Greeting IMMEDIATELY dies in his throat. He holds back the urge to curse - the quick scan of the future from this morning not quite complete, now, as it seems. Brows furrowing as he reaches across the short space of the entrance to grab hold of her wrist and tug her toward him. Keeps his voice low and his movement light. “...Do they know we’re here?”

If he doesn’t speak very much during normal stretches of time, illness makes him withhold WORDS even more - throat scratchy and uncomfortable, and so instead of thanking her for the soup and the medicine and the fussing, which warmed his body as well as his heart - he just reaches out and holds onto her arm and keeps her still for the first time that morning, pressing his face into her sleeve.

He definitely makes her breakfast in bed the days they’re staying together and she has time to lounge a little and not be straight out the door. And I feel like any meals they make, they definitely make together. There’s a lot of quietly weaving around each other in their likely-small kitchen space passing each other things. They know each other’s patterns there very well at this point.

I haven’t fleshed out his alone-space/home life a great deal since it feels like he spends a lot of his day at the shop, but I feel like he has a cat and I feel like the cat definitely likes her better than him. Every time he comes home the cat is Looking For The Extra Person and makes disappointed noises when she isn’t there.

He’s definitely a pretty Traditional Classical Boyfriend (tm). not in like, a bad way though (I love how they’ve been fwb and kind of blurry what are they for a while and now he just made me drop boyfriend so hard). So actually, it’s kind of surprising??? That they started as fwb jfaka;jflksf. But like...he makes sure Feng Wu’s not on the road-side of the sidewalk, will bike a couple blocks over just to walk her from her apartment to the convenience store and then back when she mentions she wants a snack at night, offers his pockets for her hands on particularly cold winter walks, etc.

“I’m not exactly...GOOD. At this kind of thing.” The sheer amount of time he needs to SAY that is proof of the statement. He’s not WORRIED - per se. Hands in his pockets, his being all sharp, clean lines - everything about him exuding the cool and calm that he carries with him EVERYWHERE. It seems strange - that he’s witnessed time travel and super-powered criminals, and yet - well, perhaps it’s because - “I’ve never done this before.”

He stares for a moment, vision unfocused - and then looks at her - and then back at the crumpled form on the floor beyond the counter. There’s more to be done of course - gather the scattered photographs, perhaps, pick the man off the floor, perhaps, call someone - but in that moment he simply keeps staring at her. Then a smile touches his lips, faint in the afternoon light. “...Remind me NOT to piss you off.”

He’d thought it would be harder to SAY, when it comes down to it. He’s never been particularly good at expressing himself, used to silence, used to doing rather than saying - but looking at her, in the most ordinary of moments, he finds the words FORTHCOMING - “I love you too.” It occurs to him it’s the first time he’s ever said it, even as he takes her hand, thumb running across her knuckles, before he kisses the back of her hand. It wasn’t MEANT to play out this way, at the beginning - but life has a way of turning things like this upside-down. “So...” A hint of mischief, lips lifting slightly at the corners - “Does that make us lovers now?”

He CONSIDERS telling her about the latest, but then he meets her eyes and swallows it all back inexplicably. There’s only so much future he can see - and between he and Cheng Xiaoshi, there was only so much they can DO. What he sees - isn’t changeable. “...No. None of it frightens me.” Except when he sees a past that cannot be changed. A future that cannot be changed. “But sometimes...it’s just sad.”

Fireworks and cheap champagne. He doesn’t need to tap into vision of time to know what happens next. Fingers brush gently over her cheek before his palm settles, cupping her face. Leans down as the clock strikes - and something red and sparkling explodes in the sky, casting the light and glow and smoke cascading over their window. “ - Here’s to a better year,” Wry quirk to his lip, unspoken prayer whispered, and he kisses her.

Returns other hand to his pocket once Feng Wu has taken the parcel, gaze fixed to her hands.
