🎀      :      at  the  mention  of  the  tights,   another  pitying  noise  escapes  rhiannon.   there's  no  greater  emergency  than  fashion,   but  at  least  some  people  are  still  into  the  grunge  look.   〝   don't  even  sweat  it.   i  can  fix  your  tights  ordeal  tomorrow.   〞   she  says  over  her  shoulder,  working  her  way  through  the  crowd  with  an  EMPLOYEE'S  ONLY  door  as  the  target  destination.   〝   the  trick  is  getting  stockings  made  for  dancers,   you  see  ?   i  think  i  still  have  a  glittery  pair  that  i  wore  at  body.   〞   finally  at  her  end-goal,   she  pushes  the  door  open.   it  leads  to  a  surprisingly  quiet  hallway  with—   yay!—   a  first  aid  kid  mounted  to  the  wall. she peeks around the door,   〝   knew  it  !   come  on.   〞

🎀      :      body  offered  its  share  of  life  skills.   other  people  may  find  it  a  comical  viewpoint,   but  the  workers  there  knew  differently.   working  at  miami's  best  strip  club  also  meant  working  with  miami's  most  insufferable.   survival  skills  were  a  must  to  stay  afloat  &  every  working  girl  had  a  specialty,   whether  they  claimed  it  or  not.   rhiannon's  specialty  happened  to  be  people  coding.   with  one  look,   she  would  pinpoint  what  category  they  fell  into:   meek,  handsy,  impressionable,  loaded,  guilty,  rowdy…   the  list  drags  on.   on  crowded  nights,  it  had  become  a  game  to  see  if  she  still  has  it—   &  she  does,   apparently  !   she  walks  up  to  bambi  with  raised  brows  &  an  excited  grin.   in  her  hands,   a  worn  leather  wallet  from  some  total  loser  at  the  bar.   〝   some  people  make  it  too  easy,   bam.   〞   as  soon  as  she's  standing  shoulder-to-shoulder  with  the  other,   she  opens  the  wallet  &  pulls  whatever  remnants  of  cash  out.   〝   recognized  someone  from  body.   regular  from  like,   two  years  ago.   put  a  hand  on  his  chest  &  his  entire  brain  short  circuited,  i  swear.   〞

🎀      :      rhiannon  is  attempting  to  send  a  text.   the  key  word  certainly  being  attempting.   she  punches  at  the  number  pad,  ��huffing  under  her  breath  when  the  words  simply  do  not  translate.   WRanB@12!     whatever,   hit  send.   her  triumph  is  short  lived  when  she  collides  with  another  person,   ready  to  switch  on  a  pair  of  doe  eyes  &  issue  an  apology  if  she  spilled  their  drink—   but  it's  cash  !   she  sighs  in  relief,   〝   oh   thank   god   it's   you.   〞   she  pats  his  shoulder  as  she  lets  out  a  laugh,   bright  &  airy.   〝   saving  me  from  these  shoes,   a  real  guardian  angel.   〞   rhiannon  takes  the  excuse  to  slide  in  at  the  bar,   elbows  resting  on  the  counter.   〝   whatcha  drinking  ?   can  i  sample  ?   〞

he's  holding  court  ,  basically  ,  as  is  the  norm  for  cash  -  because  when  he's  out  like  this  ,  he's  cash  and  not  really  ben  ,  more  gregarious  and  funny  and  charming  ,  his  regular  self  ,  just  on  ten  .  the  people  around  him  laugh  at  a  joke  he  makes  and  that  allows  him  to  excuse  himself  from  the  crowd  ,  wanting  another  beer  that  is  for  sure  comped  because  he  and  the  bartender  are  old  friends  ,  go  way  back  ,  got  him  for  the  one  thing  that  one  time  at  the  one  place  ,  whatever  .  he's  waiting  for  said  beer  when  someone  bumps  into  him  and  as  opposed  to  getting  mad  enought  to  start  swinging  ,  ben  looks  down  with  a  wide  grin  .  “  watch  out  ,  if  i  wasn't  here  ,  you'd  be  falling  flat  on  your  ass  .  ”

routine. that's all she wanted ⏤ to establish a more comfortable, calm schedule than relying on her thirst for an adrenaline rush she longed for yet dreaded recapturing. though this ? was not what dime wanted, either. hunched over the first register at her dingy little job, head propped up on her elbow as she poorly fanned herself with a times magazine in front of a janky table fan sounding as if it was on it's last leg. her co-worker was busy stocking the aisles, but dime knew they were just lounging wherever a camera couldn't find them, leaving her to attend the front of the store in case anyone walked in. just her luck, the bell rings out, causing her eyes to peacefully shut in disinterest. “ welcome to dollar tree. if you're gonna steal, please don't do it in front of a camera. ”

"oh yeah, don't you not have a license at all?" hana questioned, twirling a piece of her hair as she chatted with rhiannon. “there’s  a  bowie  driving  ban?”  in  hindsight,  maybe  it’d  do  tania  some  good  to  pay  attention  to  the  prowlers’  comings  and  goings,  but  where’s  the  fun  in  that?  there’s  a  reason  why  people  say  ignorance  is  bliss.  leaning  into  the  side  of  their  car,  tania  presses  their  palms  down  against  its  low  roof  —  protective.  “i’d  do  it.  just  not  on  him.  find  me  some  beat-up  car  that  no  one’ll  miss  and  we’ll  take  ‘em  down  for  a  spin  around  some  parking  lot.  no  harm  done  when  you  crash.”  a  pause,  then,  “except  maybe  to  the  telephone  pole.”

her   languid   movements   are   a   stark   contrast   to   the   way   jet   tenses.   he   knows   it’s   part   of   the   gig--   tries   hard   to   make   peace   with   it,   really--   but   something   about   the   careless   casual   way   other   people   touch   his   car...   his   stomach   churns   just   thinking   about   it.   it’s   hard   enough   letting   the   mechanics   touch   his   car;   bowie’s   history   or   lack   thereof   with   cars   does   nothing   to   ease   the   grumbling   tenseness   in   his   bones.   “   xile   could   only   kill   me   if   you   didn't   kill   me   first.   i'm   not   so   sure   we'd   make   it   that   far.   ”   jet   tilts   his   head   at   her.   “   if   you   could   learn,   would   you   want   to   really,   though?   ”
