I’m both surprised but not surprised if that makes sense ? I’m surprised there was this amount of people willing to wait things out and possibly give the game a shot—I was expecting much more harder no’s or petty yesses lol

Drama aside, I don’t want this to come across as I am trying to dissuade people from playing, and I’ve agreed with a few positive points people have added (specifically that the story’s framing is unique and could be a fun set up for the story). From a character and style perspective, this is not what I think of when a game advertises itself as a “monster lovers dream”—seeing as there has been zero monster designs actually shown to us.

Do I think there’s potential they’re holding off on the surprise—much like with the courtiers? Yes I do. Do I think the designs will be good based on what we’ve seen so far? No I don’t. 😘 Having been in The Arcana fandom for this long and seeing the MANY shifts in leadership/developers, I do not trust this group of artists and writers anymore than I did when they wrote for the game. This is not a personal attack (as in general I’ve seen people argue), this is my critique of their art and business practices. Sometimes I just don’t enjoy their vision, and that’s okay. Just like it’s okay if you DO enjoy it and are excited for it.

To make a long mother fucking story short: I’ll most likely pick up the game and play it with VERY low expectations, but I am excited (and also dreading LMAO) to see what new fandom will sprout from this and also how not being tied to a parent company will affect the storytelling and art direction for these specific artists. Without the limitations of a corporation, will they ACTUALLY be successful in a way that surpasses the Arcana?? Will they be able to do what they couldn’t do with that IP?? So far, the one thing they did was remove ANY woman LI (Being nonbinary is not Diet Woman—so don’t even fucking go there with me 😌), so we can see why I’m less than hopeful they’ll actually rise to this challenge 🤷🏻🤷🏻🤷🏻🤷🏻🤷🏻🤷🏻
