En el futuro, la humanidad se expandió a otras regiones del sistema solar, logrando colonizar sus planetas cercanos gracias a estaciones espaciales y bases militares. En aquellas comunidades humanas, grupos de influencia gobiernan los planetas y lunas, colonizados con tecnología avanzada, sirviendo como centros de producción y comercio. Entre estos grupos, una entidad secreta llamada "Nébula" destacaba por sus innovaciones en biotecnología y cibernética. Su último avance, el Proyecto Doppelgänger, prometía un futuro donde la conciencia humana podía proyectarse en cuerpos cibernéticos, ofreciendo la promesa de la inmortalidad y habilidades mejoradas que simplificarían aún más sus vidas. Entre estos, tantos seres humanos que habitan estos lugares del espacial, está el ex agente Stefan Rizen, que presenciaba la cúspide de esta revolución tecnológica. Había sido seleccionado para participar en el Proyecto Doppelgänger, un honor reservado para unos pocos. Pero Stefan no era ingenuo; sabía que las corporaciones siempre tenían segundas intenciones. Ahora escapa, como fugitivo, su misión es huir para mañana exponer la verdad. Durante su huida, se sumerge en el submundo, callejones y casas amontonadas en lo profundo de las urbes metropolitanas, en un día lluvioso, mientras se guarda de la lluvia, y del frío que su cuerpo cibernético no siente. Es agarrado misteriosamente por alguien y golpeado para quedar inconsciente, aunque esto era un mecanismo de defensa que su cerebro tiene para mantener la integridad de la máquina. En ese transcurso de inconsciencia, el sistema operativo de su mente, hace revisión de los archivos que conoce Stefan y de los sucesos. Al despertar, se encuentra con una joven mujer rubia con lentes de molduras negras y gruesas, escribiendo frente a un computador, sin virar la mirada de la pantalla. Se da cuenta de que despertó y le dice: “Al fin despertaste, hola, mi nombre es Lana”. Stefan lentamente se incorpora observando el lugar donde estaba. No había ventanas, parecía un sótano, estaba rodeado de tecnología y muebles viejos, Lana le cuenta: “Llevo tiempo siguiendo los movimientos de Nébula, buscando una manera de desmantelar los planes de este peligroso grupo”. Stefan, desconfiando, le dice: “¿Qué te hace pensar que yo tenga que ver con eso?”. La mujer se da vuelta para mirarlo y le muestra los archivos que guardan relación con su transferencia a su cuerpo cibernético, los planes de Nébula y la alerta de captura contra Stefan, Lana le dice: “No te burles de mí, sé quién eres y por qué te busca Nébula”… En ese momento, Stefan comprende que no había nada que ocultar, menos a una talentosa joven como Lana. Entonces se levanta y se acerca a Lana y le dice: “Bien, dejemos las niñerías, ya que sabes de mí y yo ya puedo saber adivinar quién eres, una hacker, entonces ayúdame a acabar con estos hijos de su madre”.

En ese momento, Lana asiente y juntos hacen una alianza tacita entre ellos para enfrentarse a Nébula. No será fácil. El grupo de influencia tiene la ventaja de recursos casi ilimitados con el fin de mantener las cosas como están. A medida que Stefan y Lana se adentraban en las sombras de las redes internas de los grupos de influencia, descubrieron que Nébula no era la única amenaza que tenía. Otros grupos que se habían formado a medida que la humanidad colonizaba planetas, estaban conscientes del poder que representa el Proyecto Doppelgänger, desataron una guerra cibernética en todo el sistema solar. Estaciones mineras en los confines exteriores y colonias en Marte se convirtieron en campos de batalla. Lo que sorprende al duo, es que son interceptados por drones de seguridad que le presentan resistencia, Stefan enfrenta a los drones con sus habilidades mejoradas, mientras Lana se pone en un lugar seguro del pasillo y se conecta a la realidad virtual con lentes de realidad aumentada para sabotear los sistemas de seguridad. "¡Cuidado!", grita Lana mientras una nueva ola de drones aparecía detrás de Stefan. Stefan se lanzó a la ofensiva, utilizando técnicas de artes marciales mejoradas por su cuerpo cibernético, con lo que desmanteló a los drones. Juntos, lograron acceder al servidor principal y descargar la información crítica sobre el Proyecto Doppelgänger. La dificultad al infiltrarse fue la misma, con la única diferencia que en vez de drones, había guardias Doppelgängers cuyas mentes no eran más que autómatas. Volvió a darse otra batalla épica. Stefan luchó con todo lo que tenían. Utilizando cada truco y técnica que había aprendido cuando era agente de elite, se enfrentó a los Doppelgängers con una ferocidad implacable. Lana, por su parte, se sumergió en la red cibernética de la instalación, accediendo rápidamente al sofisticado sistema de comunicación, antes de que otra partida de Doppelgängers los atraparan. Intentan activar la autodestrucción.

"¡Tenemos que detenerlos ahora!". ¡Exclama Lana!

Después de que Stefan supera a los Doppelgängers, otra remesa de estos vienen en camino para presentar resistencia y antes de enfrentarlos, logra sacar un hub de su brazo para conectarse al servidor central y activar el sistema de autodestrucción del edificio. Una vez que la transmisión logró exponer el Proyecto Doppelgänger a luz pública. La revelación sacudió los cimientos a la ciudadanía de todo el sistema solar. La humanidad, se vio enfrentada a la realidad de un intento despiadado de opresión que se cernía sobre ella, las piezas de ajedrez comenzaron a caerse, siendo arrestadas por la policía; políticos, empresarios, ejecutivos, todos llevados a prisión o muertos al resistirse al arresto. Stefan y Lana, habiendo cumplido su misión, se encontraron en una encrucijada.
