“Come on Matt.”

Matt shakes his head, throws his dreadlocks over his shoulder as he pins her with a look.

“You know I love you Bree, but I have to draw a line when you start listening to the random words of your old man’s crazy rantings.”

She rolls her eyes, slams the letter down and gives him a look.

“I’ll have you know, my old man has never been wrong, even with all of his random rants. And more than that, we both know the Magic in the Ocean, and the Guidance of the Stars. You don’t grow up on the Edge and not hear about that.”

Matt raises a brow, unimpressed.

“And we both know those are just stories. Between the two of us, we have traveled through more water than anyone else and neither of us have found even a small hint as to where the Stars hide.”

“That’s true but Matt, I was looking through some of the old man’s research last night-”

“That can’t be good.”

“-and I found something interesting.”

She grabs a book, flips it open to one of the many bookmarks and throws it down for her friend to inspect.

“Right here, in the maps my dad used to draw.”

Matt glances down at the book, takes a second look. He shakes his head, swipes at the pages like they might make more sense.

“This isn’t a real map, we’ve gone through these a million times.”

“Yes, but what if,” she leans forward, her eyes glancing around suspiciously before she whispers to Matt, “they weren’t?”

Matt blinks at her.

“What?”

She stands back, taps at the book excitedly.

“What if my old man wasn’t completely crazy?”

“We both know that he was.”

“Fair point, but what if all these fantasy lands and magical beings were real and my old man just had gotten to them, to the Land of Adventure? Maybe he got to Ursa Major, and she led him to the Aisles of the Angels!”

Matt holds his hands up, gestures to her to back up.

“Aisles of Angels- I thought we agreed that we wouldn’t base anything on that letter! It was the ramblings of a dying man on his last leg! You promised you wouldn’t obsess about it!”

She waves away his concern, digs around her bag until she pulls out the letter.

“No no, I told you I wouldn’t take his words to heart. But, if he wasn’t crazy, is he was actually onto something, if the Aisles are actually real-”

“There not!”

“But how do we know! Neither of us have gone out that far!”

Matt throws his hand up in frustration.

“Because there is nothing out there! Just eternal fog and random storms! You know this! People go there to meet their maker, Bree, come on!”

Bree shakes her head, Matt seeing the way her eyes sparkle as she ignores his comments.

“But what if there is something else?”

He groans, places his hands down and pins her with a look.

“What else could be out there?”

“Orion.”
