Tattoo Headcanon

I’ve been having this headcanon stuck in my head since forever. I don't know if this has been done yet but I haven't seen anything. So, there’s this tradition amongst Olympians that once you successfully compete in your sport, it’s like a rite of passage to get a tattoo of the Olympic Rings, which is the logo (examples below). You can also find out more here.

I think that some of the guys on Japan's National Volleyball team will have their own tattoos of the rings after their first Olympics as a team in 2020. They'd probably all go to a tattoo shop in Japan as a "team bonding experience", as I think Bokuto would put it. He would go around begging to everyone saying, "It's our chance to celebrate this once in a lifetime opportunity!". They would eventually all give in to stop him from bugging everyone during practice. I definitely believe that Bokuto, Atsumu, Iwazumi and Suna would get tattoos during that visit at the tattoo shop.

So, where would they get them? Bokuto would get it on his back, where his shoulder blades are. Atsumu likely would have it on his bicep, so he can flex it to show it off to people. Suna would either have it on his wrist or ankle. Iwazumi would join in with the fun and get one on his forearm. Oikawa would also have one too at the base of his neck on his back, that he got done back in Argentina after his third place win in 2020. If you disagree with me, go argue with the wall.

Eventually, some other members of the team would get the Olympic Rings tattoo themselves like Hoshiumi and Hakuna. Maybe even Hinata at one point in between the 2020 and 2024 Olympic Games. Ushijima and Kageyama would be more reluctant but not opposed to getting one. It would take a lot of convincing for them to finally get themselves tattooed with the Olympic Rings.

I took a deep breath. Everything is set. I shouldn’t be nervous, right? I looked through my things and found the book Hitoka gave me then I remembered. She gave me this before leaving the house.

I opened it and saw photos of the match Karasuno played during the spring qualifiers. My heart sank as I realized how much I missed out for this event. After this, I’ll tell my parents that I’ll focus on my school and to lump all of my work to my brother. Hehe.

I heard my name. The staff said that everything is ready.

“Yes, okay Thank you.” I packed everything and followed the staff but we were held up by the press.

They asked me how I’ve been and what inspired me to celebrate my birthday like this.

“Oh, I’ve been good.” I answered with a smile. “I’ve wanted to celebrate my birthday with volleyball because I was curios about it. Working with the guests I invited made me learn how much this meant to them whether they stopped playing or not.”

“Will you be back working after this? As Tokyo’s Billboard Princess?”

“Oh, no, no. I’m sure my parents would want me to focus on my studies until graduation. I know I would.”

I excused myself from everyone and left to get to the event. The crowd cheered when they saw me. I smiled and waved as I walked towards the announcers’ table.

“Hello, thank you for coming to this event. I’m so honored to have you watch this year’s charity event.”

The announcers let me sit in between them. “Here we are. Tokyo’s Billboard Princess, you look just as cute as the pictures on the billboard.”

I giggled. “Thank you, I got it from my mom.”

“So what made you choose volleyball as a sport for this year’s event?”

“I knew someone back in my childhood who plays volleyball so I’ve always been curios about it. It all seems so short notice but we got through it to the end thanks to my family.”

“I noticed that most of the guest teams here are from the high schools in the Miyagi prefecture. Why is that?”

“Oh, my mom and I lived there when I was younger. I felt like giving some tribute to the prefecture since this will be the last year that I’ll be young.”

“Oh, right. I heard you were attending high school there. That makes sense. Anyway, hope you have fun commentating the games today.”

“Hopefully we still have a job after this because I feel like the princess will take ours after this.” They joked and we all laughed.

“Oh no, please. I don’t know any technical stuff so I’ll leave it to you.”

“Alright, even on short notice they managed to set up a team. Two teams. It looks like it’s an all star too. Let’s start with the Princess’s team. Would you mind introducing them to us?”

I laughed “I stuck close to him and my brother. So he’s also like a big brother to me.”

“There you have it. Another fun fact from our Princess.” They clapped. “Now let’s start this game.”

“I wish both teams good luck.” I smiled. “Please cheer on both teams and wish them the best.”

They all clapped. The gymnasium fell silent. It was my team’s serve. Ushijima’s. They talked about Ushijima’s strength and his left-hand dominancy making him the one on the top three aces.

I watched his serve closely and he made what they call a ‘no-touch ace.’

“Whoa. That was actually scary. Can anyone even receive that?” I commented.

“Yes. There are times where his services were received but I can only imagine how hard it is for them to get the ball up.”

I remember when I talked to him. It was a very brief talk that I didn’t have to stay long. I mostly talked to the coach for the schedule.

I noticed Oi-niichan a bit agitated but he still kept his cool for the team since he’s captain.

“Come to think of it. The other team is pretty strong too.” I mindlessly commented.

“Oh. What’s your insight?”

“Oi-niichan- I mean Oikawa-san was said to be one of the best setters in the Miyagi prefecture. I talked to Ushijima-san once about it and even he acknowledges Oi-ni-- Oikawa-san’s talent. I met Tendo Satori in Paris and I could already tell that he’s good with his instincts. And I recognize the others from my research.”

“You must be hands-on for this event.”

I smiled proudly. “This is our family’s pride and joy. I can’t let them down.”

They started the other rally. It became intense quickly but Bokuto-senpai was able to score a point. I covered my mouth so I don’t have to scream on the mic.

“And that’s a point scored by Bokuto Koutaro.” They couldn’t help but laugh. “I’m guessing that this is your first match?”

I laughed. “I’m sorry. I’m easily impressed. I talked to Bokuto-senpai personally and I only heard about his plays. He’s so cool. And his muscles are so cool too.”

Bokuto looked my way and gave me a thumbs up. I gave two back.

“You seem close with Bokuto Koutaro.”

“Haha. It’s like an instant click, I guess. I just really think he’s cool.”

“Seems like our princess got a crush. My, she grew up so fast.” We all laughed.

The set was intense with only a point lead from my team. I laughed with the announcers because I was able to make the exhibition game into comedy with my reactions and commentary. It was finally time to change court.

“While we’re on a short break, why don’t you talk about how you picked the players for the team.”

“Well, when I thought about making this event I looked up for the stars that were famous during my previous years in high school. It’s honestly embarrassing to say that I missed out a lot of good matches. So I thought why not bring it to life with the top players then. But my brother...” I chuckled. “I feel like he picked just the right people for his team to fight mine.” I’d be annoyed if I wasn’t so impressed.

“So you met many of these players recently?”

“Yes. It was exciting to meet them even though I just started getting interested.”

“Do you have a favorite player though?”

“Hmm.” I smiled then grinned. “I feel like that’s a sensitive topic.” We laughed.

“Why?”

“Because I made good friends with them that I feel like I’m picking one over the other. Actually they’re all my favorite. They’re my all stars.”

“That was honestly cute.” They laughed again. “Our Princess is too pure for those types of question.”

“She’s too pure from the start so I don’t understand why you asked.”

We went through another set. This time Oi-niichan’s team got the set. He looked at me to tease me and I just smiled at him.

“That’s a set for your brother’s team. He picked the right people like you said.”

“He picked players that came from powerhouse schools. Most of them are previous teammates or rivals of my team’s players. If I were them I’d be nervous but since many of them are professionals or becoming one they’re all so calm.”

“It’s no surprise since you’ll definitely see a lot of people in the professional league. Speaking of them, you invited the coaches and managers of the professional teams and set up a round robin playoff for the high school teams.”

“It’s an opportunity I can’t miss. I have friends that plan on playing volleyball after graduating. I just wanted to support them as much as I can.”

“So what school do you go to? You’re almost graduating, right?”

“Oh, I’d rather not say. My brother’s gonna lose his mind if I do. I also want to keep my friends privacy and mine safe.”

I forgot that it was a five-set match. Oi-niichan got another set. He’s getting fired up.

“That’s another set for your brother’s team.”

“I’m getting nervous.” I confessed.

“Huh? Why?”

“My brother is going to rub it in my face if my team loses.”

“Come to think of it. Oikawa Tooru’s serves are on another level.”

“I guess they also have power on their side. Especially with the ‘Little Giant’ on their side as well.”

I finally realized. “Right, I thought that the jump was so high. So he is the ‘Little Giant.’ Define ‘Little’ though. I must be so tiny.” I joked.

“Right. A lot of volleyball players are tall so a lot of people would think they’re small next to them. But there are people who play that are smaller than the average player.”

“I think they’re cool. It’s scary to be the small fish in the big pond but you know, you won’t stop growing in it. I’d say jump in.”

“Wise words. There you have it, people.”

Relief washed over me when my team got the set back. We laughed about it and talked more while we waited for the last set.

“Right, I’m sure your fans would want to know how’s your life in high school. You were gone for almost three years. That’s a long break.”

“It was a good one. I actually got to have fun being an ordinary high school kid. Now that it’s my last year, I’m just finding more things to be thankful about.” I smiled to myself. “I met people that I can surely say that are close to me. I’m glad I met them. Hopefully they can hear it.” I glanced over the crowd and spotted them but I tried to play it cool. “I wanna hangout more even if we lead different lives. You made my high school special.”

“I think I’m gonna cry.” They leaned back and covered their eyes.

“As a fan, I just want to say, don’t stop being kind.”

“Alright, let’s get to the last set.” I laughed. “Whatever happens, I’m thankful for both teams in participating. And all of the other teams as well.”

The last set started. I can feel everyone’s nerves. They wanted to win. I wanted to cheer for Bokuto-senpai and Kuroo-senpai but I’ll wait for this last set. Besides, I’ll be meeting them on the party. Along with the others. And other people.

Just when I thought the game couldn’t get more intense. It did. Each point was taking my breath away. And I’m starting to forget to breathe. I shot up from my seat when my team won.

I looked to the other team and Oi-niichan looked gutted.

I shook my head and went to do the final greetings before I could talk to the players. I got so excited that I ran to Bokuto-senpai and Kuroo-senpai and jumped for joy.

“That was so cool whenever you would jump to spike.”

“Right?” Bokuto-senpai proudly said.

“Hey, I did some good blocks, Neko-chan. You can’t just compliment this owl bastard.”

“She can’t help it if I’m her favorite!” Bokuto-senpai mocked.

I chuckled. “Sorry. It actually makes sense when you were saying that Nekoma is good in defense.”

I gave all of my compliments to each team member. Yaku-san grinned and complimented me back which lead to him and Kuroo-senpai bickering. Miya-san just smiled and it made me blush a bit. Suna-san, Ushijima-san and Sakusa-san just hummed and nodded.

The team and I took a picture. Kuroo-senpai and Bokuto-senpai put their arms on my shoulders and smiled.

“You all worked so hard. Thank you for letting me see you play.” I bowed to them. “Hopefully, I see you at the party.”

“It’s the day after tomorrow right we’ll be there.” Kuroo-senpai smiled and put his hand on my head.

I bowed one more time before excusing myself to run to Oi-niichan.

“Oi-niichan!”

“Kawaii-chan.”

I hugged him tightly. “I wanted to say thank you. I wasn’t expecting you to come since you’re so far.”

Oi-niichan chuckled and petted my head. “Your brother just knows how to push my buttons. I can’t pass up going against that damn Ushiwaka.”

I pursed my lips and looked at him. As if he could hide what he really feels.

Oi-niichan smiled menacingly. “Stop with that face. It’s annoying me even more.” He messed with my hair.

I chuckled. “Oh. Tendo-san!”

“Yo~!” He raised his hands so we could hi-five.

“You’re blocks were so amazing. I wouldn’t be able to catch those. You were like a magician.”

Tendo-san chuckled. “I’m rusty but, man, Wakatoshi-kun still hasn’t changed one bit. I’ve always wondered what it feels like to see him on the other side of the court. It’s also funny to team up with Oikawa-san.”

Oi-niichan flinched and glared at Tendo-san. I couldn’t help but laugh.

“You’ll be at the party, right?”

“Of course, I’ll bring those chocolates you asked about. Waah~! I couldn’t believe I did this after saying I’d quit but I’m glad I did it for one last time.” Tendo-san smiled to the ceiling and looked like he was looking at the most beautiful picture.

We took a picture. Oi-niichan couldn’t help but be nostalgic and pulled me close so he could do that cheesy pose he always did. But this time I was smiling along with him doing the same thing instead of pushing him.
