This week couldn’t get any worse. His father had gotten into a terrible car accident and suffered a heart attack. The girl he had been interested in completely blew him off. He lost his car keys. He had to attend an emergency meeting, where he defended his spot as the successor of his father’s pharmaceutical company. Not to mention he spilled hot, steaming coffee all over his favorite suit that morning.
That’s enough suffering for a week, right? But life seemed to have more in store for Park Jimin.
Just as he was storing some important company files in a random cereal box—it was his favorite hiding spot, because who would ever dare to look in a cereal box?—his phone began to ring. He placed the cereal box back into his pantry and frowned when he recognized the phone number as the hospital’s.
“Hello?”
“Is this Park Jimin?”
“Yes.”
“I’m sorry for being the bearer of bad news, but your father just passed away.”
“I’ll be right there.”
**
Room 511.
Why did his room have to be on the fifth floor? You huffed as you hurried to put on some scrubs and a hospital mask. Careful as to not step on the nurse you just knocked out, you made your way out the door and immediately met your partner’s curious eyes.
“Not the nurse outfit I originally had in mind, but oh my, you look so innocent!” Jungkook chuckled at your appearance, resisting the urge to snap a quick picture of you to send to the guys to laugh at later. “So cute-“
“Can you not right now?” You interrupted with a hiss. “We have a person to kidnap!”
“You act as if we haven’t done something like this before.”
Jungkook rolled his eyes at you, falling into step beside you. He handed you a tiny ear piece and you took it from him, easily positioning it into your ear. The two of you were currently in the basement of the hospital on the side where old equipment and random pieces of furniture were often stored in.
“Jungkook, start heading to your position. [Y/N], take the stairs. There’s too many people on the elevator.” Yoongi instructed to the both of you through your ear pieces. He had hacked into the hospital’s surveillance system to guide you and Jungkook and make things run smoother.
“Got it.” You replied as you parted ways with Jungkook and opened the door that led you to the stairwells.
A few minutes later, you had made it to the fifth floor. You bumped into a couple people on your way there, but of course, none of them paid you any attention other than a courteous smile for the brave nurse who had taken the dreadful stairs instead of the elevator.
Your eyes scanned the area. To your left, was the resource and information desk. A single clerk occupied the station at the moment and she was too preoccupied on her phone to even spare you a glance. Two nurses were walking down the hall, one of them stepping into a room. There was more security than usual among the halls and the waiting room was close to empty. That was no surprise to you, considering there was an important CEO in one of the rooms on this floor.
But what did surprise you was the noise coming from your right. It was a mixture of strict orders, creaking of a bed, and worn out wheels against tile. You turned your head just in time to realize that the noise was coming from room 511, where a doctor and two nurses ushered out a hospital bed occupied by a motionless figure that was covered by a thin hospital sheet.
“Take it to the morgue. The son should be here shortly.” You heard the doctor inform the two nurses.
Muttering a curse to yourself, you approached the room anyway only to confirm that the room was indeed empty and the person you were ordered to kidnap was already taken by death.
“It seems to me that we’re not the only ones here.” You whispered just loud enough for Yoongi and Jungkook to hear.
“Seems like you’re right. I just spotted a few of them. Stay alert. They’re after something.”
“After what?”
“I don’t know but it’s in our best interested to find it first.”
You nodded to yourself, determined to manage this new task successfully. If you couldn’t at least do this right, you knew just how pissed Namjoon would be, especially when he finds out that they were also involved in this. Unfortunately for you, your tight knit family was undergoing a tough time and on the verge of falling apart from the recent loss of two important members. Others currently saw you as easy prey, so any kind of information you can get about your enemy’s agenda was of extreme value to you.
A sharp knock snapped you out of your sidetracked thoughts.
“Excuse me?”
You turned around to face a dark-haired young man who reeked of money. He had to be Park Jimin. The CEO’s son. You had seen him many times before on tabloids and magazines and as he stood in front of you, you came to the conclusion that pictures didn’t do him justice.
“Can you please show me where I can find my father?”
His voice came out smoother and calmer than you expected and although he seemed to be okay, his eyes told a different story. They were puffy and red and as you contemplated on what to reply with, you noticed that his eyes were watering again.
“Please.” He added, slowly losing his resolve as he stepped closer to you. His lips were pursed into a tight line to keep himself from frowning.
You reminded yourself that death was not an everyday occurrence for someone like him, and managed to frown in sympathy, wondering if he knew about the risky business his father was involved in. Perhaps if he did, he wouldn’t be so upset over his death.
“I’ll happily show you where your father is.” A new voice joined and your body tensed up as you recognized it almost immediately. Jinyoung.
He stood tall and proud, a smug smirk tugging at his lips. He was still annoyingly handsome and you wanted to wipe that smirk off his face with one of your favorite daggers. The last time you had seen him was months ago when he shot your stomach, narrowly missing your organs. You almost didn’t survive that one.
Looks like I just found what they’re after.
“I’m sorry, but you aren’t authorized to do that.” You replied as you stepped forward to be closer to the bewildered Jimin. “Seeing as you aren’t immediate family, I’m going to ask you to step outside.”
Jinyoung chuckled. Whether he recognized you or not, you couldn’t tell yet. “I’m going to give you ten seconds to leave the room.” He told you as he pulled out a gun, aiming it straight at your head and clicking the gun safety off to scare you away.
“What is going on?” Jimin asked with wide eyes, staring back and forth between the two of you. The gun may not have scared you but it certainly did scare him. You were expecting him to run away or make an attempt to escape. Instead, he slowly and cautiously moved to stand in front of you.
“8…7…”
How sweet, you thought with a slight roll of your eyes. You highly doubted he’d be able to defend you properly against someone as skilled as Jinyoung, but it’s the thought that counts, right?
Removing your mask from your face, you smiled in the most courteous manner and lightly shoved Jimin aside so you could move forward and toward Jinyoung. It’s not the first time you’ve had a gun aimed at your head and it certainly wouldn’t be your last.
“[Y/N]!” Jinyoung grinned at the sight of you, forgetting about his countdown. “I’m a bit disappointed but can’t say I’m surprised. How’s your stomach?”
“How’s your girlfriend?”
It was a low blow and you knew it but you couldn’t find yourself to care at the moment. He had the upper-hand in this situation and you needed to desperately distract him with anything for just a moment. Your plan worked.
Jinyoung’s grin faded away, recognition of what your family had done to his girlfriend flashing in his eyes. The gun tightened in his grip and although it was aimed at your head, he was too distracted by his own anger to shoot it. Besides, if he wanted you dead, he would’ve shot you the moment he saw you.
You used his anger to your advantage and grasped onto the barrel part of his revolver, pulling him forward. He was too slow to be able to react properly. In three seconds, you had managed to strike his nose with the palm of your free hand and disarm him successfully. You heard the satisfying sound of crackling cartilage followed by a groan.
You threw the gun to the side, making sure it was far away from Jinyoung’s grasp. You’ve never been a fan of them. You much rather preferred to use your own hands or small knives to fight your enemies with.
Jinyoung scowled, his face contorting and causing his broken nose to bleed out more profusely. “I’m trying my best to be polite here, Sweetheart. But if you don’t hand Scaredy Cat over to me, Bangtan will be mourning over the loss of another member.”
“Politeness doesn’t suit you.” You told him with a scoff. You were the one who had the upper-hand now. “But the color red sure does.”
Jinyoung snorted. Your eyes left his for a split second to make sure Jimin hadn’t escaped and in that split second, Jinyoung landed a punch on your jaw.
“Not my face, you idiot.” You glowered, realizing too late how much of a hypocrite you sounded.
You managed to dodge his next blow and grabbed his arm, pulling him into you and turning him around. You hopped onto his tall frame, using one hand to press against his fresh wound, causing him let out another groan in pain. You wrapped your free arm around his neck and squeezed, angling his head in a certain way. Jinyoung knew what you were trying to do and his fingers clawed at your arm, trying to pry it off but his attempts were futile. He soon fell limp in your arms, sending you both tumbling to the floor.
Not wanting to waste any more time, you hopped back to your feet and averted your attention back to Jimin.
He stood in the middle of the room, the words he was dying to say stuck in his throat and the immense fear evident in his eyes. Your eyes lowered down to his trembling hands and you were pleasantly surprised to see he had Jinyoung’s gun in his grip.
“Smart man.” You said. “Follow me…if you want to stay alive.”
Jimin had no reason to trust you and something in his gut told him not to, but his gut was also telling him to stay far away from that man who had just threatened to kill you. He decided to go with the lesser evil and in that moment, it just so happened to be you.
“Who-who are you? What is going on-on? Did you kill him?” He struggled to choke out as he followed you out of the room.
“No. I just knocked him out.” You reassured him, ignoring the rest of his questions.
“[Y/N], there’s more of them. Three men coming to you from your right.” Yoongi’s voice rang through your ears.
You sighed as you contemplated what to do. Grabbing Jimin’s free hand, you led him into the next hospital room and shoved him inside. Judging by his petrified state, you knew he would be nothing but a hindrance to you.
He stopped you before you could shut the door. “Wait, take the gun!”
“You need it more than I do.” You protested, shutting the door in his face and leaving him with no other choice but to wait.
**
Jimin was relieved to find the room empty, otherwise it’d only make his situation even more awkward.
Inhale. Exhale.
He tried to control his breathing as he rested his head against the door. “Just when I thought my week couldn’t get any worse, my father is dead and I’m-I’m-“
A bloodcurdling scream interrupted him. It was shortly followed by a gun shot and even more screams. Jimin began to panic, worrying over whether that was your scream. He then stopped himself from worrying, because for all he knew, you could also be the bad guy. Maybe, it’d be best if it was your scream and that, that meant the police were here and about to rescue him.
What was actually seconds felt like hours as he waited and waited, tears beginning to cloud his vision.
His frantic thoughts were forced to come to a stop as the door finally opened, revealing you. He didn’t know whether to feel relieved or disappointed but he didn’t have much chance to contemplate it as he was being roughly pulled along by you through countless of corridors and stairs, at times barely dodging bullets that were being shot at the both of you. He could’ve sworn one had managed to graze your arm yet you continued on as if it were a mere paper cut.
The two of you had finally made it out of the hospital and into a vacant lot that was no doubt off limits to the public. You could hear the faint sound of police sirens and was desperate to get out before they spotted you.
“Jungkook, I’m here!”
Right as Jimin was about to ask who Jungkook was, a black car pulled up beside the two of you. You knew Jinyoung’s men were right behind you, so without wasting anymore time, you shoved Jimin in the back seat hastily and hopped on right after. It wasn’t until then that you allowed yourself to take a breather.
You had made it out alive.
“What was taking you so long?” Jungkook asked, his eyes meeting yours briefly through the mirror as he brought up a drink to his lips. You knew him well enough to be able to read the expression in his eyes but you weren’t moved enough to care about his slight concern over you and instead glared at him.
“What?”
“Why the heck do you have a chocolate shake?”
“You were taking so long.” Jungkook shrugged as he sped up the car, directing his attention back onto the road.
“Some of has have to actually work, you know.” You huffed in annoyance, crossing your arms. “I always do the dirty work.”
“I’m sorry. I can’t hear your whining over how good this milkshake is.”
Jimin watched the two of you in disbelief, his eyebrows knitting together as he tried to process what just happened and what is currently happening. “You knocked out a man with your bare hands, almost died a handful of times and are covered in blood—which I highly doubt is all yours—and you’re upset over a damn milkshake?”
“Yeeeeaaah.” Jungkook drawled on annoyingly and you would’ve smacked him in the face if he wasn’t in the process of trying to lose Jinyoung’s men, who were pursuing you in their own cars.
You took a deep breath, mustering up all the remaining strength you had left and turned to face Jimin properly. “Listen here, Jimmy.”
“It’s Jimin.”
“Jimothy.” You smiled in such a sweet way it made him sick. “I get shot at just about every day and have almost died countless amount of times for me to be upset over it.”
“But you killed a man!” Jimin exclaimed incredulously, referring to the dead body he almost tripped over as soon as you had dragged him out of the hospital room.
“Three actually. But who’s counting?”
You were a bit delighted by the reaction you got out of him, but it soon morphed into annoyance as the appalled look on Jimin’s face refused to leave and his judgmental eyes kept piercing into you. An awkward silence had ensued. A couple minutes passed by and you could no longer take his harsh stare.
“There’s seven billion people in this world! I did the world a favor. Get over it.” You snapped, ignoring the wary look Jungkook sent you.
“Great, I’m stuck in a car with a psychopath.” Jimin groaned as he leaned his head back against the seat, running his hand down his face. Taking a deep breath, he glanced at the man who was driving. “Please tell me you’re different.”
“Sorry, kid.” Jungkook replied, smirking when he saw Jimin’s nose scrunch up in distaste at the nickname. He doubted he was younger than the boy driving. “I’m just as sane as she is.”
All Jimin remembered next was a harsh blow to the face and then his world went black.
