🏕 - Juniper and Fennec going camping

Fennec turned on the portable lantern, and the warm glow lit up the inside of the tent. In the corner across from him, Juniper was huddled, pouting a little. Despite her expression, Fennec couldn’t help but laugh.

“It’s only a little rain,” he said. “We can survive this. Didn’t you say your family slept outside all the time?”

“Yeah, in the desert, where this kinda thing -” Juniper paused to look up towards the sky as the thunder provided a handy example - “never happened! Or at least, not for long.” She huddled up in her blanket. Fennec opened his pack and started to dig through it.

“Let’s see … I was planning on saving this for after dinner, but we might need it now.”

Juniper’s ears perked up a little, and she leaned forward to watch Fennec. He pulled out a heavy-duty thermos and two cups.

“I made this right before we left. It should still be pretty warm.”

He opened the thermos, and Juniper’s nose twitched. She finally smiled at the smell of hot chocolate.

“Come on, let’s drink some of this … and I know you brought snacks, didn’t you?” Fennec teased. He handed a cup across the tent to Juniper and she laughed.

“Of course! I’ve got plenty of them in my bag … and not all of them are spicy, either. I bet the granola bars would go pretty good with this.”

Fennec crawled over to Juniper’s side with his cup, and set the thermos between them. Juniper took the blanket and put it over both of their laps as they huddled together, then reached for her own bag.

“We can still have fun like this,” Fennec said, grinning. “I brought some card games, but just sitting here snuggled up to you is nice, too.”

Juniper’s ears twitched, and a red flush crept up her neck. She unwrapped a granola bar and held it up to Fennec’s mouth.

“Eat something, before you make me blush for real!”
