Orphans in ALL of their lives (usually by their own hands) Gretel -> Arte -> Ney Hansel -> Pollo -> Lemy Eventually they get adopted by an evil cannibal (who ate them once, but that's okay) and go on adventures throughout the multiverse.

Anne Shirley Cuthbert (Anne of Green Gables)

She was abandoned at 3-months old and spent over the next decade of her life serving a variety of homes with toxic environments. Despite this, she maintains a bright demeanor and always remembers to dream. It is this crucial trait that brings light into the lives of the Cuthberts when they adopt her. Additionally, she's incredibly intelligent and knows a variety of skills, such as taking care of the sick that others do not know how to treat. Overall, I believe she is a lovely, bright, optimistic character.
