He's all I talk about on my main these days but I'm doing a little intro post for Xanthos here too since I don't think I have 😭

in PK.MN X.Y, if you hunt for it, you can learn that the war in which Floette died was the result of actions taken by AZ's younger brother- the same brother who is the ancestor of Lysa.ndre. I initially made Xan just to fill that role, but I ended up making an AU where he, alongside AZ and Floette, became immortal. He is a bit of strange man. Very serious and intense; the way he talks and the way he moves make it obvious he once commanded armies. But he is also... argumentative, and a little childish, and VERY insecure. In fact, insecurity and self loathing are the root of many of his problems... he struggles to see himself as someone who is capable of being loved, and due to this is often immensely jealous of anyone he sees as being Better than himself, which included AZ. For many, MANY years, him and AZ resented each other after the war, for understandable reasons. But every time they would bump into each other during their immortal wanderings, they managed to patch that wound little by little. Finally, with Floette's return... they are both ready to try being a family again. His team is composed of a Golurk (shiny), an Aegislash (a unique Achaean variant), and a Bronzong. His "theme flowers" are marigolds and purple hyacinths. He is exactly 9"ft tall... he is shorter than AZ by 10 inches (which annoys him greatly, because he used to be taller than AZ). He's also the youngest of the 3 siblings, being 3 years younger than AZ and 1 year younger than Floette.

His name, Xanthos, comes from a Greek word for "golden" (usually used in reference to blonde hair). I picked this name for him because it starts with X (fitting with the game's title), and also it sounds good paired with Azoth (a term associated with AZ). Also, Azoth is an alchemical term... as is Xanthosis (though the term "Citrinitas" is more common). And I didn't even realize this until one of my mutuals pointed it out to me, but the "Anthos" in his name means "Flower," which ties him to Floette :~)

as u can see the reason why I haven't been focused on selfship stuff lately is bc I'm so focused on AZ's little brother 😭 I just love the dynamic I created between them

AZ and Nerine are rly private about their relationship, so the only ways to find out are 1. On accident 2. Though careful observation or 3. Doing This

>:3c After the end of the war, it's about 100 years before the two brothers ever see each other again, and naturally they're both shocked! They each thought the other had already died long ago, and for good reason (especially since Xan's immortality came a bit later on!)

At this point in time they're still Incredibly angry with one another for a variety of reasons... What starts off as a "civil" conversation becomes a fist-fight.

It's a few more hundred years after That that they're finally able to actually Talk to one another, and it happens after an event that forces AZ to confront the fact that despite what happened in the past, he still loved and cared for his little brother 🥺

thought of a tag for AZ's brother (my OC) since I've been thinking about him a lot lately 😭 I like the idea of them eventually finding some way to get along with one another... 3000 years is a long time to be holding onto anger and frustration, especially when one (AZ) very much would like to move forward... 💔💔

I haven't figured out Xanthos' relationship with Nerine too much yet but i think it's funny for Xan to be like "Whose that girl you're talking to 👁️_👁️" all over involved and nosy

waited a little before answering this bc I couldn't decide what I wanted to say about him 😭 so here's just an assortment of Xan Fun Factz:

He has a low alcohol tolerance and tends to avoid drinking it for this reason

His favourite colours are rust gold, teal, and ruby red

His Golurk was his first pokemon, and he received it as a gift from his brother when it was still a golett

despite being the son of a blacksmith, Xanthos has zero skill with it. This was a source of insecurity for him in the past

He has a bad tendency to blame himself for things that aren't his fault 💔

He loves waking up early and even has a pretty elaborate morning routine

He loves curry rice :~)

He's a pretty skilled dancer!!

He's the baby of the family. He's 3 years younger than AZ and 1 year younger than Floette.

3000 years ago, when AZ was king, Kalos became involved in a long and terrible war... The war was spearheaded by AZ's very own younger brother...!!!!!!

This younger brother has little to no canon information, which is why I ended up making Xanthos ^.^ here's Xan during the war.

Related to my tags on that last post. The reason why I named Xanthos that is bc it sounds fitting paired alongside Azoth. And like how Azoth is an an alchemical term, so is Xanthosis, the Yellowing stage of the alchemical process ^.^ though "Citrinitas" is more commonly used to refer to it 😭 also the AZ and XA sounds... Sometimes I think that I should've spelled Xan's name as "Zanthos" instead, but I think his name being pronounced with a "Z" sound and yet being something else entirely makes for good symbolism 😭

i was originally gonna have it so Xan was notably shorter than AZ (but still unnaturally tall) but now he's like. 9" ft exactly to AZ's 9'10ft. Two giants... The Lakers need them...

i haven't drawn much Aznerine lately cuz I've been so siblingbrained with AZ and Xanthos 😭 weird family dynamics I luv u so mach
