he accepted the invitation through his body language. taking a step forward into the space and settling his shoulders enough for his dark grey wings to flare out a little more behind him. in big crowds he tended to hold them in tightly behind his back as to not take up space — or at least that's what he told himself. in the past, it was to keep hidden in a crowd full of people. now it's simply out of habit. " i would love nothing more than a bit of peace. the crowds in there seem to only get rowdier as the night goes on. the unlimited champagne doesn't help, does it? "
eva's practiced smile slips atop her lips without so much as a thought. it's not forced , or fake , the lady genuinely prefers to greet others with kindness when they haven't done anything to deserve otherwise. " no apologies needed. " she replies smoothly. it's hardly her space , nor would she ever demand someone offer a sorry for something where it was not deserved. her eyes tracked the other , and she played her little game of guessing another's species the moment her gaze caught his own keen eyes. anyone could be observant , though , and she didn't rush to guess just yet. " i'm quite fine , but you are more than welcome to stay if you'd like a bit of peace. i was only teasing. " because she was trying to remain in a light and playful mood , despite what the news around them screamed.

it seemed draqys was almost too far gone now after engaging in the conversation — it would be rude of him to decline the invitation to learn a new trick. " it is lovely, i can't deny that. " it's said with a small shrug and then a flash of a toothy grin. he'd blame the bubbles he drank earlier for this later if it all goes wrong. if anything, the malakim has his wings to keep from tripping across the floor. " if you're positive and can trust that i won't step on you, then i can trust you back. " he added, opening his hand out for her to take. " can i have this dance? "
"You won't step on my feet, I promise. I'm an excellent teacher." Zarielle promised. As a siren, dance came naturally to her. Perhaps it had a lot to do with sounds, when she danced it felt fluid and graceful even on land-bound legs. She still remembered well her first clumsy attempts when young, and how patiently her mother had guided her. It seemed like a lifetime ago now. She tilted her head, regarding the man. "No one is born knowing how to dance. But the music is too lovely to waste standing here, don't you think? I'll lead first and teach you the steps. It's really once you get the rhythm." She said, flashing him an encouraging smile, hoping he would take her up on the invitation.

"it wasn't the sailors." draqys said as a matter of fact, wings tucked in tight as he eyes the same guys elzaren was referring to. the bunch on that boat looked human, but it was hard to tell from this far away. even then, what would sailors want with a malakim — let alone so much to remove their wings? "what would be the motive?" did there even have to be? draqys was truly there to get out of the malakim district where there was nothing but talks of new years, but it appeared that everyone was talking about the horrors no matter where he went.
The seagulls flew around him, singing their strange tune while Elzaren hummed a melody of his own. Like most days, he was at the harbor, sitting on the edge, his feet dangling inches from the water's surface. It was strange how everything seemed to be the same as the day before, yet everything had changed after the gala. The Siren's eyes darted between the people around him. A couple were holding hands as they walked down the street, whispering to each other. Were they trying to figure out who killed her? What about the old man sitting on the bench behind him? Was he the killer? With a shake of his head, Elzaren let out a shaky breath as he ran his fingers through his hair, which was still wet. He hadn't entirely dried after returning to land, and his feet hadn't quite grown steady enough to return to the land dwellers either. While he had intended to stay on land throughout the night and watch the whole scene unfold before him, he had gotten tired of it rather quickly, and the last thing he wanted was to be interrogated by the police, so he had spent the night in the safety of the ocean.
"I bet you that the sailors did it." He told the person approaching him without taking his eyes off his latest targets of suspicion: the two men working on a small fishing boat close to the harbor. "You might be wondering how they could do something like… that, but let me tell you, I wouldn't put it past them! They are very talented; I'm sure they would figure out how to do it."

" just passing by, " he nodded to the malakim princess. he didn't know if he'd ever been in this temple, or when the last time he stepped foot in one. had to have been sometime back home. even as he eyed the temple quickly, turning back to face nyxara, he was glad to have run into her. " i think only the most evil of dieties is the one i'd want a word with anyway. " he had felt more than furious after seeing the mutilation done to the body. the most disrespectful thing that could be done to a malakim in draq's eyes. " i hope whichever you prayed to listens. "

Standing before the towering stone pillars of Luminara's temple—Nyxara's wings folded neatly behind her back. She had come seeking solace after the disturbing murder at the New Year's party. Now everything seemed to put her on edge. Every shadow made her startlingly aware of the lurking danger around her. She murmured a prayer to the goddess, hoping for protection. As she turned to leave, she spotted Draqys. "Are you heading inside or just passing by?" she asked him, keeping a smile on her face despite the unease churning within. In truth, she was relieved to see a friendly face.

" lady moonshade, my apologies. " and there officially go his days of sneaking around and not getting caught, even at a party this full of people who, as draq can tell, only tend to care about themselves. after giving the lady a once over, draq then turned to scan the area of anyone else or possibly any potentials for danger. even if much hasn't been said about the bodies around the city, draqys has hundreds of years behind him as a protector and even the smallest things still set off his internal radar. " i can leave, i won't persuade you in that manner, but are you all right out here on your own? "
𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐞𝐫 : third floor balcony of radiant hall
" congratulations. " comes her voice when the door cracks open to the somewhat quiet balcony she'd claimed as her own. eva was amazing at socializing , she thrived at galas , but anyone who knew her well enough would know that breaks were key to surviving the night. " you've found the best spot to watch the little dots below. " solaris plaza was alight with people, music, laughter and merriment. everything one needed to ring in the new year. " i might be persuaded to share. "

if there's one thing about draq, it's that he does not dance. it made sense when he could blame it on his wings getting in the way. making some excuse as to why he needed to stretch them right in the moment the music turned on. now? now he had been caught. " not keen is one way of saying it, " he said as he finished the drink in his hand, setting the glass down on the nearest high boy. " and you don't have your feet all the time, " he mentioned to the siren, looking down at the legs she had while on land. " are you sure you don't mind me stepping on them if you teach me? "

Zarielle observed the well-dressed crowd filling the dance floor as the new year celebrations began in full swing. She loved this festive time of year, finding any excuse to slip into the rhythm of the music. Noticing the person next to her simply standing by, she smiled and said, “Are you not keen on dancing? It’s actually really easy.” Seeing the hesitation in the other’s eyes, she continued, “if you’re shy, I could teach you. You can’t just stand around, it’s a party.” Shy or not, she couldn’t picture any of the attendees not dancing tonight.
