Synopsis: Tanjiro and Y/N have known each other for their entire lives by this point. They finally confess that they have shared feelings :â¢]

Tanjiro x Reader || 600 words || Fluff || Modern AU || Third Person || No warnings ˶ᵠᵠáµË¶
You sit upon your rooftop, your legs dangling off the edge. You observe the neighborhood kids playing, someone watering their lawn, and the general bustle of your somewhat lively block. You let your eyes wander over every bit of the scenery. You look at these people youâve known your whole life, but in your heart thereâs a ping of loneliness.
You found your comfort in the clouds, as you looked up longingly. Youâve always wanted to touch the sky.
Your gaze wasï¿Œ so transfixed on the cotton candy-esque sky that you almost donât notice the way his calloused hand brushes against yours, or the way that he quietly gasped when it happened. Almost.
âOh, Tanjiro! When did you get here?â You glance up at your childhood friend.
âI only got here now, sorry to have kept you waiting,â he says with a vibrant grin.
The pinkish hues of the setting sun painted the two of you in an ethereal light, and you caught yourself staring into his eyes. You quickly break eye contact and cast your sight elsewhere.
âDonât apologize,,,I donât mind waiting.â A nostalgic smile grows on your face.
Itâs quiet between the two of you, but only for a moment.
âI-â you both start simultaneously before bursting into laughter.
âAlright, alright. You first,â he said while playfully nudging you.
âWhat? No wayyyyy, now Iâm too shy,â You whine âYou should go first.â
A tint of red dusts his cheeks, if only for a moment. If you werenât watching him so intensely, you definitely would have missed it. He takes but a second to regain his composure.
âOn second thought, Iâll tell you later.â
Youâre curious, and honestly a little irritated, but you respect his boundaries too much to pry any further. Instead, you just nod in agreement.
The warm summer breeze gently blows against you, ï¿Œ messing up your hair in the process. You brush it out of your face and smile brightly at the boy next to you. Heâs trying (and failing) to put his own hair back into some semblance of its typical style.
âLet me help youâŠâ You say before reaching over and running a hand through his soft, red hair.
He doesnât say anything, instead he tenderly grabs your hand and places it in his lap. The slight confusion on your face is quickly replaced with a tender smile. Seconds pass, but they feel like hours. You lay your head against his shoulder.
âTanjiroâŠ..â His name leaves your mouth like a whisper, âI think I love you.â
You feel his body tense up beneath you. By now there was no way of hiding the blush that had made its way upon your features, so you didnât even try. Your mind was racing with millions of thoughts per second, but his timid voice silenced it all.
âY/N.â
You squeeze your eyes closed as tightly as possible, mentally bracing yourself for whatever his response could possibly be.
âIâve wanted to hear those words from you for so many years.â
In an instant your sitting perfectly upright and gawking at him in disbelief.
âWhat do you mean by that?â you ask with clear bewilderment in your voice.
He lets out a chuckle before cupping your cheek in his left palm.
âI mean I love you too, Y/N.â
Unsure of what to say, you bite your lip and lay your hand on top of his. The two of you sit there for at least a minute, just savoring this moment. You lean further into his touch.
âIâm so happy,â you let your eyelids droop closed, simply enjoying his presence.
