tatum   knows   this   is   it   —   she   has   to   accept   the   fact   that   her   brother   is   madly   in   love   with   gale   weathers   ,   and   that   she   will   be   a   riley   one   day   too.   the   way   that   they   both   look   at   each   other   does,   admittedly,   makes   tatum   smile   .   today   is   the   day   she   hangs   out   her   white   flag   in   surrender   ,   her   bitter   battle   coming   to   an   end.   even   throughout   the   sequel   killers   ,   gale   remains   by   her   brothers   side   ,   and   tatum   wants   to   show   that   appreciation.      she   always   prefers   to   have   cereal   in   the   mornings   but   today ;   she   will   make   an   effort   .   secretly   ,   she   has   got   to   know   what   gale   likes   to   drink   at   breakfast   and   to   eat   at   breakfast   by   indirectly   hearing   dewey   talking   about   her   to   their   mom.      

times   like   this   she   feels   bad   for   being   so   cold   and   wary   of   gale   ,   but   she   hopes   that   this   will   be   an   official   peace   offering   for   both   of   them.   glancing   up   at   the   clock   ,   she   is   delighted   she   has   perfectly   timed   everything.   “   of   course   you   did   it   perfectly   tatum   ,”   she   proudly   says   before   humming   with   a   wide   grin.   now,   all   she   has   to   do   is   to   wait   for   gale   to   come   downstairs.

“   don’t   be   stupid   randy   ,   i   do   miss   you   .   college   sucks.   i   will   drive   up   to   see   you   and   sid   ,   yeah   ?   ”   tatum   is   thinking   about   transferring   to   the   same   college   as   them   ,   but   she   doesn’t   feel   smart   enough   to   be   in   college   .   besides,   she   is   worried   in   case   there   might   be   another   killer   on   the   loose   —   she   dreads   to   think   that.   “   you   better   have   a   beer   ready   for   me   .”

“   i’ve   always   liked   listening   to   the   rain   ,   i   think   you’ve   forgot.   ”   there   is   a   slight   bitterness   in   her   voice   .   perhaps   it   is   because   she   is   not   his   priority   anymore   .   paranoia   flickers   through   her   facial   expression   as   she   slumps   down   on   the   couch.   in   reality,   she   is   afraid   that   ghost   face   is   going   to   jump   back   up   and   kill   her   even   though   they’re   both   dead.   “   sorry,   i   know   you   have   been   busy   .   mom’s   driving   me   crazy.   ”

“   y’know,   i   can   trust   you   to   stablise   stu.   ”   tatum   says   to   billy   as   she   sucks   a   sweet   in   her   mouth   ,   fussing   over   her   hair   to   make   sure   it   was   sitting   nicely   .   “   as   long   as   you   are   treating   sid   right   ,   we   can   be   the   best   of   friends   too   billy   .   ”   in   all   honest   truth   ,   tatum   would   kill   him   if   he   tried   anything   to   hurt   her   best   friend.

tatum   watches   the   horror   movie   on   the   television �� with   extreme   focus   and   dedication   .   friday   nights   were   their   dedicated   horror   movie   nights   —   after   the   aftermath  of  the   massacre,   she   couldn’t   bear   the   thought   of   watching   another   slasher   film,   but   as   she   watches   laurie   strode   trying   to   escape   michael   myers,   she   turns   to   randy   with   a   serious   look   on   her   face.   “   you   should   write   your   own   horror   movie   randy.   every   movie   is   predictable,   ”   she   says   as   she   throws   a   couple   of   pieces   of   popcorn   in   her   mouth,   “   and   something   that   we   haven’t   lived   through   either.   ”   she   jokes   as   she   stands   up   to   stretch   her   legs   for   a   moment.   “   do   you   want   another   beer   ?   ”

the   brutal   murder   of   maureen   prescott   shocked   woodsboro   ,   tatum   never   knew   what   grief   entailed   and   she   could   not   imagine   what   sidney   is   going   through.   arm   wrap   around   her   best   friend’s   shoulder   ,   wishing   this   would   be   a   nasty   nightmare   for   everyone   involved.   “   sid,   ”   she   whispers   before   enveloping   her   into   a   hug.   this   wasn’t   fair.   there   were   no   words   tatum   could   say   to   make   it   better   but   she   was   going   to   protect   sidney   with   her   life.   who   could   be   so   sick   and   twisted   ?   

“   you   are   staying   at   ours   tonight.   ”   tatum   says.   she   knows   hard   days   are   coming   for   sidney.   she   didn’t   know   where   billy   was   but   it   didn’t   matter.

tatum   is   trying   to   steady   her   breathing   as   she   looks   up   at   her   friend   with   a   terrified   expression   on   her   face.   “   i   -   i   think   so   ,   ”   she   grunts   in   pain   as   she   moves   her   body   in   an   attempt   to   support   herself   to   stand   .   the   pain   is   excruciating   as   she   tries   to   walk   but   she   stumbles   into   the   wall   instead.

tatum   wonders   why   she   bothers   by   going   to   so   many   psychiatrists,   doctors,   therapists   or   whatever   they   are   called,   she   always   deliberately   missed   appointments   because   she   couldn’t   care   less.   she   only   agrees   to   go   to   these   appointments   to   keep   dewey   and   her   mom   and   dad   happy.   besides,   she   wasn’t   the   only   victim   in   the   whole   ordeal;   though   ,   she   hates   going   anywhere   alone.   this   is   exactly   what   she   is   doing   –   sitting   alone   in   the   waiting   room   ,   expecting   to   be   analysed   and   to   get   “   fixed   ”.   she   becomes   restless   ,   sighing   and   twirling   a   string   of   hair   in   her   fingers   as   she   mentally   rehearses   the   script:   the   beginning,   the   middle   where   she   nearly   died,   and   the   aftermath   .

dr.   lecter   –   she   re-reads   the   appointment   card   over   and   over   ,   she   slumps   over   in   tiredness .   her   scarred   arm   itches   a   little   now   and   again   ,   she   tries   to   ignore   it   ,   hiding   it   with   woolly   jumpers   ,   silently   thanking   the   time   that   it’s   autumn.   truthfully,   she   is   not   expecting   much   from   this   session   –   they   always   end   the   same  .

   so,   when   she   stands   and   goes   into   the   room   at   her   appointment   time   with   a   solemn   look   ,   she   is   already   planning   her   evening .   “   uh ,   hi.   ”   the   only   downfall   is   that   she   is   wary   of   strangers   ,   maybe   that   is   the   reason   her   other   attempts   did   not   work   .   “   tatum   riley      .   ”   she   wishes   she   was   her   confident   self   again   ,   her   mom   suggests   it   will   take   time   to   bounce   back   .   “   it’s   nice   to   meet   you.   ”

it   has   been   a   few   times   since   she   has   missed   her   therapy   sessions   ,   and   now   she   stands   in   her   kitchen   with   the   phone   to   her   ear.   shame   burns   on   her   face   as   she   knows   she   has   probably   let   him   down   .   “   i   haven’t   been   avoiding   you   .   i   miss   our   sessions   ...   it’s   –   i   don’t   know.   i   have   been   a   mess   and   i   don’t   know   how   to   fix   it   .   ”   she   hates   to   cry   with   a   passion   but   this   time,   she   doesn’t   want   to   fight   back   the   tears.   the   anniversary   of   the   massacre   was   always   a   tough   time   .   sighing   heavily   ,   she   finally   resigns.   “   can   i   come   today   ?   ”

tatum   feels   like   time   has   stopped   in   her   world   —   the   crowd   of   police   officers   and   nurses   and   doctors   feels   something   out   of   a   movie   she   isn’t   a   part   of.   her   cheeks   staining   with   fresh   tears   as   she   comes   to   term   with   the   events.   it   was   her   doing.   she   encouraged   sidney   to   come   along   to   the   party   —   and   she   sits   alone.   her   wound   on   her   arm   stings,   her   ribs   aches   every   time   she   moves   an   inch,   she   wants   to   cry   forever.   

in   truth,   she   does   not   know   what   is   even   real   anymore   .   all   this   time   she   was   suspecting   billy   of   the   killings   when   it   was   stu   all   this   time.   the   images   ,   the   pleas   and   the   yells   were   messing   with   her   head   —   blood   everywhere   in   the   kitchen   .   she   shot   someone   she   loved   ,   and   now   stu   is   dead.   memory   is   failing   incredibly   as   she   tries   to   remember   how   she   got   to   the   hospital   .   with   billy   -   that’s   right.   

tatum   finds   billy   eventually   ,   unsure   what   to   say   .   it   is   them   now   .   “   i   was   wrong   for   suspecting   you   billy   ,   i—   i   was   so   stupid   .   now   everyone’s   dead   .”      her   voice   cracking   ,   her   heart   feels   as   if   someone   has   ripped   her   heart   out   from   her   chest.
