“Whoa, whoa that’s not where that goes according to the diagram.”
Eddie peered around the stack of boxes he was holding, watching as Buck directed Hen and Chim who were carrying in one of the new displays. Chim set his end down, smacking his gum as he glanced around the shop.
“Alright, who gave the kid a clipboard?”
Everyone groaned aloud, Eddie sheepishly admitting that he was the one who’d given Buck said clipboard; he didn’t understand the problem.
Chim promptly reached out to snag the clipboard from Buck, everyone signing in relief.
“Second rule of working with Buck is to never give him a clipboard.”
Buck furrowed his brows together, crossing his arms over his chest.
“What’s the first rule?”
Chimney looked around to the others, Bobby answering for everyone.
“Don’t let Buck—Buck.”
Eddie didn’t quite understand that one either, though he got the jest of it; Buck was known to be reckless and not one to follow the rules, Eddie getting firsthand knowledge of that a few more times than he would’ve liked. The others got back to work while Buck stayed where he was, frown still in place. He’d only given Buck the clipboard so that he didn’t risk cutting himself doing any of the more strenuous jobs, though maybe Eddie was more honed in on Buck than the others; he was protective, ok?
“C’mon, I’ve got something else for you.”
Buck followed Eddie into the back where Eddie placed the boxes on the floor, opening one up to show Buck what was inside.
“We need to sort and fold these into stacks so they fit on the shelf.”
Buck nodded, moving to take one of the t-shirts out, Eddie waiting for Buck to see the design.
“Eds, this is—it’s perfect. I uh, I love it.”
“Yea, me too. That was a great idea to have Chris draw it, Buck; he loved it.”
Buck continued to stare at the design, Eddie smiling to himself. He’d finally gotten up the nerve to ask Chris if he could draw up a sketch for marketing purposes, figuring it was the perfect time considering Chris had been drawing a lot more since the tsunami. Chris had easily agreed, handing Eddie over the picture in no time. The drawing had a surfboard in the middle, surrounded by a stick figure kid (presumably Chris) who had red glasses with crutches under his arms, a firefighter stood on the other side (presumably Buck) with a bandage wrapped around one of the legs; the caption above it read: Everyone can surf.
Eddie found the right size before tossing it to Buck. “Here, first one goes to you.” Buck started to reach into his pocket, Eddie quickly waving him off. “It’s on the house. Besides, I think the person whose part of the design gets a discount.”
Buck gave him a shy smile before stripping off his shirt—Eddie casually taking in a breath for his bare skin—and placing the one with Chris’s design over his toned frame. “How does it look?”
“Perfect.”
