with the boat while Sarah and you made sure everything was in order. All of this was giving you a much needed sense of normalcy that you haven't had in a while.

The day is settling in and the three of you were sitting on the boat, Sam staring at the box Bucky brought him as you all sipped on your drinks. No words spoken for a while, just enjoying the quiet for once.

"Well, gotta catch my flight tomorrow. Get a hotel room for the night…" Bucky says, standing to take his coat.

"I thought you two were leaving together?" Sam asks and you almost spill what was left of your drink.

"Nah, she is staying with you guys" Bucky says and you turn to him. "I heard you talking with Sarah" he shrugs and looks away.

"Then you would know I'm not staying, but of course you ignored the rest" you sip on your drink, rolling your eyes. You did say to the woman that you wanted to stay, so that was what Bucky heard, apparently he didn't listen to the part where you said you couldn't just leave him like that.

"Just stay here" Sam says to Bucky and you see the soldier's eyes light up almost instantly. "No PDA with Y/N, alright? You do whatever you have to do when you are back in New York."

"I don't see that happening" you mutter and drink the last sip of your beer.

"You two haven't talked, yet?"

"There isn't anything to talk about" you mutter into the bottle. There was so much you wanted to say, but it wasn't the time although things were...calm in a way.

"Agree…" And he agrees. Wow.

"Listen to me, the two of you. You have to sort this out. Y/N, you can't keep holding onto your feelings waiting for the right time, and you, Cyborg, you have to get your life back. You can multitask with your book and your life" Sam says. "It's obvious you two help each other out and everyone knows this. Steve knew it" your eyes shift to the floor at the mention of Steve.

"I can't take this talk again" you stand up and jump out of the boat, walking away.

"That is the exact opposite of what I'm trying to make you do, Y/N!" You hear Sam shout.

You were watching Sarah's kids play around the kitchen area, the kids making sound of hits while the smallest played with the shield. Bucky was a few feet away resting on the couch, so peacefully. The shield suddenly drops and you see him shift before opening his eyes. "Hey" he salutes and the kids are quick to put the shield back in place.

"Put it back. Hurry…" the oldest says before running outside. Bucky looks at them while smiling and there is something about his eyes...It looked like he missed something, longed for something...

"You are awake" you say and he smiles at you, an authentic Bucky smile. You hated how easily his smile could change your behavior.

"You are not mad anymore" he points out and you just roll your eyes.

"Don't push your luck" you say and walk to him after taking two beers, handing one to him. "I wasn't mad. I just didn't want to put my mind into that topic again…"

"Thanks" he says quietly and you sit at the end of the couch where his legs were, so he sits up to be by your side. "You know, that reminded me of Wakanda," he starts. "The kids playing around, waking me up," he chuckles.

"You miss Wakanda, don't you?" You say.

"Yeah…" he says quietly and takes a sip off the bottle. "I felt peace there. Actual calmness...Something like this..."

"I get it. Being away from the mess that New York can be, no Superhero problems, no missions, no conflicts...Things are just quiet," you explain. Silence fills the air for a moment.

"Y/N, I've been thinking about what Sam said...We can't ignore this anymore...But I don't know where to start," he says quietly. "I want this with you" your eyes lift to look at him, did he just…? "I want us to have a sense of a normal life. I know it's a long road..."

"I don't want you to feel pressured. That's not what I want," you shake your head. "I just want you to know I'm here for you, Buck. I will wait as long as it takes, until you are ready…" you look at him.

"I can't ask you that, Y/N. I know for sure it won't be forever, but it will take time."

"You think I waited all this time to give you up just like that?" Your body shifts to face him. "I won't lie, there was a time I thought that there was no point in trying..." you avoid his gaze.

"Hey, no…" his fingers reach for your chin and make you face him, his warm hand cups the side of your face. "If you give me a little time, we can sort this whole thing out…"

He places the bottle of beer in the table next to him, not moving his hand away from the position it was in your cheek before turning to you. His thumb brushes your skin, his blue eyes taking you in and you can't help but do the same. His blue eyes, his scruff, his perfect face, his jawline, his lips, the way his tongue wetted those kissable lips...

His hand moved to the back of your neck to bring you in for a kiss. This wasn't like the first kiss which was a simple lip lock. No. This was a full kiss, instantly feeling his tongue brushing your lips. The kiss was slow and you felt bad about how desperate you needed more of his lips. He pulls away after a few seconds, your eyes open slowly to find him looking at you.

"What?" You ask quietly.

"Nothing, I just...I haven't kissed anyone like that since…" he trails off, he gets comfortable and rests on his side on the couch, his hand dropping from the back of your neck to his side.

"Didn't expect you to be charming every girl around you with your Winter Soldier mode" you say and he chuckles. You loved this. You loved that his whole body language was calm and relax, and he was smiling. "Although you did charm me, but I met you in between so it doesn't count."

He chuckles, not saying anything about it, sipping on his beer. "At what time is our flight?"

"At night, we have time…" you say as you eye him.

"We should tell Sam we are already talked," he says and you smirk.

"We should."

Bucky stands from the couch, taking his beer with his vibranium arm before reaching for yours. You smile at him before taking his hand.

Later that day you are sitting on the stairs of the front porch while Sam and Bucky talk and toss the shield around. You haven't told them yet, but you still felt the rush, like the Serum was still in your body, but not as strong as it was in the beginning. You can hear the conversation faintly from your spot, so you continued scrolling through your phone while listening.

"It's just, that shield's the closest thing I've got left to a family, so when you retired it, it made me feel like I had nothing left." Your heart shatters at his words. This was the first time you have heard Bucky talk about family, and not mentioning Steve, but it wasn't long until he mentioned him and his book. "I just figured that if it worked for him, then it'd work for me." He looks at you after those words, you can see him from the corner of your eye but you continue to scroll on your phone.

"I understand, man. But Steve is gone" Sam pauses. "This might be a surprise but, it doesn't matter what Steve thought. You gotta stop looking to other people to tell you who you are." The shield comes back to Bucky and he catches it swiftly. "Plus, that girl right there?" There goes Sam, trying to play cupid. "That girl would jump off a bridge if you told her, man. If this shield is the closest you got to a family? Maybe it's time you start your own" he says and pats the soldier in his flesh arm. "But you gotta talk it out, and slow steps. You are new again to all of this."

"I know," Bucky says and he looks at you as you walk to them. "That's what scares me, Sam. Besides Steve, no one has looked out for me as much as she does" he says, his eyes not looking away from you. "I don't want to hurt her, Sam, and I feel like I might while I get back on having a life…"

"Let me ask you, are you still having those nightmares?"

"All the time...It means I remember. It means a part of me is still there. Which means a part of the Winter Soldier's still in me…" he tosses the shield and Sam catches it.

You reach them when they are talking bout the amends, the way Bucky should approach things to get proper closure. Then the two clasp their hands together and remain like that for a while.

"Good talk" Bucky says and Sam chuckles.

"You know Karli won't quit."

"Just call us when you have a lead and we will be there, Sam." You jump in. "I'll still come out to visit."

"Stay safe. I know you will be in good hands, metal and flesh" you have to laugh as he pulls you into a hug. "Take care of him, look after him. I know he will do the same for you."

"I know, Sam" you hide your face in his shoulder. "Thank you."

"Love you, kiddo. If you need me, call me."

After a few hours of flight, you get to the JFK Airport. You look for your keys in your bag as you walk, Bucky right besides you. Ever since you have landed he has been quiet, you couldn't guess what he was thinking of, but you let him be. Once outside, you slow your walk and he looks around before looking at your keys and then shifting his gaze. "So…" you say and purse your lips. "Um, do you want me to give you a ride to your house?"

"Uh, no. It's okay. It's late and I don't want to bother you."

"Buck, you live a few minutes away from my place. Let me take you."

"No really its…" you are glaring at him, and he sighs. "Alright, fine." You grin and start walking to the parking lot.

"You are staying at your family's house in Brooklyn, right?" You ask him.

"Yeah…" he looks around the parking lot that was barely lit except for a few dim lights here and there, and you feel him get closer to you, almost protective and you can't help but smile at the action.

Once you park in front of his house, you bite your lip as you put your car in parking.

"This is it.."

"This is it…" he nods his head. "I would invite you inside but I don't think my place is ready to have any visitors" he says, running a hand on the back of his neck.

"Don't worry about it" you wave it off. "We will keep in touch, Karli won't take long to show up again..."

"Uh, yeah. I just have to make a visit first and then we can start, you know, figuring things out" he offers you an apologetic smile.

"You don't have to do it alone, you know?" He nods his head. How were you supposed to say goodbye to him? A kiss on the cheek? On the lips? A hug?

"I'll see you later" he says and you can see he is hesitating as much as you are. "Uhm, I should…" he shifts in his seat before opening the door and getting out, pulling his bag with him. "Text me when you get home?"

"Will do" you say and he closes the door of the car, he gives you an awkward wave with the softest smile before he takes two perfect steps backwards and turning to walk to his house.

You are lying down on your living room couch watching TV when your phone indicates a new message. Your fingers lazily reach for it, unlocking the screen to read the message.

Bucky: Do you want to go out or something?

do you find you run out of steam once you reach the halfway point of your fics or does writing the next chapter before posting the one before it help you

okay these are 2 separate things. i'll address the question and then why i write ahead/post the way i do. this is also focused on multi-chapter fics obvs, specifically long-form (5+ chapters) ones. under a cut because of length.

1) no, i don't think I have ever run out of steam in the middle, although whenever i finish a fic i'm always ready to be done with it and move onto the next project.

when i start a new fic, there is a burst of initial inspiration/excitement for the plot, world setting, etc, that makes the first few chapters (usually 2-3) come to me faster. then i kind of "settle in" to the fic and reach what i would refer to as its midpoint for inspiration and writing speed (although my personal life also effects both regardless of where i am in a project).

usually the next-to-last or last 2ish chapters are the hardest to write because at that point im looking ahead to my next project and getting excited over it, i've already written most if not all of the big moments in the fic that i was excited for, ive been on the project for a while so my interest is waning, and endings also feel weighty because i want to stick the landing so it's hard to make myself do it. this is of course variable: i was super excited for the reveal in chapter 9 of ASGNE, so i had plenty of energy for it and was only anxious about finishing things off nicely in the epilogue.

2) writing the next chapter before posting is actually an editing technique. at first i was updating every day, so writing ahead wasn't really an option and varied - i could be a few chapters ahead, or finishing it just as i posted it. then i switched to generally updating twice a week, which usually let me be at least a little ways into the next chapter (or sometimes multiple chapters ahead) when i did the final edit and posted the "current" chapter. because of this, i knew where the story was heading, if it had stuck to my outline, all the subplots that had developed, etc. it allowed me to make sure everything flowed and was foreshadowed properly, but then i abandoned the schedule.

to ensure i was always excited about what i was working on, i would post it as soon as i finished writing/editing it. i switched to finishing the rough draft of the next chapter before i posted the last one because in chapter 4 of iHTWcyn i realized there was something i wanted to do that would come out of nowhere, because it hadn't been foreshadowed in previous updates. i wrote myself into a corner, basically. i actually think that chapter came out better for it, but i realized that wouldn't always be the case, so i switched to my current method.

now, i do the rough draft of the 1st chapter, and then if i feel unhappy with it/a scene, etc, i go back and work on editing/rewriting those parts until i feel like it just needs a final edit. at this point, i move onto the 2nd chapter and do my rough draft of it, once again only fixing anything glaring. i then go back and do the final edit of the 1st chapter and post it. often, to carry on the story's momentum, i'll then reread and do a first pass edit of the 2nd chapter and just keep going when i reach the end, starting to write the rough draft of the 3rd chapter. after that is done, i do the final edit of and post the 2nd chapter, etc, repeating until the end of the fic. most chapters get multiple editing passes (i also usually start a writing day by rereading from the beginning of the chapter, editing a bit as i go, until i reach the end of what i wrote and begin writing again). often, i wait until ive done the first rough draft of both the next-to-last and final chapter before i post the second-to-last chapter to make sure the finale comes together as well.

holding onto one chapter allows me to go back and adjust for any story changes that took place while writing the next chapter (i outline most of my fics to a degree, but im a plantser when it comes down to it and i always leave myself open to changing or adding a plot based on how the fic is developing or new ideas i have). it helps the final product be better, and since im only one ahead (usually), i don't start losing motivation because it's not going to be that long before people see what im working on. holding back more also would start getting confusing, especially in longer fics. when i get even two chapters ahead, going back and doing the final edit of the "current" chapter can get confusing because i forget where the characters are at in the story, when they know already, what was "recently" said in the chapter before, etc (i was two chapters ahead in knifepoint for a bit and had this issue, though that ended up working out in my favor when i got sick and couldn't write for awhile).

Last chapter explains so much..........and it hurts. Like why Sue feels so ashamed of sleeping with Sam. Why she didn't tell Emily about him. Why seeing Emily with him hurts like that. This is insane, I mean it in the best possible way, because it's brilliant. I don't know about their one night stands, but Sue said it I forgot which chapter it was, but when she was writing and rewriting the message to Emily, she said because all I can think about is you and I wanted to forget. That's why she slept with him. More than once. And it feels bad. Daaaammmmn. Tbh I'm scared to think you intend to reveal to us this part of the story too because it's gonna be dark like a bit too dark I'm afraid. Sam is not a good time for Sue, like not at all. Or at least that's how I read it.

Also, Emily and Sue talking so much while having sex, why does this feel so much like them. I mean yeah, there's so much raw emotion and that's when the words they are afraid to say come the most easily. And then it's almost easy to brush it off and pretend it didn't happen. That's what Sue did. All the things she said that were so sincere, that she hasn't slept with anyone else for an year almost, like probably since she and Emily started doing this. The very next morning, she was like no, I didn't have the right to get angry, it's okay let's not talk about it anymore, I'll just go out for a bit. But it's so not okay. And you ending the chapter with the words "of course I'll come back", like am I a joke to you jfhdjshdg

Also, them talking about serious things and at the same time saying the most casual things like which floor was it, do you want water, thanks etc etc brilliant again. I don't think I've ever enjoyed dialogue only as much as I did with this chapter. Because you could tell what they were doing only by what they were saying.

“No, I just thought I’d hover near your stomach for a while.” 😂😂😂 so many things made me laugh, so many things made me cry. Helen - for a moment there I thought she has the hots for you.... hmmmm very interesting. Emily not telling her about Catherine hurt as much as Sue not telling Emily about Sam if not even more so. And I don't mean only because it's Sue's pov, but more like because there is this vulnerability and this almost hopefulness that maybe without talking about it, they'll just find themselves on the same page, Emily will just understand her without words. Ooof, that's it just big oof. I know I already wrote one long message and now again, but I just want to talk about this, because it's amazing and I love it. Thank you!

Notes: im novel bias for so many reasons but this was absolutely amazing as a drama setting bc it /is/ closer to the novel setting bc shen wei was actually awake those 10,000 years so that desperation and intensity of novel!sw is closer here - really great read
