she doesnt know what to think anymore, but she hopes to whatever higher power there may be that it isnt a prophecy.

it was easy to say she was dreaming in hindsight, but really, she didnt know she was dreaming until she woke up back in the medicine den. to her, she wasnt dreaming. it felt.. real. she could feel the sluggish effects of the heatstroke she had, and the warmth on her pelt from the sunlight, and each breath she took. she felt her throat get sore from the guttural scream of rage she let out. but it wasnt real, of course, because she woke up. none of those horrible things happened because she woke up.

except, was it really all a dream if she saw what she thought wasn't real, right in front of her?

that first encounter sent her spiraling- was her mother right all along? does starclan really exist, and they're warning her of her brothers death? asking her to prevent her brothers death? why else would her nightmare of all things seem to have some truth to it? it was an easy line of thinking, but one that didnt add up under scrutiny- bluebell always talked about starry fields, vague riddles, and seeing dead loved ones. this didnt tick any of those boxes. it was not starclan, it was not a prophecy.

but then, how? she still tried to justify it to herself, in some way that made sense. okay, maybe some of the cats are real, but only because she saw glimpses of them on patrols somehow and her subconscious decided to make them evil for whatever reason. they arent actually evil, and they wouldnt actually kill whimsy. the cat who killed whimsy wasnt real. he wasnt real.

but he was real. she would recognize that scent anywhere, it was seared into her brain through pure hatred. and now another lay dead in front of her. like whimsy. he could kill whimsy. he will kill whimsy. he'll kill all of them. but not if she can stop it. she has to stop it. she has to. she has to.
