"Lady Penelope?" Solana squeaked, she quickly ran over. "What in the world– I thought we– I thought you–" She shook her head. "Whatever, come on, we should head to your room while the palace is calmer."

Solana continued to weave her shroud, or well, Penelope's shroud. She had enough to deal with already, so many people bursting in and out of the palace and nearly blowing her cover on several occasions. This was the only time she could relax. Then, she untied it. Just like how Penelope taught her to. I have to do this, she told herself, it's to protect them.

Then, she heard a knock on the door. She waited. She didn't move. It wasn't Telemachus, she knew that. For one, three knocks indicated that. But that didn't happen. And two, he wouldn't sound like he was trying to break the door down–

Oh gods–

"Penelope!" A voice, his voice boomed. She immediately stood up and pressed her body against the door. She knew she couldn’t hold it closed on her own. Gods, not now. Please not now-

"Come on, my queen," he yelled, Solana barely able to keep the closed door contained as the bangs got louder, more aggressive. "You should come out, I'm sure you'll have a grand time, my lady."

The way he said that, she was not opening the door. She'd hold that door closed until it killed her.

The bangs only got louder, more aggressive. She didn't know how long she sat there, crying, praying, hoping that when he got in there he'd make it fast, until she heard yelling on the other side. Then, the banging stopped as there was more yelling. Then silence. Until she heard those heavy footsteps getting farther away.

She was left breathing heavily against the door, crumpled against the floor, sobbing, and terrified of what would have happened if he kept that up for a few moments longer.

"My king," she whispered to no one in particular. "Please, come quicker."

Penelope slammed the door to her bedroom after another day of dealing with suitors. She slid down to the ground and covered her eyes, soft, muffled sobs coming from her room.

"I can't do this... I don't want to do this anymore..." It's funny to her. It's so funny to her, for her to think she has a choice.

Solana just scoffed. "Fuck off." She spat and slammed the door behind her. She just needed to plan something to keep her and the queen alive, and hope to find the prince.

”Mother, you’re looking a bit different today! Did you get your hair done?”

Penelope smiled gently. She's always had a soft spot for him.

"I'm glad you noticed." Liar.

She swatted his hand away her eyes flashing gold. Only to sigh and put her hands in her lap.

"That doesn't make sense. His highness went on a diplomatic mission, last I checked, anyway." She narrowed her eyes. "...Solana. I'm switching places with the Queen until I can get those suitors out."

You're not my mother. I'd know.

"I'm sure." She said, she looked tired, but she continued weaving. "And I know the prince enough to know you're not him. I've already been nearly murdered by a fake once.." she mumbled.

"Please kill those suitors. That'd make this way better actually than pretending to be the queen."

"So... you're Penelope?"

"Yes." She smiled kindly, but she was holding her breath. Gods, where was the Prince when you needed him?

Solana seemed to relax, approaching him. "Tch. Good scare tactic. Do what you wish. The king will not tolerate it however." She went to leave the room, just wanting to get as far away from him as possible.

”Mother, you’re looking a bit different today! Did you get your hair done?”

Solana let out a shaky breath, she couldn't tell if it was a sigh of relief or a sob. "Then.. what are you going to do to me? You don't need me for anything, I could just run away and it wouldn't change a thing."

Solana nervously swallowed. "I don't even want to be here, and considering you look like the prince, I could probably ask father for some divine intervention to make it easier for you– And it isn't like Antinous would kill me, thinking I'm the queen. More like... capture me. I don't know what they'd do after that..." She was trembling, her eyes were glowing a little as her mind raced.

”Mother, you’re looking a bit different today! Did you get your hair done?”

Solana closed the door with a sigh, leaning against it.

"Dear gods, I'm assuming that either the gods put me somewhere I'm not supposed to be, or you're where you're not supposed to be, which is bad and one hell of a story on both ends."
